Mansion Extravaganza [Halloween 2K18]

Spooktacular Haloween Challenge 2018

Greeeeetings fellow humans! Welcome to the newly reconstructed Cinnabar Mansion! I’m ddrox, your host for this year’s Halloween Event Challenge, and this is Zemanahrad, my incompetent minion.

This building is designed as a near replica of the original Cinnabar Mansion, which burned down when Cinnabar Island erupted a while ago. We have done our best to recreate it with as much accuracy as possible, including all the original tiles. Of course, we couldn’t find a plan for the house due to the whole erupting volcano incident, so many of the rooms are recreated from memory and also may have been completely redone to fit what I needed to make this challenge work.

To celebrate the Grand Opening of the new mansion, We invite one and all to come to the Cinnabar Mansion Pokemon Extravaganza, an exciting month of Pokemon festivities. Don’t forget your favorite Pokemon game, as we will all be playing through them together and nothing is going to go terribly wrong I swear.

Unfortunately, when we tried to remove the ghosts and spirits from the site of the mansion, Zemana managed to completely screw it up, and now the place is even MORE haunted than before. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Challenge

Your goal is to move through the mansion playing the Pokemon game of your choosing. When you sign up, you’ll pick an entrance and a Pokemon to represent you as your character on the interactive map below. You start in the entry hall you picked, and after each gym, you move to an adjacent room on the map that you haven’t visited before. You choose what direction you go by posting after each gym badge with number of the room you want to enter.

OH, I almost forgot. Each room in the mansion is haunted. Every time you enter a room, you gain a new rule you have to play by for the entire rest of your playthrough. This includes the starting rooms. You can keep track of your ghosts by clicking on your character on the map below. Some rooms might be less spooky than others. Some more.

General Housekeeping Policies

As a historical building, we have a short set of guidelines for behavior in the house.
  • This challenge can be completed on any main series Pokemon game. Additionally, any ROM hack or fan game completed through 8 gym badges and an elite four counts as well.
  • Pokemon Amie and Pokemon Refresh are banned.
  • The New Experience Share is allowed for pure grinding. It should be turned off when progressing the story or adventuring, however.
  • Nuzlocke rules are not in place
  • You may trade or hack Pokemon to evolve them. Trade-with-item evolutions must be completed only after said item is acquired. Trading to another game to allow a location based evolution to occur is also allowed after the Pokemon has reached level 29.
  • You may hack/trade in up to 2 evolution items, one each after the 4th and 6th gyms, provided the item being hacked in is unobtainable prior to that point in the game. Players of games occurring in the Alola region may hack/trade in up to 2 of any evolution item at any point after the Trial at Wela Volcano. This is because all evolution items are technically obtainable at this point, but farming Pelago is a pain in the arse.
  • All other trading is banned, except with other people in the Mansion.
  • The challenge is complete once you beat the region’s Elite Four and the credits fully roll. Yes that means beating AZ or Brendan or running from Koko if that’s the type of thing your game makes you do. You may opt to continue your challenge past this point, however. In this case, treat defeating the champion as an additional badge.
  • After signing up or obtaining a badge, please wait until you are told what your new curse is before proceeding.
  • In the case of a contradiction between the rules here and the rules of a specific curse, the text of the curse prevails unless noted otherwise.
  • All curses stack. In the case of a direct contradiction, either myself or Janp will settle the contradiction
  • Players of games in the Alola region will not face gyms. Instead, they proceed to a new tile after every Grand Trial, as well as after four specific Trials: the Trial of Verdant Cavern, the Trial of Wela Volcano Park, the Trial of the Abandoned Supermarket, and the Trial of Vast Poni Canyon.

Ha whoops forgot to mention this in the signups silly me...

Pick a starting room! 1, 2, 3, or 4!

EDIT: Also no, your answer to the 4th question is incorrect somehow, despite me giving you the answer in the signup thread. Shameful.

Awww... I probably should have rerolled it when you went there with yellow. rip.

Also to make a couple things clear because they weren't enough imo:
Each room will have specific things you can do after beating a gym. These will be mostly listed out in a spoiler under the map when I get to it. For now though, each of the opening rooms has only one option - moving to the next room up. And yes, the fog will clear when someone enters a given room.
Once you complete each gym, post in here with an update and the action from the list that will be posted for each room you want to take. I'll hopefully get back to you within a reasonable time (<12 hours unless I sleep early and wake up late one morning).

Mansion Zemanahrad - Pokemon Emerald

  • Torchic and Mudkip will obtain Fighting and Earth typing after evolved. Because of the Curse, Treeko is my only choice here.
  • First part of the game doesn't have any Ground, Rock, and Fighting-types so the curse doesn't affect the run so far.

  • Nosepass is quite tanky and can 2-hit my level 15 Treeko.
  • Cascoon evolved to Dusktox after defeating Nosepass.

on154288 is on the move!
As you move to the next room, you can feel that your Pokémon are too scared to move. Is this the curse the Event Host was talking about?

The room itself is empty, aside from a single statue in the room. After further inspection, you found a lever on the back of the statue.

Do you want to move it or would you rather ignore it?

The room also has 3 exits. One to the room 7, one to the room 21 and one to the new room 31.

NOTE: Because I'm just a incompetent minion I can't update the map, but I updated your status. Check it out to see what is your new curse. Also the curse of the room applies from this moment, so you can continue your journey. Any additional curse from the events of the room applies starting with the next room.

Good news! I've figured out Spirit Shackle's borrowed CSS and put you on the map and rolled your 1st curse.

kitetheslakoth enters the Mansion!
As you enter the Mansion, you have urgent to drink something. You reach to your bag for a bottle of water, but it disappeared. Out of nowhere, a water starts dropping from the ceiling. You open your mouth to catch dribblets, but they also disappear before reaching you. You've been cursed! Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

There si nothing to do in this room aside from moving to the next one.

You leave the suspicious lever behind. Using it couldn't possibly help you. Or could it?

