pc regulars/veterans

for those who are actively on pc, what keeps you coming back onto the site everyday? what are some of the things you do on pc? anything else?

bonus questions for those who've been active for 3+ years:
-have you ever taken a hiatus on pc? why/why not?
-what do you usually do on pc?
-any highlights/growth from being on pc?

Somewhere_ November 7th, 2017 7:35 PM

I would consider myself an active member, but not a veteran. I have been on the forum for over 3 years because I had an old (cringey) account. I took a hiatus from PC for a while and returned with this account.

I keep coming back everyday because the community is great, the discussions are fun, and the forum provides me with pokemon news.

EC November 7th, 2017 7:39 PM

It's probably the members for me. Everyone has a great personality, and nobody posts just to post.

Radiating November 7th, 2017 7:47 PM

I love talking to all the great people I've met, and my interest for Pokemon is still high.

Sawsbuck November 7th, 2017 7:55 PM

I usually hang out in OT, play some of the mafia games as well as forum games and Pokémon trivia
A lot more active now than I was back in July 2015
Lot of cool people around PC
It really says something that I have over 1.6K posts considering I'm not usually too active on forum sites

noa November 7th, 2017 8:56 PM

I come here for chatting in some off topic chat threads, and posting in forum games/pokemon trivia. I sometimes venture away from those areas, but these days, not often.

moon November 7th, 2017 10:06 PM

In my early years I used to take frequent hiatuses for a month or more because I led a busy offline life and tended to forget about PC lol.

Nowadays I log on every day all day, because I have to catch spambots.

My friends and the fact that I love talking about Pokemon, really. It's interesting that throughout the dozen years I've been here, that one thing has never changed.

Quote:

I talk about Pokemon with other users and I shitpost sometimes!

Quote:

-have you ever taken a hiatus on pc? why/why not?
yeah but I sucked at hiatuses for the most part because I don't have any kind of an actual Social Life.

the highlights are the cool-ass people I've met throughout the years that have changed me in more ways than one! I genuinely think that once you spend a long enough time here, it becomes less about your own personal interests that tie you to this place and more about the people and the environment that keep you logged in everyday; at least that's how it was for most people that have stayed here for years and years.

seriously; stay around and talk to the right people long enough and i think you'll start to develop your own "circle" of friends (so to speak) that you will want to be around and that will keep you drawn to this site for years and years to come. I really do think I've grown as a person due to my friends' influence on me in past years and I will continue to grow as a person and as a individual from the conversations I hae with friends currently. Maybe I've grown to be a bit of a social butterfly on PC, but the fact that I also meet new people on a pretty frequent basis also ties me to this place; it means I have a bunch of other cool people that I can talk about my interests with and things like that!

... ok this response was longer than intended you can go back to your scheduled programming 8D

TY November 7th, 2017 11:29 PM

I came for trading, I stayed for ****posts and friendos

I've had couple of hiatuses, some long, some short. I used to post normally around some sections but now all I do is ****post random memes and other things c:

I had a long leave not too long ago and now that I returned I'm kinda happy I did cause I didn't really expect me to fit in that much. Guess I'm wrong lol

Growths on PC are my social skills which went up a lot, thanks to a relationship aswell on PC. It also helped out a lot on what I want to do with my life.

ok i go back to ****posting now

I stay because I enjoy chatting with you all

Nah November 8th, 2017 5:41 AM

this forum requires that i grace it with my presence everyday in order to function

string555 November 8th, 2017 10:41 AM

I just come here for the ROM hacks

I got into the habit of popping in here during my breaks at work. It's actually really helped me cut back on smoking a lot, so my lungs thank you PC. :D

Even though I'm mostly an introvert, I've found that I do enjoy taking the time to come on here and talk to people, even if a lot of time it's usually just joking around with people. There's also plenty of times where someone posts a good discussion thread, and that's always interesting. :D

Disturbed November 8th, 2017 10:50 AM

wait
this forum isnt where i parked my car

ZeoStar November 8th, 2017 12:00 PM

Its all still new to me, so I could go on hiatus and forget the site exists. But right now it's a nice change of pace, since online communities aren't usually relaxed. Scrolling down a page and not seeing any arguments is strange, but it's nice.

