Favorite Pokémon Tournament 2017 : Ice (Oct. 22 - 29)

Welcome to the fifth annual installment of the Favorite Pokémon Tournament, hosted here in Pokémon General! The goal of the Favorite Pokémon Tournament (also known as the FPT), is to determine the most popular Pokémon/Pokémon family of the users here at the PokéCommunity. This will be a 10-week set of polls running between now and December, where we'll pit almost all Pokémon of different types from past and present generations against each other to determine a winner. After we know the results of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and will go down into the record books as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon of 2017!

If you are new to the Favorite Pokémon Tournament, or would just like a refresher on the rules/process of the event, please take a look at the FAQ posted below:

Spoiler:
  • Every week, two new polls will be stickied at the top of Pokémon General. Each thread will include a different elemental type, and the list of Pokémon to vote from.
  • You aren’t required to pick just one Pokémon- you can vote for as many as you'd like to ensure your favorites get through. The Pokémon with the most votes at the end of the week will earn a spot in our grand finale, where the winners from all other polls will compete to be crowned the champion(s)!
  • In order to preserve space, we’ve grouped all of the applicable evolutions in a Pokémon family together. Some Pokémon (ex.: the Nidoran families, Alolan variants, etc.) may be exempt from this rule.
  • While regional variants have been included, please be aware that any Pokémon that changes formes (Mega Evolutions, Pokémon holding items, etc.) will only be included in polls with its original typings.
  • In the event of a tie at the end of the week, all Pokémon tied for first place will advance to the finale.
  • If there are any questions that you need answered, feel free to leave a comment in this thread or send a VM to Вrendino to get it sorted out.

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls are open until the 29th of October, so get voting!

Just a quick note before anyone asks- since Alolan Ninetales (and by association, Vulpix) won the Fairy type poll, it hasn't been included here, because it has already claimed a spot in the finale. If it's still one of your favorite Ice type Pokemon, be sure to leave a note in your post so that it feels the love over here, too!

Happy voting!

Articuno is the clear winner here. Although Cryogonal gets a sympathy vote; nobody likes it ;w;

Mawa October 22nd, 2017 10:44 AM

Ice and steel are two of my favorite types.. this will be hard to choose which Pokemon I like the most.

Cloyster and Froslass are special for me so I vote for them. But I could vote for all of them really.

FireSnow October 22nd, 2017 11:07 AM

Voted for Swinub/Piloswine for their awesome design, Glalie for its usefulness, the Spheal line because they're my favorite Ice type, and Crabominable for being an important member of my Sun team

Mewtwolover October 22nd, 2017 11:51 AM

Glaceon
Mandatory Eeveelution vote.

Mister Coffee October 22nd, 2017 12:00 PM

This was hard, I don't like very many Ice types. I picked Jynx and Sneasel and Weavile.

I always have had a soft spot for Jynx. It's a pokemon I remember using way back in the first generation. I also have battled many times on Pokemon Stadium with Jynx on my team and it always was very powerful and useful. I also really like its overall design and appearance, I don't think Jynx looks creepy or ugly, in fact I think I like it for some of the same reasons why I like Bruxish's design.

Sneasel was just so cool and fast in generation 2. It was a great pokemon to show off the new Dark typing with. When they introduced Weavile in generation 4, they took a pretty awesome pokemon and made it even more powerful. It's just a crazy fast pokemon, extremely aggressive, sweeps very efficiently. It also really takes advantage of Ice being a more aggressive type. Sneasel and Weavile are just great examples of what an aggressive Ice type should look and play like.

Had to go with my ol' girl Glacia here. Glalie and Walrein by far take the cake. THough i have to admit that Alolan Sandslash looks really sweet too!

- Alolan Sandshrew line (again, lmao)
- Dewgong
- Lapras
- Articuno
- Froslass
- Regice
- Glaceon
- Cubchoo

Interestingly, despite Ice being one of my favourite types, I only like about a handful of them, it seems. :s Game Freak needs to make better Ice types!

Ida13 October 22nd, 2017 6:45 PM

I voted for Articuno, Glaceon and Kyurem.

Somewhere_ October 22nd, 2017 6:55 PM

I voted for Weavile, Glaceon, and Amaura! Mamoswine too just to support gen 4 lol and its pretty cool!

PageEmp October 22nd, 2017 9:25 PM

Mamoswine....and that's all. Though I do like a lot of Ice mons that one probs wins out.