You continue to the next room. This one is huge and goes all the way to the right. Oh wait, I was the one who built it, so here's the picture I took before the whole building was shrouded by my Weezing!
https://i.imgur.com/8fzGjPT.png

As you can see, there is a computer that you can interact with. Or you can try and use the Teleport in the corner of the room.

As you enter the room, you hear the familiar voice of our Event Host and his cool companion (me) in your head: "We think it's time for you to use some awesome Pokémon." Images of 6 Pokémon are running through your head as the words sound and you have a urge to catch one of them. Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

Alrighty my Yellow run commences. Since its on my old GBC and not a VC wherein I could post screenshots, you'll have to take my word for it lmao. Seeing as I don't have Dark Types and there are only one Ghost Type in Kanto, my tentative team is as follows:

Pikachu, Sandslash, Haunter(who needs Gengar), Lapras, Ninetales and Pidgeot. Brock will be fun.... as they say lol. So without further ado, my run.

So I get my trusty Pikachu and name him Sparky after Ritchie in the Anime. Caught a Pidgey after battling my rival twice and named him Valkyrie. After grinding through Viridian Forest and getting Pikachu to level 15, I faced Brock wherein Double Team, Tail Whip and Quick Attack prove too much for the Rock Type Gym Leader. Then proceeded East, gaining more experience to catch AJ the Sandshrew and backtracked to Viridian Forest to train. Will wait for next curse before proceeding. Also I'll move up to the next room.

jdthebud enters the Mansion!
You decided to follow another participant and entered the Mansion. You follow the participant pretty closely, but the dark fog is blocking your view more with each step. After few metres, you found yourself surrounded by it. The curse of the Mansion started! Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

But don't worry, I'll tell you which way you can go. Up! To the room 21.

So I have to box Pokemon who fall asleep? Hmm not going to have too many instances where that happens save for annoying Jigglypuffs and against Drowzee/Gastly lines. Whenever I face Grass Pokemon I typically get Poisonpowder or Stun Spore as opposed to Sleep Powder. Anyways, I proceeded through Mount Moon with AJ and Sparky leading the way. Jessie and James proved little more than an annoyance with three Slash attacks taking them down. After arriving in Cerulean, I proceeded to battle Misty with Pikachu and it was a short contest. I used her Staryu to power up with Double Team and then proceeded to Thundershock her Water Pokemon. Was made all the easier when she used X-Defend twice on Staryu and once on Starmie. I then battled my rival once more before stopping for the next curse.

I'll interact with the Computer seeing as people ignore it :P

The thing is, if we let you interact with something in new room, you could end up in different room and interact with something there, which could lead to you being transported to another room and so on... And you wouldn't be able to continue with the game. So when we planned the events for the rooms, we decided that if player is transported to the new room, they won't get the room curse and won't be able to interact with items in that room.

Anyway...

on154288 is deep in the Mansion!
Moving on after spooky encounter with the TV, you continue to the next room...
https://i.imgur.com/a8kld8S.png

You can see familiar statue glaring at you. Just like the statue in the room 14, it has a hidden lever. Or you could try teleport this time. As you're about to make your decision, you notice a wall near the teleport moved. It could be worth investigating it.

There is only one exit out of this room that leads to room 69. You can feel sinister force waiting for you in it.

CodeHelmet hacks the Mansion!
You sit to the computer and see one room of the Mansion:
https://i.imgur.com/M3Vb7ev.png

You also found out about fake wall placed all over the Mansion. One is even located in this room.

There is only one exit out of this room that leads to room 21. Or you could remove the fake wall and go through there to room 43.

NOTE: The room you saw on computer will be revealed to all players on the map when Spirit Shackle gets to update the map.

Game Console is uninteractable because you just came out of there, phone because I DON'T KNOW.

But you move to 17! It's much smaller than Zem made it out to be, because he also included room 12 for some reason.

Update #1 on Ruby:

  • Caught Fungo the Shroomish in the Petalburg Woods.
  • Destroyed Roxanne with Fungo's Absorb/Leech Seed/Stun Spore Combo.

You can see a statue with glowing red eyes. It feels like it's watching you. You could investigate it. You also see a teleport in the corner of the room. Do you dare to touch it?

You're slowly thinking about what to do next, when you notice one of your Pokéballs is missing. You can hear a woman voice saying: "Sorry, but your little Boggy is now mine.", but you don't see anyone in the room with you. The curse of the Mansion strikes again. Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

You can go to the room 14 on the left, room 29 on the right or room 43 right in front of you.

CodeHelmet October 7th, 2018 12:54 PM

Hmm can only catch first encounter Pokemon. Seeing as I caught Sandshrew already, the rest of my planned team is acquired via Game Corner(which is classified as a gift as I see it(feel free to say otherwise and its not the end of the world if I can't get Vulpix since I can always get Charmander as a back-up muwhaha)) or appears pretty much frequently(Gastly in Pokemon Tower). Anyways, I'm not catching anything for Gym#3 so I make my way to Bill's for S.S. Ticket and then wade my way South to Vermilion City and the S.S. Anne. Once there Pikachu battled all the Sailors while Sandshrew battled the rest(Taught Sandshrew Dig for Fire Types and Rock Types in Rock Tunnel). After departing the S.S. Anne with Cut(which I promptly taught to Sandshrew in place of Scratch(hence no Swift this run), I battled all the trainers along Route 11 for more experience. Then I Cut my way to Vermilion Gym, defeated all three Trainers as I searched for the two switches and battled Lt.Surge with a OHKO Dig attack. I give him credit for at least trying to hit me with a Mega Kick(which missed) as opposed to Thunderbolt(which wouldn't work).

Anyways after interacting with the Computer, I'll move through the Fake Wall into Room 43.

