Got a start on the next Gen to knock down in my Ultimate Bug: EMERALD TIME!
Grabbed Mudkip, because as it turns out, I can just give that sucked all of the Water HMs. I think the only other one I needed was Rock Smash, but a Zigzagoon can get that. Rushed up to May, and then back down to get my Shoes. Oh, and whatever else I was supposed to get (the shoes are the real good thing here). I actually planned this one out, and I need a Wurmple to get a Beautifly. Which means I get to have the fun of catching a Wurmple, training it to 7, hoping it evolves into a Silcoon. Oh, and it has to be male. Because it's going to be used for breeding for an Egg Move. I could use a Dustox for the moment, but out of the 7 Bug mons I can get, Dustox....dusn't compare to the rest. So, I'm deciding to skip it. First one I caught evolved to Cascoon. So, I just used that one to farm. Took about 10 more catches before lucking out and having it evolve to Silcoon. And with a tearful farewell, I got rid of my Cascoon. Wat...I didn't want clutter. I pushed through Route 102, fighting all of the trainers. Poison Sting is ridiculously nice against Lotad when they show up. The sole trainer that stinks here is the one with Taillow. Because that jerk knows Peck. I ended up grinding up to level 10 so I'd evolve. Then I spammed Harden while fighting that trainer's Poochyena, using Absorb (thank you L10 learnset) to stay alive. Taillow didn't stand a chance. I do the scene with Wally, then move into Southern Route 104. I defeated all three trainers, though looking at Lady Cindy, I wish I could snag the Nugget. :D I ended up stopping just short of entering Petalburg Woods. This should be fun. https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/8/8c/Spr_3e_267.png L11 M Beautifly Tackle String Shot Absorb Poison Sting Harden |
Alright, slowly approaching the end of my AS Steel run, only 1 more badge to get. Flannery was actually pretty tough, I was only able to make it through with Olmec the Nosepass. After Flannery I headed up to that super ashy route (Don't remember it's name lol) and caught Heracles the Skarmory, my last mon for a pretty long time. Norman wasn't too difficult, but I was underleveled so there was some challenge there. Winona was obviously easy, I have tons of rock type moves. Battles with Team Aqua aren't too bad as long as Screwball the Magneton is alive... if he isn't? It's a yikes. Tate and Liza weren't too hard except for the random trainer with Medicham and Claydol. My team is way underlevel tho, only at level 40 so I'll have to do some grinding before taking on Kyogre

Time for a new update! At last!
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun. 4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 6: Battling at the Lakes! So after I got the Riolu, I didn't play that much due to being busy, but at least I started the game some days to get Riolu the massage at Veilstone. This made the evolution very easy when I came back to the game more seriously, at level 9 I had a Lucario! After giving Lucario the Exp. Share, I entered Canalave City gym. Steel-types are not threatening to Fighting-types, and this made Byron the easiest gym ever! Heracross beat Magneton with a single Brick Break, Infernape destroyed Steelix with Fire Blast, and a critical Revenge from Toxicroak in his attempt to use Metal Burst was enough to deal with Bastiodon. 6 badges! After this it was time to go to the different lakes to fight Team Galaxy. In Lake Valor I witnessed this funny scene which I didn't remember from the game! https://i.imgur.com/LEd7VHZ.png Saturn was my foe at that very Lake. Gallade easily took down Golbat with Psycho Cut, Infenape destroyed Bronzor, and Heracross with a single Aerial Ace beat Toxicroak. And Mars battle in Lake Verity was almost identical, with Golbat and Bronzor falling the same way and Machoke taking Purugly down easily with Cross Chop. After these easy battles I went through Mt. Coronet to try to reach Snowpoint City. It was annoying because I needed some HMs and Heracross was out of the team during these routes. Anyways, these fights took Lucario to a decent level, so now he is fully usable! On this path as well Machoke evolved into Machamp! I remembered that when I started this game 2 years ago I had hacked Machoke's evolution level, but I didn't remember which one I chose. It was lv 42. So finally my team is fully evolved! At Snowpoint City I battled for my seventh badge. I loved the gym puzzle of this gym, didn't remember it very well and it is very original. So, battle with Candice for the seventh badge! Ice should be no problem, right? Lucario stood an Aerial Ace from Sneasel easily and destroyed it with Aura Sphere. Machamp took severe damage from Piloswine’s Earthquake but beat it with a Cross Chop attack. Froslass started a Double Team party vs Heracross. I missed a few times with Shadow Claw but the first one that hit triggered her Sitrus Berry and the second one was a critical, so no damage taken! Finally, Infernape calcinated Abomasnow with Flamethrower! So the seventh badge is mine! Now that Rock Climb is usable outside of battle I can finally go to Lake Acuity. There my rival lost to Team Galactic. Their HQ are in Veilstone, so that's my next destination, after exploring the world a bit more with the new HM I got, of course! But this is a topic to talk about in the next update! Current Team: Spoiler:

Hello!
After stalking these forums for quite a while, I've decided to join and do a monotype run on Ultra Sun! So the details are: Forum User Name: GladeGaming Game(s): Ultra Sun Pokémon Type: Flying Single/Ultimate: Single. I'll be updating it as I go! Cheers for getting me into these types of challenges and bringing back my love for Pokemon. Edit: After giving it a long thought I've decided to change from monotype grass to monotype flying. Seems a bit more fun as there is a lot more variety. Update 1: Started the game, spoke with every single NPC. Got a Rowlet as a first pokemon since it's a grass/flying type (I have no intention of using it further down the road). Defeated Hau easilly, rescued Nebby and made everyone awe at my splendor. Eventually caught a caterpie and went through the lovely grind to get her to evolve to a Butterfree. Same for a Pipipek which evolved to a Trumbeak. Again two pokemons which are not on the "endgame" list. With these 2 pokemon, I've done Hao'li city and the 1st trial with no issues. On route 3, I finnaly captured one of my first main pokemons which was a Hawlucha (Male with Unburden). Grinded him to 16 and beat the big Kahuna without needing to use a Z Power and even a potion. Moving on to Akala island, I absolutely destroyed the Water trial with Supersonic Sky Strike and Bounce and caught myself a magikarp which I leveled to 20 by backtracking and defeating trainers that I missed. Funny how that useless little carp became on of the biggest powerhouses in my team. Gyarados, with a bold nature and the ability intimidate, relying on Bite and Water Pulse, defeated Marowak and the fire trial with no issues whatsoever. Once the fire trial was over, I caught myself a Fletchling which evolved in no time to Flechinder. I intend to have him as a sort of defensive tank by having him rely on Flame Body + Roost and Bulk Up further on. Together we tackled the grass trial once he was 25, which was a bit of a pain due to Flame Charge not doing that much damage and confee using flower shield on the totem Lurantis. Thankfully with roost and flame charge, we eventually took that down as well without relying on any potions. So, this is my current team at the moment: Hawlucha (M) - 28 Item: Flyinium Z Nature: Mild Moveset: Sky Drop, Flying Press, Hone Claws, Roost. Gyarados (M) - 26 Item: Leftovers Nature: Bold Ability: Intimidate Moveset: Bounce, Water Pulse, Bite, Iron Tail. Flechinder (M) - 26 Item: Firium Z Nature: Gentle Ability: Flame Body Moveset: Flame Charge, Peck, Agility, Roost. GladeGaming |
Can I finish a game without losses? ...
