I wish older games were more easily accessible. I know a few of them are on the 3DS but most of my gaming time is now dedicated to Switch rather than 3DS...

Fairy May 10th, 2019 2:08 PM

I do play the older games! Provided I'm not too attached to my Pokemon to restart it, lol.

Bhima May 10th, 2019 2:27 PM

I sadly only play hackrom versions of the original games, but I sure do replay them a lot (Specially Crystal, as it's one of the few I haven't 100%'d completely)! I've loved the new editions though. I'm happy sometimes switching between generations :)

Palamon May 10th, 2019 4:31 PM

Yeah, actually. I've been playing Pokemon White 2 a lot lately, because I honestly don't like gen 6 & gen 7 is hard to pick up again once put down. I prefer the older Pokemon games from gen three to five, so those are the ones I usually revisit!

Sirfetch’d May 10th, 2019 8:20 PM

all of the time. I love the current generation games but they do tire me from time to time so I enjoy going back to some of the classics, mainly Crystal.

User Anon 1848 May 10th, 2019 9:04 PM

Almost exclusively. I'll always try to play through at least one game per gen but nothing from 6th or 7th gen really pull me back too often. I spend most of my time bouncing back between gens 2 and 4. I wish I could play gen 3 again but I no longer having anything that can play my GBA cartridges. I don't want to use emulators either.

One day I hope Game Freak/Nintendo create a Pokestation (they'd have to call it something else obviously) that has all of the games from gens 1-5 installed, pretty much exactly like the NES/SNES/PS-minis did with their collections. It'd be even better if they included the most popular spin-off titles like the PMD and TCG games. Not sure how trading would work though unless they were portable. I guess I just want a Switch powerful enough to run all the older games.

3DS era killed pokemon for me. I'm hoping Sword and Shield have actual content. Or difficulty. Been getting through my backlog which includes White 1 and 2, Blue, and Silver. I can safely say I miss Unova and wish most people didn't take it for granted.

The only Pokémon games I currently own are Red, Gold, and Silver. Two copies of Red, one of Gold (JP), and four of Silver (two US, two JP). Mainly for shells and MBCs to make flash carts from, though.

LatiasSoulDew May 12th, 2019 9:15 AM

Yes I do! I still play Gen 3 games and hacks a lot.

drizku May 12th, 2019 5:31 PM

yellow vc and crystal vc are my favs. I really wish i had someone to battle against or trade with, but its still lots of fun to play without those.

sad hologram May 13th, 2019 3:42 PM

i just went thru and replayed all of them yellow thru moon to re completely my living dex!!

moon May 14th, 2019 10:17 AM

Since I'm a sucker for nostalgia, I'll likely always come back and play Gen 2 every now and then. Those games just make me feel Good. And now I even have them on my 3DS. Thanks virtual shop!

only main series I haven't played is HGSS (and I guess DP but I've done Pt)

RBY I've started on numerous occasions but got bored grinding so there's that.

Gold
Ruby
Fire Red
Emerald
B
W2
Y (ew bacon birdo)
Omega Ruby
Sun, Moon
Platinum
UltraMoon
LGP

Planning on: HG, D, and Sw

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ May 18th, 2019 2:15 AM

Considering that I haven't bought a Pokemon game since Y, I only play older Pokemon games.

I mostly play through Leaf Green and Y since I have multiple cartridges of those two games and I like staring at - I mean, leading Leaf and Serena to ultimate victory and glory. Yeah... ultimate victory and glory... that's it...

(I would also play through Pearl and/or Platinum again, but I only have one copy of those games and I have an emotional attachment to my old game files on them, and can't bring myself to do a restart.)

RileyXY1 May 19th, 2019 5:15 AM

Yep. I still play the older games, especially HGSS, XY, and ORAS.

Mr. Slowpoke May 19th, 2019 8:13 AM

I’m playing Emerald for the first time ever. It’s been great.

bobandbill May 20th, 2019 11:40 AM

Not for a while, but I certainly have and will do so again. Played HGSS a bunch with monotype teams and can continue some runs. I replayed Blue and then Crystal on the 3DS via VC. I want to down the track play B2W2 again but on hard mode and with a grass monotype team.

MargatroidCA May 21st, 2019 7:46 PM

Oh yes, for sure! Not super often though, just every now and then I'll go back and attempt randomised runs or nuzlockes in the Gen IV and V games, and sometimes I'll even just do normal playthroughs of X/Y and OR/AS (though it's been a while).

I like playing older games sometimes.

Imperator161 June 6th, 2019 10:16 AM

I do, though hardware can be an issue at times. Despite the improvements and new features over the years, there’s something I still love about the first few generations (2 is my favorite, but I started with Red, and I love a lot of the gen 1 Pokémon). I regularly play gens 1 and 2 on my 3DS now, along with 7 and a bit of 6. I’ll occasionally return to 3-5, though I’ve been playing them less of late. Not to mention all of the spinoffs.

I tend to return to a lot of older games, though, not just Pokémon. I would love to continue to see releases of older titles on newer hardware to make everything more accessible.

Cid June 6th, 2019 3:26 PM

I would love to get the older games on Virtual Console. My oldest game at the moment is Pokémon X, because I still don't know where I stashed my old Game Boy and Japanese Pokémon Green.

When I do get them on VC, I'll for sure play them again. Pokémon never gets old, even the older ones. Especially the older ones.

edit: My oldest game at the moment is actually Pearl! My friend lent me his Pearl and I have yet to play it for him. I did play Diamond and Platinum ages ago, though.

ZeoStar June 8th, 2019 2:18 AM

I don't mind playing older games, but if I'm going back to an older generation I prefer trying Rom Hacks.

Janp June 8th, 2019 4:29 AM

To be completely honest I play older games all the time. I always do challenge runs in them. I finished Randomized Nuzlocke in Fire Red few days ago, doing another 'locke runs in Black 2 and Omega Ruby and even more. But I tend to pick FRLF and HGSS over RBY and GSC, because they are much more fun to play. I bought Red on VC and it was hell to play.

Firebolt June 8th, 2019 4:35 AM

Does soft-resetting count as 'playing'? 😄

Been trying to soft reset for a shiny Celebi for about nine months now (on and off; admittedly more off than on though). Then I plan on soft-resetting for shiny Ho-Oh, Lugia, and the legendary dogs. It's not the best of fun, but it's exciting to think that I could potentially own Hidden Ability shiny forms of the latter ones with the perfect natures. I did actually enjoy very much playing through my childhood region, and I'm excited to finish the Kanto map once my soft-reset adventure is out of the way.

Autumn94 June 12th, 2019 12:21 AM

Yeah I love going back and playing the older games again, they're a lot of fun :)