No more items to use? Eh not the end of the world if I simply level appropriately. Only time I really use them is against Sabrina when exploiting her Abra or in the Elite Four when repairing damage and reviving any fallen comrades. Guess I’ll just have to be as strong or stronger than my opponents when the time comes. Anyways, I made my way to Rock Tunnel with Valkyrie disposing of some Grass Pokémon and Beedrill along the way(got Poisoned twice so had to backtrack to heal). Once arriving at entrance to Rock Tunnel, I ventured into the Dark Cave knowing what was ahead of me(who needs Flash?). After grinding through Rock Tunnel(explicitly saving my Dig for when I absolutely needed it), I emerged on the opposite side nearly beaten to exhaustion. After healing up at Lavender Town, I bypassed many of the trainers by Cutting my way through a shortcut and into the Underground path. After arriving in Celadon City, I played the slots and earned enough coins for my next partner in Vixie the Vulpix. I then acquired fresh water from Celadon Department store and used it to open up Saffron City and the means to get back to Cerulean for me to train my new partner. After spending about an hour or so grinding to 30, I was ready to challenge the Celadon Gym. I battled all the trainers, getting paralyzed and poisoned several times to my annoyance. However, I gained two levels in doing so before healing up at the Pokémon Center. I then opted to grind three more levels out of my partner because I just felt like it. Why you ask? It’s because at level 35, Vulpix learns Flamethrower and that all but makes this battle a foregone conclusion. Before challenging Erika, I also obtained HM02 or Fly and taught it to Valkyrie as a precaution. I challenged Erika and thanks to Flamethrower, I steamrolled to victory.

I’ll investigate the statue.

So you're leaving that comfy bed behind you? Okay, enjoy your new curse! Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

The next room is really simple. There is a box and nothing else...
https://i.imgur.com/WIUex8e.png

As you enter, dark flame appears behind you and blocks the only exit from the room. Looks like there is nothing else to do other that opening the box. What kind of evil things are waiting for you inside?

NOTE: I had to edit your character screen a little bit as the new curse wasn't visible. If you hover over the name of the curse, you'll see what it does.

You're looking the statue right to the eyes. It looks like they're glowing brighter and brighter red. You can see only red now. It feels like you're floating... Are you still in the Mansion? Are you even in the realm of living?

And then.. PUF! The red light is gone and you're standing in different room.

https://i.imgur.com/T11gLrM.png

Suddenly you feel the urge to teach your Pokémon how to slash their victims to pieces. Could this be the curse of this room? Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

You can see big window on one of the walls. But there is just another room on the other side. You also noticed destroyed flowerpot and a trail leading to the wall. There is no way out of here, unless you want to jump through the window. Or you could follow the trail...

You enter the mansion. There is shiny Phantump floating in the room. It is not reacting to you.

As you're departing to explore the mansion, you stumble over small rock. The curse is upon you! Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

You ignore the food and investigate the statue. Was this wise decision? You're looking the statue right to the red eyes. It looks like they're glowing brighter and brighter. You can see only red now. You close your eyes...

You hear TV static... When you open your eyes, the table with the meal is gone. You're lying on the ground in different room:
https://i.imgur.com/wJlA9Rw.png

There is TV right in front of you. Did you come out of it? You're about to leave the room, when you notice two things. First - there is a fake wall similar to the one you've already seen. Second - you have one more Pokéball on your belt. Check your character on the map for more info about the curse.

You could try to walk through the fake wall or leave through the only exit to room 5.

I hope I didn't forget on anything...

Hmm so I have to go catch Gastly when I was planning to do so all along. Before I do, I figure I'd go get the Silph Scope so I can catch them in the first place. So that meant that Vixie, Sparky and the rest of my team spent about 20 minutes clearing Rocket Game Corner of the Kanto Scum. Then I made my way over to Pokemon Tower where I added my next team member in Revenant. It's too bad I can't evolve him into Gengar... since he could learn Strength. Guess Lapras will have to do when I eventually claim her in Silph Co. With PokeFlute in hand, I cleared out both Snorlax, got Super Rod(because I can) and then trained hard on getting Revenant up to snuff. Eventually, I got all five of my team up to level 48 and evolved a few of my team members to make them more deadly. I then proceeded to challenge Fuchsia Gym wherein my main challenger in Vixie level'd to 49 when disposing of the secondary trainers. Heal'd up at Pokemon Center and proceeded to steamroll Koga for a change. Usually his Venomoth gives me issues but a level 49 Ninetales(with 100 Speed and 100 Special for base stats), really does kick some butt against Bugs.

With Soulbadge now in my possession, I await my next curse. I'll walk through the Fake Wall by the way.

****! And I was 100 % sure that curse will screw with you. I'll have to try again...
CodeHelmet found a dark path!
You push the fake wall away and find yourself in a weird dark pathway. You decides to take a risk and go through it. After a while, you find another fake wall and run through it to the new room...
https://i.imgur.com/WIUex8e.png

This time, you're not alone. You can see Ampharos standing over small box. As Ampharos opens it, several ghosts and spirits flew out of it. They knock both of you to the ground and for a while, all you can see are these spirits. For a moment, you feel that your curses are lifted. But then, you feel a burden of the new ones.

When you get up, you're alone again. There is only one exit to the room 69.

NOTE: Your old curses are gone, but new set of them take their place. You'll probably have to change your team to fit the new curses.

You're looking on the ground and follow the trail. It ends out of nowhere right at the start of the wall. Are you suppose walk through the wall? You run against and... NOPE, that was a wrong idea. Or was it? You run against it again and... NOPE, it still hurts. Wait! The wall is collapsing and you can see another room!
https://i.imgur.com/8fzGjPT.png

"Hey! You'll pay for it!" You hear the voice of the Event Host in your head and your body shivers as it receives new curse.

In this new room, you can either touch the teleport, try meddling with another statue. Computer is apparently broken.

Or you could just leave to the rooms 41, 27 or 14...

You kneel down to the box and open it. Several ghosts and spirits flew out of it. As you look up, you would swear you've seen a Vulpix standing there with you. Ghosts knock you to the ground and for a while, all you can see are these spirits. For a moment, you feel that your curses are lifted. But then, you feel a burden of the new ones.

At least you can choose which one of the Ghost-Types to catch. I kinda forced myself to catch Abra for You’re a wizard, Harry curse in my run, because no other Pokémon is available at that point of the game. And to think that I was the one who cursed myself...

Mansion Extravaganza in Pokémon Ultra Moon

https://i.imgur.com/LtsCenz.png

PART 1

Oh god, I already forgot how loooong and booring is this part of the game. And hard actually. Or you can make it hard at least. There were 2 points, where I had to stop and grind for a few levels.

