Types you never use?

Are there any types of Pokémon that you either hardly ever use or just outright never use at all? I've not used many Bug types in all my years of playing Pokémon.

Ice is a type I've scarcely used in my main playthroughs, on the account of Ice-types typically being encountered too late in the game.

Sorvete March 2nd, 2019 9:32 AM

I don't use Normal type Pokémon that often, mainly because they're usually overshadowed by stronger typing Pokémon, but there's always a Snorlax or Tauros here and there.

I try to go out of my way to use every new first stage / fully evolved Pokemon in a given game so I get a good variety of type usage. Overall though, if left to my own devices, I don't really use Rock types very much. ;;

Fire and normal, unless they're a dual-type with something else on my team.

I used to be that way too until I started doing challenge runs and came to find Rock Types in Generation 1 are really underestimated, particularly the fossil ones in Kabutops, Omastar and the speed-freak in Aerodactyl. Kabutops and Omastar though are extremely useful against Lorelei due to Rock's advantage on Ice(4 of her 5 Pokemon have the typing) and not being vulnerable to any of her moves(since Water resists itself and Ice doesn't harm Rock like it does Ground).

Of all the Types, I rarely use Bug Types(for obvious reasons in Generation 1...) and Fighting Types(Generation 1 did them no favors either). If I had other regions/generations, I might change my mind on those Types but I just don't use them when playing Yellow Version.

Rock. In my eyes, Steel types do everything Rock types can, but better.

Princess Diana March 3rd, 2019 1:47 PM

I really like Poison-type but rarely find actual Poison-typed Pokemons that I like.

colours March 3rd, 2019 2:56 PM

Poison-types aren't really much of my thing to use.

alisaie March 4th, 2019 10:48 PM

It's have to be the fighting type for me. I think the only time I used a pure fighting type is Hitmonchan on Crystal and honestly I'm tempted to restart that file so does that even count?? Oh, and I suppose I did have a Hariyama during a Nuzlocke but it died :( Did kinda make me want to use one normally one day but yeah they're almost never on my team.

Wicked3DS March 5th, 2019 9:50 AM

It would definitely be Fairy-type for me. Besides Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Clefairy, most of the other ones I either don’t like or are just meh to me.

Aldo March 5th, 2019 10:04 AM

Haven't used Normal-type Pokémon besides Lillipup and Snorlax

janejane6178 March 5th, 2019 12:09 PM

Normal types (Not duel types). Except perfect Cinccino and Minccino <3

Sheep March 5th, 2019 5:33 PM

Fighting and bug, sadly. >.< A lot of the Pokémon in these types either are too weak or don't appeal much to me. =(

EmTheGhost March 5th, 2019 6:55 PM

...Now that I think of it, I hardly ever use Steel types on my "main" playthrough. The only example that comes to mind is Lucario in Y, and that was an outright gift (and doesn't "seem" like a Steel type). I wonder what the deal is?
Dark types have a bit of a lesser case - I used Liepard in Black and (N's) Zoroark in Black2, plus I used my Yveltal for some non-major battles (and snuggling) in Y, but that's it. Those Pokemon were pretty memorable to me, though, so I don't feel like I never use Dark types.

PageEmp March 5th, 2019 11:52 PM

I think I've used at least 4 or 5 mons of each type.

Avara March 6th, 2019 8:37 AM

I've genuinely never used a Fighting-type, ever. They just don't appeal to me and I've always done fine without one so I honestly forget it even exists sometimes! I also think I've only ever used a Psychic type once or twice, same with Normal (aside from the standard Normal/Flying bird).

Harmonie March 12th, 2019 5:24 AM

I don't think I've ever really used Bug or Poison types. Most of them don't have appealing designs, and their moves are generally weak, so they just aren't appealing to me in any way. I also don't end up using Grass Pokemon, even though I think they're cool.

MyUglyOne March 12th, 2019 5:42 PM

Rock is literally the only Pokemon type I cannot for the life of me ever remember using. I'm sure there must have been a duel type Rock Pokemon I've used at some point in my 20 years of playing these games but I really can't think of one lol

lilaë21 March 13th, 2019 3:35 PM

Usually Rock and Fighting (except for the Timburr line in BW), also I tend to use Fire little if I don't take that starter (and in fact it's the one I choose less often).

SupertrainerBaz March 15th, 2019 5:26 PM

I try to avoid dual type pokemon because I'm not that advanced. Definitely psychic type, I am definitely not in the correct environment for a pokemon of that much power!

Flowerchild March 29th, 2019 11:01 AM

In the main games I have zero use for poison, ghost, rock, or steel. A few others like fighting and bug I'll use but only if they're on a dual-typed mon with a more useful other type.

calenlily April 17th, 2019 5:09 PM

Rock, poison, and dragon I think I’ve used once each ever. Normal I pretty much only use when they’re dual-types or HM slaves. I didn’t used to use bug or ghost much but they’ve been growing on me lately. I rarely use grass in general, but I nearly always use the Rowlet line when I’m playing Gen 7.

SkyEmpress April 18th, 2019 6:24 AM

As main types, Bug, Fighting, rock, Ice

I only use those when it is paired with another type,

Reyzadren April 18th, 2019 10:42 PM

I never use normal types. Gotta get those super-effective moves.
