? THE POTTERLOCKE CHALLENGE ?REVIVED

『 THE POTTERLOCKE 』

Welcome young wizard and witch, to the 『 THE POTTERLOCKE 』 challenge!
A nuzlocke variant based on the the wizarding world of HP, where you get to sort
your captured Pokemon into houses according to their natures and each house has
different rulesets, boons and banes. Will you accept the challenge?

『 i. nuzlocke rules 』
  • You may only catch the first Pokemon you encounter in a route.
  • DUPES and SHINY clauses are on.
  • You must nickname all your captured Pokemon.
  • GIFT clause is off.
  • Once a Pokemon faints, it is considered dead and must be released or permaboxed.

『 ii. house assortment & house specific rules 』
  • Once a Pokemon is sorted into a House, it can only fight alongside others from the same House! Pokemon from one House cannot be switched out for Pokemon in different Houses.
  • After you complete the challenge, sort Houses from best/most helpful to the least.
  • Each new Pokemon caught is sorted depending on its nature into one of the following Houses:

  • Pokemon that are: Brave, Bold, Impish, Rash, Hasty, Relaxed are sorted into here
  • They are chivalrous, they may switch in to help other houses once per gym badge.
  • They are cocky, they must play as if they are on Set mode, and in a trainer battle cannot switch out before allowing their opponent at least one chance to attack them.

  • Pokemon that are: Hardy, Docile, Naive, Modest, Gentle, Jolly, Bashful are sorted into here
  • They are unafraid of toil, only Hufflepuff Pokemon are allowed to use HM's. HM slaves are allowed ONLY if an HM is required to proceed and no Hufflepuff can learn it
  • They are fair, they cannot use status moves in-battle.

  • Pokemon that are: Calm, Quirky, Sassy, Quiet, Mild, Timid are sorted into here
  • They are creative, only Ravenclaw Pokemon are allowed to use TM's.
  • They are elite, they cannot use attack moves when they are Not Very Effective.

  • Pokemon that are: Lonely, Adamant, Naughty, Lax, Serious, Careful are sorted into here
  • They are ambitious, only Slytherin Pokemon allowed to use held items.
  • They love toadying, their levels must not be higher than next gym leader's lowest-level Pokemon.

『 iii. eras of magic 』
  • Dursley Era (before 1st Badge/1st Trial)

    No magic allowed! Don't use any Special moves and no sorting yet, so Pokemon can all fight on one team.

  • Philosopher's Stone (after 1st Badge/1st Trial)

    Sorting begins! From here on out, Pokemon can no longer switch out for those in different houses.

  • Chamber of Secrets (after 2nd Badge/1st Kahuna)

    A basilisk is running around petrifying students! Any Pokemon afflicted with the SLEEP condition in battle must be boxed at the end of the battle, and cannot be taken out until the 3rd gym badge is obtained.

  • Prisoner of Azkaban (after 3rd Badge/2nd Trial)

    Sirius Black is on the loose and all Hogsmeade trips are banned! The PokeMart cannot be used until the next gym badge is obtained.

  • Goblet of Fire (after 4th Badge/3rd Trial)

    Pick a Triwizard Champion from Hogwarts. This Pokemon must lead in every trainer battle, including the Gym Leader's. If this Pokemon dies, pick another Champion.

  • Order of the Phoenix (after 5th Badge/2nd Kahuna)

    Time to recruit members for Dumbledore's Army! Take some Pokemon out from the box and train them. The team for the 6th gym battle must have at least 3 Pokemon that the 5th gym's team didn't! Umbridge's embargo is in effect, NO items can be used during this segment. That includes TM's and evolution stones! (The sole exception is using balls to catch new Pokemon.) Pokemon centers can still be used. Slytherin Pokemon, as members of the Inquisitorial Squad, are exempt from this rule.

  • Half-Blood Prince (after 6th Badge/4th Trial)

    If one of your Pokemon dies, you must pick another Pokemon in your party and must be boxed at the end of the battle, and cannot be taken out until the 7th gym badge is obtained. No Slytherins can be in the party until the next gym badge is obtained.

  • Deathly Hallows Part 1 (after 7th Badge/3rd Kahuna)

    You're camping in the woods and isolated! After getting the 7th badge, you may use the PC box once to choose your team of Pokemon. Thereafter, you cannot use the box for this entire segment. (The exception is boxing/releasing dead Pokemon.)

  • Deathly Hallows Part 2 (after 8th Badge/Lusamine(SM) or Hapu (USUM))

    The four Houses must unite! (yes, even Slytherin.) Pokemon can now switch out for those in other Houses. If possible, face the Elite Four with at least one Pokemon of each House in your party.

Leech Seed is technically a Status move, not a Special one. (I hope.) 8D;;

That's exactly how I did 1st Gym in my run in original thread XD

Disturb Not The Harmony January 24th, 2018 1:54 AM

Current status: Just began Half-Blood Prince, am verging on Charizard solo due to tragedy against Giovanni at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban. Will obviously be correcting during OOTP.
CURRENT House Rankings: Ravenclaw far and away the best, Hufflepuff second, Slytherin and Gryffindor tied for third. Unless I really have an amazing Slytherin or Gryffindor, that's unlikely to change.
Thoughts:
Spoiler:
Ravenclaw Pokemon with decent movepools can usually hit Pokemon neutrally with the right TMs, so their very advantage overrides their disadvantage.

Hufflepuff Pokemon are pretty much grievously crippled or mostly unaffected, depending on how dependent their native movesets are upon status. When the late-game comes, however, they gain Strength, Fly, and Surf access, which significantly ups their power level if they have the Atk/Sp. Atk to back them up.

Slytherins have to be kicked entirely off your team at one point and are level-capped, which can be really painful in early-game when Gym Leaders have some real weaklings on their teams. Moreover, they're entirely reliant on their own movesets. Some Pokemon can get away with this, but Pokemon dependent on TMs or HMs for coverage heavily suffer.

Gryffindors may switch in to help other team members, but they also are completely open in situations where the enemy AI is decent at switching (e.g. will bring in a Water Pokemon against a Fire Gryffindor). In a Nuzlocke, that's... an extremely risky thing. That's not even mentioning that, after the eighth badge, their advantage goes away entirely...

I had to redo my first attempt, since I got stuck with a Hufflepuff
Bulbasaur and a team otherwise weak to Rock, and wiped to Brock
due to running out of PP for Tackle. This second attempt started
with Charmander because I KNOW Charmeleon can sweep Brock with
Metal Claw (which any House can use).

Detailed rambling recap below:
Spoiler:

=Dursley Era=
Due to shenanigans from Hagrid, a Hungarian Horntail is Sorted into
Ravenclaw.
{Horntail the L5 Sassy Male Charmander (Pallet)}

At Route 2, Pansy actually manages to get sorted into Slytherin. My
first attempt had EVERYONE but the Weedle as Hufflepuff, so this is
a surprise.
{Pansy the L2 Serious Female Rattata (Route 2)}

Colin the Caterpie lands in Hufflepuff, proving that it's unwise to
tempt fate. Seriously, a future BUTTERFREE that can't use status moves?!
{Colin the L4 Bashful Male Caterpie (Viridian Forest)}

Skip duped Rattata at Route 22. And THIS time I get a Mankey. Blah.
...or I would have, except Horntail got a crit. *facepalm*

And now yer a wizard, 'Arry.
(Horntail beat Brock in six Metal Claws. After the despair that was
my Ivysaur attempt, I am genuinely annoyed. :D;;)

=Philosopher's Stone=
Grab Ginny the Ravenclaw from Route 3. Not helping my inability to
switch-grind the others, but she'll do.
{Ginny the L6 Timid Female Spearow (Route 3)}

I take it Gift Clause OFF means I can't grab things like Magikarp?
For the best, really.

Mt. Moon yields... ugh... Cho the Slytherin.
{Cho the L8 Adamant Female Zubat (Mt. Moon)}

We go back to train a bit in Viridian Forest, because I don't like
having everything dependent on one Pokemon. However, since Colin has
no Housemates, he's not getting trained for now. Instead Pansy gets up
to L11, since I can grind from there to L13 in an emergency.