1st place was at Trainer School, where Teacher Emily has starter strong against yours. So if you don't catch anything to counter it, it can be really hard. I started with Rowlet named Harry and had really hard time against her Litten. But Harry wasn't alone! Grubbin named Fester joined the fun... Only to die horrible way in the flames! I'm not kidding. I had to restart the encounter, because both of my Pokémon were getting burned every single time. I even had to use items to beat her.

2nd place is 1st battle with Ilima. His Smeargle has move strong against your starter... Ember, that has 100 % chance to burn you!

I was so glad to catch something that wasn't weak to Ember - Igor, the teleporting Abra. But he couldn't attack at that point. And so I beat the 1st Trial with just Fester.

Anyway, I'll go to the room 7 for now... Spirit Shackle, give me your best shot!

Well the curses wasn't really affect my run either (Until I have to grind that Slakoth to Slaking in 2 hours)
The newest one - Locke Clause was actually gave me big trouble because I have to play so safely so my main pokemon won't dead at Mossdeep Gym which always my Nightmare with 1 hit Psychic by either Xatu, Solrock or Lunastone. (Because I didn't get any Dark or Ghost in Emerald)

Also, I read "Reduced maximum team member by 1" to "maximum to 1"
Was about to grinding 1 pokemon to level 60 :laugh-squinted:

Abra is hard to train at first but he will be useful later on so it is even.

CodeHelmet October 9th, 2018 12:42 PM

Hmm so you basically disqualified half of my team, including the primary means of me getting from Fuchsia to Cinnabar with Surf and the one Pokemon who'd learn Strength as well. You also cut me to 4 Pokemon for the rest of the adventure but I'm not locked into using Revenant anymore(even though he's one of my strongest Pokemon). So it means I'm going to have to go back and claim Bulbasaur from the caregiver in Cerulean and grind like I've never done before. I'm also going to have to swap AJ out for Rhydon since he can learn both Surf and Strength(not like I need Cut anymore either).

Hence my new team(after a ton of training and hunting for Rhyhorn in Safari Zone...).

I then battled Sabrina and sent out Patrick to battle her. I used Double Team twice to "power" up and she used Teleport twice in a row since her Abra knows jack offensively. It then used Flash on the 3rd round but failed to land before I OHKO'd it with a Rock Slide. I then repeated the process against her Kadabra and Alakazam and not taking any damage due to the boost in Evasion and her Psychic Pokemon fell to brute strength.

Will move to Room 69 and await next curse.

Update #4 on Ruby:
  • The Cursed Ground curse decimated my team, as both Rocky and Fungo fell to it, leaving me with only Brave left :(.
  • Backtracked to Dewford Town to get the Good Rod and fished up Beamer the Tentacool.
  • Went back to Mauville and snuck past the trainers to Fiery Path, where I caught Smoggy the Koffing.
  • Started doing a bit of grinding and training my new team members up while slowly making my way to Fallarbor Town.
  • Continued on to Meteor Falls and met Team Aqua for the first time.
  • Climbed up Mt Chimney, and Brave evolved into Swellow.
  • Defeated Maxie with a team effort.
  • Hopped down to Lavaridge Town, and took on the gym.
  • It took a couple tries, but I was able to defeat Flannery mostly with Beamer. Her Torkoal is a beast.

Set mode for the rest of the game. Why am I not surprised... and with no items makes this even harder... ugh. Either going to have to grind or do set-up with Valkyrie via its Sand Attack. At this rate I may be level 65 by the time I reach the Elite Four with all the Water and Rock and Ground Pokemon ahead of me. Anyways, I floated on a Rock Type Pokemon to Cinnabar Island with Shauna disposing of all the Water Type trainers for experience. Delved into Cinnabar Mansion(wait I thought I was already there!) and got the Secret Key from which Patrick demolished all Fire Trainers within, including Blaine. I traveled back to Pallet Town with Shauna gaining more experience and awaited my final curse in Viridian City.

Mansion Extravaganza in Pokémon Ultra Moon

https://i.imgur.com/vCPPpTr.png

PART 2

Well, this part was pretty easy. The curse was... welcomed, I would say. I'm still not sure what Pokémon I want on my team and this curse helped me by reducing my team to 5 Pokémon. So now I only have to catch 2 more. And I won't lose any exp by leveling Pokémon that I would have to box in the end.

So I continued to Route 3 and the Meadow, where I caught Oricorio and named her Rosemary. Then I saw her back sprite and didn't want to use her anymore. And I realized I already have Ghost, Psychic and Eletric-Types and I don't really need Fire-Type. I'm thinking about catching Mantyke or Stufful. It could be fun. But Igor evolved during this part.

You know what was also fun? Beating Hala! I mean I had 2 super effective Pokémon. What did you expected?

And with that, I pray for a better curse now! Btw, I think you forgot to include room 7 interactions in the main post so I had to find them myself in the plans... Anyway, I would like to try right teleport

Forgive the lack of creativity or formatting - I’m limited to mobile for a few days while sitting my friend’s doggos. But, I just defeated Cheren, thanks to the combo of Snoots the Snivy and bobo the Riolu (temporary likely, not sure if aura sphere counts as bioluminescence but I was planning on switching him out anyway). Snoots took out Patrat, then bobo defeated Lilliputians with a well-timed counter! both Snoots and bobo are at level 13, with Mirandove the Pidove sitting in the back at level 9! We are ready to proceed deeper into the mansion, into room 7! ???? - Goatboy88 the Cofagrigus

I'm going to ignore the fact that the notes say that the teleporter from 7 goes to 17. Probably because there's no telepad in 17. Additionally, thou hast been further cursed.

BlissyMKW October 10th, 2018 7:32 PM

No items outside of battle that aren't TMs. Well then, looks like we're off to a fantastic start. Other curses getting thrown into the mix will likely just make things harder for me, but we'll see how things go. Without further delay, let us begin.