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun. 4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 7: Saving the world! Giratina!! After exploring the world with Rock Climb, and getting a few TMs, I went to Team Galactic HQ in Veilstone. There I fought every single grunt before arriving at the boss of Team Galactic, Cyrus! Sneasel was easy for Machamp. Next up was Crobat. He used Supersonic vs my Gallade, but my Pokémon didn’t hit himself and knocked out the bat with a single Psycho Cut! Finally, Lucario beat the lv 46 Honchkrow (3 levels stronger than my Pokémon) with Aura Sphere + Close Combat, taking a lot of damage from Drill Peck. Little after Cyrus I battled Saturn to free the three pixies! Golbat was destroyed with 2 Flamethrowers, and Infernape easily beat the Bronzor as well. Finally, Toxicroak fell to a single Psycho Cut from Gallade. After this fight I knew I had to go to Mt. Coronet, and that there I needed HMs... So I took Toxicroak out of the team to add Bibarel, sadly, and made my way through the mountain, again battling everyone. At the peak of Mt. Coronet I had a pretty tough fight vs Mars and Jupiter. They set up both screens with their Bronzor and I couldn’t break them with Lucario, so I sent Heracross to use Brick Break. I beat one of the Bronzor but Golbat was threatening and I sent Infernape and then Gallade. Both fell but took care of the Golbat and the Skuntank (the rival’s Munchlax helped with Body Slam), so after this it was a 2 v 1 fight, and easy to win with Lucario. Bronzor was already almost dead so a single Aura Sphere was enough, then Purugly fell to Close Combat and Golbat to Psychic + a Body Slam from Munchlax. After the fight Cyrus attempted to use the Red Chain to gain control of Palkia and Dialga, but Giratina appeared and took him to the Distortion World! https://i.imgur.com/CH21FYk.png I went inside with Cynthia, to save the world! After a long exploration, I reached Cyrus, who was willing to fight again. Houndoom vs Machamp. I stood the Flamethrower and beat it with Revenge. Next up was Crobat. I hit him with Psychic, but in the next turn he switch out to Honchkrow! He survived my Aura Sphere and beat my weakened Lucario with Drill Peck. Infernape finished it off with Close Combat. Then he sent a Gyarados! Now I miss my Toxicroak haha. Although it has Earthquake. The Gyarados, with Waterfall, Earthquake and Ice Fang, swept my team, and I lost. So yeah. First loss of the run. I didn't want to rely on Revives, so took risks and it didn't pay off. I made a few preparations, mainly I taught Infernape ThunderPunch, and swapped Heracross for Toxicroak. So second try! (not before getting lost at the Distortion World, though xD) Infernape destroyed the Houndoom with Close Combat, and he went for Gyarados straight away. I didn’t want to eat the Intimidate, so I sent Toxicroak. It survived the Earthquake with 10 HP, but not the Ice Fang that came right after it. He weakened Gyara with Poison Jab and Sucker Punch, though, so Infernape finished it off with ThunderPunch! https://i.imgur.com/ZNmaUAk.png Crobat was next, so I again sent Lucario. This time his Air Slash made me flinch twice, forcing me to heal. At least after the second flinch I outsped him, thanks to Steadfast. I finally beat it with 2 Psychics (he didn’t switch out this time!) Honchkrow was next, and it survived my Close Combat, destroying Lucario with Psychic. I sent Machamp to beat it with Ice Punch, but he hit me with a critical Drill Peck :(. So Infernape had to finish the job himself, with Thunderpunch. Finally, Weavile’s Fake Out triggered my Gallade’s Steadfast, so I outsped it and destroyed it with Drain Punch. At last! Cyrus fell! https://i.imgur.com/Hpw6MiP.png After this I went to fight Giratina. Back when I was a kid, I remember catching this Pokémon was a nightmare, even though I absolutely loved (and still do) the battle theme. I remember it well, I was at my grandfather's house and there I spent the whole morning trying to catch Giratina xD. This time around, though, after suffering some big damage in my team to put him in red, the second Dusk Ball caught it. :) After this I went to the nearest Pokémon Center in Veilstone (didn't have Fly in my team) and saved my game. Next update we'll go for the final badge! Current Team: Spoiler:

Alright, this one is sort of a double post. I'm both ending my AS run and starting my B2 run. After Tate and Liza I took down Kyogre with Screwball the Magneton, and evolved Panzer into an Aggron. Most of Wallace's mons were easy to take down, except for Whiscash which was actually difficult, had to use Heracles the Skarmory to actually hurt it. Taking down Wallace is fantastic for me though, because I can finally get to New Mauville and evolve Screwball into Magnezone, then Olmec into Probopass. This is as big as my team gets though, so I'm ready to take on the Elite Four Sidney is laughably easy, since a lot of his mons have secondary typings I can demolish. Phobe was probably the most difficult of the Elite Four. Took me 3 tries to actually take her out, since the only super effective move I have is Night Slash on Heracles, and her team has a lot of coverage. Glacia is a joke for my team obviously, next. Drake was pretty tough. Altaria and Salamence can be taken out with rock type moves, but the rest of his team is rough! I had to do some heal spamming to make it through and whittle them down. Finally, Steven. Yikes this fight was difficult! First of all, I drastically underestimated his teams levels. My highest level was only at around 54 or 55. Aggron, Cradily and Armaldo were pretty easy to take out, but the rest were nuts. I had no way to kill Skarmory, so I just had to slowly kill it as it set up and whittled me down. For Claydol, I had to surf it down with Panzer and just hope it's Earth Power doesn't instakill me. Metagross was last up, and I sac'd both Heracles and Screwball to revive Panzer and Olmec to desperately try to Earthquake it down. I ended up living with Olmec at 24 health. Overall, a fun run, maybe a little lacking in diversity, but now onto B2
Now I'm gonna kinda go through B2 pretty fast. Picked Oshawott as my starter and nabbed Vegeta the Riolu in Flocessy Ranch. Cheren was easy after getting Force Palm. After that, I grab Magneto the Magnemite and then take out Roxie using op early game Sonic Boom. After beating Plasma in the Sewers I caught Bottles the Drilbur. After taking out Burgh, Vegeta evolved into Lucario and Elesa got taken out pretty easily. That's all for now, new updates probably pretty soon |

Macho's Grounded Johto Journeys. Part 3:
So this was a strange one, picking up where i left off i was a bit underlevelled and steelix was still level 7. got him up to level 20 through battling as many trainers as i could. beat the gym easy enough, along with: VS Silver this one was fairly easy, steelix took out gastly with rock throw after a curse, then switched out for Quagsire against Magnemite, mud shot took it down in one hit. Steelix took out zubat and quagsire came back in to finish off quilava. after the trainers, Morty was far too tough for me. gengar swept my whole team. so i ignored him and went onto olivine, training up as i went. climbed the lighthouse and met Jasmine, Geodude evolved and Nidorino learned horn attack, so i thought nows as good a time as any for that moon stone. and Nidoking ahoy. Went back to face: VS Leader Morty Steelix took down gastly, tried to do something against gengar but missed a rock tomb and got 2 shot by shadow ball. took out Nidoking with hypnosis and some shadow balls too. then i had an epiphany, Quagsire recently learned amnesia. took a shadow ball, amnesia, another one, amnesia, a third, amnesia, healed up. he annoyed me a bit with hypnosis but 4 surfs finally put him down, stayed in against haunter, it cursed me and died to surf, killing me in the process. last was Graveler against Haunter, hypnosis was annoying, but he wasted a turn using nightmare when using dream eater twice wouldve KOd me, on turn 3 i woke up, used rock blast and hit 1,2,3 times and finished the fight...just barely. So, to start with: In LeafGreen, you cannot get any Psychic types before the 1st gym.
