The Rainbow Challenge [Revived!]

Greetings trainers! This is your favorite maid Uki speaking, bringing you back a super nice challenge!

The Rainbow Challenge!

Rules:
  • All your Pokemon must represent the colors of the rainbow (Indigo and Violet to make Purple); Red, Orange (Brown in dex), Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple. Click here for a list of all the Pokemon showing what color they are.
  • After your sign-up, the next poster will choose the Pokemon for you. However, the maximum amount of Pokemon to share a type is 2. So you can either have all different types or 4 different types with 2 sharing.
  • Hacking in Pokemon is allowed if it is necessary. i.e. Let's say that none of the Pokemon you got are obtainable before the first/second/third gym. Then you are allowed to "cheat" and get two of the Pokemon assigned to you. But they must be either in egg form or at a low level!
  • Trading is allowed for eggs or to evolve a pokémon, but they need to be traded back as soon as they evolve!
  • HM Slaves are allowed, if they are necessary for your in-game progress. No fair that you get stuck just because you can't use an HM!
  • Challenge ends when you beat the E4 and Champion.
  • You must choose either single or master challenge; single being one game and master being every region. If you are doing master, you can get a different set of Pokemon for each game if you so desire.

Sign-up form:
Name: Your pokecommunity nick!
Games(s): Which game(s) are you playing?
Challenge: Single or Master?

Extra note: Pls, try and post updates to your run here on occasion, so I know your challenge is still alive, hah!

You're killing me with some of the earlier ones (mainly Eevee because low encounter rate), and I can't catch any of them until after the first trial, so I'll have to starter solo Totem Gumshoos, but otherwise, this should be fine. Gives me a chance to use a Leafeon in a run.

Anyway, as I've played Alpha Sapphire, allow me to provide you with a potential team.

Swalot, Torkoal, Manectric, Ludicolo, Swampert, Medicham

If memory serves, all of them should be catchable in Alpha Sapphire, so no worries about that.

Have fun

EDIT: Ignore the part about soloing with starter. I'm an idiot and forgot Wingull is available extremely early.

This is the first time I ever sorted Pokémon for someone, and I tried to choose good Pokémon, but even though I played Sun, my memory isn't all the great about it, it seems, because I thought Eevee was somewhat easier to find and somewhat early? I remember playing it and it showing up somewhat often (but then again I was reading on bulbapedia to refresh my memory and you get an egg for one at some point, so you don't really need to rely on luck for it, I suppose?)

If you want to, I can do a "re-roll" for you with a less awful team XD

As for my team, man, I never thought I would use a Ludiculo and yet HERE WE ARE. I'm gonna have fun with this team full of Pokémon I never used XD

You might be thinking of Black 2 and White 2, where you can get a HA Eevee from someone. In Platinum, you can get a free one in Hearthome City. Gen 7, though, 5% encounter rate. The team you gave me is fine, though, even with a massive Electric weakness. Sometimes you gotta work with what you get.

Speaking of which, I made some progress. I'm planning on going back to Melemele Meadow to grind off of Oricorio since they can't touch Gems before I advance because all of Akala Island's totems suck.

Ah, I see.

There are so many games, sometimes they kinda blend together for me lol I've just recently got back into the swing of playing Poké games, so I'm like "Where do I find this or that species again????"

Speaking of playing, i need to start on my run... I'll do it tonight, had absolutely no drive during the weekend X_X

Not a problem, but I'll accept the team if you give, and if i need any re-rolls, I'll let you know.

You should also make it compulsory to post updates at intervals like 2 gyms or 3 gyms.

I swear, I will never use a Rufflet in a run ever again if it's avalible so early in the game because it will not evolve until the end of the run. Speaking of which, I finished the run. I still hate Kukui's Magnezone.

I'll want to cancel my challenge. My game was reset accidentally and all the progress was lost. And I'm having my exams right now, so I wouldn't be starting again for some time. I'll put another sign up after my exams are over and complete the challenge. For now, I'll be cancelling my current one.

Guess what? I beat the E4:

My team in the Hall of Fame:
https://i.imgur.com/31HBabV.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/lgRwP3l.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/K0JKLjo.png
https://i.imgur.com/FBHNFuY.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/Z1ZGLFC.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/GvyOCdI.png

My thoughts about each team member:

Serperior - She carried me through early game, when other members were weak. But I don't think I used her during my E4 battles much. I realized that Grass-Types aren't that good in this game.
Crobat - Second member I got and once again, shined most during early game. I didn't use it during mid game until the E4.
Vaporeon - To be honest, I really didn't use him as Eevee and didn't use it much as Vaporeon, but when I used it, it was awesome.
Cof a grigus - This one surprised me. His wall combined with Will-O-Wisp saved me many, many times.
Sawsbuck - BEST MEMBER OF THIS TEAM! I'm not kidding. There are lots of Pawniards in this game and Sawsbuck was my only Pokemon with Fighting-Type move. With Horn Leech for healing, it was unstoppable.
Bisharp - My last member and the one I used most since I got him. Steel/Dark combination is so good in this game. It got rid of 2 E4 members and was able to stand against Iris for good amount of turns.