Route 4 yields... duped Spearow... and a Mankey! There we go.
{Ernie the L10 Adamant Male Mankey (Route 4)}

Since my starter is NOT a Hufflepuff this time, I spam Smokescreen to
cheese my way past Squirtle at Nugget Bridge.

Route 24 yields... a Teleport. :(

Route 25 yields... duped Caterpie... and a Weedle.
...I'm going to have a veeeeery baaaaad time very soon.
{Umbridge the L8 Relaxed Female Weedle (Route 25)}

Since my lineup is a disaster for Misty, I'm hopping over to Vermillion
in hopes of more Pokemon.

Route 5: BELLSPROUT! FINALLY!
{Lily the L13 Bashful Female Bellsprout (Route 5)}
...and it's Hufflepuff. Why.
It's not like Bellsprout's best moves are Growth (status) and the
powders.
*headdesk*

At L21, Lily soloed Misty.

=Chamber of Secrets=
Colin celebrates by finally leveling to 10. At least Hufflepuff makes
it easy to decide on movesets. :(
(Legit, Hufflepuff is the single worst House for Grass-types. Poor TM
movepools + inability to use wide status movepool = pain.)

Zacharias the Slytherin is picked up in Diglett's Cave, because it's not
like I've been bizarrely biased towards Slytherin this run or anything.
{Zacharias the L16 Careful Male Diglett (Diglett's Cave)}

Charlie the Hufflepuff joins at Route 11. So much for hopes of getting
a Drowzee...
{Charlie the L14 Bashful Male Sandshrew (Route 11)}

Old Rod fishes up Bellatrix the Gryffindor, who is immediately tossed
into Azkaban. I mean the Daycare.
{Bellatrix the L5 Bold Female Magikarp (Vermillion City)}

You know, it's odd. Ravenclaw would be an excellent house if I were
ACTUALLY GETTING ANY.

As if in answer, I got Lavender the Ravenclaw from Route 6. It's a pity
Pidgey has essentially nothing in the way of TM movepools. Also, I think
the game is trolling me: why else would all my Ravenclaws be
Flying-types?
{Lavender the L15 Mild Female Pidgey (Route 6)}

Since my chances of a balanced team are dying violently, I'm tossing
all Water-type Trainers at Weepinbell solo. I have a laughably strong
team for Erika, so I'll definitely be able to buy up Elemental Stones
and other items at Celadon.

I figure I might as well exploit the lack of a level cap on
non-Slytherins, because it's awkwardly capping the Slytherins below
evolution at the moment.
I deliberately bankrupt myself after S.S. Anne and before Surge because
of the Prisoner restriction.

Slytherin House, being the most cunning one, hides itself in the box
before Zacharias attempts Surge. Fortunately, he rolls high on
Magnitudes and wipes Surge... with 11 HP left, and certain death
from any Quick Attack.
Some people are more lucky than good.
His Housemates assure everyone they knew he had it in him all along.
(I had Horntail with Dig if he fell. Still - pretty nice.)

=Prisoner of Azkaban=
Sirius Black being on the loose didn't prevent me from sneaking out to
Hogsmeade! I mean, Pewter. Lily got a good hard workout on Dugtrios.

Route 10 yields up Snitch the... Gryffindor.
{Snitch the L14 Brave Voltorb (Route 10)}
Yeah, a Voltorb that can't switch out is dead meat.

Rock Tunnel produces Goyle the Slytherin.
{Goyle the L16 Adamant Male Geodude (Rock Tunnel)}
Around now, I unpleasantly realize that Weepinbell learns Razor Leaf
at L42. Why.

Crookshank the Gryffindor joins the party at Route 8.
{Crookshank the L18 Rash Male Meowth (Route 8)}

Also, at this point, I pay for Bellatrix's bail and give her a Rare
Candy. Behold the might of Gryffindor. Rather a pity this ISN'T
a game with Phys/Spec split. :\

I go and delay Eri*ka so I can have Lily in front for Giovanni.

[Illegitimate record]
WHAT THE BLEEP

Thanks to Mega Punch, I am now down two Pokemon. RIP Lily, RIP Ginny.

WOW.

WHAT FANCY B.S. IS THIS

...in other news, Bellatrix has received a promotion because I need
something at least neutral to Water and Ice.

=Goblet of Fire=
OKAY EVERYONE CHARIZARD RAMPAGE
LIVE BERSERK HORNTAIL ON THE LOOSE

Oh, and we establish Professor Binns was a Slytherin, as was Helena
Ravenclaw.
{Binns the L30 Careful Male Snorlax (Celadon Snorlax)}
{Helena the L15 Serious Female Gastly (Pokemon Tower)}

BUT WHO CARES WILD RAMPAGING HORNTAIL
AND IT'S GOING TO EAT EVERYONE AAAAAAH

And Parvati Patil has moved to Slytherin, but WHO CARES HORNTAIL AAAH
{Parvati the L33 Adamant Nidorina (Safari Zone)}
And Susan the Hufflepuff joins the crowd of people fleeing the Horntail!
{Susan the L9 Modest Goldeen (Fuchsia)}
The Weasley Twins of Gryffindor had no comment.
{F and G the L24 Hasty Doduo (Cycling Road)}

EVEN RIVAL
EVEN GIOVANNI
EVEN - okay, it calmed down when it defeated Sabrina.

Yeah, I pretty much lost my temper with the game when two core party
members folded to Mega Punch. (Well, a crit on Lily started the sweep...)

(I should mention that my strategy against Rival was to set up with Metal Claws on Pidgeot, then Wing Attack Blastoise. He inexplicably doesn't have anything stronger than Water Gun at Silph, so it was a manageable fight.)

=Order of the Phoenix=
I know it says "train up three team members". However... does that really count if you swept the Gym with one Pokemon? I just walked to Fuchsia after Sabrina and used Flamethrower on everything in sight.

I will be correcting this in HBP, not least because essentially all my recent catches have been Slytherins. Therefore I desperately need new ones, which means the Hufflepuffs may actually be trained up... maybe. Honestly, I just went straight to Koga because I needed Surf unlocked...

=Half-Blood Prince=
Su Li goes to Gryffindor.
{Su Li the L19 Impish Female Krabby (Route 19)}
Fleur goes to... Slytherin. Ugh.
{Fleur the L9 Lax Female Tentacool (Cinnabar Island)}
Neville to Hufflepuff.
{Neville the L23 Docile Male Tangela (Route 21)}
Fudge to Hufflepuff.
{Fudge the L29 Jolly Male Slowpoke (Seafoam Islands)}
Mundungus to Hufflepuff.
{Mundungus the L30 Docile Male Grimer (Pokemon Mansion)}
Deluminator to Hufflepuff.
{Delumintr the L25 Bashful Magnemite (Power Plant)}

Of the current crew, I will be training Bellatrix the Gyarados, Fudge the Slowpoke, and Delumintr the Magnemite. I don't have much choice. Slytherin has inexplicably gotten as many Pokemon as the other Houses put together (or, at least, it did before the streak of three Hufflepuffs in a row), and those are the best out of the available crew.

Thank heavens Fudge can get Surf.

Team Summary:
Spoiler:

Lily the Hufflepuff Weepinbell and Ginny the Ravenclaw Fearow died to Giovanni's Kangaskhan steamrolling with Mega Punch, but a team wipe was prevented by Giovanni's AI abruptly malfunctioning against Charmeleon and refusing to go in for the kill.

Current Team:
Horntail the Ravenclaw Charizard (L53) (L50 as victorious Triwizard Champion)
Since the entire Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix sections were soloed by Charizard, the Order of the Phoenix conditions will be moved to Half-Blood Prince.
Pokemon to be trained:
Bellatrix the Gryffindor Gyarados (L22)
Fudge the Hufflepuff Slowpoke (L29)
Delumintr the Hufflepuff Magnemite (L30)

Assuming no other disasters, Helena the Gastly will be the Slytherin team member, and that will enable a good Elite Four team.