Brock - dispatched quickly with my Bulbasaur. Rival 2 - caught a Geodude to clear him out the way. Once I found one, I caught my first Psychic type, an Abra. I'm not very good at coming up with nicknames, so I shall leave his name unchanged for now. If you can think of names, please do tell me. I wasn't exactly clear on the rules, so please forgive me for this, but I switch trained this Abra up to level 14, used the 2 available Rare Candies on it and then it evolved into Kadabra. From that point onwards, I only used Kadabra until I got through Route 25, spoke to Bill, went down to Route 11 and caught my next Pokemon, a Drowzee. Again, bad with nicknames so none for now. I got them both up to Level 21 through grinding and using the last available Rare Candy on Kadabra. Now that my preparation is complete, I went to face the Gym. The 2 trainers in the gym were swept with my Drowzee, so they were no problem. I may have beaten those 2 trainers with ease, but I was worried about Misty's Starmie, so I bought some potions and status items (even though I technically didn't need them, but they're nice to have) Now for the main event: VS Misty I was slightly afraid of Misty's Starmie going into this fight, due to it also being part Psychic, making it resistant to other Psychic type moves. It turns out that I didn't need to worry. Round 1: Kadabra vs Staryu Staryu went down to a single Psybeam. Huh. Thought that would have taken a bit more. Anyways, time for the Pokemon I'd been dreading: Round 2: Kadabra vs Starmie I hit her Starmie with a Psybeam, the strongest move on my Kadabra at the moment, but it took only about 1/4 of its health away. It retaliates with a Water Pulse, taking out a considerable chunk of my health and confusing me first try. Because of course it did Went for another Psybeam. Got lucky and hit with it, taking it to yellow health. Starmie goes for a Swift this time. Due to Kadabra's physical defense being abysmal, he takes a lot of damage, dropping to 9 HP. Go for one more Psybeam. Somehow, it hits through the confusion again AND CRITS, KNOCKING IT OUT! I was entirely sure I'd be losing Kadabra on that turn and was prepared to switch over to Drowzee, but I guess not. And with that, I now have 2 Kanto badges. The journey to become an Ultimate Champion begins now. Sorry if these posts turn out to be boring, I'm not exactly a wordsmith. |
Busy with my job, it's been a while since my last update. But I have played a bit so let's show I am still alive with this with a small update!
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun. 4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 8: An electrifying battle! So, all I had to do now after catching Giratina and beating Team Galactic was getting the eighth badge! Before that, I went to catch Uxie and Azelf (too lazy to go for Mesprit as well). Uxie was relatively easy, but Azelf wasn't, it required a few resets, but in the end I caught it. With all that done, I went to Sunyshore City for the last badge. After speaking with the E4 member, and talking to Volkner in the Lighthouse, I explored the water route above me, to train a little before the battle, and then I challenged the gym! I made a few preparations, most notably, I taught Toxicroak Earthquake to have the move in the team and hurt Electric-types. So, battle with Volkner; Toxicroak VS Jolteon! My strategy soon got shattered into pieces, as my Pokémon couldn’t beat Jolteon with one Earthquake, and after a Hyper Potion and a Charge Beam which raised his Special Attack, he got a crit with the next Charge Beam and destroyed Toxicroak. Heracross finished the Jolteon off. Then I was the lucky one, as Machamp destroyed Luxray with a single critical Cross Chop! This was important, as all my Pokémon are male, so his Luxray with the ability Rivalry was dangerous. Gallade fell to Electivire (I expected him to survive after the Drain Punch I used, but it was not the case and ThunderPunch took me down). However, he got weakened enough to be destroyed with Infernape’s Close Combat. I did the same vs Raichu. With Focus Blast + Quick Attack he beat Lucario, but suffered damage, so Infernape’s Close Combat finished the battle! Yes! 8 badges! After this fight I got the HM07, which I taught to Bibarel, and got ready for the Victory Road. Again leaving Heracross behind :(. So next update, hopefully I won't take too long and will talk about the Victory Road and probably the first try vs Elite Four (I assume it's gonna be really hard to beat it in one try with this team...) Current Team: Spoiler:
Number of Badges: 8. Current Location: Sunyshore City. Number of losses: 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: I have kept going, and challenged the E4! The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun. 4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 9: A Psychic nightmare! Having now all the badges, I went to Victory Road, which was mostly easy, an annoying double battle vs Staraptor and Ambipom was the only struggle. The fact that the last trainer before the end of the cave has Gible and Swablu is quite funny... Before challenging the E4, I had to fight my rival. Staraptor as always was a problem. He beat Lucario with a Close Combat. He was weakened with Aura Sphere, however, so Infernape easily finished the job.Heracross returned to the team and destroyed Empoleon easily with Close Combat. As Rapidash used Sunny Day, my Infernape with ThunderPunch + Close Combat destroyed it. Snorlax was easy with another Close Combat from Heracross. And then it was Heracross VS Heracross! Same level as well! Fortunately mine was faster and beat the opponent with a single Aerial Ace. Finally, still in Sunny Day conditions, my Infernape destroyed Roserade with Flamethrower. Some preparations were made before E4! I grinded everyone up to lv 54, and I taught my Pokémon a few new moves and changed some held items. However, I made a mistake, as I thought Machamp’s Payback was a level up move, and it wasn’t, so no way to remember it, sadly... :/ With all this done, it was time to start the E4 challenge! Aaron was first. Infernape easily destroyed Yanmega. Next up was Drapion. I sent Toxicroak. He forced me to heal, as his Sitrus Berry healed him and his Aerial Aces did some damage, but in the end with Earthquake my Pokémon prevailed. Finally, Infernape destroyed both Scizor and Vespiquen with Flamethrower, and again, in the Heracross VS Heracross battle, mine won with Aerial Ace. https://i.imgur.com/jyhGpLH.png Bertha was next! My Heracross started with a crit Brick Break and destroyed the Whiscash. Gliscor left my Machamp with 11 HP after 2 Earthquakes, but even though she healed, my Ice Punches ended up beating her Pokémon. As I have Choice Specs on Infernape, Hippowdon was easy, a single Grass Knot was enough! And the same fate awaited to Golem and Rhyperior, so Bertha was defeated! Next up was Flint! My Machamp easily endured Houndoom’s Flamethrower before beating it with Revenge. Rapidash’s Bounce left me with 1 HP! He endured my Rock Slide as well, and then we both healed. He went for Sunny Day and SolarBeam, I don’t know why, so I had an easy time using Rock Slide and Revenge. And then battle of the Infernapes! Same level as well! https://i.imgur.com/eH1BiNj.png His was faster and went for Earthquake, while I used Close Combat. Both survived, and then he went for Mach Punch, leaving me with 5 HP! So my final Close Combat finished the job! Magmortar was next. He survived my Infernape’s Close Combat and took it down, and then outsped Toxicroak and destroyed it with Hyper Beam. Fortunately, Gallade with Psycho Cut finished him off. And another miracle against his last Pokémon, Flareon! My Machamp survived his Overheat with 1 HP, and OHKOed it with Revenge! https://i.imgur.com/1gu8vTO.png Time for the scariest fight of the game so far, a Psychic-type specialist in the E4, Lucian! Mr. Mime managed to set up Light Screen, before falling to Heracross’ Shadow Claw. Next up was Espeon. He beat Gallade with 2 Shadow Ball, which is a problem, as with Lucario he is my only Pokémon neutral to Psychic attacks. Fortunately, he was weakened, so Toxicroak with Sucker Punch finished it off. And good timing, his Light Screen finished, and he sent Bronzong, so my Infernape had a free kill there with Flamethrower. Alakazam was next. He survived my Toxicroak’s Sucker Punch with barely any HP, and after he healed he survived Heracross’ Shadow Claw as well with almost no HP! He then swept my team with Psychic and Focus Blast for Lucario. So I lost. I saved the game and began thinking of ways to deal with this tough opponent. Current Team: Spoiler:

Been a while - almost a month. I had a new position pull me in for Real Life, so I'm kind of learning to juggle that, first and foremost. It's all good - just puts a little bit slower push to my runs here.