And finally, few words about the challenge itself:
I loved it. This team made the game far more harder that expected but it actually was pretty funny. I'll probably check this Challenge once again soon.

I think you should be able to get all of them in Crystal without problems.

Umm...sorry, but I looked it up, and you can't get Sableye in Ruby, only Sapphire and Emerald. So can you reroll it for me? I'm only asking because I don't own a copy of Sapphire or Emerald.

Also, it's going to be fun to go until Deford Town with just Seedot/Nuzleaf XD

Edit: Nevermind, I'll just see what I can do with Emerald

Thank you.

This is a good team and I can get access to all of these in-game or through trading and hatching a level 1 shroomish and importing him in.

Can I have a change on blue though as Clamperl is post-game only in Black 2.

I mean, you could do with it like you are doing with the Shroomish.
But, if you really want a new team member, the randomizer says Lanturn.

Having two trade ins seems like cheating and I have no idea how to get a Deep Sea Tooth either.

Lanturn line is post-game fishing only in BW2. : (

I can easily use a team of 5 though but ideally I need something I can catch in game.

Oh rip XD. Forgot you don't get the Super Rod til post-game. Been playing too much Blaze Back 2 lol

I'll give you Lucario then. I know you can definitely get that pretty early

Yes. He is on a very early route but I think I will find a Sewaddle earlier.

So my for the BW2 Rainbow Challenge is: Drudriggon, Arcanine, Leavanny, Breloom, Lucario, Mienshao

Black 2 Rainbow Challenge Update 1

Badges 2/8

Jasmine the Swadloon - Level 20

Caught at Level 3 on Route 20. Doing ok so far. OHKOed the rivals starter Snivy and is levelling up quick too.

Mark the Lucario - Level 17

Caught at Level 5 on Floccesy ranch. Swept Cheren using Quick Attack then learned Force Palm. May take a while to evolve though.

Maxine the Growlithe - Level 17

Caught at Level 11. Swept Roxie's Battle. A reliable Pokemon.

Next I will be importing a Shroomish egg so it hatches with my OT and not get boosted experience.

I've decided to do this challenge in Heart Gold, but the team will still be the same.

Journal Log:
Spoiler:

Started the game and chose Cyndaquil (Yellow) for my starter. Professor Elm sent me up to Mr Pokemon to see what all the fuss was about. At Mr Pokemon's house I met Professor Oak who gave me a Pokedex which is pretty sweet. Mr Pokemon gave me a Mystery egg to give back to Proffesor Elm.

As I was about to start my journey back to New Bark Town Professor Elm called saying that he had been robbed. I happened to battle the thief on the way back to see him, I think his name was 'A'. I let the police officer know the details and gave the egg to Professor Elm, who told me to go on a Pokemon journey. First stop Violet City.

On the way to Violet city I caught a Pidgey (Orange) in a premier ball I got in a promotional offer from the pokemart. After arriving in Violet city I met a man named Primo who I watch on TV, he gave me an Egg which apparently contains a Wooper! I then battled through the sprout tower and ran into 'A' once again.

After the Sprout Tower I challenged Falkner and won!

Solid and I actually like Nidoqueen more than Nidoking since it’s my favorite Poison type. I’ll have to train Pikachu a bit though to get Bulbasaur since acquiring him is based on Friendship with Pikachu(first time that mechanism was utilized). If you’ll allow that then I’m good to go. Otherwise I’ll swap Bellsprout. Interesting that I have no Fire type but Hypno more than makes up for that(Psychic is so OP lol). I’ll start later today seeing as I’ve come down with a cold(so I can rest by playing on my old GBC).

Great, Nidoqueen is one of my favourite Pokémon too.

You can use small trick in Yellow to get Bulbasaur without wating your time with training Pikachu. If you use Potion or any healing item on Pikachu (while it has full health so you won't lose the healing item), it will increase its happiness. But if you would rather swap Bulbasaur for Bellsprout, I don't see any problem with that.