I tried this once. It failed. Miserably.

So let's try again. But which game? Pulls random game out of cabinet. Dragon Quest VIII. That's a good Pokémon game.

Gonna go ahead and point out some updates that may need to be made to the old gen 6 thread:

Spoiler:
Eras need to be updated for gen 7. Keep in mind there are 11/12 "plot Z-Crystals" to collect. I'd probably do the following:
Dursley until Trial 1
Philo Stone until Hala
Chamber of Secrets until Water Trial
Prisoner of Askaban until Grass Trial
Goblet of fuego until Olivia
Order of Phoenix until Spooky Trial
1/2 Blood until Nanu
Hallows I until Lusamine II (SM)/Hapu (USUM) (Yes, this would mean anything killed in the UNecrozema fight would leave a blank spot for both Ribombee and Hapu with no new encounters between these fights... This might be a problem.)
Hallows II until champion
Buuut it's up to you.

This came up in the old thread too, but I'll repeat it here - Exp Share in gen 6/7. Might want to specify that it's banned if it is.
Z-Crystals I assume are banned on non-Slytherins, but might be worth mentioning
Deathly Hallows I - In gen 7 new mons can automagically join your team without going to the PC. Is this allowed?
Also in the 6th badge paragraph you wrote 7rd instead of 7th.

And that's all.

To be honest I totally forget about 7th gen, so thanks for pointing that out. I'll take a look in the old thread to see if Etherion said anything about Exp Share/Z-Crystals and will update the first post.

Hi i did a lot

DeciduPotterLocke Platinum
Gym Badges: 3
Current Era: Prisoner of that island stuff from FRLG
Deaths: 2+2+2+2= 8 Deaths

So for ranking the houses, I used a very objective system of points described in the spoiler below along with all the stuff that happened. This is so when ranking at the end of the run I don't forget which house carried the beginning. Here is where it stands so far:

House Cup
Hufflepuff - 85
Ravenclaw - 72
Slytherin - 21
Gryffindor - 17

The short explanation is, HPuff carried early, then Cordelia the Staravia died. Now HPuff and Ravenclaw are the only houses on my team.

And some fun facts if you don't want to read the whole log:
RClaw is in 2nd overall despite getting 0 points in the Dursley era. This is because I did not have a single Ravenclaw before the first gym. Now it's tied with Hufflepuff for the most Pokemon total and had 4 members on the team until one died in the last fight before this update.

Jupiter's Skuntank was responsible for nearly half my deaths so far with three. Roark, Fantina, and Mars killed one each. The other two deaths were randoms - Kjelle the Onix crit Henry the Gastly when I attempted to capture the former, and Gaius the Zubat died using his free Chivalry switch-in to save both present Ravenclaws.

And now for the log. It's a good four pages though. Happy reading, I guess!

Happenings
[*]Dursley Era
  • Tutorial
  • Starter is determined by Fate to be Turtwig, who I name Chrom. He’s a Hufflepuff. Excellent. +2 to Hufflepuff
  • Go to Sandgem and buy Pokeballs before the capture tutorial, and catch myself Cordelia the Starly, another Hufflepuff, on 201. +2 to Hufflepuff
  • Seriously Lucas, I know this stuff already.
  • Vaike the Bidoof is in Gryffindor, and will be going to the bench faster than I normally bench Vaike in Awakening. +2 to Gryf.
  • I opt out of a Lake Verity and Route 204 Encounter. 204 I’ll aim for something on the north part, and Verity I’ll keep as a backup for when I get surf.
  • Cordelia solos everything until Oreburg Gate, including DRACO encounter 2 but not including Ricken the Shinx, who I capture and throw into Gryffindor with the beaver. +2 to Gryf.
  • Gaius the Zubat is a Gryffindor too. +2 to Gryf.
  • Head north to reach Route 207, and pick up Basilio the Machop, who becomes the first Slytherin +2 to Sly.
  • From the mine, Sully the Geodude is “thoroughly cunning” but still somehow managed to end up in Hufflepuff. It’s better than the Bidoof that can’t use HMs anyway. +2 to HPuff.
  • Tarining, training, training.
  • VS Roark:
    • Chrom vs Geodude - Razor Leaf
    • Chrom vs Onix - Razor Leaf x3
    • Ricken/Chrom/Basilio - I tried to switch Ricken in and out to Intimidate Cranidos, but it turns out it knows Pursuit. Ricken fell to this nonsense, my first death of the run. Basilio landed the final blow by the way, even though Chrom did most of the work. In the end, Ricken’s death was honorable though, so it gets honor points. +1 to Sly, +3 to Gryf.
  • End-of-Era Bonus Points
    • Final team - Chrom (H), Cordelia (H), Gaius (G), Basilio (S), Sully (H). +15 to HPuff, +5 to Gryf, +5 to Sly.
    • MVPs - 1st: Chrom (H), 2nd: Cordelia (H), 3rd: Basilio (S) +15 to HPuff, +3 to Sly.
  • Total points this era:
    • Hufflepuff - 36 - Era Winner
    • Gryffindor - 14
    • Slytherin - 11
    • Ravenclaw - 0
  • Deaths this part: 1+0+0+0= 1 Death
    • Total Deaths this run: 1+0+0+0= 1 Death
[*]Philosopher’s Pokeball
  • Retreated to Jublife and said hi to INTERPOL again
  • Galactic
  • Intentionally avoided encounter in Ravaged Path and 204S
  • 204N gets me… Virion the Kricketot. He’s Quirky, finally giving me a Ravenclaw. +2 to RClaw.
  • Le Wondworks gets me Donnel the Shellos. Another Hufflepuff. He gets boxed to be a Surf slave at a later time. +2 to HPuff.
  • Virion, after only a single battle, gains the legendary power of… DELELELE WOOOOOOOOOP (that means evolving into Kricketune) +3 RClaw
  • I burn my Return TM here as well, to give my new best friend something it could attack Bug-resists with.

Challenge complete.
Rankings;
1. Hufflepuff
2. Ravenclaw
3. Gryffindor
4. Slytherin

My reasoning: Hufflepuff was rough early-game due to a lack of Pokemon, but came up in importance later on and eventually essentially soloed the Elite Four. Ravenclaw soloed two entire "books" and carried until it was time for late-game Water abuse. Gryffindor would have been lowest, but Bellatrix the Gyarados saved me from a death in the Champion battle and forced me to rank up the House appropriately. If I ranked based on overall performance, Slytherin would have scored third due to some utility for most of the game.

Spoiler:

=Half-Blood Prince=
Abused Vs. Seeker grinding on the Cycling Road Biker Cluster.
Evolved Deluminatr.

Anyway, Fudge evolved going through the Mansion, so I rolled most of
the Gym. However, the dogs on his team would have Bite, which hurt
in Silph, so... MOAR GRIND.

Took the opportunity to evolve a few Pokemon, since it's going to be
a long time between Badges 7 and 8.
Also got Percival the Poliwhirl in Viridian City.
{Percival the L29 Relaxed Male Poliwhirl (Viridian City)}

At L45, I went into Blaine and... several Hyper Potions and flinchhax
later... emerged victorious. Ouch. Never knew Arcanine Bit quite so hard.

=Deathly Hallows Pt. 1=
In a fit of brilliance, I talked to Bill and accidentally consented to
traveling to Sevii BEFORE I changed out Pokemon. OOPS.

I would get the following in Sevii, though I didn't know their Houses at the time:
Unicorn the L31 Docile Male Ponyta (Kindle Road): HUFFLEPUFF
Cormac the L32 Lax Male Machop (Mt. Ember): SLYTHERIN
Lockhart the L34 Rash Male Drowzee (Berry Forest): GRYFFINDOR

Nothing eventful happened there, but I did buy 50 Fresh Waters
in case of emergency. This became relevant much later.