So, as of the start of this update, I had a level 13 Beautifly, having swapped Gust in overtop of Harden. But I'm here in Rustboro, having very quickly moved my way through Petalburg. And that means GYM TIME! Honestly, I know I have Absorb, so it's not going to be super hard. But I'm going to do as much grinding as I can, so every trainer is going to lose to me. Younger Josh's Geodude goes down to one Absorb. Of course, having just walked straight up to him, he's now blocking the way after the battle. Have to walk down and around to get to Tommy. I click a little too fast and use Tackle, but he uses Mud Sport in response. Interestingly, Tackle did about 1/3 of the Geodude's health. One use of Absorb later = knocked out Geodude and Level 14. Another use of Absorb = battle over. Rinse and repeat for the Geodude for the Hiker. Honestly, is this a gym or just a get together for Geodude? "Would you demonstrate how you battle with...Bugs?" Roxanne. Geodude L12 comes out, and Absorb knocks it down to like 2 HP. However, it retaliates with Rock Throw, taking me all the way down to 1 HP. Yay. Roxanne uses a Potion, and I use absorb. I'm back up to 12 HP. This isn't good. However, I do get to level 15 from knocking it out. Seeing how close I was to defeating the Geodude the first time gives me hope that the level will give me the boost in stats to knock out THIS new Geodude in a OHKO... ...which it thankfully does. I'm only up to 30 HP, though. Pulling up Bulbapedia, I feel a little relief seeing Nosepass only has Tackle and Rock Tomb, so I might pull this off...but I use Absorb and it only takes him down to about 80%, and then I die in one hit. Just great. My first thought is to go for Stun Spore at level 17 and see if that helps with the Nosepass. But it's then that I remember that Route 116 is just north-east, and I can pick up a Nicada there. That's my next Bug-type on the journey, and it has the added benefit of learning Sand Attack at 9. A few battles and there it is, and at Level 7. I pick it up and off we go to level it up. I plan on getting it up to level 12 or 13 before trying Roxanne again. However, it's already late by the time I got started, so I didn't get too far. https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/8/8c/Spr_3e_267.png L16 M Beautifly Tackle Absorb String Shot Poison Sting Gust Harden https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/a/a9/Spr_3e_290.png L09 M Nincada Scratch Harden Leech Life Sand-Attack |
Important update! Let's go!!
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun. 4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 10: Step by step going further! Last update, I played vs the E4 for the first time and lost to Lucian. So I went back to Lucian, with very easy 3 battles before him, doing mostly the same as before, with a few changes now that I fully know their teams, to make the battles easier (I didn’t lose a single Pokémon). For Lucian I gave Toxicroak the BlackGlasses and Heracross a Spell Tag, hopefully Alakazam can die now. So again, Heracross vs Mr. Mime. This time the first Shadow Claw was enough. Heracross leveled up and learnt Megahorn, so no Shadow Claw now (at least Spell Tag secured the ko on Mr. Mime I guess). Espeon was next. Heracross survived the Psychic with 1 HP! … but missed the Megahorn and died to Quick Attack. I sent Gallade, and put him in red. However, as his Shadow Ball was going to beat me, I had to send Lucario to take it. Unfortunately, after this he went for a crit Psychic, beating Lucario. Toxicroak with Sucker Punch finished off this nightmare of an Espeon. Nothing to say on Bronzong vs Infernape, it was the same outcame as before. Alakazam was next! This time Sucker Punch, thanks to BlackGlasses, was enough! So just Gallade remained. I sent my burnt Machamp, who stood the Psycho Cut and hit him with Revenge, before falling to the burn damage. Infernape was my option, and it worked! He survived the Psycho Cut with very little HP, and with 2 Flamethrowers beat the Gallade after the heal! I guess the Choice Specs + Blaze boost helped here. So finally!! Lucian beaten! https://i.imgur.com/DZlLxUI.png So, the final challenge, Cynthia! Spritomb vs Infernape! Psychic did a lot, but Flamethrower destroyed the ghost with 2 hits. Next up was Milotic. She allowed me to set up 2 Swords Dances with Gallade, going for Mirror Coat and Surf, and then my Close Combat killed. Togekiss was next. Sadly it outsped and beat Gallade with Air Slash. Now I am in trouble, this mon is annoying for my team. She outsped and beat Lucario with a single Aura Sphere, and then survived Heracross’ Close Combat and koed me with Air Slash. My Infernape beat it with Close Combat. And now, Garchomp… She beat my Machamp with a few Dragon Rushes. She never missed, and in the turn she went for Flamethrower, I took the gamble of not healing and Dragon Rush beat me. Ice Punch didn’t do enough. She then swept Toxicroak and Infernape with Earthquake, so I lost, AGAIN! ...... But I was not going to give up! I got back there, with similar battles to before, and I repeated my strategy from before, beating Togekiss, Spiritomb and Milotic the same way, only losing Heracross this time in the process, and again, Garchomp was her next Pokémon. But I had an ace up my sleeve. My Machamp was burnt, so Guts was activated! Thanks Flint! Now I stood the Dragon Rush from her, and a single Ice Punch destroyed the Dragon! I have been wishing all the run I had No Guard instead of Guts, but I can't say I reject Guts now! Roserade was next, and it was an easy kill for Gallade with Psycho Cut, enduring her Sludge Bomb. So time for her last Pokémon, Lucario!! https://i.imgur.com/vKR9n1l.png Now, Lucario Vs Lucario, hers was faster and killed mine with Aura Sphere (seriously, my Lucario has been total trash in the Pokémon League) She also beat my Toxicroak while I healed Infernape, who was damaged. I didn’t want to risk the ExtremeSpeed range and lose this. I sent Infernape and destroyed Lucario with Close Combat! SO I AM THE CHAMPION! And NO REVIVES were used during battles. Here is the Hall of Fame!! https://i.imgur.com/44XxM8K.png https://i.imgur.com/i2mgNPn.png Challenge is not over, though, as I’ll do the same as with Sigma Emerald and HeartGold, I’ll go for the E4 rematches now, not before exploring the places the National Dex opens and taking the ship in Snowpoint City! I have learnt though that E4 rematches are very underwhelming, with Pokémon having just higher levels but the exact same movesets... Will still go for them, though. Current Team: Spoiler:

I think I remembered exactly why I don't like Sun and Moon. It takes an eternity to just get past Melemele because you get stopped every 10 seconds. But anyway, after getting to Akala, apparently not saving the game, and then ending up back at pre Hau 3, I finally got back to making progress on the run and got further than when I forgot to save. I'm on the road to the Grass trial on Akala Island, and oh boy, I cannot wait until this Wingull finally evolves. Wingull is actually terrible until it evolves. Also, whoever in the dev team figured it was a good idea to leave the Scald TM on Brooklet Hill has basically allowed me to partially break the game because Scald.

Ayo! Time for an update:
Updated the OP to post #161. Added End Point and Optional End Point for Gen 8 For the moment, I'm not going to include Gen 8 in an ultimate challenge, I know it's a main series pokemon game but they've made the switch (no pun) from Handhelds to a conventional console (yes I know it can be a handheld but still). Therefore Ultimate challenges at least for now will remain Generations 1-7. (You can do Gen 8 if you want) |
They're doing a fairy type run though. Doesn't that require only those specific regions?

Challenge type: Ultimate Pokémon type: Ghost Game(s): Fire Red, Soul Silver, Alpha Sapphire, Platinum, White, Y, Moon, Shield I'm gonna hack in a lvl 5 ghastly to start with in firered. not sure about doing this yet: use Gen 2/3 ghosts one new pokemon per gym. |
Forum User Name: Lugiafan123
Game(s): Firered, Soulsilver, Emerald, Platinum, White 2, Y, Ultra moon Pokemon Type: Ice Single/Ultimate: Ultimate My first ever ultimate run. Have done single runs before but never posted them on the forum. It stood between mono-water ghost or ice. Water felt too easy and ghost would feel horrible up until gen 4. Now onto some questions since this will be my first ever ultimate run. First question is are there any games that have ice types before gym 2 apart from Y? Question 2 is if I plan to get regice in emerald do I have to catch the wailord as a wailord for the puzzle or can I catch a wailmer and evolve it if I only intend to use the wailord to open the path to regice. Same goes for any other pokemon I might need for puzzles and the like? One more thing is I'm probably not gonna start the run until after christmas. |
Q1: Gen 7 you can get Crabrawler before second kahuna. every other gen is after gym 2.
