What social standard are you basing this off, and/or is this the bar you have set for yourself?

Hi CrimsonMajestic! :)

For the record I'm turning 28 in a month.

It's more of a perceived immaturity that I still base Pokemon around which, as an adult, I expect myself to be detached from. But that's honestly just silly thinking! I enjoy Pokemon and will continue to enjoy it regardless of my age. I just can't help but to poke fun at myself for holding on so tightly to a childhood franchise.

CrimsonMajestic August 30th, 2018 4:54 PM

While we're talking records, I am turning 31 late September, and enjoy Pokemon as much I can tolerate.

And for those who would make the claim that I am immature for liking a game that is marketed toward kids but is for all ages need to examine their own tastes relative to those who impose certain social standards (whether from external forces and/or internal), and also examine how much they're enjoying life. /endminirant

That said, I will beat this drum one more time, and ask whether you have individuals and/or groups that tease you for enjoyment toward Pokemon?

Sothis August 30th, 2018 4:59 PM

Fellow 1990 baby!
And I often feel that way too, actually. I tend to think I'm immature because of my interests?

I do, but the majority is playful and seldom actually critical. I agree that anyone who thinks themselves better for not liking "kids" entertainment should have a good look at themselves.

My father in particular scoffs at my Pokemon-ing but it's very good natured and mostly a commentary on how I can like the same thing for such a long time. He also teases me for collecting the cards but I tease him back for collecting trinkets too - so it's all fair. :) Again, I just have this instinct that says "to be a productive member of society you must abandon all things that represent childhood". Which is obviously not true!

Jo is short for Jolynn.

Yes I have noticed you tend to be persistent! In a good way though.

Looks complicated, but fun! I'll definitely read more about it. I can see myself getting into something like that!

Battle#2 is about to start. Lycan has two more people to place before he carries out Round 1 moves. If you hurry up and sign up, pick a starting spot and think of a Round 1 move, you too can join in. There's lots of Poison Types on this map so Fairy Types would be at a disadvantage. There are two Dragon Types though, including the boss so yeah lol. There are sure to be ambushes and other mini-bosses spawning later on in the battle but if you intend to play, you'll have to join in as a non-legendary/non-mythical NFE. Hence if you want to be Sylveon, you'd have to be Eevee(although I dk how to evolve into Sylveon in PMD). You can be w/e Pokemon you want though :)

Oh and I almost forgot, when you do sign-up, be sure to mention its ability(non-HA only), Gender(if applicable), nickname(optional), and what move-set you want to give it(pick four moves that it'd know by level 20. Example for my Vulpix: Ember, Will-o-Wisp, Fire Spin and Payback.

Yes! I am very excited! My fiance proposed to me on Valentine's day of this year. It was something we both knew and understood we were going to do, but hadn't made the step to actually make it official. The proposal itself wasn't some huge event, but it was meaningful and beautiful in its own way. I'm very happy with my life and my partner and I couldn't ask for anyone better!

#1) My dad? No, haha, he has never played Pokemon. But he did make an effort to be interested in it when I was a child. He tried his best lol.

#2) Seems reasonable. Unfortunate but reasonable.

#3) Yes, I have used that in the past. However, I prefer to vape because it's a non-combustible way to intake nicotine (meaning it's not damaging your throat as much), and you can control how much nicotine you use. Currently, I vape 0mg of nicotine. It's just an oral fixation for me. Btw I worked at a vape shop and manufactured my own e-juice so I actually do know what I'm talking about. Vaping is a smoking replacement device, not a hobby like people tend to treat it.

4#) one foot in the grave, the other on a banana peel amirite?

Good god, if I could do that, I would be soooo happy lol. But I'll probably have a nice day out with people. My mother-in-law is a great baker and, as I mentioned in an above post, my dad supports my Pokemon card habit so, who knows? ;)

The moment they were announced! I've always liked fae and folklore like that. Their mischievousness and playfulness. The connection with nature and magic. It's something I've always felt drawn to and intrigued by, since there's such a unique duality to them. I don't necessarily relate to the spirituality of fairies, but I love what their contemporaries represent. :)

I have been on other pokemon forums! But I'm not active at all, haha. PC was the first forum I ever joined!

This is a tough question for me. I don't believe I'm actually a positive person offline. I'm anxious and nihilistic and tend to catastrophize things. I'm also a little catty! I only project the positivity and light hearted naivity I wish I had onto PC and my online persona. Is that identity too positive? Probably. But I enjoy being online in a medium in which I can respond to things with time and thoughtfulness so my immediate, innate cynacism doesn't show through. I like pretending to be a bubbly, optimistic person. I like being happy and making other people happy. I'm afraid that is not something I can do with ease offline.