Ground to evolve Mundungus at Celadon Bikers. Also leveled Bellatrix
because, really, L26 at Giovanni is a joke. I ground out L33 before
boredom set in. It's irritating Gryffindors can't use EXP Share. :\

Slowbro is genuinely a horrifying monstrosity, and Minister Fudge
won reelection after his campaign in the Viridian Gym. Heck yeah
Hufflepuff and its privilege of Surf abuse.

=Deathly Hallows Pt. 2=
AHAHAHAHAHAHA! FREEDOM FROM HOUSE DISUNITY! THE POSSIBILITY OF
SWITCHGRINDING BELLATRIX! HAHAHAHAH!

Oh, and I could use the PC again.
Also:
Griphook the L43 Docile Male Onix (Victory Road): HUFFLEPUFF

It turns out that, weakness to Bite or not, Slowbro was surprisingly
good at defeating Blastoises. Delumintr was not, suffering an unpleasantly
large amount of damage from Water Gun before I hastily punted the
fight to Fudge. There went my plans of using it in the Champion fight.

Mercifully, Helena the Gastly is a Slytherin, and so can take EXP Share.
However, the grind was long and the awesome power of Slowbro
increasingly appealing, so I got bored, YOLOed, and dumped 5 Rare Candies
down Fudge's throat.
This is not quite as dumb as it sounds, as Slowbro is stupidly tanky, I had
bought up ludicrous quantities of healing items with the cash I got from
grinding (~50x Hyper Potions, ~25x Max Potions, and ~12x Full Restores),
and I had been hoarding Rare Candies. It was pretty dumb, but it would
work out, as you'll see.

The key is really that nothing except Agatha and certain Champion Pokemon
could hit Slowbro super-effectively. Thanks to reading on Project NuzlockeDex,
I knew Charizard could solo Agatha with STAB alone, so I wasn't concerned about
that, and Champion's sole SE hits on Slowbro were Exeggutor (lol Flamethrower),
Arcanine (painfully tank with Charizard), and Blastoise (likely bearable, from
all prior experience). Survival would mainly be a matter of stat-checks on
never dropping into OHKO-by-critical range and having enough healing items
to PP-stall out nasty moves. Lance's Dragons would have been dangerous,
but I checked their moves on Psypokes and noticed absolutely none of them
had Thunderbolt; Outrage, with healing items allowed, is basically an invitation to
stall and wait for self-KO via confusion.

TL;DR: Unless something was a lot stronger than I anticipated or I ran out
of healing items, I could not lose.

Team going in:
Delumintr the Hufflepuff Magneton L47
Helena the Slytherin Haunter L40
Bellatrix the Gryffindor Gyarados L37
Fudge the Hufflepuff Slowbro L59 (after 5 Rare Candies)
Horntail the Ravenclaw Charizard L55
Binns the Slytherin Snorlax L30

Fudge soloed Lorelei and Bruno, though I dearly wish I had switched to
Horntail for Jynx because I was dying alternately of boredom and
rage at the incessant Lovely Kiss spam. Agatha got Horntail'd.

(To expand a bit upon Lorelei, I started dearly regretting not grinding
more when Fudge was stopped by the only good answer to Slowbro...
another Slowbro. That was such a profoundly awful battle. Not because
it could damage me much, but because it ate most of Fudge's PP and
it was so agonizingly slow to KO. Jynx managing to have a nearly
99% hit rate with Lovely Kiss (it's supposed to have 75%!) and scoring
Freeze on me several times did not help at all. I had ~30x Full Heals,
but still. Argh.

Bruno could not deal damage worth a darn, save for Mega Kick. However,
due to a very ugly experience in another FireRed Nuzlocke, I waited out
its PP via healing rather than barging forward. Hitmonlee DID score one
critical Mega Kick, so I was very, very glad Fudge was at full HP...

Agatha was an ugly mess that had me wishing I bought more Full
Restores rather than relying on Max Potion + Full Heal, but I could
have used Full Restores, as it turned out in the end. Still - I was impressed
by how much damage Sludge Bomb did, and it could have turned very
ugly indeed if she had scored a critical at the wrong time. Fortunately
Horntail managed to Flamethrower his way through the lineup, just
as I had read. Perhaps it's just my experience with Gen 1, but I honestly
thought the Gengar line had better Sp. Def than that. Sheesh.)

Lance was not so much a strategy as incessant healing while waiting
for Outrage confusion. Gulped an Elixir before the battle and threw Fudge at him.
(To expand - yeah, I did have to wait out the Outrages, because Outrages
were scoring in the 60-70 range and Fudge only had ~180 HP. However,
Gyarados and Aerodactyl were shockingly easy. I would feel a lot guiltier
about abusing healing items if Lance hadn't dragged on the fight with
Full Restores to his Dragons. Besides which, if I hadn't been a
fair-playing Hufflepuff and banned from TM usage, healing abuse wouldn't
be necessary on account of 2HKOs from Ice Beam and/or Blizzard. >_>)

THAT WAS AN INCREDIBLY TENSE RIVAL FIGHT BUT ACTUALLY IT WORKED.
I NEEDED ALMOST EVERY HEALING ITEM I TOOK IN. THAT'S HILARIOUS. I
DIDN'T EXPECT TO GET CHEWED DOWN TO MY LAST FEW FULL RESTORES.

AHAHAHAHA. Oh gad.

Okay, let me recap:
Led with Deluminatr. Midway through Pidgeot's HP, Rival switches out
to Rhydon.

I switch to Fudge and Surf it down.

He puts in Arcanine once it falls. Since I had a few bad moments in
the Blaine fight and Rival fights with Bite, I go to Horntail instead.
It's a rough fight, requiring much healing, but I manage it anyway.

Oh wait, I forgot to set the fighting mode back to Shift after grinding?!
AHAHAHAHAH NO NOT FACING BLASTOISE WITH CHARIZARD. And I can't go to
Fudge because I never got around to healing it. Okay, Bellatrix, go
sacrifice yourself. Except then she successfully tanks both Hydro
Pump and (after a heal) Skull Bash. I switch her out successfully and
prepare for Fudge melee. Except Bite does more than 33% HP and I'm
not dealing much damage with Psychic, so I need to heal. Fortunately,
its AI is brain-dead and renews Rain Dance EVERY time it goes down,
so I get one free turn every 5 rounds. I wouldn't be able to
outlast on Hyper Potion stock alone, but fortunately I bought 50
Fresh Waters in Sevii Islands for the heck of it and can use it on
the ~60-damage Bites most of the time. Ahahahaha.
Many turns later, Blastoise collapses, Rival having run out of Full
Restores for it. Great. I'm the Champ-

Oh right, this isn't Gen 1 and Blastoise doesn't have to be the final
Pokemon. Oh, that's an Exeggutor, that's awkward. Fortunately the
nearly-full-health Fudge tanks a Giga Drain while I heal Horntail
again. I switch in, and - oh, hooray, it's the ever-so-beloved
Poke Flute spam vs. Hypnosis spam. I loved that so much in Gen 1. It's
so good. (I swear Nintendo put the Sleep moves in Elite Four just to
troll. Poke Flute gives infinite heals, so it's really just to
frustrate you.)

After that, I'm d- Oh, right, he has an Alakazam! Oh, yeah, that thing.
It would really scare me if I didn't have a Slowbro. A few Strengths
to the face later, it goes down. I'm d-

Oh wait, I never DID KO Pidgeot! Despite a Future Sight to the teeth,
Fudge doesn't even flinch, mowing it down without difficulty. And I
finally, FINALLY hit the end.

That was one of the most terrifying Rival fights I've ever had. :D o_O Nonetheless, no deaths to Elite Four, so I close it out there.

Well, that happened.

