Welcome to The Manor, Children of the Dark Here, members of the Pokecommunity can gather to discuss the paranormal, supernatural and just horror in general from Cryptid Sightings (Bigfoot, Mothman, etc.) to where the scariest haunts are. This club is open for those who want to dip their toes in the dark pool to those who have been hardend by the strange things they have seen. If you want to share an experience or just want to get spooked, you have come to the right place. But first, there are some commandments that one must follow. I. Thou Shalt follow already established rules (Nuff said) II. Thou Shalt be helpful to other members (Help a member if they ask about something) III. Thou Shalt Not act in a disrepectful manner IV. Thou shalt Not post gruesome images (keep your gore to yourself) V. Thou Shalt Not speak falsehoods about supernatural/paranormal activity VI. Thou Shalt enjoy thyselves. Hello does this also double as a horror genre club? Anyways I too have had some experiences (although questionable) with the paranormal.

I gotta say the horrorgenre is a lot better than what people think.

Thinking about what to do for Halloween. Any ideas?

Watch a bunch of horror films.
|
I'd like to hear people's opinion on found footage films. Some are really good horror like REC and then there's the Paranormal activity series which are tolerable at best.

We could like assign a horror movie to watch each day in October until Halloween and post our thoughts on it here.
|
I'd like to join! I'm not much into the paranormal myself but I am a HUGE horror movie buff. Super excited about Blumhouse's Halloween. n_n
|
Horror is probably the genre that I watch the most. My top favorite horror film is probably The Thing. The dread that comes from not knowing who's infected is effective. The practical effects are gruesome. Great acting. Great monster. Very rewatchable for me.
|
I have such a weak spot for hokey, silly, obtusely grotesque, horror classics.
Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Child's Play, Scream, Halloween... I mean, I can go on forever. You all know what I'm talking about. :) I have a huge passion for the makeup and practical effects used in creating believable (and sometimes very uncanny) horror movies. The work that goes into transforming actors and filming the scenes is so fascinating to me. One of the many jobs I have on my bucket list is to create my own movie monster. |

I think for October I will watch a horror movie I haven't seen before every day and post my thoughts on it here. Hopefully I will find the time to do so.
|
Thinking for National Ghost Hunting Day (Sept. 29), I might try to run some apps in my house and post the results.

Question for New Members
What is the creepiest thing you had experienced on the job, supernatural or otherwise? For me, it started on a summer day at a local boathouse. Things were slow and the boss and another girl I worked with just left, so it was just me and another coworker who I will refer to as Dani. Me and Dani were behind a desk where the calculator for bank stuff was when the landline rang. I had answered with the usual greeting I had, but to no reply other than silence on the other end. After I asked if who or whatever was on the other end was still there, I hung up after ten seconds of silence. Same thing happened five mintutes later. I have no idea if a person had dialed by accident or what. |
Quote:
As for your mysterious phone call, I get that on my own phone a lot. It's most likely a silent call. Could be phone fraud as well. Luckily it happened on the landline and not your phone for you. I'm worried about people potentially stealing my personal info, that's way scarier than a ghost call. |
Quote:
To answer the question you posed, it is more of an experimental thing. I have been interested in the supernatural since I was a teenager. Likewise, I have had several bizarre experiences in my home such as what I think was sleep paralysis along with other strange things such as the one night I woke up at five in the morning to screaming despite everyone sleeping along with a strange photograph that I can upload later. On the same point as experimenting, I thought that it might be a way to celebrate the day from home (the nearest satellite is in West Virginia). |

