Though I hate to break up the Wigglytuff twins, I have been looking for a Jigglypuff for over an hour and am having no luck finding one. I know they're rare, but Im really wanting to get started, and already know Im going to have to spend awhile looking for Marill later on. So any other pre-first gym pokemon! (I officially decided on Gold Version, so cant do Ledian or Teddiursa) |

Update 1
Moving fairly quickly! I have beaten both Faulkner and Bugsy with no trouble at all actually. Furret's pretty good, and is able to sweep most of the pokemon I've fought since getting the second badge. I will say getting him to evolve was a little bit of a task, because Sentret is just SO slow, but once he learned Quick Attack it fixed that. Right now I just caught my Sunkern and am going to level it and Furret up before I try Whitney. I already won the bug catching contest, so I can get Sunflora whenever (and though I would love to hold off til it learns Giga Drain, I dont think I can make it til lvl 46) but going to spend a little more time before evolving it. Current Team Barker / Furret (M) Lvl. 21 https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/gold/normal/furret.png Fury Swipes Ice Punch Quick Attack Mud Slap Solia / Sunkern (F) Lvl. 15 https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/gold/normal/sunkern.png Absorb Growth Mega Drain |

Update 2
Much slower progress today! For one, Whitney lived up to her reputation as difficult yet again. She might be the most capable AI in these early games. She locked my Sunkern into a nearly 15 turn Encore of Growth, and every time it ran out she immediately used it before I could use a different move. Then after that, despite me trying to be smart and avoid her Miltank's Rollout, as soon as I lowered its accuracy with Mudslap, she only used Stomp the rest of the battle, and along with Attract, I was out in no time. Second time around went much better, as I just led with Furret and used Mudslap until even Stomp was missing a lot of the time. After getting the third badge, I went straight to catch my third Pokemon, and though I have only used him for a short time so far, Sudowoodo is kind of great. It has a lot of good coverage with fighting and rock moves, and can even learn the elemental punches. After that, I decided to start looking for my fourth 'mon of Marill. Looking for a 1% spawn rate was not fun, but only ended up taking about 30-45 minutes. I'm going to spend some time leveling everyone up, but before I challenge Morty, but thankfully, Sudowoodo and Marill will make him much easier then trying to go in with only a normal and grass type. Current Team Barker / Furret (M) Lvl. 23 https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/gold/normal/furret.png Fury Swipes Ice Punch Quick Attack Mud Slap Solia / Sunkern (F) Lvl. 20 https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/gold/normal/sunkern.png Absorb Growth Mega Drain Sunny Day Shamrock / Sudowoodo (M) Lvl. 21 https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/gold/normal/sudowoodo.png Rock Throw Fire Punch Flail Low Kick Raiblu / Marill (M) Lvl. 15 https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/gold/normal/marill.png Defense Curl Tail Whip Water Gun Rollout |

Update 3
Smaller update today. Took a little while to train up Marill, but luckily it evolves at only 18, so started moving a lot quicker after that. With Azumarill and Surf, Morty was no problem at all. I've decided not to evolve Sunkern until level 31 so I can get both synthesis and petal dance, but at this point its becoming very difficult to train it even with a type advantage. Surfing in the Whirl Islands sounded like a great place to train it, but Tentacool's are Poison and Goldeen's know Peck, so only taking a quarter of their HP with Mega Drain doesn't make it easy. Good thing is, once it evolves, I actually think it may be pretty helpful, especially if I keep trying to overlevel it. My Furret has taken a back seat, but whenever I bring him out, he OHKO's just about anything. Thinking of teaching him Shadow Ball, which would then give him a type advantage move over 8 different types. Also considering renaming him "Fearet" lol At Chuck's gym, but going to wait til tomorrow to try him, just because I need it to be daytime to catch Farfetch'd and a Flying move will make the gym a lot easier. Update 4
Moving along in this challenge. I didnt feel like training up Farfetchd before the fighting gym, so just used Azumarill to go through it and didnt have too much trouble. I went straight to the Steel Gym as well, where I finally started to see some use for Sudowoodo, because he was the only thing that could really touch Steel-type. After that, I headed to the Lake Rage and Rocket Base and used that as the training for Farfetchd, which actually worked pretty well. Possibly the best surprise so far is that I taught Sunflora Hidden Power, and it ended up being Fire-type, which is not only amazing (since I dont have a lot of elemental coverage on this team) but also so fitting for a sunflower pokemon. I am now forever disappointed that they didn't make Sunflora a Grass / Fire type 😅 Sudowoodo also worked pretty well against the Ice types in Pryce's gym. Im glad he's finally becoming helpful, because there was a stretch there where I almost stopped using him entirely and made him an HM carrier. Renamed my Furret to Fearret because Barker sounded too friendly for a pokemon that has expansive coverage and nearly one shots most pokemon he fights lol. Im now in the middle of the Rockets at radio tower, but once I finish that up, Ill be going to get the last member of my team with Piloswine! Update 4.5 Rather than make a whole new post, just quick update for now! Got through Rocket tower, which was great for leveling up, but geeeeez I do not remember getting Poisoned that much. Its like every pokemon knows sludge, and it seemd like 50% of the time it poisoned. But still got through it! Updated the team as well.