DeciduPotterLocke Platinum
Gym Badges: 8
Current Era: Run Complete
Deaths: 3+2+2+2= 9 Deaths

So for ranking the houses, I used a very objective system of points described in the spoiler below along with all the stuff that happened. This is so when ranking at the end of the run I don't forget which house carried the beginning. Here are the final standings:

Final House Cup Scores:
  • Ravenclaw - 359
  • Hufflepuff - 260
  • Gryffindor - 65
  • Slytherin - 61

Really between the 2nd and 5th gym Ravenclaw took off. Once Robin (Gardevoir) was captured and subsequently declared the Triwizard Champion, the stage was set. Real talk though, Lucina (Quagsire) and Sumia (Probopass) were huge the entire back half of the run. Shoutouts to Virion (Kricketune) for getting the Ravenclaw hype train running.

Robin was the overall run MVP, but Chrom (Torterra) was only two arbitrary points behind overall. The issue is after Cordelia (Staravia) died to Jupiter, there were really no other really good Puffs except like Maribelle (Rapidash), and Cerche (Altaria). The other obligatory shoutout is Gangrel (Golduck), who was an awesome HM slave and left Chrom’s movepool far more open than it would have been otherwise.

The battle for 3rd and 4th came down to the Pokemon used for DH2 for each house - Morgan (Uxie) for Slytherin, Inigo (Garchomp) for Gryffindor. By virtue of evolving once and getting the final KO on one E4 member, Inigo earned 5 more points than Morgan, which gave Gryffindor it’s 4-point lead.

Some musings on the top team members

Spoiler:
Robin (Gardevoir) - Gardevoir is such a great Pokemon. I’ve beaten every region in a Gallade solo, so I can attest plenty to how awesome this line is, but Gardevoir was a pretty new experience. TM access to TBolt, Psychic and CM by level-up, and Magical Leaf because why not is a great moveset for ingame. Super happy with this rare roll. A pleasure to use.

Chrom (Torterra) - What can I say about Torterra? It tanks stuff and hits like a truck. Turtwig was my first ever Pokemon, and now I remember why he was such fun to use.

Sumia (Probopass) - Rock/Steel is a badass typing. Nothing except Fighting, Ground, and Water moves hit her for relevant damage, and Da Klaw had Lucina to tank those (until DH2, where I could have Morgan switch in for literally nothing on the former two types). Once she could do actual damage with Flash Cannon, she became one of my true powerhouses. Also she nearly soloed the Galactic HQ because nothing could hit her. Probopass is a Pokemon I’ve never used before, and I’m glad the RNG forced me to do so.

Lucina (Quagsire) - The final member of what became the holy trinity of Ravenclaws in the 2nd half of the game, Lucina provided immense utility to the team. Water/Ground is arguably the best typing in the game. Yawn snagged some free KOes. Oh, and Earthquake by level-up.

Inigo (Garchomp) - I figure I should at least mention the best ‘mon from each house, and Inigo was realistically the only Gryffindor that actually did stuff. Inigo, despite being the 3rd Ground-type on my E4 team, applied just the right amount of pressure exactly where and when needed. A pleasure for the like 6 actual battles he was used in.

Morgan (Uxie) - I generally don’t use legendaries in-game, but I felt the urge to do so for this run and I have no regrets. Uxie was a defensive monster who complimented my team superbly despite the obvious type clash with Robin.

And now for the log. I left the last update because the thing was being stubborn, so this is a full log of the entire run.