Body modifications! Can be temporary things like hair dying or more permanent things like piercings or tattoos. They can get pretty extreme like dermal implants and tongue forking. I've got a few!

Favorite drink is probably apple juice! I like strawberry milk too.

Yup! Right now it's Monster Hunter. But Animal Crossing is also a close favorite. So is Pokemon X/Y!

Well I think you said it perfectly. We are the yin and yang. The day and the night. The everything and the nothing. We simply could not exist without one another. <33

Never thought I'd get asked a question like this, haha. Definitely nothing along these lines have been asked yet!

Personally, I would love to receive 1k every month guaranteed. (Actually I kind of do considering I rent out property but that certainly isn't "free money"). :p

But I don't really think it's feasible for the US.

I've always been interested in art! It's how I've always expressed myself non-verbally, so it's just been second nature to me.

PINK

Good question! The memer in my says grab my cricket bat. But realistically I would probably be one of the quicker ones to die, lol. I'm one of those "lay down and be resigned to my fate" types. Not a problem. I posted it in my OP because I'm comfortable with talking about it. I've been sober for many years now and have made peace with the things in my past. I'm glad people like you are willing to open a dialog about it even though it's uncomfortable.

I originally got into opiates as a rather benign escalation of doing progressively harder drugs as a teenager. It started as youthful indiscretion, I'd picked up smoking a bit of weed, drinking, you're normal stuff. But, the pills were readily available to me and I have a highly addictive personality. Combine that with a severe lack of self esteem, newly divorced parents, penchant for escapism, and some crazy daddy issues, and it quickly progressed into my first recreational pill popping! I had a 300mg oxy habit for a long time. I also live dangerously close to one of the busiest and most active drug trafficking ports in America, so the supply was easy. Anyway, after some time I couldn't afford the pills anymore and jumped ship to heroin. it was that simple. Got arrested. Life was destroyed. And I made the choice to get sober and do something with my life.

As for advice I could give? Well, there's three places you end up when you're using. In a hospital, in jail, or in a body bag. These three things are unconditional, universal, and absolute. Sadly though, it's something already well known by anyone already taking them. Through experience I can say that this simple post here won't stop anyone from doing a damn thing. Taking drugs is a choice, but becoming addicted is not. Addiction is a symptom of a much grander, more nuanced problem that I cannot begin to fathom in another person. Who am I to try to sway anyone when I don't know their story? People are extremely complex. And, while I had my reasons for making the choices I did, it's not my place to determine what other people do. All I can do is share my experience and be present for anyone who does want help.

Though I guess I can give y'all practical tips like opiates make you itch like CRAZY which is something they don't tell you during the whole "heroin kills" essay. So yeah.

CodeHelmet September 7th, 2018 7:22 AM

When you couldnt afford the pills, did you contemplate doing violent crime/robbery to feed your addiction(same for Heroin)? I dont normally bring up personal issues, notably my own, but seeing as youve been up front about something that Id deem off limits until much later in my life, I figure Ill share something that just happened to me last night.

I walked over to a local pizza chain(Little Caesars, probably heard of it?) and I was wearing a Hawaii shirt my brother got me during his trip there for his Honeymoon. Anyways, as Im walking up to the door, a heavy set Indian guy comes up and sucker punches me thinking my shirt was military. Repeatedly battered me until he ran off. I call the cops and find out this guy has a major screw loose and is a meth addict. Furthermore hes known by local authorities, hence hes got a record longer than Id tolerate as a citizen. Anyways, my question to you is at what point do you say enough is enough and a person with a Drug problem shouldnt see the light of day? Namely if you had committed crimes, how long would you throw yourself in jail and at what point would you revoke the right to be a free citizen?

Fairy September 7th, 2018 3:13 PM

Yes. I've done that and much worse and I've made amends to those I've hurt physically, financially, and emotionally. I don't want to go into much detail.. only because I really don't think it's appropriate for a Pokemon forum plus now we're talking about the other people who got caught in the crossfire of my addiction. It's not fair to them.

I don't think people really understand the gravity of what you as an addict are willing to do to get your next fix. There's this preconceived notion that junkies are only violent to get "high". I, and people like me, couldn't find that further from the truth. Well into my addiction I had stopped getting "high". I would wake up feeling so fucking awful that the moment I got a dose, I'd be at my new normal. Then I could go about life like usual, pretending I didn't have a problem. It was achieving that normal that drove me to do awful things. Not an ambition to escape.

Then you've had an encounter first hand with someone looking to avoid those same withdrawal symptoms. I'm sorry that happened to you.

