Which starting pokemon to choose?

Choose mudkip its the best for all the gym leaders.

Squeegee Beckenheim June 12th, 2005 2:44 AM

Torchic it turns out to be the best in the long run.

Rocket Superior Chase June 12th, 2005 3:30 AM

I agree, although I had to rely on the rest of my team in most places, Torchic does end up being the strogest of all, he also teaches you to make balanced teams because he isn't exactly the best to use in the first half of the game =D

Eon-Rider June 12th, 2005 3:34 AM

There is already a thread like this. Torchic coz when it is a Blaziken it is really powerful.

Phoenix Riley June 12th, 2005 3:36 AM

Kennys right but isnt it dead?

Anyhoo i like em all Torchic good cos of its duel type but Treeco does a lots of gyms well except flannery thank god for peliper XD

Squeegee Beckenheim June 12th, 2005 3:49 AM

Ot has been dead, but getting back on topic. I will agree the first half of the game is a great deal better with a Mudkip. Mudkip is stable the whole game through and may help you much more!

Sanctuary June 12th, 2005 4:33 AM

Torchic, once it evolves it can be super strong! Same with Mudkip although for some reason I think Mudkip is hard to train.... :(

Skarmorylugia June 12th, 2005 4:42 AM

Torchic, because when it evolves into Combusken it becomes not only fire-type, but it also becomes fighting-type, which will help you in battling, especially the normal-type Pokemon. But also, there are some risks to evolving it. For one thing, it becomes weak to bird Pokemon, because fighting type is weak against flying type. And the fighting moves won't help much when you're fighting a ghost Pokemon, because they're along the same lines as normal moves.
But other than that, Torchic is a good starter Pokemon to have. Why do I know this? I started with a Torchic! :)

manectric_chief June 12th, 2005 4:57 AM

I'd pick torchic, it's worth it when it evolves to Blaziken

Squarewalker June 12th, 2005 5:11 AM

Treecko isn't a very good choice cause it can't help you at the 3rd and 4th gyms and Sceptile won't have such good stats (except for speed =p).
Torchic is a good choice but it will be a bit hard to train I guess, though it worths it because Blaziken is sure powerful.
I think that Mudkip is the best choice. It is easy to train. It will help you in most gyms and the best is that it learns good moves and evolves into Swampert which has a very high attack stat :) .

mew_master June 12th, 2005 5:13 AM

mudkip. it's good against the first, third (due to ground), and fourth. it's bad to no gym.

torchic is good against the first (due to fighting) and fifth due to fighting, however it's bad to the sixth, seventh, and eighth. mudkip is a lot better.

Bashaamo June 12th, 2005 6:53 AM

You know what, we have different opinions. I chose torchic because I like fire types. We don't necessarily have to pick a pokemon that is good against all gyms. So I don't really care. I think torchic is good, one of the reasons is because it evolves into Combusken, and then Blaziken.

Gyardosamped June 12th, 2005 10:24 AM

I like mudkip better of them all becuase its 2 types of pokemon gorund type and water type!

LegendaryPokemonTamer June 12th, 2005 10:54 AM

I like Mudkip because it protects itself from Electric types by being ground on the 2nd stage and 3rd stage and it only has one weakness

deoxys and celebi master June 12th, 2005 4:18 PM

I got all three starters and I would say they are all even

Salaz June 12th, 2005 4:19 PM

i think the best starter is treecko he is well balanced

Happy Dude June 12th, 2005 4:59 PM

Yep,i'm saying Treecko even though i have all 3.

He is good against e4.

Dark Penguin June 12th, 2005 8:34 PM

well here's how it breaks down by gyms:
Treecko - easiest against early gym leaders
Mudkip - easiest against middle gym leaders
Torchic - easiest against last gym leaders (excluding Wallace XD )

it doesn't matter as much, though, because they didn't make your rival hard enough. So don't base it on your rival.

kohei June 12th, 2005 10:58 PM

Treeko. Pretty much useless especially against non-ingame play but still speedy so can be useful.

brotlov June 13th, 2005 3:52 PM

OK thanks for that. Now after the pole has closed i can start a new game with the pokemon that wins.

Innocence June 13th, 2005 4:01 PM

October the 10th is a long way away.

Kijin June 13th, 2005 6:24 PM

I prefer Treeko- his speed and special are all well above average when evolved.
Torchic/Blaziken gets the best sweeper move variety.
Swampert is one of the better/best walls in the game.

Overall, all of the starters are really good in some respect, IMO.

torchic is horrible against the last three gym leaders...flying, psychic, water? in fact, besides ground, those are all of it's weaknesses. and ground gets covered by your rival's swampert anyway...but you're right the rival sucks in this game.

GoldenHouou June 17th, 2005 10:49 AM

Hm I like fire types, but I think Treecko is the best.

Rayquaza 157 June 17th, 2005 2:13 PM

yes, torchic is one of best starter Poke'mon to start any Poke'mon game. :D