    • Oh by the way, Kjelle also crit Henry during the capture attempt, so he’s dead too. RIP Slytherin.
    • I train up my 5 favorites (Chrom, Maribelle, Virion, Sumia, Robin) to 23ish, evolving Robin and Sumia into Kirlia and Probopass respectively. Kjelle gets the 6th slot for this gym. +6 RClaw
    • Sumia combined with the rest of Ravenclaw take down Fantina in a really hard battle, with the only casualty being Kjelle. Era end. +4 RClaw
    • End-of-Era Bonus Points
      • Final team - Chrom, Maribelle (H), Virion, Sumia, Robin (R) +10 HPuff, +15 RClaw
      • MVPs - 1st: Virion (R), 2nd: Chrom (H), 3rd: Sumia (R). +5 to HPuff, +13 to RClaw.
    • Total points this era:
      • Ravenclaw - 47 - Era Winner (1 era won)
      • Hufflepuff - 22
      • Slytherin - 5
      • Gryffindor - 0
    • Deaths this part: 0+1+2+2= 5 Deaths
      • Total Deaths this run: 2+2+2+2= 8 Deaths
  • The Prisoner of Two Island
    • New characters: Brady the Roselia and Laurent the Kadabra. +2 RClaw, +2 Gryf
    • Aaaaand yup, that’s it. Robin soloed Maylene. +1 RClaw
    • End-of-Era Bonus Points
      • Final team - Chrom, Maribelle (H), Virion, Sumia, Robin, Brady (R) +10 HPuff, +20 RClaw
      • MVPs - 1st: Robin (R), 2nd: Chrom (H), 3rd: Virion (R). +5 to HPuff, +13 to RClaw.
    • Total points this era:
      • Ravenclaw - 36 - Era Winner (2 eras won)
      • Hufflepuff - 15
      • Gryffindor - 2
      • Slytherin - 0
    • Deaths this part: 0+0+0+0= 0 Deaths (yay)
      • Total Deaths this run: 2+2+2+2= 8 Deaths
  • The Goblet of Fire-Types
    • Ugh, I have to pick a champion. Well, it’s obviously going to be a Ravenclaw, but… Oh wait, Robin’s one level away from evolving. Let’s do that.
    • Anyway, YAY POKEMART ACCESS!!! TM Thunder is purchased for Sumia, some Pokeballs because I was almost out, and X-items because more people should use these tbh.
    • Oh, and welcome to the team, Kellam the Girafarig, Cynthia the Chatot, Gerome the Tropius, and Lucina the Quagsire. +2 HPuff, +4 Sly, +2 RClaw
    • Robin nicely decided to evolve into Gardevoir. +3 RClaw
    • DRACO is like 10 levels higher than me. It’s fine though, Monferno and Buizel literally can’t touch Lucina.
    • T R A I N I N G
    • G A M E C O R N E R
    • Armed with Thunderbolt, Robin smashes everything in Wake’s gym, including Wake. This Pokemon is stupidly overpowered. +1 RClaw
    • End-of-Era Bonus Points
      • Final team - Chrom (H), Virion, Sumia, Robin, Lucina (R), Laurent (G)+5 HPuff, +20 RClaw, +5 Gryf
      • MVPs - 1st: Robin (R),2nd: Sumia (R), 3rd: Lucina (R). +18 to RClaw.
    • Total points this era:
      • Ravenclaw - 44 - Era Winner (3 eras won)
      • Hufflepuff - 7
      • Gryffindor - 5
      • Slytherin - 4
    • Deaths this part: 0+0+0+0= 0 Deaths (yay)
      • Total Deaths this run: 2+2+2+2= 8 Deaths
  • Order of the Ho-Oh
    • Only one obligatory new-gym capture for now, which nets me Cerche the Swablu because I was smart and didn’t encounter anything on 210 earlier. +2 HPuff
    • While we’re giving Hufflepuff points, Chrom finally evolved into Torterra and Cerche evolved into Altaria. +6 HPuff
    • Cyrus exists, and I only mention him to give Sumia and Ravenclaw a point. +1 RClaw
    • Hi DRACO. You still can’t hit Lucina. Like, at all.
    • Now that I have Surf, it’s time to go on a catching spree. Gangrel the Psyduck and Libra the Tentacool are picked up from towns, and Gregor the Magmar is obtained from the Ironworks. +2 HPuff, +2 Sly, +2 RClaw
    • The Species Clause, as I’ve always interpreted it, blocks all encounters in Iron Island.
    • T R A I N I N G
    • Maribelle decides to evolve into Rapidash finally +3 HPuff
    • Oh hey, Maribelle and Chrom don’t suck anymore!
    • You know who else doesn’t suck? Lucina. That said, Bryon still killed off Vaike, who I brought and didn’t train at all. +1 RClaw, +3 Gryf
    • End-of-Era Bonus Points
      • Final team - Chrom, Maribelle, Cerche (H), Lucina, Robin (R) +15 HPuff, +10 RClaw
      • MVPs - 1st: Chrom (H),2nd: Lucina (R), 3rd: Robin (R). +10 HPuff, +8 RClaw
    • Total points this era:
      • Hufflepuff - 38 - Era Winner (3 eras won)
      • Ravenclaw - 22
      • Gryffindor - 3
      • Slytherin - 2
    • Deaths this part: 1+0+0+0= 1 Deaths
      • Total Deaths this run: 3+2+2+2= 9 Deaths
  • Half-Blood Princess
    • Now I have 7 Pokemon I’d really like to use thanks to Cerche and Maribelle. Virion gets cut for now, but I forsee deaths in this part and the whole double-kill condition exists here. Sadly Maribelle is impractical for the next gym, as the rest of the relevant HPuff members are 4x weak to Ice.
    • Ravenclaw is mad that I let Puff do most of the last chapter, so they beat up Saturn and Mars (In both cases Robin gets credit). +2 RClaw
    • This chapter gets a whole three encounters: Tiki the Snover, Yarne the Swinub, and Owain the Sneasel. Three Hufflepuff. Lovely. +6 HPuff
    • While I could care less about Tiki and Yarne, Owain will be joining the team as I bench the two quad-weaks, leaving my team as 3 Ravenclaw, 2 Hufflepuff, and the obligatory Gryffindor for Candice.
    • The Snowpoint gym SHOULD be one of the hardest in the game. But, you know, Sumia has Flash Cannon now (ty Bryon). Robin snuck in the final blow as usual (Abomasnow carries Focus Blast, so I couldn’t let Sumia do it), so the bonus point goes there. +1 RClaw
    • End-of-Era Bonus Points
      • Final team - Owain, Maribelle (H), Lucina, Robin, Sumia (R), Laurent (G)+10 HPuff, +15 RClaw, +5 Gryf
      • MVPs - 1st: Sumia (R),2nd: Robin (R), 3rd: Maribelle (H). +3 HPuff, +15 RClaw
    • Total points this era:
      • Ravenclaw - 33 - Era Winner (4 eras won)
      • Hufflepuff - 19
      • Gryffindor - 5
      • Slytherin - 0
    • Deaths this part: 0+0+0+0= 0 Deaths (yay)
      • Total Deaths this run: 3+2+2+2= 9 Deaths
  • The Deathly Pokedolls Part I
    • Oh god I only get one team for this part. And there is all of two new encounters for this whole part, and I have to beat Cyrus twice before I can even access them.
    • Well, as many as seven technically, but all of them are after Cyrus III. Acuity should be before, but Species Clause blocks every encounter here except Uxie (which is only unlocked after Cyrus III). Sendoff Spring and Route 222 are the encounters I actually planned to get. 223, Sunnyshore, and the League all could potentially be accessed here, but how is a Mantyke going to help with Volkner? The other encounter I get is Giratina, which… I may or may not use? Is it allowed? I see no reason it wouldn’t be. It’s the first encounter in the Distortion World.
    • Point is though, if anyone dies I’m 5-manning it through Giratina, if two die… I don’t even want to think about it.
    • So let’s start with the obligatory members: Chrom and Robin (I swear I didn’t plan this when naming them) are basically must-haves as my primary damage output. There’s a reason they have 134 house points (31% of the total from everyone) between them.
    • Next, HMs. Cerche is my only Flying Hufflepuff, and Gangrel is the obvious choice for a Surfing one because I can give him Rock Climb, Rock Smash, and Strength to go with it (and also the other option is Donnel). Chrom will maintain Cut, but this also frees up a moveslot for Crunch when he learns it.
    • This leaves two spots free, with four options: Lucina, Sumia, Maribelle, and Owain. The major battles will be: Cyrus II, Saturn, Jupiter/Mars multi battle, and Cyrus III. Given everything Cyrus throws at me is Rock-weak and the other three commanders all share a Rock weakness in Golbat, I’d say Sumia locks up slot five. By virtue of “Ravenclaw is still going to do most of the damage”, I decide on Lucina for the final slot just to keep that trinity of Robin/Lucina/Sumia together.
    • First order of business with this team is getting Gangrel to a state where he can use all those HMs. Specifically, this means evolving him to Golduck. +3 HPuff
    • “Don’t waste your time coming to our HQ in Vilestone” - Commander Jupiter
    • “Well? Will you enter their hideout? You have your reasons, yes?” - Looker
    • Sumia tears through the entire Galactic Hideout almost by herself, including soloing Cyrus. +1 RClaw
    • Robin, for her part, solos Saturn. +1 RClaw
    • And now we come to the most annoying part of just about any Platinum playthrough - The ascent of Mt. Coronet. Except in my case, I can only use half my team in each fight and if they faint I can’t replace them! Yay!
    • Honestly Looker, you are the most incompetent police officer ever.
    • Anyway, Robin zaps some fools on the way up the mountain.
    • Mars and Jupiter. I begin the fight exactly as was intended - Nuking DRACO’s Munchlax so that he brings out his actual Pokemon. Robin then spams Calm Mind while waiting for Infernape to kill the annoying Bronzor and waiting for the Light Screen to fall. Then I switch in Lucina and go ham. Floatzel is even kind enough to Aqua Jet Lucina because Water Absorb, which ends up saving me a Hyper Potion. +2 RClaw
    • Dear Arceus I hate this place so much.
    • Oh look, Cyrus. Yay.
    • Lucina leads and nukes Houndoom, Robin drops a TBolt on Gyarados, Sumia cleans house with a couple Thunder on Honchkrow, Flash Cannon and Rock Slide on Weavile, and a pair of Thunder for Crobat. +1 RClaw
    • I’m not in the mood for Giratina’s Shadow Fource BS today, so have a Master Ball you stupid ghost. Also have a name. It’s Grima. Grima the Giratina. Catchy. Aaaaand it’s TIMID. YOU’RE LITERALLY A GOD, WHY THE HECK ARE YOU TIMID????? But, like, Ravenclaw. Internet consensus seems to be that legendaries are ok as long as they follow all the other rules of the Locke, including the first encounter rule. Therefore, I’m going with it. +2 RClaw
    • Since the game was nice enough to drop us at Sendoff Spring, I figure I should abuse it. Welcome, Noire the Dusclops. That’s the twelfth Hufflepuff. I’ve only ever had 4 Gryfindors, but twelve HPuff. +2 HPuff
    • Also, Morgan the Uxie. Like I said, Species blocked every other encounter in Acuity (but I didn’t actually have any regardless!). I wonder who the obligatory Slytherin in my final team will be, hmmm? +2 Sly
    • Lon’qu the Electabuzz is here too. Points where points are due! +2 Gryf
    • Oh, and Lucina solos the Sunnyshore Gym. No deaths for yet another part, somehow. +1 RClaw
    • End-of-Era Bonus Points
      • Final team - Chrom, Gangrel, Cerche (H), Lucina, Robin, Sumia (R) +15 HPuff, +15 RClaw
      • MVPs - 1st: Sumia (R),2nd: Lucina (R), 3rd: Robin (R). +18 RClaw
    • Total points this era:
      • Ravenclaw - 41 - Era Winner (5 eras won)
      • Hufflepuff - 20
      • Slytherin - 2
      • Gryffindor - 0
    • Deaths this part: 0+0+0+0= 0 Deaths (yay)
      • Total Deaths this run: 3+2+2+2= 9 Deaths
  • The Deathly Pokedolls Part II
    • I mean, I could use the box here, but I like this team, so let’s do some captures first.
    • Frederick the Pelipper is found on the way to VR, and Inigo the Gabite is my last encounter for the run. +2 Sly, +2 Gryf
    • So, team decisions. Inigo will be joining the team as the obligatory Gryffindor, and Morgan as the Slytherin (because, like, Uxie). Gangrel and Chrom are stuck with HM responsibilities through VR, though Gangrel will be traded at the league for a player to be named later. This basically leaves two Ravenclaw slots, which sucks because I really need three (well, I WANT four so I can include Grima, but that’s clearly not happening). Obviously Robin is here, because she’s got the most points now. I elect to bring Sumia for that sweet, sweet Rock/Steel coverage, but I intend Lucina to be the final member of The Six.
    • Inigo evolves into Garchomp in Victory Road. +3 Gryf
    • So this is where the level curve in this game starts to go insane. The last trainer in Victory Road’s highest level is 47. DRACO’s Pokemon range from 47 to 51. Within the five battles of the E4, there is a 13 level distance between Aaron’s Yanmega and Cynthia’s Garchomp. Aaron’s ace is Lucian’s minimum.
    • T R A I N I N G
    • Spent all my money on Potions and stuff
    • DRACO gets trolled by Morgan’s ridiculous tankiness.
    • Oh kay, E4 time I guess:
    • Aaron: Sumia led into Yanmega and pushed Power Gem. Inigo helped out with Heracross and Lucina with Drapion. Scizor I stalled with Potions, Paralysis, and Sumia. Vespiquen was of course a couple Power Gems. +1 RClaw
    • Bertha: She led Whiscash into Chrom, the latter of whom pushes Razor Leaf. Gliscor is Ground/Flying - Lucina’s department. Chrom Razor Leafs Hippowdon and Golem a few times. Normally I’d be fine leaving Chrom in here, buuuut I did research, so I know Rhyperior has Avalanche. So, Lucina. A couple X-Defends were used for safety. +1 RClaw
    • Flint: I have a Quagsire. Houndoom falls to Lucina as expected. However, Sun is up and the incoming Rapidash knows Solarbeam, so Inigo actually handles that and Flareon with relative ease. With Sun down, Magmortar’s Solarbeam is no longer threatening, so Lucina cleans that up too. Flint’s Infernape has a very strong Earthquake attack, but Lucina’s Earthquake proves stronger. +1 RClaw
    • Lucian: Disclaimer - I hate this fight with a passion. Luckily, Inigo starts out with double Crunch crits to take out Mr. Mime and Espeon. Then my least favorite part of this fight - Bronzong. I have Lucina yawn at it, then Chrom comes in and, with an X-Attack buff, Crunches it repeatedly. Morgan comes out to timestall and allow me to heal off of Alakazam, marking the first time I’ve ever used all four houses in a battle. After a good ol’ Hyper Potion (and a Yawn), Inigo comes back in to Crunch the annoying Psychic-type. Gallade’s weaknesses are Ghost and Flying - two types totally unrepresented in my movepools. The solution: Earthquake it. Duh. Robin makes her first E4 appearance to weaken the thing, then Chrom comes in and pushes Earthquake. +1 HPuff
    • Cynthia: Welp, here goes nothing… Spiritomb isn’t just weak to nothing on my team, he’s weak to absolutely nothing. The solution: Earthquake it. Duh. Lucina is the chosen one here though. Roserade is next, and a 1-CM Psychic from Robin does the trick here. Lucario is a brat though. Chrom’s EQ is just short of a KO, which summons a Full Restore and then… a switch to Togekiss. Uhhhhh… I can’t use Sumia, it knows Aura Sphere. So… Morgan it is? Morgan! After an X SpDef and some Hyper Potion spam, the party is back at full health and Inigo can come in to nab the KO on Togekiss. And then, well…