Episode 1 - Super Spooky Mansion Time
Spoiler:

Current Curses: Cursed Bag - No items outside of battle (except TMs)

Well, it's been a while since I've played through Black 2 and White 2, so this should be a time and a half. Anyway, after the usual starting stuff and things, I decided to go with Oshawott as my starter. Even if I get screwed over by a curse that forces me to stop using my starter, I'll at least have an HM slave for Surf and Waterfall if I need it. Also, I normally go for the Water starter, so...yeah. Anyway, beating up John's Snivy was a thing that happened and then we were on our way.

Sure, I should've probably bought some Potions before leaving Aspertia City, but we like to live dangerously, and I want to save my money for item buying before the gym leader. Anyway, after Bianca's little tutorial and Alder's chat, we're off to possibly catch a second team member because I have a feeling something will ruin my run even further, so it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Although, the first couple of routes have nothing worthwhile, so I'll be waiting until Floccesy Ranch to catch a second team member.

After nearly reaching Lv. 10 on my starter by looking for a Mareep at Floccesy Ranch, I stumbled upon a Riolu instead. To be honest, this is fine for my team, and it's rare that I get the chance to use Lucario, so I decided to take it. Took about half my Poke Balls, but since I doubt I'll be catching anything else until after the first gym, tossing a few Poke Balls is no big deal. Now, to do some grinding before I fight John again.

So...while I was grinding, I looked into Riolu's level up moves, and I swear they delibrately made it worse by switching Feint and Force Palm's learn points with each other for B2/W2, probably because the first gym is Normal type and Riolu can actually just break it if it learned Force Palm at Lv. 11. Also, Riolu has a 5% encounter rate, but I ran into three of them before finding one Mareep. Anyway, with that aside, it's time to face off with John again...and he was still easy. All it took was spamming Tackle with Braev, which is what I named my Oshawott.

Anyway, with John beaten again, it's time to go search the ranch for items, battles, and a missing Herdier. While I do manage to score another Potion, a spare Poke Ball, and John gives me a Paralyz Heal, we end up running into...the vengeful spirit of one of the Team Plasma members I destroyed in my Black Nuzlocke, trying to steal a Herdier. Sure, I get a free Frustration TM out of the meeting and he escapes deeper into the mansion to haunt me more later, the problem of the moment is solved, and it's back to Alder in Floccesy Town.

So Alder has us fight basically experience fodder, and while on our way back to Aspertia City, he hands over some Oran Berries I can use to heal during the gym leader. Speaking of which, the time has come to tackle the first gym. With a party of two, let's see how we fare.

Gotta love how Gen 5 gyms give you free Fresh Water when you first go in. Anyway, the trainers were cleaned up by Anubis pretty easily with a little help from Braev, so...they were meh. After a trip to the Pokemon Center, the time has come to face off with Cheren. While his Patrat does a lot with Tackle after one Work Up, Braev managed to handle it, even if he had to use his berry. As for the Lillipup, I figured it would be "spam Quick Attack to win," so I used an X Attack I had picked up somewhere. Since I knew he would go for Work Up, though, I tried to get him with the Counter only for him to go for a second Work Up. Afterward, all it took was for Anubis to tank a Tackle, eat her Oran Berry, and obliterate the Lillipup with Counter.

All in all, outside of Anubis getting crit by the second trainer's Patrat, the first gym was overall very easy, even without Force Palm. And since there's only one way forward, our investigation will proceed...to Room 7. Let's see what curse awaits us next.

Here I was hoping to teach Double Team to Revenant to abuse Generation 1 even further but TM's are now banned. Anyways, the battle against Giovanni was surprisingly simple. I opened with Valkyrie who has a distinct advantage over Dugtrio because hes immune to all of his offensive attacks. Only thing that affects him is Sand Attack so after spending 8 turns using Sand Attack to reduce Dugtrio's accuracy to -6 stages, I decide to whittle down Dugtrio's hitpoints with a couple Quick Attacks that unfortunately miss because Sand Attack in reverse sucks. I keep trying but ultimately I get to -6 on Accuracy too. So I stubbornly try for another five turns to land a hit but to no avail. I ultimately decide that its time to swap to my sweeper in Patrick so he comes in as Dugtrio goes for a Dig attack. He pops up and misses thanks to Valkyrie's accuracy reduction. I then start using Double Team to power up Patrick while also making him harder to hit since Accuracy and Evasion stack. After successfully getting 6 Double Teams(effectively doubling Attack, Defense, Speed and Special), I unleash a Surf attack that OHKO's Dugtrio. Against Giovanni's Persian, the only thing that concerned me was that it knew Double Team but having normal attacks against a Rock Pokemon meant that I had the clear cut advantage. So I used Rock Slide and OHKO'd the wily cat Pokemon. Against Nidoqueen, Nidoking and Rhydon, Surf did wonders. I claimed the Earthbadge and will await my final curse. I will investigate the box in 666. While I await my fate for my Elite Four run, I went to my favorite training ground on Cycling Road and level'd to 65 for my run.

You decided that you want to go to the room 7, but there is no way to get there without going to room 14 first... I'll just put another curse on you for making me check the map and posts again...

There is just one weird statue. After further investigation, you found a lever on its back. Do you dare to touch it?

Or you can continue to the rooms 7, 31 or 21.

jdthebud through the looking glass!
You slowly approach the window. You can see a room where you were just a moments ago.

Suddenly a pair of ghostly hands appears! It sucks you into the glass! For a while, you're floating through weird reverse dimension and then you're thrown back to the Mansion's reality.
https://i.imgur.com/nHQbOjz.png

You're standing in the whole new room. There is only a TV and statue to investigate, but the TV doesn't seem to work. You walk closer to it and a ghostly hand appears again and slaps one Pokéball on your belt.

Or you could go up to the room 5. You could also go down, but that lead back to room 31 and I forbid you to go there again.

...I am very dumb. And now with that extra curse, we can proceed to watch the game screw me over at every possible turn with bad encounters. All we need now is every other required nuzlocke rule and then the despair party will really start. Virbank City, please be gentle.