So late at night we had actually passed through the road very anticlimactically the first time. Nothing happened. But we had to go back through to head back home so we turned around and started driving. While we were driving a car turned in behind us and started speeding up really close, then slowing down really far back. This happened a few times before they dropped back and started speeding at us at a much, much quicker pace. Dude had to have been going 80mph. So we cut the lights and make a sharp turn, only for the car behind us to completely vanish. Weird part is there was no way the car could have kept driving forward. Up ahead there was a big concrete slab that separates the road from a lake. There is absolutely no way that car could have stopped in time considering the speed they were going. Plus the sound of a car hitting concrete at 80mph - we would have heard it and seen it. It was literally right behind us. But yeah, never saw anything. So logically i know it was probably some douche who knows the Clinton Road lore, knew that the only people out there that late at night would be to see spooky stuff, and deliberately messed with of for laughs. And my mind just morphed it into something much more frightening. I've been back to the road many times since at all times during the day and night without anything weird or bizarre happening. Car must have had some damn good breaks, haha. |
Creepy thing that happened to me was thinking someone was home but it turns out they weren't. Sends chills down my spine because I swear somebody was there.

Two new blockbuster horror films are all the rage it seems. The Nun and Halloween remake. Both have good reviews. I'm surprised with the remake though usually classic remakes get messed up except for soft reboots like Evil Dead. I want to see The Nun though. It seems like horror movie blockbusters are more popular than I imagined. No one really cares about the not big name horror flicks though unfortunately.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone watch the Haunted Live broadcast last night? I only caught the last portion of it do to the fact I was out with family.

Just got news that my college's Gaming club (which I am part of), Anime Club and Writer's Guild is having a Horror Movie party on Halloween. Any snack ideas?

By chance could I join this? I like spooky stuff. I know a lot about the Haunted Mansion at Disney if that counts, and my house has some "Ghost Lights".
|

I'll share my Ghost Light story now.
So, my family moved to this house three years ago, and a ton of issues arose. One was a flickering light about a year after we settled in. The strange thing is that the lightbulb was replaced in this light, which was in a hallway, and it still flickered. Around this year, that light burned out for good and a new light in one of the bathrooms started flickering. Again, the lights were replaced to no avail. |
Spooky!
I've had similar occurrences. And while I REFUSE to believe it's paranormal in nature - my mom did pass away when I was a teenager. In the deep, far back, repressed part of my mind I can't help but to think it's her responsible for all the little anomalies. Also did you know that the Haunted Mansion in Disney Land/World is where most people spread their loved one's cremated ashes? >_> Weird, right? |
Similar things happen to me in middle school (secondary school). Back in seventh grade (year 7), a friend of mine had told me that a pair of glowing eyes which he had named "Mr. Guy" (we were twelve-thirteen years old) in the projector room along with a girl in a red dress in which he had never elaborated on. I, in the back of my head questioned his legitimacy (I had only known him for a couple of months up to this point) until I had a calculator slide itself off the desk in English Class and a girl's giggle while doing standardized testing. Likewise, I had some crazy things happen during my tenure in the drama club in which a prop would be pushed off a ladder (no one was hurt) or a sheet prop sliding off a rack when it was still not too long ago. Likewise, I had seen the glowing eyes once during a study hall. I had never had anything else like that after eighth grade (Year 8).
|
I would like to be a member. I like horror, more so suspense, atmosphere, haunted houses. I have a weakness for the 1960s classic television series the Twilight Zone , and use to watch reruns on the sygy channel with my parents when I was a wee thing.
Last year I was vacationing down south in Charleston and went with family on a tour of the citiy's famous cemetaries at night and was told ghost stories by the guide. |
Let me list off some facts on Haunted Mansion.