Raffy98 October 22nd, 2017 10:37 PM

Lapras, Articuno (part of my favorites from Gen 1) and obviously Glaceon.<3

Absolitetion October 22nd, 2017 11:18 PM

Lapras all the way.

gimmepie October 23rd, 2017 12:20 AM

Voted for Sandslash-A, Articuno, Weavile and Vanilluxe.

Cool_Porygon October 23rd, 2017 12:30 AM

Articuno and Glaceon.

EC October 23rd, 2017 5:06 PM

The Cubchoo line!

ddrox13 October 23rd, 2017 6:45 PM

Congrats Brendino, you managed to choose the two types I'm monotype challenging with right now.

Ice is nice and easy for me, despite being one of my favorite types overall. As a general rule, this is my monotype Sun team, minus Icetales (by virtue of winning Fairy) and Crabominable (I just don't like it much)

Snowslash Line - Is awesome. No explanation needed here.

Cloyster Line - My most commonly used Ice-type competitively of all time (though the current Ice rep on my main comp team is aforementioned Icetales), Cloy-Cloy has put in so much work for me over time, no matter how often I change her nickname (sample nicknames: Bivalve, Cloy-Cloy, The Janitor, Lucina, A Shell, Spike, and Revolver)

Weavile Line - While not on my current Mono-ice run, Weavile is just generally flipping awesome. He's found his way onto almost all my competitive mono-ice teams as well as some of my generic OU teams as either a CB user or Pursuit trapper.

Froslass (and, by extension, Glalie and Snorunt) - Another competitive staple, Frossy was my competitive lead of choice for most of gen 6. Usually going by the nickname "Utility", she has become a favorite of mine foe her speed and general usefulness and also just a good design.

Glaceon - Obligatory Eeveeloution vote (that isn't getting used in like 90% of these polls). My favorite Eevee evolution. There. I said it. :)

Ice is my second-favorite type overall, and I love the type as a whole.

BlazingCobaltX October 24th, 2017 1:18 PM

Ice is a great type but I don't feel strongly towards a lot of them. My picks are:
- Articuno: almost a mandatory pick
- Sneasel line: I really like Weavile and need to use it sometime

Special shout-out to Vanilite line for making people angry with its design.

UkiTheMaid October 26th, 2017 6:58 AM

Voted for mah girl Jynx (actually insulted she only got 4 votes!) and my babies, Alolan Sandshrew/Sandslash :3

Eleanor October 26th, 2017 6:59 AM

My votes go to Froslass, Weavile, Aurorus and Glaceon!

PixelGoat1325 October 29th, 2017 6:39 AM

Vanilluxe hands down. It...wait, they. It has two heads. Um. Right. Vanilluxe catches as much salt as a salted caramel chocolate bar for being 5th gen and having a limited coverage pool, but what little it does it does real good. Not much can survive a Modest Vanilluxe's Blizzard or Freeze Dry! Plus it's unusually adorable and I have one on my team!

Powerserge October 29th, 2017 7:23 AM

Shell Smash Cloyster gets my vote. I've certainly won with it far more than any other ice-type Pokemon in recent times.

Brendino October 29th, 2017 1:25 PM

Well, another week of voting has concluded here in the FPT, and for the long time followers of the tournament, this was definitely an interesting one to watch!

There was quite a shift at the top of the polls this year, with our eventual winner Glaceon running away with the votes, despite finshing in a tie for 5th place last year. On the other side of the coin, last year's champions Sneasel and Weavile didn't even come close to a repeat, as they finished in a distant 8th place. That's why we do these polls every year, because you never know what could change in that time!

If you haven't already, be sure to go check out the results of the Steel type poll, and then be back here in Pokemon General tomorrow for another week here in the FPT!

I know, right? I swear I'm the only one that likes and uses Vanilluxe lol!

Hikamaru October 30th, 2017 2:54 AM

Hard to believe that Glaceon, the fifth placer last year has now won its type's poll, while Weavile finished only eighth after winning last year. Shows how preferences change over a year, but nice to see Glaceon win! Probably to make up for Sylveon losing to a certain majestic Alola Form.

PixelGoat1325 October 30th, 2017 6:03 AM

...Maybe next time, Vanilluxe.

And now I need to go to Friendly's and get me a cone head. Mmmm. Fudge dipped cone.
