next time, make the necrozma tribe an actual choice

CodeHelmet July 31st, 2018 6:05 PM

Some things I noticed were that those hosting events were typically too busy to participate in events they were not hosting. This meant that their participation was basically meaningless, if not a detriment if the event happened to be team based where participants had to be active in order for your side to seem cohesive/competent(ex: Fire Type Emblem Arena).

I’m not sure how long the sign up period was prior to the GT but perhaps consider extending it to spur more participation and holding the GT over the period of a month so as to give people far more opportunities to participate(seemed a bit short being roughly 10 days long. Noticed a lot of people joining in during the GT’s waning hours/days, hence missing out on a lot).

Can’t really think of anything else at this moment in time.

why do i feel like this is going to be a common theme :P

I've sometimes noticed the lack of updates in some games...maybe some people should only host one or two games at a time. For instance, the Frogger leaderboard in the Arcade thread has had a new leader for probably a few days now, but it was never updated.

I also never got to play much of Mario Kart, even though I wanted to. :frown:

that was totally my fault, I got busy with work and didn't have much time </3
definitely noted though

The GT was too short. Yes, it was too short. The Mafia mayhem got cancelled bcz the GT was on the verge of end. So, next time please extend the time.

So much this.

Arcade event has become too repetitive, it had the same old classic games (Asteroids, Frogger, Tetris and Donkey Kong) that have been used so many times in this event that it's boring. Try to find some new games, e.g. some kind of pinball game would be fun. What's more important, don't use flash games anymore because in 2019, Flash will be disabled by default in Firefox (note that you'll need an ESR version if you want to continue using flash through the final end-of-life at the end of 2020) and Chrome.

Apologies about that. 3/4 games did make it and that last game of yours also would have if it wasn't for me having technical difficulties.

Certainly the GT felt short. Fun but short. Once again the "sorting hats" is a boon and adds a welcome spice to one's participation in conversation with others, even if I don't really feel like being a Koko fits me :p

Though for me the feeling of "shortness" comes mostly due to the perception that it "barely" gets to contain two weekends (kinda sorta "starts on a Sunday, ends on a Saturday"), thus the times you can come home to participate while you are not already tired from the day is not only very limited, but also confined to the beginning and end of the event. Now, the structure of some events such as the VGM quiz helped alleviate that and also provided a good bit of interest, since we were basically getting the news that, in the least, there was some good new music to listento every day.

As one of the only two entrants to the Small Writing Contest, I feel a bit dismayed due to the low participation. Not that it's bad, I know better than anyone that even writers themselves have trouble forcing themselves to be up to creative stuff; but combined with the below it was more noticeable. I also felt the contest itself (and to a lesser degree the VG Trivia contest too) was not much advertised, which might have been a factor. For example the dedicated Fanfiction & Writing section, or the Creative Section as a whole, had no notable indicator or mention of it. As for other events I'm not sure if the VGM quiz was much advertised or not, but as a Koko I felt there was a notorious degree of mis, or lack of, communication into it that resulted in us getting zero points the first day despite having matched a good number of answers.

In terms of the GT itself I could see some benefit in stretching it to last 14-15 days if it was possible. I'm thinking a longer event is not really feasible unless the event hosters get a lot more support.

Of course I'm thankful to the organizers for managing to hold once again this yearly and characteristic PC event, and I feel overall a good job was done.

Finally, I support the addition of Necrozma Tribe as well.

Foxrally August 1st, 2018 11:53 AM

the goddamn VGM quizzes were too hard

But for real, if you ask me, I loved most of the events, but I would like Cards Against Humanity to be changed next year. The version I had the chance to play on unfortunately sacrificed comedy and jokes for being on-theme, which made the game fairly dull at times (and the cards often made no sense in the sentence). I'm okay with keeping it fairly PG, but next time I thinking sticking to an established deck and adding a few on-theme cards would be better.