Q2: You should be fine. That should count as using those pokemon as hm slaves. |

Ultimate ghost monotype Firered Progress Update:
I started this run with a lvl 1 ghastly only had access to lick and hypnosis in routes with mostly normal types so...many...pidgeys *sobs in corner* spent time in viridian forest licking everything that moved until I learned curse which let me deal with normal types in a painfully slow way. Brock was easy most of the pokemon only used defence curl or tackle which i'm immune to. Until i got to onyx which had rock tomb I had to put it to sleep and let curse kill it. Mt moon wasn't too bad i had night shade which dealt with zubats and i had curse to deal with the occasional rattata from rocket grunts. Cerulian city since I'm only running ghastly it reached lvl 25 and turned into haunter which i then turned into gengar with shadow punch misty was a cake walk Blue on the other hand sucked my only way of dealing with both his rattata and pidgeotto was to use confuse ray/curse and let them kill themselves Found secret power in route 25 which gave me a reliable way to deal with normal types the rest of the game should be a breeze. Finally i beat Lt surge his gym puzzle is annoying as ever but the fight itself was easy. I'm now going into rock tunnel with a lvl 38 gengar who should be renamed one punch man. |
Ultimate Dragon Monotype in Pokémon Platinumhttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/platinum/normal/altaria.pnghttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/platinum/normal/garchomp-f.pngFINAL PARTBut it was breeze after that. Especially after getting Gible and Veilstone Game Corner's TMs. Last obstacles were Bertha and Cynthia. Bertha is my usual run stopper and this time, it was no different. Her Rhyperior and Gliscor were able to counter my dragons, but I was able to beat them with the combination of speed, revives and Ice-beams. Cynthia was probably easier out of the two as the only problem I had was for my Dragon Rush to hit and her to miss. Overall, I had fun this run. Garchomp is overpowered as ever and Altaria helped with more coverage. And here's the Hall of Fame: Spoiler:
As for the Unova portion, I'll hack in Deino as my starter, since if my memory serves me well, there is no dragon prior the 2nd Gym. Teamhttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/platinum/normal/altaria.pngDan, Lax Male Altaria lvl 63, Natural Cure @NeverMeltIce - Dragon Pulse - Flamethrower - Ice Beam - Fly https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/platinum/normal/garchomp-f.png Deni, Sassy Female Garchomp lvl 63, Sand Veil @Sitrus Berry - Dragon Rush - Sandstorm - Slash - Earthquake |

In terms of HM slaves and pokemon needed for other pokemon to evolve or become obtainable, For example needing a wailord for Regice, it's perfectly fine to catch and train as long as you don't use them in story progression battles. |

Quick update on my white 2 run, I'm trying to get a Metagross before the elite 4, so thats on hold.
But for my pearl steel monotype, its kind hard. I have a prinplup about to evolve and I only beat the second gym, and I caught a bronzor at wayward cave. You can only get six steel pokemon in Pearl pre-post-game; Empoleon, Bronzong, Steelix, Lucario, Wormadam trash, and Bastiodon. Three of them are obtained in other methods than just catching them. Honey trees, mining underground, and hatching an egg. Should I do the other options to have a full team? or do you think 3 pokemon will be enough? let me know! Thx |

~~~ Aaaaaand it's time to get this hot garbage over with. The run continues! Forum User Name: ddrox13 Game(s): FireRed, StormSilver, Emerald, Diamond, Black 2, Y, Sun, Shield Pokémon Type: Grass Single/Ultimate: Ultimate (Cont'd) The Grass-type continues its long and arduous march through yet another region of pain and suffering. This time: Galar. As every region must have a way to thoroughly screw over the Grass type (as is tradition), Galar does so with character selection. Holy carp the new Grassies are AWFUL on paper. This region's Grass offerings are: a slow pure-grass without the defenses to make up for it in Rillaboom, a fun and unique type combo that looks fast but isn't really (and is locked to the wrong version) in Flapple, Applin's slower evolution who absolutely doesn't have the defenses to justify it in Appletun, and of course worse Whimsicott aka Gossifleur. Thankfully, the OTHER Grass-types native to Galar's rolling hills are among the best. Cherrim offers sun-related options to work with Solarbeam spam and Chlorophyll users like Vileplume, Ludicolo brings much-needed Water coverage, Abomasnow provides a Hail option for full spectrum weather shenanigans, Whimsicott is still better Gossifleur, and Roserade is, well, Roserade. Also the game itself provided a HUGE unintentional buff to the Grass-type in the form of the Stone-evolution movepool changes. Starting in gen 7, stone evolutions retain the entire movepool of their pre-evolution starting at level 0 - and in gen 8, the reminder being in the first town means you have access to these really early on. That, combined with the Wild Area granting pre-gym-1 access to every single evolution stone, means you can get incredibly strong very early with those stone evos. And in case you missed it, Ludicolo, Whimsicott, Vileplume, AND Roserade all fall into this camp - and though Cottonee is mostly locked behind gym 3, you can get all of these prior to gym 1. As of this post I've played through 3 gyms, including having Lucicolo, 'Plume, and Roserade before Motostoke I. Hydro Pump hits like a truck before the first gym. My current team is a rotating squad of 8, which includes (in order of capture): Taiko the Thwakey (starter) Pistachio the Ludicolo (rt. 2) Erica the Cherrim (Wild Area: Rolling Fields) Flora the Roserade (Wild Area: North Lake Miloch) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Wild Area: Max Raid) Flute the Gossifleur (Rt. 3) Oboe the Appletun (Wild Area: Giant's Mirror) Erufuun the Whimsicott (Wild Area: Max Raid) Reserves: Pinetree the Snover, Pecan the Ferroseed (both from Raids) Currently Flute and Erica are on the bench because I don't need pure-grass now, but any of those 10 could see use thanks to candies being OP. |
After 7 tries, I finally beat her. My Ferrothorn with a rocky helmet came in clutch when I tricked her into using contact moves. This was a very fun experience, and I was thinking bout doing an ORAS and XY steel monotype. Here's the team I used to beat her. Rappa The Lucario[M] Lv 57 Psychic, Ice Punch, Strength, Aura Sphere. Item: Expert Belt, Ability: Steadfast. Mettaton The Magnezone Lv 53 Thunder Wave, Flash Cannon, Charge Beam, ThunderBolt Item: Magnet. Ability: Sturdy. Toph The Excadrill [F] Lv 56 Sandstorm, Earthquake, Metal Claw, Rock Slide. Item: Hard Stone Ability: Sand Rush. TetsuTetsu The Ferrothorn[M] Lv 50 Power Whip, Curse, Gyro Ball, Ingrain. The Adventures of Pest the Bug Catcher continues!
I decided to keep the Flygon on my team it doesn’t have a nickname though. I thought Sudowoodo was going to be a challenge but I didn’t even have to use Hera (Heracross). Morty wasn’t a challenge in Ecruteak, but some of the fire trainers in the Burned Tower were frightening. One Koffing managed to use Explosion but other than that we were mostly unscathed. We headed south to train some and we came across a Raikou! I threw a Quick Ball but darn it! It just isn’t the same as a Fast Ball and it got away. After defeating that young thug bothering some people we got surf and headed West. We started training Hera for the upcoming battle and around this point in the game I realized it was turning into a two man team with Hera and GRASSHOPPER taking the lead. We explored the Lighthouse and easily climbed our way up. Amphy, I believe it was called, was sick and so we couldn’t fight the gym leader. I took FODDER (Totodile) out of the PC and taught it surf. Around this time I started training Flygon. A Gyarados nearly wiped out my team but I made it to Cianwood somehow. I taught ZZZt (Beedrill #2) Rock Smash to make it feel more useful and started training again. I managed to catch Shuckle the “Shilly Piggy” and fought with Euswine because his greeting was Yo(u) Pest! Euswine managed to put my Flygon to sleep after it being confused and I swapped to the rest of the team and everyone was nearly dead and Electrode was on one hp and he got two lucky crits and I nearly started crying but luckily Flygon managed to wake up (I was out of Awakenings and Chesto Berries) then Shadow Ball took out his Pokémon with ease and Quick Attack was enough to take out 1 hp Electrode and Flygon turned from worst team member to MVP!!!!!!!!! But ZZZt and BUZZd are still at 20 and 21 respectively. Irregardless, Chuck, you’re up. |
Edit: What should I do if I want to post an update to my run but I'm the last one who posted? Should I edit my last post like I'm doing right now or should I wait for someone else to post? |
So I am back! At last haha. This Platinum run, it's lasting for years! Let's do the final push! On a side note, I want to add Sword to my Ultimate Monotype Challenge. So, without further ado, let's go.