      Problem: Hers is 8 levels above mine. I decide the play here is to switch in Morgan (but not there, because set mode rules) and play “Buff the Uxie”. This is a variation of a game I learned in USUM called “Buff the Wishiwashi” The plan is you sleep ‘em, then spam X Items. At +2 in both defences and +1 in SpA, there is really no reason to swap out Morgan, so it KOes both Garchomp and Lucario. That said, Milotic has Mirror Coat. Yawn removes this problem. However, for moral purposes, I decide to switch Robin back in for the final KO. She deserved it. +1 RClaw
    • Aaaaand that’s it! Run over! 9 deaths is my best Nuzlocke ever, even with all the stupid rules. Really fun run overall.
    • End-of-Era Bonus Points
      • Final team -Awarded below in the End-of-run section

I love reviving older challenges that I forget to complete...
Dursley Era
https://i.imgur.com/IWXfJNJ.png
So last digit is 0, so I can choose my starter... And 2nd digit is 6, so I'll go with Charmander!
Starter - Charmander, nicknamed Harry, Sassy - Ravenclaw
Beat Rival without much problems!
Route 1 - Pidgey, nicknamed Larry, Timid - Ravenclaw
Route 22 - Rattata, nicknamed Tera, Mild - Ravenclaw
Beat Rival once again!
Route 2 - Caterpie, nicknamed Tania, Calm - Ravenclaw
And 1st death of the run goes to Tera. I wanted to train her, but it was too much for her. Died to a crit from another Rattata. I didn't want to use her anyway.
Tania evolved during the same training.
Viridian Forest - Weedle, nicknamed Ting, Bold - Gryffindor
Tania evolved again! And Harry almost died because of poison. But I was able to save him with combination of Potions and the shortest route to Pokémon Centrum.
Philosopher's Stone
Harry evolved after solo'ing Brock. I'm not sure how would I beat him if Harry died to that poison from earlier.
Route 3 - Spearow, nicknamed Kalla, Gentle - Hufflepuff
Mt. Moon - Zubat, I ran out of Pokéballs on him
Route 4 - Mankey, nicknamed Rash, Naughty - Slytherin
Route 24 - Oddish, nicknamed Snoop, Calm - Ravenclaw
Larry evolved!
Route 5 - Meowth, nicknamed Jess, Jolly - Hufflepuff
With the combination of Snoop and Tania, I was able to take down Misty!
Chamber of Secrets
Returned to Route 25 - Abra, teleported away
And I can't get anything on Route 6, because I already caught everything.
Rash and Larry died in the battle with Raticate. Both from full health after one Hyper Fang.
It's time to train! And Snoop evolved! And Kalla fainted. I'm starting to think that I shouldn't have Flying-Type.
Route 11 - Ekans, nicknamed Bell, Jolly - Hufflepuff
Also got Old Rod, so I can catch Magikarp.
Vermilion City - Magikarp, nicknamed Rai, Lonely - Slytherin
Diglett's Cave - Diglett, nicknamed Zatty, Mild - Ravenclaw
Also this happened:
https://i.imgur.com/YXqYxMt.png
And then Zatty did her part in beating Lt. Surge, but died in battle with Raichu.
And finally, Rai evolved and I can save.

Okay, here's small update about my magical adventure in the Kanto. I have a feeling that rest of the run will be interesting, funny and challenging...

Goblet of Fire
And Harry evolved right at the start of Team Rocket Hideout.
Pokmon Tower - Ghastly, nicknamed Fill, Modest - Hufflepuff
Snoop evolved!
Tania died to some Grunt's Golbat at Silph Co.
I put Bell on team and trained her until she evolves.
And during Rival battle, Brom evolved!
Beat Giovanni again pretty much only with Harry.
And solo'd Sabrina with Harry too. He's getting really strong.

Order of the Pheonix
And with that, Kanto enters next year - Harry, Snoop and Rai are benched for this segment, while Fill, Gambit and Jess are in!
And the grind begins! Jess and Fill evolved, while Gambit will have to stay as Growlithe for now.
I plan on swapping my team more, when I catch new Pokmon.

Of course you can. Why not? It's not limited thing. Have fun! ????

Anyway, I'm currently training on the Victory Road and will probably post final update tomorrow.

Janp June 15th, 2018 8:16 AM

Route 16 - Snorlax, nicknamed Mona, Timid - Ravenclaw
Route 17 - Doduo, nicknamed Tria, Docile - Hufflepuff
I finally got Good Rod and can fish up some Water-Type.
Fuchsia City - Goldeen, nicknamed Aquaman, Naughty - Slytherin
Safari Zone - Nidorina, nicknamed Ivy, Gentle - Hufflepuff
And with that, it's time for the Gym!
And Fill dies to 1st Hypno in the Gym...
Jess dies to Sandslash. That's Dumbledore's Army for you...
Let's train Tria before 2nd attempt.
And... Gambit dies to Selfdestruct from Koga's Koffing.
But another era completed!

