Could I get a second pair of eyes?

Alright. I'm working on 1064 x 768, but I'm concerned about the people with lower screen resolutions. So, I recently decided to see what happens when I resized my screen to imitate an 800 x 600 layout. That's when I found that the main image of the layout partially covers up a border on the navigation column, meaning the layout generally looked bad (not that it really looked that great to begin with). However, I don't know if that's just me or if it really does look that way in smaller screens.

So, I'd like for anyone with 800 x 600 screen resolutions to look at this page and tell me if everything's okay or not. If you see something wrong, could you suggest a way to fix it?

I switched down to 800x600 and the image overlaps for me as well. What you should do is shrink the picture down to be the same width of the navigation.

I run 800x600 on my comp and got the same thing as Kipkip. Best chance is to make the image smaller.

I just switched to 800*600 and, it DOES in fact overlap. Not that you couldn't tell from the other posts above. You could simply set the DIVs to be as big as the image. Although, personally, I'd make a table structured layout. Especially when you're not that far into creating your site. It wouldn't be to hard to convert the DIVs into table numbers.

Also: The layout is a *bit* boring. You might want to go with something a little more image based, but that's just me =3

Table layouts are evil. >_>

It looks like that happens because you're using percentages for your div widths. You should use absolutes instead, you never know what'll happen with sizes.

Tables are awesome... <_< But divs are better for this type of layout.
Percentages are evil x.x
Make the layout no wider than 779- or you can get it to 780 if you make sure to remove margins. Then set the menu/content areas in an absolute position (like JA said).

Remove all margins, set to 780, don't use tables because they break stuff up, absolute everything and pixel all the widths~

It looks even worse in 1280 x 800, which is widescreen. Tables... eh... DIVs would be much better. Nice concept, though.

BTW, 1064 x 786? I've heard of 1024 x 786, but never that. Is it widescreen?

Geometric-sama June 5th, 2005 6:10 PM

It is in DIVs, but percentage-width. They should be in absolute-width.

And it would have been a typo of 1024x768.

Yameneko549 June 5th, 2005 6:15 PM

Meh. I just noticed that. Not sure why I saw "table" instead of "div".

Maybe I should get some sleep instead of working on my Links page for 12 hours. Man that was a large list of links. And now that I've got to work on schoolwork and a few concepts for.... something... this is going to be a long night. X_X;

BTW, Kazeto, when you get that layout done, post a link. I want to see it. ^_^;

Tee hee, well, I should be studying for my exam tomorrow which I'm gonna fail~ I suppose. XD I used to spend ages on links pages too. I gave up. Now if people want their link on my page, they email me and I add them~

One thing i always do is set absolute widths for nav areas..

you can use a % in your header / content / footer to handle the wider screen res's and not loose too much in design at smaller screen sizes..

Geometric-sama June 5th, 2005 6:31 PM

I suppose that would work too XD. But where you have the images in the nav areas, you absolutely CAN'T use percentage widths. Not unless you set the overflow property to hidden or auto.
