Been to a disney place twice. Once was one in California back when I was a young kid, so I don't remember everything. Second time was maybe 5-6 years back with a bunch of friends in Disneyland Tokyo.
|
my mom was one of the landscape architects who worked on a Universal Studios resort so since I have a vested interest in the discussion I hope people won't mind when I correct them and explain to them that, objectively speaking, universal >>> disney = ^)
|
no one's saying disney is better
except for scenery reasons and that much is subjective. :P |
I have a question to ask this chat, but it might be a little personal.... Do I have the chat's permission to go ahead?
|
I was joking, I don't care which park people like more
but even then I'm not sure that scenery is as subjective as people make it out to be, Disney theme parks are generally recognised by design experts to be at or near the top, with universal studios being close. iirc some of disney's rides cost up to $200 million to make because of how design intensive they are. at any rate I know a lot of it is confidential because that's just how the industry works but design firms like Forrec are regularly hired for consulting roles on projects by universal studios/legoland/six flags/etc but not for Disney projects, they don't seem to trust a whole lot of people to manage their stuff; their quality of production is just impressive, probably better than universal studios, and not by an insignificant margin |
I like the music that plays during illuminations so ill try to see it once more before it goes hahah. I know ill be going there at least once within the next few months.
Its honestly been too long that ive been to universal to really remember the scenery. All i remember is mostly the rides. |

ive never been to disney and kinda doubt i ever will. just not my cup of tea. i've been to other amusement parks and the whole standing in line for hours thing isn't really worth it
|
I think i stood in an hr long line maybe.... twice since i started going to disney frequently. Both for new rides when their wait time wasnt 3 hrs long. Normally we just do our fastpasses and any rides that have a small wait time if we feel like it.
That said getting the chance to go on expedition everest at least five times within an hr is always fun lmaoo. |
i will say that i really enjoyed the wizarding world of harry potter @ universal. holy shet, it was so fantastic. the level of detail was pretty phenomenal.

It's the January blues. January is a shitty month.
|
January is awesome, full of hope, optimism and fresh starts...
So, with that said, did everyone's resolutions survive the first week? Has anybody abandoned theirs already? |
What are "hope" and "optimism"?
I made no resolutions because I knew they wouldn't survive the week. xD |
Don't really make them myself. I was going to try veganuary but I've been doing well phasing out non-animal products gradually anyway so I decided instead to stop having chocolate and other sweet things containing dairy in as the next 'step'.
|
I don't make them because I know I'm going to forget what they are and I'd rather take things one day at a time, anyway. I'm much more focused towards my long-term goals, anyway.
|
no resolutions but january has been pretty mild so far. temperatures in the 30F+ range which is unusual for my area.
it feels almost tropical :J |
12-15C on average here but add humidity and it is cold. 3 weeks and I shall be back in my beloved Europe where the air is dry and heating is efficient.
|
my resolution is 1920x1080 and it survived the week yes thank you very much
|
i made no resolution bc all i want from this year is for it not to suck
it hasn't been exactly kind to that so far so i'm glad i didn't make any sort of resolution to try to help out hhh |
It is brutally cold today
30F with 20mph winds and 30mph wind gusts |

If I were to plan a trip back to Orlando, it'd be to go to Disney World for a few days, and then spend 1 day at Harry Potter at Universal. :< |
just don't get the warm butterbeer
it's awful |
They sell Butterbeer in a glass bottle at some stores, it's great