When I was little like 6 I went on another family vacation down south. I was with my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, my grandma, and we visited a colonial plantation, ate a picnic there and studied the architecture. My uncle told me a ghost story of a child that died in the mansion, a little girl was trapped when the house caught on fire during a slave rebellion. The girl's ghost he said still roamed Bonnie Doone Plantation, and you could see her sometimes in the mirrors and windows. As a kid convinced myself that I had seen the ghost pass by one of the windows as I stared from faraway at the house from the gardens on the estate. I cried out, "look there she is!! She even wears her hair in two pigtails just like me!" |

Interesting story you have there. Ghost tours aren't really a thing where I live except for Halloween since there was only one company that ran online. My uncle lives about twenty five minutes from Gettysburg, where I got this keeper on a tour five years ago by a creek. Other than that, nothing else crazy happened. |
I was wondering if anyone here likes poke pasta or creepy pasta in general? Ever visited a youtube channel like Super Nerd Daniel or Creeps McPasta? There are some good tales about ghost Pokemon, curses, death and the supernatural. I have had to lay off of the scary stories awhile because I was beginning to have nightmares, but it has been some time since and I'm getting ready for a second helping. Halloween is coming after all.
Would content like this be appropriate to share here at The Manor? I thought I should ask first :) |

I'm a coaster boy. Most of my fear experiences have been on coasters. However, there's a few moments I'd like to mention.
During the time in Nightmare Before Christmas where the scary toys are released scared me for the first time. I don't know why, but it all looked so creepy. The Drop-Out slides at Carowinds always scare me every summer when I go to their water park. Partially the heights and partially that the floor falls away beneath you... Speaking of coasters, I found this video of a Planet Coaster ride. |

I really do think it was influential for amateur horror media and brought the Operator to higher public awareness which (in hindsight, might not have been such a great thing...) at the time was awesome. Plus we'd never really seen a good found footage series blow up that much since The Blair Witch ten years earlier! I can't say I like what it and its legacy became, but I can't deny that it was a fun ride back in the day. It was also filmed practically in my backyard, haha. |
First off, I would like to say that I hope that everyone had a great Halloween yesterday. I know I did with enough candy to hold me off until Thanksgiving and good times with friends. Secondly, I have a new question,
Your best friend has never seen a horror film, what do you show them first? For me, it would have to be The Others. Great buildup, atmosphere and not to spoil it, a twist that definitely caught me off guard when I first watched it. |
My first pick would be the Silence of the Lambs, hands down.
|
The Thing
|
To answer the topic question I would choose something classic. I would avoid explicit material and go for good storytelling, something that is suspenseful and has mystery. I think if you have that you will always have a good horror film that most people can relate to the situation of. Something like Rear Window or Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
While here I wanted to ask if anyone has seen the 2012 movie Woman in Black? I'd be interested in having a brief discussion about this movie. Since this is the Manor it seemed fitting to bring up a nice haunted house film. I saw it in theaters when it was released, and liked it enough to purchase a download of it from Amazon to watch again once it was available. Its been years since I have seen it, but I got to enjoy my copy again during Halloween. After watching it a third time I had some questions about the ending that I wanted to speak with someone else about. Caution, this includes extreme spoilers if you haven't seen it. Turn back while you can! https://i.postimg.cc/brgcGkvZ/Woman-in-black-theaterorplay.jpg Spoiler:

Has anyone ever walked alone at night? It's the creepiest feeling, paranormal or not. Realistically you can get mugged, kidnapped or even worse, all veiled in darkness and no one will know... Some boy once ran to me in a hoodie, and I almost got a heart attack but it turns out he just wanted me to take a picture of him and his friends by the stadium. Be careful at night guys.

Now my last apartment was in a major business area with restaurants, department stores, doctor's offices, banks, tailors, bakeries, book stores etc. The grocery store was essentially in my front yard, literally just across the street. When I stepped out of the doors of the building all I had to do was cross the street, and there I stood in the shopping center lot. So occasionally in the middle of the night I would pick up a snack like ice cream, and walk right back home. It seemed unnecessary to drive when I was that close. It would just take 2 minutes. It wasn't scary to me. Like I said, for me It can be calming to walk alone night, its quiet, and introspective and helps me clear my head, especially if it is a warm summer night. I also like walks in light spring rain at night. I happen to have dogs too, and when nature calls sometimes you have got to walk them, even at night. Its not exactly the same, after all your dog provides you with protection and company. But I still get the similar sense of peace walking with them at night. |