Yeah I know about the Potion trick. Was just wondering if I didn't have to go through with that and just grind Pikachu the old fashioned way(with all the early route Flying Types, the grind really isn't all that hard or long). I'll also be using two HM slaves: Butterfree(Flash and to ensure I have enough "caught" Pokemon for the HM) and Lapras(or Squirtle for Surf) since the earliest I can get Krabby is fishing with a Super Rod on Route 10 or waiting until Seafoam Islands. I could teach Surf to Nidoqueen but the thought of a Ground type surfing on the Water... yeah that's just not logical.

I'll post an update sometime soon as this cold is a whopper.

CodeHelmet March 29th, 2018 6:59 AM

Update in order:

At Rock Tunnel with 3 Badges. Brock was a cakewalk and I did Potion trick to get Bulbasaur prior to Misty. Nidoqueen made Lt.Surge a breeze even though I had no Ground Type moves(helps when he uses Thunderbolt on round 1). Did a bit of grinding in Diglett Cave. Only concern so far is how I'm going to beat Sabrina when half of my overall team(and presently 3/4ths) is vulnerable to Psychic moves. Might be interesting to do a Psychic vs. Psychic bout.

Managed to complete my run so I figure I’d give the details. Sabrina was actually easier than I thought it would be and I exploited her starting Abra to beat her. Since her starter only has Teleport and Flash for moves, I opted to open with Hypno to put it to sleep before swapping to Bulbasaur. While Abra napped, I used Growth to amplify my Special(which in Gen 1 is combined). I did so 6 times, swapping back to Hypno to put it back to sleep and take any potential Flash attacks. Fortunately no Flash attacks succeeded but I had X Accuracy just in case. Then with Bulbasaur amped with +6 to Special, I unleashed one Razor Leaf after another, scoring huge critical hits that managed to knock out her Abra and even her Kadabra. Her Alakazam was a bit tougher to knock out but with Leech Seed and repetitive Razor Leafs, it eventually fell to my Grass/Poison Pokemon.

I then proceeded to Cinnabar Island to get Aerodactyl revived. Taught it Fly and flew back to Vermillion to train Krabby. Grinded to 30 before moving to Cycling road to grind some more. Managed to get everyone up to 50 prior to facing Blaine where Kingler swept his trio. Giovanni fell pretty fast as well through a combination of Venusaur(evolved him at this point with Solar Beam replacing Leech Seed) and Kingler.

Victory road was a long and arduous journey but managed to squeeze several more levels prior to E4. Lorelei didn’t last long thanks to Venusaur, although her Jynx was the only issue due to Psychic Typing. Hypno then swept Bruno and Agatha(requiring I use an Ether item to replenish his Psychic) before Nidoqueen and Kingler defeated Lance. Opened with Kingler against Blue/Gary where Surf defeated Sandslash and a couple Stomps and a Crabbammer defeated his Alakazam. Nidoqueen swapped in for Exeggcutor and Earthquaked it prior to giving it a Body Slam. Switched to Venusaur for Cloyster wherein it quickly fell. Then Kingler defeated Ninetales and Nidoqueen OHKO Jolteon with an Earthquake(Pin Missile stings though). Hard to say who my MVP was but I’d peg it as a three way tie between Venusaur, Kingler and Hypno(with Nidoqueen an honorable mention).

...So pretty much a Blastoise solo run featuring hours in the Safari Zone or Game Corner, Abra hunting, and a mon that comes so late, it's pretty much unusable. To be fair, I do have issues with Scyther and Aerodactyl, mainly. Mr. Mime, I can deal with, but with Aerodactyl being pretty much useless and Scyther being a pain to get, I'd prefer to have something...well, a little less time consuming.

Mr. Mime, I can deal with, but with Aerodactyl being pretty much useless and Scyther being a pain to get, I'd prefer to have something...well, a little less time consuming.

Well you're playing on Red so that limits what I can give you ;). However... being that this is Generation 1, you have the notable glitches at your disposal(Old Man, Ditto, etc.). Ditto one in particular allows you to catch ANY Pokemon in the game in a Wild Encounter. Meaning those pesky Safari Zone Pokemon can be caught without fear of it running away. However, I'll reroll your entire team.

Five of those six you can get by Cerulean City(the last one won't be until Celadon).

I'm not big on using glitches. But, this one looks pretty fine. I've never used Parasect in a run before, so this should be interesting.

Parasect is slow but being a Bug/Grass type means you can use it against Sabrina and get good results since it knows Slash(good physical move) and Leech Life(STAB Bug move). Also has the signature Spore move to go along with say Mega Drain to give it a Grass STAB. Can also teach it Cut if you don't want to give that to Bulbasaur.