I LOVE the pumpkin juice

Chinotto is the best drink. It's not as fun as Irish Cream but heck, it doesn't worsen your speech impediment into hellishness either. My slur is getting worse nowadays. It's like someone swapped out my tongue for an alien's and it was never equipped to speak English.
On a thoroughly unrelated note... Rats are so frickin' fickle. One minute they're a vague, loving, furry splat on your shoulder and munching sweet nothings into your ear before actually cleaning it with their mouths, and then they blank you. Flat out blank you. Then that spins into deeper implications, like how the situation could repeat itself, minus a rat and plus a human, which would be extraordinarily depressing. So perhaps finding oneself a boyfriend or girlfriend isn't worth the threat of them getting sick of you. The rat doesn't like getting squashed and kissed and adored. The human might not too. Before you know it, they've obtained a restraining order and there is no more squashing, kissing or adoring for you. Then it's back to rats. Fickle rats. Or worse yet, a budgie, but they gouge your psyducking ear open and wrench your fingernails back until there is a squiggly painful white line of damage. But I am so glad we stopped talking about the weather. It's like a sedative except it puts you in physical pain. |
So about that weather.........

what time is your math class bc it's so late (to me. it's past my bedtime i should be asleep yikes)

Night classes are so weird, they feel so wrong I feel like i'm disassociating in them lol

I refuse to take any classes any later than 5:30. Only doing this because the prof that teaches the class is the same prof I've had last semester. |
Just need to push through today...it's been a tiring first week back.

I've got storytelling classes in a few days. It's going to be a blast, just so as long as people can decrypt what I say and don't have to ask me to repeat myself after every second word. The first person who says 'what' is going to get strangled.

there's literally a class about Harry Potter being offered at the college I work at
|
Sounds fun! When I was at school I wrote an essay on Disney Princesses. xD
|
Quote:
I've been wanting to write a Harry Potter fan fiction but it's been such a damnably long time since I've watched them all. My databank has eroded. Moss has grown over the facts. Can't remember the spells and lore. It's a car crash of misinformation in my mind. But imagine writing something so expansive and complex that educational facilities offer actual classes on it! The mind boggles. |
i love harry potter but i don't know if i love it enough to take a class on it. I feel like there'd be some....people in there who made me feel a bit cringy. I dunno. ~_~
also hi everyone!! |
Honestly I feel the Harry Potter franchise has...overstayed its welcome, just a tad. The Fantastic Beasts movies put me in mind of The Hobbit trilogy - wholly unnecessary and terrible for it.
...I did enjoy the books though, and even if the movies corrupted my vision of the world, they weren't *terrible* really. |
Listen! If you strain your ears and concentrate, you can hear someone on the other side of the world gasp sadly.
If you were talking about Star Wars there, you'd be in serious trouble right around now. |
The only Star Wars films that should exist are the original trilogy >.>
The Expanded Universe, though? Those books were fantastic. Too bad Disney declassified them all as non-canon...and then plagiarised some of the best parts of it. |
It’s getting a tad ridiculous by this point. I enjoy her expanding the universe but like... girl
I want to hear more about the other wizarding schools though. Particularly the ones in South America, Africa and japan |
it'd be one thing if she was expanding it with interesting facts that make sense towards the world building not ...... what she has been doing. hearing more about the other schools would be a good choice as long as those facts about said schools made sense lol

Australian school of wizardry, please. Stereotype it to death and it'll come to life quite nicely, I think. Put a few 'dinky' spells in there, a exclamation of 'crikey' after every incident, perhaps a few 'sheilas' for good measure and you've got a winner. And the main wizard can just be, like, a good bloke in search of a cuppa.
And for a Familiar or whatever, they can have a wombat. |
Everyone loves national stereotyping.
|
Indeed they do. It keeps them feeling grounded and sure of themselves, and humans love that sensation of security when it comes to their opinions. It's what the higher-ups prey on.
I wish we weren't always striving for comfort, though - constructing our own walls and trying to shut out the things that don't agree with us, and looking for subject matter that verifies our opinions rather than seek out the things which expose the cracks and rust. And when one starts to feel righteous is when things get genuinely bloody. I think we should all examine our beliefs and preconceptions under a microscope before we act on them, or worse yet, before we feel hate because of them. You can never think too much. |