Update #1
Spoiler:
After asking if I was allowed to use a different starter, pending it not by game breaking.
As well as getting the confirmation that it would be fine. I started my b2 run.

I picked Tegpig giving my rival Oshawott.
However I changed Tegpig into Misdreavus. I named my Misdreavus Specter.
Having a ghost type against Oshawott made defeating my rival fairly easy.
I knew the first gym would be difficult, being that all of those mons know Bite. Especially being this is the challenge mode built into b2.
Psywave has an 80% chance to hit, but really feels like 20% chance to hit.

After talking with Alder and watching my Rival spazz over a missing mon.
I leveled Misdreavus to lv 14.(confuse ray)
Challenged the gym, fought the first trainer and realized after defeating him. This won't be high enough.
Nuzlocke rules aren't in effect so I left the gym and leveled Specter to lv 16.
Went back in the gym and got really lucky with confuse ray. Otherwise I most-likely wipe on Cherens Lillipup.
Pidove kept using work up. The one time confuse ray worked. It took itself out 1hitko.
First gym down. I await my second curse.

Spirit Shackle was in a hurry, screwed up and sent you to the room 666, where you were and were present in the box opening. The valid actions to do from room 69 were to go to the rooms 26 or 17 or interact with the bed. OR we could go with the box opening, but that would have pretty much same effect as the last time. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

You continue your journey and find yourself in the pretty crowded room. There are two teleports and a statue in the corner of the room. You can interact with any of those things if you like. Or you could leave to the room 14.

Oh and your new curse arrived! I hope you're SET on the completing the run.

You know you're late and everyone is probably already at the end, but you still enter the Mansion.

As you enter the first room, a ghost of a woman appears. You're ready to send your partner to fight you, but you can't reach your Pokéball. Is it even on your belt? The curse has find you!

Anyway, you can run from the ghost to the room 29.

That's an interesting question... I would say that if you want to make the run harder, pick one with the non-banned type. But I don't see a problem with using Psychic-Type if you feel like you need it.

After little bit of wandering, you end up in the room with a couch and a armchair...
https://i.imgur.com/91lxm2b.png

There is also a curse lying on the floor, so you pick it for yourself.

It has been a while since you relaxed, so maybe you could sit on the couch? Or you can leave to the room 5 or go back to the room 69, but why would you do that?

"First thing - congratulations! Second thing - Your price is that your post will no longer be tagged as spam (honestly I have no idea why is this happening).

Lastly, there is one more decision to make: Will you lift one curse you have from all the players that also suffer from it OR would you rather put one of your curses on few random players?"

As you're leaving after your answer, Absol stops you: "Don't leave just yet. You might be finished with the run, but Mansion is not finished with you..."

And Chimecho appears out of nowhere!

CodeHelmet October 12th, 2018 3:06 PM

Not one to complain but... when my curses were re-done, my starter(Electric), Ninetales(Fire) and planned Surf-bearer in Lapras(Water&Ice) were banned from use. That left me with my 2nd(Pidgeot), 3rd(Sandslash) and 5th(Haunter) Pokemon left on my roster. If we slide them down the list, Pidgeot would become first, Sandslash would be second and Haunter would be third. Meaning for this final curse, Bulbasaur would have been #4 and I swapped Sandslash for Rhyhorn(who has since evolved into Rhydon) since it was the only Pokemon who could use Strength and Surf. If this curse was to disqualify Rhydon... um how exactly would I finish the game when I need Strength and Surf to reach Victory Road? XD If its Venusaur(or in this case Shauna) that is disqualified, that definitely makes things harder... but not impossible. I'm going on the assumption its Venusaur(Shauna) disqualified because, as I mentioned, I can't complete the game without Rhydon(Patrick).

So Shauna gets boxed into the PC and I challenge the Elite Four with just 3 Pokemon. Before getting there though, the 2nd to last battle with Blue and Victory Road was relatively uneventful with Revenant as my ace in the hole. Something about being immune to Blue's Sandslash(until the final battle) makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Put so many foes to sleep before using Dream Eater or swapping to Patrick/Valkyrie for the sweep made it all the easier. After surviving and healing up, I stockpile Full Restores and Max Revives for use in between Elite Four matches. I can't use items during battle but I'm not barred from replenishing myself in between(and with three Pokemon, I better not be). Before challenging the Elite Four, I opted to round out the team at level 70 seeing as everyone was level 67 by the time I finished getting through Victory Road(and every bit of leveling will help).

Anyways, here's how the Elite Four and Champion bout went down:

Lorelei: Without Shauna, I had only one Super Effective Counter against her in Patrick. However, Patrick would be crushed by Water attacks so I had to do some set-up. I opt to open with Revenant who immediately puts her Dewgong to sleep. I then swap to Valkyrie who puts three Sand Attacks into it to reduce its accuracy before swapping back to Revenant just as it wakes up from its slumber. I put it back to sleep with Hypnosis and switch in Patrick. I then manage to get up 3 Double Teams before it wakes up and thanks to Accuracy and Evasion stacking, her attempts at hitting me with Bubblebeam are all for nought. I finish maxing my Evasion and go to work on her Ice Types by unleashing one Rock Slide after another. Soon enough her entire team is swept aside.

Bruno: This match was all about Ghost > Fighting. As for the Onix, I put them to sleep and disposed of them with Dream Eater. The only Fighting Type that posed any real threat was Hitmonchan for knowing Elemental punches as opposed to Fighting Type moves. I quickly KO'd him with Hypnosis/Dream Eater combination and repeated it on Hitmonlee. Against the 2nd Onix, I repeat the Hypnosis/Dream Eater effect so as to avoid getting hit by Earthquake. Against Machamp, I had a little fun by KOing it with Night Shade lol. None of its attacks had any effect muwhahahah.

Agatha: Again Revenant shined in this battle and by saving Psychic's PP, I managed to sweep her team in no time flat. The level difference really did help a lot here.