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun, Sword. 4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 11: The post-game! So yeah, I went to get the National Dex after beating the E4. Can't believe I skipped seeing Unown! After getting it, I went to explore the new area in Victory Road, travelling with Marley, to reach Route 224. There I was very close to dying. Didn't take my Toxicroak and my Infernape with me because of the need of HM Slaves, and a Gyarados set up Dragon Dance. I was very lucky he missed Aqua Tail... But nothing else was remarkable. I caught a few Legendaries, and then when I was ready I went to the Battle Zone! There Volkner and Flint were waiting for a fight, a fight where I was helped by my rival. I had a rough start, Houndoom outsped Lucario and beat it with Flamethrower. The Staraptor destroyed it, but Luxray took it out. Then Luxray boosted Flareon’s moves, and a critical Overheat destroyed my Machamp. 2 turns, 2 Pokémon lost! The battle went on and Toxicroak managed to beat both the Luxray and the Flareon with the help of the Rival’s Snorlax, using Earthquake. he fell to Magmortar’s move, though. Then Gallade beat the Magmortar, but fell to Electivire due to Defense drops from Close Combat. So Infernape had to go out and finish the battle off destroying Electivire and Jolteon with Close Combat. With this battle done, I explored the island, battling trainers and catching Pokémon, before going to Stark Mountain. I only struggled a bit in Route 225, where the annoying Psychic- and Flying-type moves from the trainers beat a few of my Pokémon. With that done, I went to Stark Mountain to finish the quest at this island. There I fought Team Galactic. Mars was easy. Her Bronzong fell to 2 Flamethrower from Infernape (she set Light Screen), and then Gallade took down both Golbat and Purugly with Psycho Cut and Close Combat, although her Shadow Claw did quite a bit of damage. Jupiter was also easy. Same strategy Vs. Bronzong and Golbat, and then the Skuntank fell to 2 Megahorns from Heracross, despite a miss and a burn after that from Flamethrower. Next up was the rival battle in Survival Area. Staraptor was as always problematic. It beat my Lucario before falling to a Machamp’s Revenge. Infernape beat Rapidash with 2 Close Combats, and Toxicroak dealt with the Empoleon with 2 Brick Breaks. Snorlax was destroyed with Heracross’s Close Combat, Roserade fell to Gallade’s Psycho Cut and finally in a Heracross Vs. Heracross fight, mine was faster and won with Aerial Ace. After that I had fun battling in the Survival area, I fought in some close battles Maylene, Fantina, Marley and Byron. Then I went to catch Heatran. First try it died to Struggle after failing to catch it with 50!! Timer Balls. Next try the second Dusk Ball was enough... xD So the last thing to do is to challenge the E4 rematches, which are the same teams with higher levels. I'll grind a bit and fight them. Then I will at last finish this endless run! Current Team: Spoiler:
Number of Badges: 8. Current Location: Survival Area. Number of losses: 3. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IT'S FINALLY OVER!! I started the challenge on Platinum, reading my posts from the past, on October 5th 2017!! So almost two years and a half later, Platinum is complete. The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun, Sword. 4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 12: The finale! I grinded my whole team up to level 70 to stand a chance against the improved E4, and then went to face them. Third and fourth battle were tough, but I managed to win. Not gonna talk about them because they were similar to the first time I won them. Against Cynthia, I was super lucky! After beating Spiritomb with 2 Flamethrowers, my Gallade set up 3 Swords Dances against Milotic, and destroyed 4 Pokémon! Her Dragon Rush missed so Garchomp fell as well. With just Lucario remaining, Heracross finished the job. So it's finally over! https://i.imgur.com/p9b2ZK3.png https://i.imgur.com/dfPItoU.png So here it is, my final team, this time without the Spoiler tag, they deserve to be seen. Final Team: https://i.imgur.com/BSHvcDu.png Lv 71https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/1/15/Spr_4p_392.png (M) @ Choice Specs. Blaze. Brave Nature. ThunderPunch, Close Combat, Grass Knot, Flamethrower. Lv 70 https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/0/01/Spr_4p_068.png (M) @ Fist Plate. Guts. Sassy Nature. Cross Chop, Ice Punch, Revenge, Rock Slide. Lv 70 https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/6/6b/Spr_4p_214_m.png (M) @ Black Belt. Guts. Jolly Nature. Brick Break, Aerial Ace, Close Combat, Megahorn. Lv 70 https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/0/02/Spr_4p_475.png (M) @ Mind Plate. Steadfast. Hardy Nature. Psycho Cut, Swords Dance, Close Combat, Night Slash. Lv 70 https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/5/5c/Spr_4p_454_m.png (M) @ Expert Belt. Dry Skin. Docile Nature. Earthquake, Poison Jab, Brick Break, Sucker Punch. Lv 70 https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/8/80/Spr_4p_448.png (M) @ Life Orb. Steadfast. Docile Nature. Psychic, Shadow Ball, Close Combat, Aura Sphere. Number of losses: 3. So, final thoughts on them... Infernape was clearly the MVP here. Amazing coverage, amazing strength, fast... Super good Pokémon to train. Nothing else to say, he saved me so many times! Machamp, well, he was slow, but he provided important bulk to the team. His Revenges were very strong. A shame I didn't get a No Guard one, but Guts was very useful sometimes, like when it helped ko Cynthia's Garchomp with a single Ice Punch! Heracross is a very good all-around Pokémon. Infernape shone more than him when I got it, but still, he remained useful throughout the whole game. He was very important against Fantina, thanks to Guts, when I didn't have much coverage in the team. I wasn't planning to train it, but when it appeared in that honey tree I couldn't reject him! Gallade was annoying to train when he was just a Kirlia, but I got the evolution very fast with the hidden Dawn Stone near Pastoria. He was decently fast and very strong. His Psychic coverage was very important against some Poison-types. With Swords Dance he was very threatening to opponents. A very cool Pokémon to have. Toxicroak didn't stand out that much. He was quite frail and lacked a bit of strength. His Dry Skin Ability was cool, though, the battle with Crasher Wake was hilarious thanks to it. And it was the Pokémon I taught Earthquake, so it was very useful against certain Pokémon. Sucker Punch was also very important against Lucian's Psychic Pokémon like Alakazam. A Pokémon that hasn't shone that much, but was very important in certain battles. And the final inclusion, Lucario. A good all around Pokémon that added a few more Special Attacks to the team. He was good to have but didn't do very well in important fights. Against the E4 he was garbage xD. So that's it. I enjoyed the game, although its slow pace sometimes and the fact I also played other games and had a lot of things to do in the last couple of years meant this run took forever. Hopefully I can be faster with White 2 Challenge Mode, where I expect a really tough challenge, to be honest. Platinum was nice to play again after so many years, it is an amazing Pokémon game, set in an amazing region with very cool Pokémon and challenges! |
I thought I already wrote about me doing the X Steel monotype, but I didn't, soo
Forum Name: RattataDude Game: X Challenge: Single Pokemon Type: Steel |
I started White 2! As with the previous games, my only additional rule is no Revives during battle. Let's go!
