I don't think I have ever been so excited for a club! History is a favorite subject of mine, and I've been getting really pumped for a discussion lately. I haven't been able to turn my head away from articles about kings and queens from all around the world.
How many of you have heard of Queen Amanirenas? We have a million novels, biographies, reconstructive busts, miniseries, movies, costumes, works of art, pieces of music and even Shakespeare celebrating Cleopatra. But what of the Queen who made Emperor Augustus' life much harder? Where are your movies Amanirenas?!!! I think she sounds like a much more noble, independent and successful queen. Take a look at her story on the website rejected princesses if you aren't already acquainted. https://www.rejectedprincesses.com/princesses/amanirenas |

Ah yes, Amanirenas, the queen of Kush. I actually don't know much about her beyond that so this was interesting to read about.
But I do love history. It's always been one of my favorite subjects in school and I love learning little random nuggets of historical knowledge like this. |
OOOOH YES! I love history! Such an enthralling subject, indeed! I have loved learning and researching everything from ancient Chinese religion to fashion in the Victorian Era since as long as I remember! I'm so indescribably excited for this club!
http://www.ddlgforum.com/uploads/gallery/album_2371/gallery_30420_2371_53890.gif (Me reading anything slightly related to the subject of history) Also, If anyone knows me, they know my adoration for historical fiction novels! Something is so charming about the way an author can bring a past event back to life in full colour. |
When it comes to History for me, it's World War 1 and World War 2 for me. Might even lob the forgotten Korean War(which has yet to end and why we still have 30k+ Troops stationed in S.Korea right now) and Vietnam into the mix(You can thank the stuck up French and Charles De Gaulle for that exploding in the first place). The reason I like those conflicts is because everything that led to them are lessons that people of today appear to have forgotten. They say people can learn from the mistakes of the past by reading and learning History and with that I agree 100%.
I'll just say this: MacArthur should have been fired for incompetence and Halsey should have been fired for not once but twice leaving Allied forces at the mercy of the Japanese. |

Afterward Augustus made peace with her, at least according to the Selina O'Grady article I read. Epic! |
I'd love to join! History was my favourite subject and I always found it so interesting. I enjoy earning about a lot of different cultures and time periods - whether it's the Egyptians, Ancient China, Medieval England, the French Revolution, American Civil War etc. I still have a lot to learn but it's so interesting seeing how humanity has progressed, and events of the past. I have a lot of history books on my shelf I have yet to read ;;

Sorry, if I didn't make it clear enough but I'd like to join this club!

Hi! I would like to join in! My favourite era is around 14-16th century, mostly in the central Europe and I consider myself an expert on Hussites and Hussite Wars.
On the topic of the Amanirenas - I haven't heard of her, but I would like to learn more about ancient Egypt. It feels like I know a lot about its last few years (Cleopatra, its demise, ...) but not on the early years, which sounds more interesting. |

I saw a really well-made miniseries on the emperor Shaka Zulu recently. I found a new favorite actor in Henry Cele. The costumes were breathtaking I love the music too!
https://i.postimg.cc/rsWyZqcF/6ae1473fa39130ff6360d242ae38dbaf.jpg I love historical miniseries and with Valentine's Day coming up I am going to snuggle into the White Queen soon an adaptation of the Phillippa Gregory novel based on the War of the Roses, its more fantasy then accurate to history but I still enjoyed both the novels and the series. I am gaining quite an interest in this era of time with my favorite manga being Requiem of the Rose King. Does anyone else enjoy manga/ anime inspired by historical figures like the Rose of Versailles, Le Chavelier D'eon etc? |
My mother prefers the Victoria series on PBS. Even though her record as longest serving Queen was broken by the current monarch who happens to be her great, great Grandaughter, there is something about Victorian London that is fascinating. Last Episode involved a Cholera outbreak, which in those days was certain death. Also the Zulu are quite interesting, even a blast to play as in Civilization games :) Impi units = OP lol

I saw the first season of that year. It wasn't bad at all! Your mum might also enjoy the Young Victoria movie with Emily Blunt if she is a fan of this era and doesn't already have it in her collection. |

So a few days ago was the 90th anniversary of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in which it is believed that Al Capone had gunned down some members of Bugs Moran's gang in Chicago. I would like to know if you guys think Al Capone was behind it or not, since it still remains a mystery.

Refusing to say who it was was likely out of fear or honoring a code among gangsters of not “snitching” to the Police. I’m leaning towards not snitching and self preservation because if they snitched, their life was forfeit due to the fact no one would be able to trust them and trust is a valuable commodity in Organized Crime. Even if the person survived their injuries, they wouldn’t have lasted long.