Ida13 November 8th, 2017 2:45 PM

What does AMA mean anyway?
Calm this type of thread down, it's getting very random here.

Hiatus November 8th, 2017 3:48 PM

I suppose an unintended hiatus. I could not log into my account due to password issues, and didn't wind up resolving until around six to eight months after.

To actually answer your question: AMA means "Ask Me Anything."

But Matt's answer above mine is one of the reasons why I stick around on PC. It's more relaxed here. There are rules that are followed, but not to any extreme, allowing the members to pretty much do what they want. This also allows the members to get to know one another better without having to worry about breaking some insignificant rule.

Which is the main reason why I keep coming back here. Because PC is a community made up of smaller communities. Even though these days I mostly stick to Fanfiction & Writing, there's still a community there of writers that get to know one another and help each other. Some people manage to branch out to other sections, but there's never a "you don't belong here" sense when that happens. PC is just so welcoming to everyone.

That's why, despite my hiatuses and attempts to leave, I keep coming back here. It's the reason why I joined here in the first place. Because PC has always been far more caring about the members than other [Pokemon] forums that I just can't help but get the warm fuzzies when I think about this place.

As for my personal growth on PC, because this place is so caring, it gave me the courage to explore my identity and become more comfortable with myself. I'm also more confident than I used to be in dealing with new situations, and I'm better able to be a leader in real life.

Matt's post just keeps getting more hilarious the more I look at it.

Sheep November 8th, 2017 7:24 PM

I feel really settled into the community, it's near impossible for me to feel that way towards any other forum nowadays. This place has always been the one that most felt 'like home'

Never took a hiatus though... surprisingly. If I'm ever away it's because something happened (computer broke, for example) or I'm on vacation, but even then I'll usually have my laptop with me. I've never taken a demoted leave from staff since I got modded either (August 2012). Most of my time is spent VMing people and modding, though ofc I also post around a decent amount too. yayaya pc!!!

I joined PC back in 2004. I've taken countless hiatus' because honestly, I forget about it. I used to love PC because it was a fairly tight knit group. As I got older, the group disbanded for the most part. Many people have been inactive for years. I haven't been on in over a year. Life and kids get in the way. But I am interested to see how things are now.

Raffy98 November 9th, 2017 1:09 AM

What makes me comeback everyday is the members, I've never been in such a community where people you meet and talk to can actually turn into actual friends (or something more ;)) after a bit and that's amazing.

I usually hang out in the OT forums, especially S&T or Forum Games. :>

It's original meaning is "ask me anything" but now it's just used randomly I guess.

much like the multifaceted usage on reddit itself, i've adapted it as a summon for those to who the topic pertains

and now it's thriving! i love me

Embrace the modern PC. Turn on the swear filter - now with hearts or pokémon names, for your comfort!

Sawsbuck November 11th, 2017 2:06 AM

I have the filter turned off because I'm a rebel :p

starseed galaxy auticorn November 11th, 2017 5:31 PM

I’ve taken plenty of hiatuses on PC to be honest. I'm also not really sure what gets me to come back here. Perhaps, it’s because I want to see how long I can do so. I’ve been here for 10+ years now as well, and I’ve seen this place grow into what you guys see today.

Palamon November 12th, 2017 9:30 AM

I literally only stay here for the idol general chat thread.