I think the biggest issue with the short length of the GT is that certain events need time to be successful. The D&D event looked like a huge blast and although we did get some sessions in I feel like with a larger window of time more people would've been able to play. Similar thing with the mafia event, the short time forces a sort of game where day 1 decides who wins, which is pretty tough for the town.

Another thing I noticed was event overlap, I remember seeing people get hype over mario kart but be unable to play because other events were also going on at the same time.

I really liked the VGM event, huge kudos to Spirit Shackle for running it so well.

Overall, this GT was a lot of fun, thanks to everyone who hosted an event :)

(sigh) I didn't have as much fun as I would have liked. First, there should have been more ways to earn big points for those poor unfortunate souls who can't use friend codes, like me. It just seemed like I was getting tiny points for my team, and I would liked to have earned more because I felt sad that I couldn't do more...Second, maybe competitive battling would have been nice, too. Who's that pokemon drove me insane with all the pinging and brain numbing (although i DID get some of them right) Not to mention, the whole Hogwarts-like sorting was flawed because it seemed uneven in team distribution. It seemed like tribe Lele had too many people on it. Basically it should be more accessible in the future.

And also who won?

There was actually quite a few events with high payouts including two competitive battling ones. I think you just missed them.

Things like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should probably have had more than one host across multiple timezones so people who aren't awake when ddrox is available to host could actually participate - this isn't something that affected me personally, though.

B-scuse me? Then why was it labeled under the Ice cream format that was linked to the GT?

Didn't noticed that, I just checked the Events category and there wasn't Who's that pokemon topic.

The Foogle August 2nd, 2018 1:17 PM

Well the whole ice cream thing ended already but if you STILL don't believe me ask Hyzenthlay, she'll tell you

I actually really liked the whole concept of this year's GT, it had a very Alolan-feel to it and fitted closely with the theme of the seventh generation. Probably one of the greatest GT that I've actually experienced so far.

Didn't get around to participate in any of the events, due to other stuff that I had to do during that time. It seemed very interesting and would've loved to have joined in if I didn't have anything else to do at the time. The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe event certainly would've been an interesting one, would've joined it if I had the time to do so.

But I'm a little concerned about next year's GT though, seeing as online multiplayer in Nintendo Switch games will become a paid service by September this year, I'm actually worried about how much it will impact people's ability to participate in a future events that require a subscription service. Not everyone will be able to have access to Nintendo Switch Online (sometimes due to parents not allowing it), or even due to budget restraints (even if it's only $3.99 per month).

So perhaps next year's GT online multiplayer games could also be revolved around free-to-access online multiplayer services. I've heard there's a lot of activity going on in the Nintendo Switch Homebrew scene, so maybe there might be some hope in regards to a free-to-access online service alternative to online multiplayer in Nintendo Switch titles, and if that happens, then these could also be available as well. But then again, not everyone knows how to mod their Nintendo Switch hardware. But we'll have to see, I guess~

Anyways, I guess that wraps up everything that actually has to be talked about and all the positives about this year's GT. Hope this feedback helps in every way possible~

Lycanthropy August 4th, 2018 2:14 AM

While short, the GT was heaps of fun! I like to say that the organization did a great job on balancing the scores per event (certainly compared to last year). Maybe a small exception was the last event worth a sick 750 points, making the regular events relatively insignificant worth only a third of the points. Though I can't complain about 750 bonus points to Lele.

Mental note to self though: Don't try to host three things when you also want to participate in other events, it doesn't work.

Thank y'all for such a fun Get Together. Thank y'all for the Lele win. Told you guys we'd win on Day 4 but nobody took me seriously. Smh!! No feedback except teams rule and I'd love to share a team with 5Q next year!

Midnight Umbreon August 4th, 2018 6:15 AM

It was fun. Thanks y'all

At least you guys are celebrating... my team came third, which is a notable downward fall from last year when I finished on the second-best team. That's now two GT's in a row that your team has won!

Don't feel so bad. Next year, knowing my luck, I'll be in last place :)