That's an extremely complicated question because I can't tackle it without dissecting America's contemporary views on drug use and the philosophy of recovery. But, what I can say is that everyone else thought I was beyond redemption too. And here I am, paying taxes, working, getting married, and living as a productive human being. However, while I do believe certain sensitivities should be applied to those first-time offending addicts who want to recover in terms of available treatment, there are also points where your crimes deserve to be punished to the furthest extent of the law. Addiction is not an excuse for anything and it's paramount to recovery to learn to acknowledge those mistakes, own them, and be better. If that means that the crimes one has committed deserve life imprisonment decided by a judge, than so be it. But it is neither black and white nor for me to make a decision on.

Reasoning:

Grass: I just like Bulbasaur and honestly is my favorite Grass starter
Fire: I love Vulpix....
Water: I was going to choose Squirtle since its my favorite Water starter but Lapras won me over back during Orange Islands Arc. Also is a fitting Surf/Rider Pokemon.
Normal Type: Eevee is well... awesome.
Electric: Can anyone really beat Pikachu?
Psychic: Meowstic kind of won me over in X/Y.
Fighting: Hariyama is the definition of FIghting types in my book.
Rock: Kabutops was a bad-ass Rock Type from Generation 1 that gets lost in subsequent generations.
Ground: Being a pure ground type, Sandshrew is to this day my favorite. Underrated Pokemon too.
Flying: Pidgeot is one of the best Flying Types and I'm still waiting on Ash to visit his.
Bug: Butterfree was the first Bug Type I came to love and like with Pidgeot... waiting on it to return.
Poison: Not fond of Poison Types but Nidoqueen is one of my favorites.
Dark: Umbreon hands down. Design is sick and it can fight too.
Ghost: Gengar is what started it all and I haven't found another one to be better.
Ice: Did I mention I love Vulpix? Yeah... enough said.
Steel: Like with Poison, Steel types don't appeal to me but Steelix isn't that bad.
Dragon: One Like, One Hug for Turtonator
Fairy: Sylveon is hands down my favorite. Still salty that Ash hasn't caught a Fairy Type yet, much less an Eevee.

*Cough* You do this way back then when it was a thing? Keep in mind I did this before Sun and Moon and me knowing about Alolan Vulpix and its Evolution(which is part Fairy). I dont own the games so.... yeah lol. Even so... I might still give the edge to Sylveon if only because I prefer Vulpix more.

Like I said on the first page, I don't really think there's a "too old" for Pokemon, it's just that I have this preconceived notion that in order to be a functioning adult in society, I need to abandon all my "childish" preoccupations. Which of course applies to no one else except for me. But I still love Pokemon and expect I'm going to for some time!

I suppose my implied question wasn’t forthcoming so I’ll simply say it: How old are you? :tongue-poke: That’s why when you say your not too old for Pokemon, I was trying to see if I couldn’t subtly squeeze an age answer out of you. Guess you’re as cunning as a Sylveon.

Heh you’ll know my age soon enough but let’s say I’m older than you by enough to really define that Pokémon isn’t just for kids.

Some more questions because I can’t let a good thread die.

Favorite food?
Favorite dessert?
Favorite video game(including Pokémon)?
Why don’t you use your Sylveon images when responding in M&G? Come across as too strong or not appropriate for an introduction?
Cats, Dogs, both or neither?
Buy or Rent?
Which Monopoly do you pursue in the game of Monopoly?
Are you sorry when playing the game Sorry?
Ever play Twister? If not, would you?
What’s your suggestion for next year’s theme for the Get Together?

Urugamosu September 24th, 2018 12:16 AM

why do you have such a nice aesthetic tho? because I am living for this pink, sylveon pastelly flair you got going on.

LadyJirachu September 24th, 2018 12:22 AM

Whats your favorite type of flower? :3
How long would you pet a Pikachu for?
How long would you pet an Eevee for? ^_^
What kind of ice cream would you feed to Kirby?
Do you like to use nice scented air fresheners for your bedroom so its smells pretty? ;3

FlameChrome September 24th, 2018 2:42 AM

THANK YOU! I honestly just adore Sylveon and I try to base my visual appeal around it. Bright colors, pastels, nice things like that just make me happy. :)

Some people just have a Pokemon they love or feel represents them in some way. Sylveon is the one I feel like the most!

Not to be a thorn in the side but you skipped favorite video game(including Pokémon)? Your favorite game involve Pokémon or is it another franchise entirely? For me, it’s hard to say(since I have soooo many interests) but if I had to pick a game it’d be X-Wing. Old school flight sim that had great single player(since online multiplayer wasn’t a thing yet) and I’d purposely pick fights with Capital Ships since the most they could do to me was fire their Turbolasers. They didn’t add Concussion Missile launchers until Tie Fighter was released sometime later(along with different classes of ships as well). TLDR: Star Wars universe for the win.