Altairis November 12th, 2017 6:21 PM

I keep coming on and off due to waning interest in community itself, and I come back because aimless posting is fun sometimes. I also love being able to talk to other Pokemon fans mainly, but sometimes it's like a nightmare trying to have a decent discussion

yknow life is also an issue, got that chronic illness & university combo like a bunch of others here

Kikaito plush November 13th, 2017 10:51 AM

what make me keep coming back is the community here

pastelspectre November 15th, 2017 2:35 PM

for those who are actively on pc, what keeps you coming back onto the site everyday? what are some of the things you do on pc? anything else?
i would consider myself active, much more active than i was before. i don't visit every single day but i try to visit when i can. i mostly post in the off topic board and discussions/debates.

bonus questions for those who've been active for 3+ years:
-have you ever taken a hiatus on pc? why/why not?
i did take a hiatus on pc technically. i think i was inactive for like 5 or 6 years, until i refound this site and started posting more actively and stuff. before then i was just a lurker, and just posted a lot of fan fic.
-what do you usually do on pc?
i usually go on the discord server and post in the off topic section or discussions/debates.
-any highlights/growth from being on pc?
i'd like to think i have made some friends here? and being on here has sort of opened up my eyes in some stuff i used to think.

Honest November 15th, 2017 8:31 PM

Hardly a regular anymore, but I come back every couple of week to months. Sometimes more often if I'm not doing anything. Reason? Eh, PC's been a big part of my life for almost a decade now. I fell out of love with this website in the last few years, but I still like it enough to check out how things are. As for hiatuses, I've taken a few yup. Don't really remember, but I know I stepped away from PC when Other Chat's quality plummeted. It happened around when I stopped being a moderator I guess, I really can't tell you when at this point. Don't get me wrong, it's still fun to post here, but it's just not the same as it once was, to me.

Well, okay, let me backtrack. It's unfair to just say PC's draw factor vanished, cause it didnt. I also just got busy and began to have a real fun and busy life outside. So that's definitely an important factor. Heck, might be why I dont look at this site the same as I once did.

Nowadays, I just stalk. Post occasionally. And yeah, there were loads of highlights. I grew up with PC. Made loads of friends here (whom seem to have either left or are busy). That being said, I've met a few PC members from here in real life (Morkula, PY, Nolafus, more). I was a part of a few Get-Togehters, a few Skype calls. I was a moderator for something like a year and a half, two stints. Second stint was garbage, cause I asked for my position and got it, and then vanished. I do regret that, definitely ruined my reputation and painted me in a negative light, but there really isn't much I can do about that. Something really random that was worth mentioning was a period where I had changed my username and I had several people asking me if I was some asshole smod from way back in the day. Irrelevant, but I thought that was funny.

I do hope I find the time and interest return one day. I posted once when I was younger that PC was my home and that I would never ever leave. I was young and naive, but I do believe now, being much older and wiser, that this website is helped me be who I am today. And I will come back to visit.

dipz

ps, this place will always be chit chat café to me. other chat just sounds so dull

moon November 16th, 2017 12:49 PM

BRING BACK CHIT CHAT CAFÉ <3

DeusPro November 16th, 2017 4:26 PM

Probably the fact that I'm merciful enough to continue returning after seeing the horrors I've seen here

BlazingCobaltX November 17th, 2017 6:12 AM

Do I count as a regular?

What keeps me coming back? I love Pokémon, I like to talk about it at any given moment tbh. Now I know there 1000 other Pokémon forums that I could go to to talk about that, but I do happen to like the interface of this forum a lot more than some others I've seen - that's definitely an important thing that kept me here. The other reason I keep checking the forums every day is because I'm active on the Discord server so I usually check the two places out simoultaneously.

But maybe I'll jump forums after having written this.

Mawa November 17th, 2017 10:00 AM

Sadly I am not as active as before. I won't say I lost an interest in Pokemon but... Kinda? SuMo and UsUm don't attract me that much. Also, some of my PC friends aren't here anymore sooooo...

-have you ever taken a hiatus on pc? why/why not? --> Not really a hiatus, but I've spent some time without coming on PC. It was just not a priority.
-what do you usually do on pc? -> forumg ames, and answer in the topics I like.
-any highlights/growth from being on pc? --> I did met some amazing person! Some who aren't on PC anymore are still talking to me at other places so yay friends!