What's going on today, everyone?
|
Just relaxing after finishing the community day. Still enjoying my time out from work.
|
i'm upset that i was so exhausted from work that i didn't do any community day even though totodile is my favorite starter. :( oh well.
|
I know exactly how that feels and that sucks big time. I've done almost all of them to some extent.
|
yeahhh. thankfully i don't even really play pokemon go so it's not a huge loss for me hahah.
|
It's kinda hard not to play around here especially when half the people at work play as well.
|
i only have one employee who also plays pokemon go hahah. he got me back into it for a while but i've been unstable lately so going out to the college after work (since i don't live in town) is a difficult chore for me.
|
I have like... zero time to play Pokemon GO these days. ;__; I'm also kinda put off on playing it because there's so few pokestops in my area and I'd actually have to travel quite some distance to find anything worthwhile, so I just don't bother.
|
I guess it doesn't help that I work in a mall so its kinda hard not to play. (on company time...shhhhh)
|
yeah it'd be a lot easier if i still lived in town but i like in smaller town 20 minutes out with like ... three poke stops so i'm basically in the same position as angie.
|
I too am relaxing after PoGO Community Day and a Deoxys Ex-Raid haha. I live in a medium sized city and there's a sizeable group of people that plays Go every so often.
|
For some reason I'm up at 3 AM and I'm not even really that tired. @[email protected]
|
i'm just here realising i'm completely screwed because my computing mock is tomorrow and i haven't studied enough lmao... i've been trying but it's just so difficult to pay attention to something i don't understand for so long

I went to a storytelling class today, and it was the first step in my path to become an actor and a better writer. You had to learn all about story structure and the bodily gestures that best help convey what is going on. Against all expectations, I had to participate in that. They told me to convey how I felt with a gesture, so I did a mortifying dab. Think Fortnite, but a mangled version of the move. I looked retarded. Then I was assigned to a stranger, and we had to take turns - one of us would say a sentence, and then the other would act it out. She did brilliant. I sucked. She said I was exquisite but yeah, you gotta take compliments with a grain of salt because... you're you. In my world, that's often a very confronting and inconvenient truth. And we were assigned three random cards with the option to act out all three, or just pick one. I got Dislike, Fury and Regret. Grim. Needless to say, I did Fury. At first I was blank, and then I remembered something pretty personal and violent from a while back. Internally violent, of course. But yes, that did it. I basically just punched the air, but the dynamism was amplified somewhat because my hair pitched forward and my hat flew off and decapitated someone. Or nearly. It hit the door at the side. It was my first time doing anything like this in front of people, and in a week's time I shall be performing a short story of my own live in front of an audience of thirty. Bit sudden, isn't it. I've just got to get something off my chest... Spoiler:
I haven't got a story yet, and I have never written a short story in my fucking life. Did I mention I have to tell it in five minutes? Five? Five?! Five?!?!!!!!!! I'm overdue for an anxiety attack. Knowing me, I'll have it just before I go on. But the idea of going up on that stage, the youngest performer there, and wowing them... sounds bloody brilliant, doesn't it. |
What I was afraid of happening with my booking of a holiday back home is happening. It's still over two weeks away and people are asking me to do too many things since I'll be over and part of the reason I booked this holiday was so I could relax. My friend warned me this always happens if you book holidays home even if you don't expect it to.
|
It's good to have a mall that's still popular and in use. Don't know what I would do without Auntie Anne's pretzels!
|
Auntie Anne's is good. I tend to go there whenever i go to the mall

Not gonna lie that sounds REALLY good right now. Though it's even worse when I'm at work and the front half of the store smells like Cinnabon because its only 3 stores down and that is ALL you can smell. xD
|
i've never been to an auntie annes. I've walked by it tho. I do like pretzels, I .... just have never actually thought to go and get something from there.
also hi everyone i've been inactive the past day or so because i had food poisoning!!!!! i'm now mostly over it. |
Yuck that sounds like no fun at all but I'm glad you're feeling better.
|
oof glad you're feeling better tyler. :c do you know what even gave you the food poisoning?

How long did it take for you to feel sick? If it was around 4 hours that apparently means your food was sneezed on or something like that. #SharingIsCaring