Btw, if you want an idea for Get Together next year, how about it be based on four corresponding Pokémon types: Fairy, Dark, Psychic and Poison. Fairy beats Dark, Dark beats Psychic, Psychic beats Poison and Poison beats Fairy. Mascots for each team can be determined beforehand but seeing as you’ll likely leap and claim Team Fairy, it’s only a foregone conclusion what the mascot would be.... **cough Sylveon cough**. For the other teams, I’m thinking Umbreon, Mew and Poipole.

Oh shoot, sorry! I've got quite a few favorites so I'll try to keep the list small-ish.

Monster Hunter, Hollow Knight, Animal Crossing, Metal Gear Solid, Elder Scrolls / Fallout, Kirby, and of course Pokemon!

Also yes Star Wars ftw! I've not played anything but Knights of the Old Republic 2 (which was also fantastic btw) but I am a HUGE Star Wars fan. I'll have to post pics of all my lego models one of these days lmao.

X-Wing is OLD. The game itself came out 25 years ago or when you were 2-3 years old. See spoiler below for some gameplay video as you need a Joystick to play it. That’s the 93 version that ran on DOS and Mac’s back in the day. They re-released it with updated graphics

X-Wing 93
Spoiler:

X-Wing 95(ignore the commentary)
Spoiler:

I never played SWTOR but I keep getting told I should have. Like anything from Blizzard? Like Diablo(1-3), Starcraft(1-2) or Warcraft(1-3). We ignore WoW... lol.

Hmm one more question:

Walk, Bike or Drive?

Fairy September 26th, 2018 11:53 AM

I always liked Torchlight and Starcraft but only seldom played them. I had fun, but it didn't really hold my attention for long.

I walk if I'm able and drive if I can't. Walking is good for you! And I live fairly close (within a few miles) to a few locations so I don't mind it one bit. But in terms of going to work or school and stuff like that, I pretty much have to drive. I kinda basically live in the woods where everything is at least a ten mile drive. That would take me forever to walk lol. And we have almost zero public transport, which I'd gladly take if it, you know, existed. User Went can back me up on that, lol.

I've never been much for biking though. I don't know why! Even as a kid I never biked.

Thanks for the videos though! I'll look into it! n_n

Starcraft’s campaign was well done and it’s story wasn’t half bad(at least with Starcraft 1. It’s sequel had its moments though). I suspect that RTS isn’t your thing though but I find RTS to be better in multiplayer. Starcraft 2 added a new game mode in Co-Op where you take control of central Starcraft figures(like Raynor or Kerrigan) and battle the enemy AI with a partner(who also selects a commander). Commander you pick determines what faction, forces and abilities are at your disposal. If Starcraft doesn’t appease you, I’d understand(RTS isn’t for everyone) but at least admit that the following is awesome:

Fairy September 26th, 2018 1:15 PM

I like RTS games, just the same as I like FPS games. I just suck at them lol.

LMAO, practice makes perfect as they say. I used to be really bad at them too but playing, even against the AI, can improve your gameplay. Granted if you ever plan to do Ladder or competitive gameplay, it might take to learning a few of the basics(like learning unit hotkeys and how to bind structures and units to callgroups so they can be quickly selected by a push of a button). Starcraft 1 is honestly harder on newbs than Starcraft 2 is as the sequel had a lot of quality of life improvements, including sending your starting workers to automine(you have to do that in Starcraft 1).

Maybe you and I can do Starcraft some time if you have it :P

Oh and what do you think of my Get Together idea?

LadyJirachu September 28th, 2018 4:08 PM

Have you ate macarons before? :D What flavor did you like best?

Who was your favorite travel buddy of ash's?

Did you have a favorite stuffed toy as a kid? Or another favorite toy? What kind of toy was it? :)

CodeHelmet September 30th, 2018 4:41 PM

Which size are you? I’m none of the above or at worst the first one.

Hands October 9th, 2018 3:50 AM

Jo did you make these cool Sylvy response images?!

Honest October 21st, 2018 2:54 PM

Hi Jo! No questions from me, just wanted to say hello :)

CodeHelmet November 9th, 2018 9:10 PM

Am not letting you off the hook from AMA's :P Before I ask a question, please chime in on what path Lutin is to take in FTE(yes I'm thorough). Now, do you consider Sylveon to be a Christmas Pokemon?

CodeHelmet January 15th, 2019 1:53 PM

I think waiting over two months for a reply is long enough no? I come with a new question: What about Star Wars appeals to you and what do you look forward to within the Franchise? Do you like the direction Disney is going in or do you think it was a mistake for LucasArts to sell the rights to them? Clone Wars or Rebels?