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun, Sword. 5. Pokémon White 2 (Challenge Mode) Fighting Monotype update No. 1: Again with the Fire starter! Yeah, of course, Fighting-type monotype, so I have to go for the Fire-type starter for the third time in a row. So Tepig it was! It was Jolly, so yeah, not very good with Special Attacks but decent, I guess. After picking my starter, I faced the rival, and I managed to win! Although Oshawott was lv 6 due to Challenge Mode, and got a crit with the first Tackle, it fell after a Tail Whip and 3 Tackles. It was pretty close, though! Eventually I reached Floccesy Ranch, where I caught a lv 7 Riolu. This time it joins the team much earlier than in Platinum, which is good. He has a Modest Nature, which is interesting, and will make me train him as a Special Attacker, although his Force Palms will be weaker for now. At Floccesy Ranch I battled my rival Hugh once more. It was pretty easy for Riolu, despite being 2 levels lower. He beat it with 2 Counters on his Tackles, so quite straightforward! After meeting Team Plasma, and training with Alder, it was time to go to the first gym in the game. I grinded my 2 Pokémon up to level 13, and went for the fight with Cheren! First gym battle! Patrat was easy, he didn’t hit me at all, as he used Work Up, but with Tail Whip, my Tepig easily beat him with 3 Tackles after the Potion. Next up was Lillipup. It was going well, but he set up a few Work Ups. After we both healed with the Oran Berries, his Tackle was Critical and beat Tepig. Fortunately, he was very low on health, so Riolu’s Quick Attack finished him off. And Cheren’s last Pokémon was Pidove. Quite scary for Riolu. He went for Work Up but then for Quick Attack. Seeing this, after my first 2 Quick Attacks, I went for Counter to destroy the bird! So first badge in the pocket! And happiness for Riolu, who also learnt Force Palm here! I checked after the battle and it seems that this Pidove doesn't have Gust. Things would have been different had he had that move... I stopped playing here, it's 2 AM now! Will keep going tomorrow, hopefully! Current Team: Spoiler:
Number of Badges: 1. Current Location: Aspertia City. Number of losses: 0. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've kept going with this! Important update! The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun, Sword. 5. Pokémon White 2 (Challenge Mode) Fighting Monotype update No. 2: Team revolution! After getting the first badge, I went to Virbank City, and at Virbank Complex, my Tepig evolved into Pignite! Yes! With my new Pokémon, I went to face Roxie: Riolu didn’t do much damage to Koffing, who forced me to send Pignite. Standing a few Venoshocks with 10 HP, I beat the Koffing. Next up was Grimer. I had to use some Fresh Water. After that, Grimer was easy with Flame Charge and Return. And finally, she sent Whirlipede. My Ember was a crit and burnt her! So after that a single Flame Charge was enough. Second badge in the pocket! After battling Team Plasma, I headed to Castelia City, and there, battling GameFreak Morimoto, my Riolu evolved at lv 20 into Lucario! Happy with this, a lv 20 Lucario is gonna be strong. I went to Route 4 to get Scraggy before going to the Battle Company or facing Team Plasma. I caught one quite fast. He was lv 17, with Shed Skin, and Hardy Nature. Decent, I guess. Surprised it learnt Brick Break so early, that’s good! And after Scraggy, it was Timburr’s time to join my team. I caught a lv 17 female one at the Relic Passage after beating the Plasma grunts. It was Gentle. - Def nature isn’t very good, but at least it’s not -Atk. I hacked my game so that Gurdurr evolves at lv 40, by the way. And with 4 Pokémon on my team, I went to face Burgh. Dwebble was super easy for Lucario, he fell to a few Force Palms. Next up was Karrablast. He beat my Timburr with 2 Aerial Aces, but Rock Throw left him weakened, so Scraggy with Payback finished him off. Next up was Leavanny, so I sent Pignite. He survived my Flame Charge with red HP, and despite my Pignite gaining speed, he was still faster and beat me with Aerial Ace. After the berry my Lucario left him with very low HP, and he healed… So annoying. I was forced to heal twice, and use a Casteliacone when he went for Grasswhistle, but in the end I won with Counter. And Shelmet was his final Pokémon. He set up a few Curses… for then using Special Attacks like Acid and Mega Drain! They were weak, and after a long battle, my Scraggy prevailed! So the third badge is mine! Quite the close fight, that Lv 26 Leavanny with Aerial Ace vs. my lv 22-24 Pokémon was strong! Current Team: Spoiler:
Ultimate Dragon Monotype in Pokémon Blackhttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/anim/normal/zweilous.gifhttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/anim/normal/druddigon.gifhttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/anim/normal/haxorus.gifFINAL PARTThis run was interesting. I hacked Deino as my starter in place of Tepig and it had Hustle. Combined with its stats and late evolution, mid game felt a lot like late game of my 1st stage no faint solo runs. Deino was dying a lot. Especially since she barely hit anything at all. I'll have nightmare about Excadrill for a long time because of that. Missing every single attack in several tries was insane. But after getting Axew, this run got second wind and I quickly cut through the rest of the Gym Leaders and E4. Last obstacle of this run was Ghetsis' Hydreigon. I refused to train my Zweilous to level 64, because I didn't want to be overleveled for him, but oh god, I wish I did. Hydreigon was faster than all my dragons (I forgot to set up Haxorus with Dragon Dance prior) and was able to one-shot all of them, so I had to PP stall its Dragon Pulse and then beat it with Haxorus' Dragon Claw. Overall, this was pretty good run. Here's the final screen of Ghetsis: Spoiler:
Next up is Kalos and opportunity to get more than 3 Pokémon on team. If I recall correctly, there are Bagon and Axew early on after 1st Gym, so I don't have to trade anything in. Teamhttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/anim/normal/zweilous.gifBetty, Jolly Female Zweilous lvl 51, Hustle - Crunch - Body Slam - Dragon Rush - Work Up https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/anim/normal/druddigon.gif Denderina, Sassy Female Druddigon lvl 55, Rough Skin - Dragon Claw - Crunch - Superpower - Bulldoze https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/anim/normal/haxorus.gif Mythos, Careful Male Haxorus lvl 59, Mold Breaker @Dragon Fang - Dragon Claw - Slash - Guillotine - Dragon Dance |
Update to my mono-ice run.
Completed Y a couple days ago. Final team was Aurorus, Avalugg, Mega Abomasnow, Glaceon, Lapras and Mamoswine Now it's on to emerald and allready I've got a question. Now i'm doing all of theese on cartridge, problem is the internal battery ran dry ages ago on my emerald cartridge and so i'm not guaranteed to be able to catch snorunt because you can only find snorunt at low tide. Would i be allowed to trade in snorunt if the shoal cave gets locked into high tide? I would only trade it in once I reach the point where I would normally be able to catch it. |
WHAT. A. BATTLE!
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun, Sword. Additional Rules: - No revives inside battles. - No PP stalling opponents by healing all the time. 5. Pokémon White 2 (Challenge Mode) Fighting Monotype update No. 3: An electrifying battle! After getting the third badge, I went to Route 4, where I fought Colress for the first time in the game. He wasn’t hard, but he was a bit annoying. With Sturdy Magnemite survived Timburr’s attack, and left me weakened and paralyzed before falling. Klink finished my Timburr off with Gear Grind, but my Pignite easily ended the battle. With this battle done, I explored the desert, caught a few new Pokémon and got some levels against trainers in Desert Resort. When I felt ready, I went to Nimbasa City. There, fighting at the rollercoaster, Timburr evolved into Gurdurr! I had an easy fight versus Ingo and Emmet, thanks to Rosa’s Servine. Lucario and Servine beat the Boldore, and I swapped Lucario for my own Gurdurr to finish their Gurdurr. After battling trainers at the Stadiums, Route 5 and Route 16, I went to the gym to get the fourth badge. Elesa fight! Emolga Vs. Gurdurr. My Rock Tomb did good damage, but she beat me with 2 Aerial Aces. I sent Lucario, and she Volt Switched into Zebstrika, doing a crit as well. Zebstrika stood the Dig, healed with Sitrus Berry, and beat Lucario with Flame Charge. And then she used Volt Switch again! My Pignite got paralyzed by Static, and Emolga destroyed him with Aerial Ace. So I only have Scraggy Vs. 4 Pokémon, great! She Volt Switched into Flaaffy this time, and I beat her, thanks to Swagger and Brick Break. Scraggy thanks to Eviolite stood Emolga’s Aerial Ace and finished her off with Headbutt. She sent Joltik, and used Volt Switch while I healed, so again Zebstrika on the field. I don’t know why, but she went for Pursuit and then for Flame Charge, doing little damage, and 2 Paybacks from Scraggy beat her. And finally, her last Pokémon is Joltik, again. She paralyzed me, but for the third or fourth time on this battle, Scraggy healed with Shed Skin. I stood the Volt Switch and won with 2 Paybacks! So the fourth badge was mine! I have to build a statue for Scraggy! https://i.imgur.com/lUYL6wx.png Current Team: Spoiler:
LET'S GO!