Half-Blood Prince
Route 15 - Venonat, nicknamed Jamey, Relaxed - Gryffindor
Route 14 - Ditto, nicknamed Bik, Bold - Gryffindor
Route 12 - Horsea, nicknamed Dracar, Jolly - Hufflepuff
Route 13 - Krabby, nicknamed Clem, Sassy - Ravenclaw
I put Dracar on the team for the Surf and to train a little
Route 20 - Tentacool - crit killed it
Seafom Island - Seel, nicknamed Misty, Timid - Ravenclaw
Cinnabar Island - Shellder, nicknamed Sheldon, Bashful - Hufflepuff
Pokemon Mansion - Koffing - beat it
Dracar was able to solo Blaine and with that, ended this segment

Deathly Hallows Part 1
It's finally here. The final part of the challenge.
Route 21 - Tangela, nicknamed Dyll, Sassy - Ravenclaw
Also I just now figured out I could use marks to see what house do my Pokémon belong to... Well, it's something for next run.
Anyway, my team for this segment and probably for the rest of the game - Harry, Snoop, Dracar, Bik, Tria, Brom
And this was fast segment... I literally just flew to the Viridian City, swapped my team and solo'd Giovanni with Dracar

Deathly Hallows Part 2
Final battle's here!
And first victim... Tria died to Rival's Alakazam on Route 22.
Route 23 - Psyduck, nicknamed May, Naive - Hufflepuff
Victory Road - Marowak - crit killed it
Right before E4, I bought Full Restores and Revives.
Then sold all the Revives back and bought another Full Restores.
With the combination of all houses, I was able to beat Lorelei without loosing anyone.
Bruno's down too. Agatha too. Still alive.
After all, Brom died to one of the Lance's Dragonites.
Rival battle was easy and with that, I completed the challenge.

House Cup
It's oblivious that Ravenclaw was on top since the 1st encounters. Harry carried me through most of the game while Snoop provided good coverage for him - and pretty much was only Pokémon that beat Rival's Blastoise. Hufflepuff's on the 2nd place, mostly because Dracar and Jess. I used latter for Pickup until she died. And Dumbledore's Army was amde out of Hufflepuff students - before they all died.
Slytherin had good run with Rai and Brom... Well, mostly Brom. His death was probably the saddest death in the run. And finally, Gryffindor. I literally used only Bik, the Ditto and only used him against Rival's Alakazam ou Route 22 and in the Champion battle AND against Lance, where it almost died.

I have a question on this rule. Is this like a power-up which can be activated once during an episode (for example, while on the philosopher's stone episode, during a battle against a youngster, a Slytherin member needs help and a Gryffindor member rescues it by switching in. Then, until the next badge, I cannot switch with that same Gryffindor) or is it only during the gym battle?

Thanks for the quick answer!

It can be interpreted both ways. I interpreted it as "once per segment" thing, but actually never used it in my run.

I'll do this!

How do you guys interprete the Hufflepuff's malus? Is it all status moves or only those who cause status effect?

All Status moves. I kept some on my non-Hufflepuff Pokmon, limiting their movesets to bigger challenge.

Episode 1

Deaths: 0 | Badges: 0

Oh boy what a hurricane of emotions...

Started my adventure a few days ago and managed to beat Gardenia, though I had some problems...

Dursley Era

My first member was Baloo, the Chimchar. And after reaching Sandgem Town, I ran back ro ute 201 and caught Manford, the Starly.

In route 202, a Shinx named Devon joined the team, and together we went all the way to Oreburgh City with no problems.

Baloo and Manford evolved and we beat the first Gym!

Catches:

Manford, the Starly, Route 201;
Devon, the Shinx, Route 202;
Calypso, the Kricketot, Route 204;
Xander, the Zubat, Ravaged Path;
Pegaso, the Ponyta, Route 207.

The Philosopher's Stone

The sorting begins!

Baloo was sorted into Slytherin!
Manford was sorted into Slytherin!
Devon was sorted into Gryffindor!
Calypso was sorted into Gryffindor!
Xander was sorted into Gryffindor!
Pegaso was sorted into Gryffindor!

Well, just Slies and Gryffs for now... Until Valley Windworks! Captured a Shellos named Gary who was sorted into Ravenclaw! Unfortunately, he died during level up.

In Eterna Forest though, another Sly joined the team: Diana, the Budew!

Mt. Coronet gave us a Bronzor named Igor, who was sorted into Gryffindor.

Gardenia was a piece of cake for Slytherin, and the house is in lead with 2 Gym battles won!

Catches:

Gary, the Shellos, Valley Windworks (R.I.P.);
Diana, the Budew, Eterna Forest;
Igor, the Bronzor, Mt. Coronet.

The Chamber of Secrets

Now the sadness and depression begins. Both my aces, Baloo and Manford, were deceased.

You may be wondering: "Jupiter?". Well... No, a random trainer at the Cycling Road and a wild Gligar... Who joined the team! Sia is now a Slytherin!

Catch:

Sia, the Gligar, Route 206.

You can use the [img]{link}[/img] template, where in {link} you put the image link.

For instance, posting this:

HTML Code:

Gives you this:

It's been a while since I did a Nuzlocke, and these added rules sound like fun, so here's my sign-up, I add this to my list of to-do's:

I'm not entirely sure what the GIFT clause is. Does this mean no gift-Pokemon, or gifts don't count as first location encounter? Anyway, I never liked using gift-Pokemon in Nuzlockes, including starters (I "give them back" to the Professor after catching my first encounter), so I'll add that as an additional rule if this doesn't contradict the main rules.

I interpreted as no Gift Pokemon allowed whatsoever. Opened an exception to my starter though.

Episode 2

Deaths: 3 | Badges: 2

The Chamber of Secrets

Ah, my heart...

Sia, the Gligar, died to a Self-Destructing Geodude... God, how I hate those.

Carrying on, we got to Hearthome City, and after a bit of training, we went to the gym.

The gym battle was entirely Gryffindor's, highlights to everyone. Igor and Xander survived with bits of health though... Our 3rd badge is on hand!

Catches:

No catches in this segment.

The Prisoner of Azkaban

Now we can't buy items in Marts! Hurray!

But I was smart enough to stock up some medicine before the gym battle, so we are set for the heat.

A new catch on Route 209, a Bibarel named Levee!

Route 210 gifted me with another self-exploding Geodude, but we're fine this time. And in Route 211 a Kadabra, called George, joined!

Both went to Ravenclaw.

A Gastly from Lost Tower is caught! His name is James and he is the first Hufflepuff member!

I returned to Hearthome and trained Levee and George so they could stick with the team.

In Ruin Maniac Cave, I caught Pepe, the Geodude. And in Route 214, Leela, the Rhyhorn. They went to Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, respectively.

I'm now at Veilstone, and a gym battle awaits. Maylene starts with Meditite and me with George, which I then realized was a big mistake, but it was too late. George was deceased. I had to switch out to Levee, and he beat Meditite, but with the obvious type disadvantage, died to Machoke. Gryffindor is my only hope now, so I sent out Xander. Machoke went down, but Lucario is now a problem.

I had nothing strong against it, so Gryffindor had to use their pure force. An attack-raising Metal Claw scared me, and I'm so glad that I bought those Super Potions. Spammed them on Xander while I hoped Lucario missed a Metal Claw. I decided to switch out to Igor, but it was a mistake, because Lucario healed himself with Drain Punch. So i switched back to Xander and somehow, he defeated the wolf. A A very bloody badge was obtained.

Catches:

Levee, the Bibarel, Route 209 (R.I.P.);
James, the Gastly, Lost Tower;
George, the Kadabra, Route 211;
Leela, the Rhyhorn, Route 214;
Pepe, the Geodude, Ruin Maniac Cave.