Lance: This was pure strategy here since Gyrados is a real pain. However, Revenant solves that problem by being immune to Hyper Beam so I open with Hypnosis. It fails and Gyrados attempts to attack with Hyper Beam, only to miss harmlessly. I then manage to put it asleep on the 2nd round before swapping to Valkyrie to reduce its Accuracy with Sand Attack. After reducing its accuracy five times, I swap to Patrick just as Gyrados wakes up. Being a Rock Type Pokemon, its resistant to Hyper Beam and only has to fear Hydro Pump. Thanks to the five Sand Attacks, nothing lands on Patrick as he's powering up with Double Team. Once at +3 Evasion, I KO Gyrados with a Rock Slide. The first Dragonair has two electric attacks to go along with Slam and Hyper Beam. Being immune to both Electric moves and resistant to the other two, I simply dispose of this Dragonair with Strength. The second Dragonair is a bit more dangerous due to knowing Ice Beam and Bubblebeam but thanks to +3 Evasion, I'm able to KO it without getting a scratch. The speed demon Aerodactyl is next and it tries to Hyper Beam me but misses. It quickly falls to a bout of Surf. Finally, Dragonite. Level 62 whopper but has just one move that scares me in Blizzard. Thankfully, its accuracy sucks so when it attempts to use it, it misses. I then OHKO it using Rock slide.

Blue: Being the final battle, I open with Valkyrie because Sandslash knows Earthquake and I don't want to risk losing either Revenant or Patrick to the Super Effective move. In exchange for knowing Earthquake, Blue's Sandslash forget's Swift so this makes the final battle all the easier to exploit. I open with Sand Attack x 6 and he lands a Poison Sting that thankfully doesn't poison and a Fury Swipes that does minor damage. He then proceeds to miss on three Slash attacks before I swap to Revenant and put Sandslash to sleep. I then swap to Patrick and power up with Double Team(with the PP dropping to zero after maxing out). I then KO Sandslash with Surf. Against Alakazam, pure strength was the recipe here and no amount of Recover will stop me from victory. His Exeggutor was a pain as it nearly Leech Seeded me but after a couple Strength attacks, it fell. Cloyster was next and I ran over it with a Rock Slide. I repeat the process against Ninetales but run out of Rock Slide PP. It doesn't matter because the hard part is now over. Blue's Jolteon stands no chance with Thunder, Thunderbolt, Quick Attack and Pin Missile as its options. It falls to a Strength attack and I claim victory.

Update #2
Spoiler:

I arrived in Virbank city and caught a http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/growlithe.gif.
Leveled it to 19 and challenged Roxie.
Her Koffing wasn't such an issue as Specter's confuse ray hit every turn.
Neither was her Grimer.
Unfortunately her lv19 Whirlipede was a different story.
Thankfully Nuzlocke rules aren't in place or I'd be finished as confuse ray never worked. And rollout is a strong move.
I beat her my second go-around as rng didn't ruin me.

Bruno lv 19

Reversal
Ember
Helping Hand
Flame Wheel

Specter lv 21

Astonish
Psywave
Spite
Confuse Ray

The statue looks creepy, and teleport pads bring back memories of Silph co.
I'll go to room 14.

CodeHelmet sleeps...
You lay on the couch, waiting for a well deserved sleep. Instead, you have nightmares about all the things you have witnessed in the Mansion.

Then you wake up in different room. There is Absol standing right in front of you.

"Before you leave, there is one choice to make: Put 2 more curses on one random player OR would you rather do nothing and have some more sleep?"

Brewmaster is going deeper...
Okay, it's time to move! You turn right and go to the next room. There is only one creepy statue in the middle of the room. Seriously, what's the deal with all these statues?

You decides to take a break and eat something, but when you open your backpack, all the items are gone... The curse is on it again...

Anyway, you can investigate the statue here OR go to the rooms 31 or 21. Or to the room 2, but that would be pointless...

Mansion Extravaganza in Pokémon Ultra Moon

https://i.imgur.com/NTR8ufJ.png

PART 3

Yay, this was fun! The curse really shuffled with my planned team. I boxxed Harry immediately after booting up the game. And I spent about half an hour evolving Igor to Alakazam.

Now, what Pokémon should I replace him with? I decided to go with Morelull. And because it was almost night in the real life (which means day in Ultra Moon) I had to rush the beginning of the Akala Island with only Fester and Igor. I was also surprised that Lana's Trial starts right when you step in the Brooklet Hill. So I had to complete it before catching Morelull.

The Trial itself was pretty easy as I had newly evolved Charjabug. I love this Pokémon's design even more now when I could see its animations.

Anyway I was able to catch Morelull and nicknamed her Elvira and then return to Melemele Island and caught Tentacool - nicknamed Norman.

With my new members, I wasn't feeling like grinding and so I've moved to the Wela Volcano Park... And it was huge mistake. I didn't realize that 3/4 of my team are in disadvantage in the next Trial and how hard can that Alolan Marowak with Thick Club hit. I got steamrolled by the Totem Marowak on the 1st try. So I didn't grind again and went against it for the second time. And it was really close this time. I started with Norman and it survived with 8 HP after 1 Flame Wheel form the Totem Pokémon. I used Hydro Vortex and took down about 1/4 of Marowak's HP. Norman fainted next round and I sent out Igor and almost took Marowak down, but ti still survived with HP in the red zone. At this point, I thought I'm going to lose again. But then I realized that I was given Revives at one point of the game and so I used one on Igor and was able to finish Alolan Marowak and complete the Trial.

And so I think I'll just move to the room 17 for now AND I REALLY HOPE NEXT CURSE IS NOT LIGHT'S END, BECAUSE THAT WOULD REALLY SCREW MY WHOLE TEAM!!!

I want to lift Starter-lock hex from all players. Gettting their starter locked is really sad since it usually the Pokemon you used the most though the journey.
and hi CodeHelmet, look like you made it here too. (how can you train your pokemon so fast anyway)
P/S: Shouldn't you edit the first post as well?

BlissyMKW October 13th, 2018 4:29 AM

Well, now that we're even deeper in the soup than before, let's move onto...