First off, Merry Christmas Eve and Christmas Day if I don't post tomorrow. Next, new question for members.
Is The Nightmare Before Christmas a Christmas special, Halloween Special, or both? Aesthetic would dictate a Halloween Special, but plot would dictate a Christmas Special similar to the Grinch. I guess it would be in the same camp as Die Hard 2 in which it's not a Christmas special but it technically is also. |
Both I suppose. Gives a great excuse for fans to rewatch it again a month after October.
Also has anyone seen any good horror movies lately? |
That's a really good question, actually. I'd classify it as a "holiday special" rather than attribute it to one or the other. Still, like Hypno said, good excuse to watch it twice during the year! ;)
I actually just finished watching The Gallows and Get Out again. Get Out is so damn good. I'm super hyped for Us. That movie looks really, really badass. |

Happy (Late) Valentine's Day
I meant to post this yesterday, but I was caught up with classes and had no time. Anyhow, apologies aside, I give you the first challenge of this group. Woman in White Challenge Your goal, if you choose to accept it, is to create your own version of the Woman in White, a classic icon of folklore and ghost stories that usually is associated with tragedy, lost love and betrayal. There is no single appearance of the Woman in White that defines them all besides wearing white a color that is aligned with purity in the West and death in the East. There is not a right or wrong way to create your version, except that your character must wear white. There is no winners or losers to this, as I mention before, there are many different versions of the Woman in White. Without further ado, here is my example to kick things off. Attachment 87390 Credit: RinmaruGames and Rinmaru Name: Evelynne Richmond Alias: The Tearful Angel Age: 131 (Died at age 16 in 1903) Personality: Solitary, mournful, usually avoids confrontation or the living Backstory: Evelynne was born into a Middle-Class family that did well with what they had, even when it wasn't the best they had. One day, Evelynne had found love in a young factory worker who lived in a nearby town. Evelynne's parents had not approved of her lover, but Evelynne's love for him was so strong that she ran away from home to live with him. As a usual routine, when Evelynne's lover went out to work, she would be sure to have fresh clothes that he could change into when he got home, even on the day he never came home. After Evelynne had noticed that her lover had stayed out longer than usual, she had answered a knock at the door on to find a friend of her lover saying that he had died in an accident. After she had heard the news, she had rarely left the house, only wearing white. After days of weeping in front of her vanity, she had died of a broken heart. Afterwards, her mother had painted the portrait of her that you see here, only to be admitted to an asylum not too long after due to the fact that she couldn't deal with her daughter's constant weeping. People who have come close to the house of Evelynn's lover or have lived in it had heard weeping along with mournful singing, which she had got her alias as the Tearful Angel due to her appearance and beautiful voice that entrances men who never leave the home. Last Sighting: Last spotted around February 7, 2019 which suspiciously correlates with the disappearance of Jude Walsh, a student at a local high school. |
So now that everyone's buzzing with speculation about the upcoming titles Pokémon Sword and Shield, I thought that we could have some fun with speculation.
What spooky Pokémon and/or locations do you think will be in the game? If we're going by what's in the reveal trailer, I would say that the spooky location could be the forest, due to the colors used for it. On the other hand, it could be the dark purple mansion shown off several times if we are going for the UK inspiration. (it would be a nice thing to see a Ghost-type evolution). |
I think, since the setting is distinctly European, it would be a shame to not include a proper, spooky graveyard! Another hope here is that they finally include a Ghost type Eevee. Fingers crossed!