The Ultimate Monotype Challenge! Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Sun, Sword. Additional Rules: - No revives inside battles. - No PP stalling opponents by healing all the time. 5. Pokémon White 2 (Challenge Mode) Fighting Monotype update No. 4: When the evolutions are not enough. After getting my fourth badge, I went to Driftveil City. There, the battle with Rood was very easy. Lucario beat the Herdier with 2 Force Palms and Scraggy destroyed Swoobat with Payback. Now it was time to face Clay for my fifth badge! Krokorok was easy for Scraggy. He set a Sandstorm up and used Torment, but despite the Sitrus Berry, he fell to 2 Brick Breaks. Onix was also super easy for Gurdurr, two Ice Punches were enough, and his Rock Slides did very little damage. Gurdurr also destroyed the Sandslash with 2 Ice Punches, with Quick Claw allowing me to receive 0 damage! And finally, Scraggy took Excadrill’s Metal Claw easily and koed him with a single Hi Jump Kick. So the fifth badge is mine! This was much easier than Elesa. After getting this badge and fighting at the PWT, you get the Surf HM, so it was time for some exploration. I grabbed a lot of items, and also fought for a While in the Battle Subway to get myself the Brick Break TM. When I was ready, I went to Chargestone Cave. Going through this cave, Pignite evolved into Emboar! And at the Celestial Tower, Scraggy became Scrafty! And soon after that, Gurdurr evolved into Conkeldurr at level 40, as I had programmed! So 3 very consecutive evolutions for my team! After all this exploration, I went to face Skyla, which was quite scary as Fighting-types suffer against Flying-type Pokémon. Here we go! My Emboar stood Swoobat’s Psychic with 33 HP and beat her with a single Heat Crash. Against Swanna, I was very unlucky. My Conkeldurr, with Sheer Force Rock Slide, did a lot of damage even though she used FeatherDance. But then, while she used Air Slash (missing once), I MISSED 2 ROCK SLIDES IN A ROW! So Conkeldurr fainted. And after losing Conkeldurr, Scrafty was flinched to death with Air Slash. Lucario beat her, but was very weakened. So Sigilyph, with Psychic, swept the rest of my team. First loss of the run. Next try! A smoother beginning this time. Swoobat went for Attract vs Emboar, but I hit her through it with a crit Heat Crash, and beat her! Next up was Swanna. Her Air Slash hurt Conkeldurr a lot, but a single Rock Slide was enough to beat her. Scrafty dealt with Sigilyph easily standing the Air Cutter, with a single Crunch. And Skarmory was easy for Emboar, despite her Aerial Ace, 2 Heat Crashes were more than enough. So this time in a very easy battle (that could have gone wrong due to Attract or Air Slash, though), I won my sixth badge! I stopped playing there. Current Team: Spoiler:
Game(s): US Pokémon Type:Normal Single/Ultimate: Single |
I've been mulling this over for a while now and I think I'm going to give it a go, now that I've settled on the type I want to use, dug out my old DS Lite, and checked through my games to see which ones I can afford to restart.
Forum User Name: Dawn Game(s): Fire Red, HeartGold, Emerald/Alpha Sapphire (depends on my mood), Platinum, White 2, X, Ultra Moon, Shield Pokémon Type: Flying Single/Ultimate: Ultimate I am probably going to regret this, but I guess we'll see! Will probs try and finish one game a month starting from next month, in generation order, with a gap between Platinum and White 2 so I can play the original White first, which I will not be doing as a mono-Flying run because I still have Pokemon Dream Radar so I can use the genies in White 2 hahaha. I may or may not have an all-Oricorio run for Ultra Moon if I get that far, too. I *might* limit myself to Pokemon of the generation I am playing (i.e. can only use Gyarados in Gen 1, Skarmory in Gen 2, and so on) although it'll depend on what is available to me each game...not going to have a death rule or anything, I'm not a masochist. Well, not to THAT degree. Watch this space for updates. I'm playing other games too so who knows how much time I'll make for this. xD |
Alright I finally had time to start the run and also decided to add an extra challenge to where I have to get ever Normal type I can before the elite four. So I started the run chose Rowlet and basically skipped through the tutorial and picked up my first three Pikipek, Buneary, and Yungoos trained them to level 6 before fighting Hau, and then doing the stuff to get the rotom dex then backtracked to get Rattata. Finally went to the trainer school trained everyone to level 10 before taking on the teacher lady and will pick back up later.
Ultimate Monotype Challenge - Fire Red Part #1 - A painful lesson in humility Start a Flying-type ultimate monotype challenge, I said. It'll be easy, I said. Maybe I should do more than a quick cursory study before I commit myself to these things. Today reminded me of something - no matter how old you are or how long you've been doing something, you can still fuck things up royally if you're not attentive. I could have gone with Fire Red or Leaf Green, but Fire Red was a deliberate choice: Dratini is about half the price in the Game Corner, and a Dragonite in my endgame team will make life MUCH easier. It'll still be relatively easy in some part, because I'll use Articuno to sweep through Lance, but it'd be a nice thing to have. With a team of Charizard, Pidgeot, Gyarados, Butterfree, Articuno, and Dragonite for the Elite Four, I shouldn't have any issues...provided I get that far. I could also have started with Yellow or Let's Go Pikachu, but that would have been a tad problematic...and awful. The former has aged VERY badly, and the latter is just plain bad. Fire Red, whilst slow as hell, seemed like the way to go. Naturally I started with Charmander, because Charizard is Fire/Flying, which gives me a nice edge...and I didn't much fancy doing the beginning of the game with just Pidgey and Butterfree. Neglecting Spearow because I only need one Normal/Flying type on my team, and I do LOVE Pidgey. Sorry Spearow, maybe...never. Hahaha. Ha. Brock destroyed me. I knew Charmander and Pidgey would be utterly useless to me against Rock types, so I concentrated on getting my Butterfree up to Level 15. Confusion should cut through it relatively quickly and easily, I tell myself. Nope. Tiny sliver of health gone, Rock Tomb. Bye bye, Butterfree. Wonderful. I was left with a severely underpowered Charmander and Pidgey, so I reset. Probably just a fluke. Nope. Same thing happened the second time. And the third. And the fourth. I was getting a little irritated at that point so I decided to grind my Charmander up to a Charmeleon...if nothing else, it'd be able to dish out a couple of hits with Ember before dying. Might even burn it. Didn't it learn Smokescreen as well? Maybe I could blind the thing enough that it wouldn't crush my Butterfree when I sent it out to Confusion it into oblivion. Charmander learned Metal Claw at level 13. I did not know this was a thing. Needless to say, I destroyed Brock with that. It cut through Geodude with relative ease, I scored a lucky crit on Onix, got wiped out by Rock Tomb, and then Buttefree finished it off with a single Confusion. Huh. Guess I'd better brush up on who learns what and when. I could have sworn it learned Smokescreen before Metal Claw, but I guess the developers swapped it around to make Charmander at least partially viable for the first Gym. ...I don't suppose it can learn Thunderbolt before Misty's Gym, can it? No? OK then...god, I HATE Misty. I am not looking forward to this. Also, the high number of Pikachu I found in the Viridian Forest was both disgusting and infuriating. I spent HOURS hunting for that electric rat when I played this game back when it was released. HOURS. Now that I'm restricted to Flying-types, I find one within the first 15 minutes, and several more as I trudge through the forest. Thanks for that, game. If I find a non-Flying type shiny I am throwing my DS out the window ._.