Episode 2 - Super Spooky Poison Party

Spoiler:
Current Curses: Cursed Bag - Want to use items outside of battle barring TMs? Well, sucks to be you.
First Encounter Clause - It's a nuzlocke without being a nuzlocke

So, stepping into Room 14 (not 7 because I totally graduated without the ability to read numbers correctly), we are faced with a disastrous problem. Now that I can only get one encounter per area with the fact that I kinda have to catch stuff due to potential curses that can forcibly remove team members, I have to roll the encounter dice and pray to Arceus that I get something viable for lategame, and since earlygame is flooded with bad mons, I have to get lucky. Even worse, I get three encounters before the end of Virbank City gym. Anyway, complaining aside, let's move on. I saved after beating Cheren, so let's get back in there and do our thing.

So after getting out of the gym, a wild Bianca appears and gives me the almighty, totally usable outside of battle Return TM, which will be perfect for Anubis when her happiness gets high and she evolves into Lucario...oh, and I guess we also get a C-Gear and Bianca has a reunion with Cheren, but who honestly cares about that? Believe it or not, Bianca will actually be useful to me in order to check when my Riolu is ready to evolve...but I can't use Rare Candies, so that sucks.

Anyway, with that out of the way, I went and healed up, and it was back to Floccesy Town for the final time. Of course, we get interrupted by Bianca to get the Habitat List, a feature that sort of came back in OR/AS, but never saw the light of day again, almost like horde battles, which was, in my opinion, a more effective EV training method than the SOS method of Sun and Moon...but we're not here to discuss competitive training preferences. At least Anubis has Force Palm now, so that will up my firepower a lot until she evolves. Now, onward to Virbank City, and potential encounters.

So after a father daughter dispute and a heal at the Pokemon Center, it's time to scout Virbank City and...that other area near Virbank for encounters. At least I wish I could say that but it turns out that the only grass in the general area is Virbank Complex outside and then the complex proper, so that means whatever I get, I either catch it or I get no new team member at all this episode. Let us hope, pray, and get our BlessRNGs ready.

I got a Growlithe from the grass inside the complex proper, and to be honest, I'm fine with this encounter. A Fire type would be nice for my team to cover for Grass types, and Roxie just so happens to have a Whirlipede as an ace. All in all, he can get some good milage, so I caught him and named him Blaze. Now that I have Blaze, it's time for the next step, and that is Audino grinding to prepare for the gym, especially now that I have a new addition to the team. So, let's do it!

Alright, so after a lot of running back and forth waiting for shaking grass, we're back. Braev finally evolved and learned Razor Shell, Blaze is caught up and has Flame Wheel, and Anubis is Lv. 19 because she will be seeing no action in the gym. She also got Copycat, but eh, Copycat sucks. Anyway, I took the chance to take care of business at Virbank Complex in order to fill up the wallet a little more, along with get the Thief and Rock Smash TMs...not that I'll be using either of them.

So with everything else done, all that remains is the gym, which should be fairly easy for the combined efforts of Blaze and Braev. Anyway, in the span of two battles, I got poisoned twice and had to use a Super Potion, all because of Poison Gas, the first guy's Koffing getting a crit Tackle, and more Poison Gas from the second Koffing. I don't want to go back and buy more Antidotes because that money can be saved for items later, so we're just gonna fight Roxie with what I got using Braev in the lead.

I was expecting to be poisoned turn 1...but the Koffing just died because Braev crit it with Razor Shell. I mean, I'm not complaining. Also, I honestly forgot Roxie only has two mons instead of three, so I was a bit surprised when she was sending in Whirlipede next. Blaze hit it like a truck after the Protect, but I got a low roll and didn't kill, giving her a chance to heal. The second time around, I still didn't kill, and with a third Flame Wheel, it went down, but not before poisoning me with Poison Point because of course it does. Either way, I still won. Venoshock is 100% useless to me right now, though, so the money is the only thing worth my time.

But with the second lord of the mansion defeated, it is time to continue our investigation. I may as well try the statue.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you'll have fun here.

Coffee Jeans enters the Mansion!
As a late attendant, you quickly move through the entrance door.

Cold wind hits you to the face and you hear the hooting of the Noctowl. It looks like there are trees all around you... Is this the curse of the Mansion? Check your character on the map for more informations.

There is only one way out of here and it leads to the room 7

You're too kind to give players their starters back. If I checked it right, it will affect me, jdthebud and Radboy... Which means Radboy won't have any curse for the 1st part of the game. But I'm pretty sure Mansion will find the way to fix this.

And yeah, we should update the first post, I know about it, but kinda hoped that people won't notice until the end of the October, when would I edit it.

BlissyMKW is spooked!
It's finally time for some action! You bravely pull the lever and... nothing happens...

You try again, but nothing happens... Is the statue broken?

What now? Disappointed, you're about to leave, when the statue jumps down the pedestal, glares at you and starts chasing you. It could as well turn into clown now and you wouldn't be surprised.

It chases you for a few minutes and it feels like you've run all over the whole Mansion at least twice, but you finally get rid of it. You find yourself in the whole new room with two tables full of food. You can choose 1 out of 4 plates.

Or you can go up to the room 32 or down to the room 21

Oh and by the way, you should be grateful to us, so this curse is put on you specially by the Event Host (NOTE: The First-encounter clause doesn't apply for the Pokémon you choose for this curse - so you can catch it on any road you've already been).

I’ll place two more curses on a random player. Feels fitting don’t you think? I must confess, that I’ve never beaten Lorelei with Rock moves until yesterday. Was surreal and the reason why is because Rock Pokemon typically are at a huge disadvantage except for Kabutops and Omastar(who I might use in my next Yellow run just to knock her out that way again).

It’s not hard to train in Yellow. I’ve played it so long that I know good areas to grind and the hardest Pokémon to train are Bug Types... seriously go try a mono-Bug run on Gen 1. It’s as hard, if not harder, than a mono-Fighting run.

jdthebud October 13th, 2018 7:43 AM

Yay....but I'm much too far into the game to bring Mudkip back, and also he's part Ground so I can't use him anyway....sad.

Coffee Jeans October 13th, 2018 10:00 AM

Dumb question:
I clicked my character on the map and it says I have forests curse but I'm not sure what it does. How do I check what the curses mean?