Apologies for not being as active as I should (school and whatnot), but I am seeking advice. I'm planning to DM a D&D Homebrew campaign for my dad's birthday in October, and looking for ideas for a horror themed D&D campaign. Any ideas?
|
I know I just got here, but I did a murder mystery party for my birthday last year. It was a blast and I'm sure you could add so much more to it than I did with a D&D campaign! :)
Also I'm a bit intimidated. Being as introverted as I am, having to talk to people takes a lot, so I'll keep it brief: I love horror. It's most of my life. I express my love through my writing and my art. While not as big a horror movie fan as some, I do love the classics and have been known to give new ones a shot from time to time (The Conjuring was awesome). I also used to be obsessed with the paranormal side of YouTube not long ago. And I am definitely obsessed with Lucas Baker from Resident Evil 7 (he's my husband) and Souichi Tsuji (my side-Tom, Dick, and Harry). I can't guarantee any sort of consistent membership, but when I'm feeling social, who knows. I'm always willing to chat horror in that case. :) |

Sounds good! So, anyone else here like Junji Itou? :3
|
Don't think I heard about it. Might check it out.
|
Ah, I love Junji Ito’s work! Easily one of the best horror manga writers out there.
|
Yes he is :3 I've read so much of his stuff and while some of it doesn't really work, most of it is unforgettably insane and depraved. Souichi's stories are my faves x3 Followed closely by Uzumaki if only because it's what introduced me to Itou in the first place. The imagery in that story is disturbingly beautiful. I'd recommend him, obviously! <3

Since I've been gone for a long time, an update is due. For vacation, I had stayed in a Condo in Wildwood for five days with an overnight in Gettysburg, Nothing much happened over there, except leaving a penny on a little marker hidden somewhere around Round Top and ended up communicating with a guy who really didn't like me (I didn't get hurt, thank Helix). I headed over to Sach's Bridge where I had began communication again (I used Spirit Story Box both times). While I didn't get much this time around, I managed to get in touch with a guy who, for one reason or another, wanted to get off the bridge but couldn't (possibly related note, but it had appeared that someone, a few days prior to my arrival, had made a salt circle that most likely wasn't cleaned up due to the storms and tornado watch/warning for the state). Nothing else much happened, aside from finding six business cards from a paranormal group in the Bible in the room I was staying in. Just want to update you on things that had happened since I last posted.
|
Welcome back! I'm sorry your vacation didn't yield much in the way of evidence, but it sounds like you had a good time nonetheless! :)

Anyone else looking forward to The Invisible Man in 2020? With Universal's history of mucking up classic horror monsters I'm a little on the fence about it, but I still want to see justice done to the original.
Also who's hyped for Antlers???? The trailer looks seriously awesome. The monster design seems really unique and on point. I'm def excited for this one! :) |
Antlers?
Just heard of it now. If Guillermo Del Toro has something to do with it then that's worth taking a chance on! I like the way the drawings look in the pictures the child makes in the trailer. |
Out of curiosity, what do you think about the Grudge remake?
Haven't seen it yet, but I might give it a chance since the people behind Don't Breathe had worked on it. |
I didn't know there was going to be a remake of the Grudge. Sure, I'd check that out. The Grudge was after all remake of Ju-On.
I thought Don't Breathe was really intense, so I'd be interested in seeing something else from the makers of that. |
I really want to see Gretel and Hansel. The Brothers Grimm story Hansel and Gretel has always been my all-time favorite fairy tale, mixing the magical and whimsical with terror, and this 2020 film sure looks spooky. I love Alice Krige who is playing the witch. I first saw this actress as the bewitching Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact. I didn't even recognize her here under all that makeup to transform into the witch. She is such a strong actress.

So, I'm back after a loooooong hiatus. This whole situation with the virus and whatnot has got me thinking about the foreseeable future of horror. As many of us know, movie theaters had closed with many films being transferred to home releases and some films being screened at drive in theaters (if anyone remembers those). Likewise, many haunted attractions are considering what changes can be made for the 2020 season.
What do you think will be the outlook for horror and spooky stuff in general will be for the foreseeable future? I think that there is a high chance that drive-ins could make a comeback as they are easier to practice social distancing as oppose to a standard movie theater. As for haunts, I can see haunts possibly limiting group sizes and adjusting scares to keep the virus from spreading. |
