What was the hardest part of R/S/E when you started playing it?

We don't all have beginners luck. I know for a fact that we all have difficulties when we start on a game. What was the hardest part for you?

For me it was mastering Mach Bike tricks!

pokejungle June 23rd, 2005 8:32 PM

In Emerald it has been catching a diverse group 0o;; My pokedex is only at 54!!! WTH??

-.-;; Can't seem to find anything other than common ones. Have to look harder after the E4 ^^

Mystic June 23rd, 2005 8:32 PM

Probly Norman. I don't know why but even on my fourth or fifth time playing it I still have trouble with it. I barely defeated him with my Mahukita (sp?) on my current game. He was about Lv. 30 at the time.

pokejungle June 23rd, 2005 8:36 PM

Hmmm....I found Norman easier than a particular trainer that inhabited his gym. Can't remember which room though >.<;;

None of the Gyms were too hard except Liza and Tate for me.

When I first started to play Ruby, about three of the Gym Leaders was hard for me. Tate & Liza, Norman and Flannery. I think Flannery was hard was because I didn't really have the right Pokemon. A careless mistake by me. The wierd thing is that I've been playing Pokemon since about the time it came out over here.

pokejungle June 23rd, 2005 8:52 PM

Flannery gave me some trouble in Ruby too. Something about using Sceptile to beat her XD

lok June 23rd, 2005 10:58 PM

Liza and Tate is hardest! Earthquake + Psychic!!! my pokemon can't stand long under their attacks! I spent lot of time to defeat them.

Chris17 June 24th, 2005 6:53 AM

I had difficult finding most of the HM and I didn't know how to fish.

©H®Ï§ June 24th, 2005 7:04 AM

The hardest part was in emerald when I had to reach Liza & Tate. The battle was easy.

pokejungle June 24th, 2005 7:09 AM

The maze wasn't *that* hard IMHO.

But I liked it better than the Ruby version. Emerald's was easier XD

THIRTY-SIX June 24th, 2005 7:23 AM

those stupid f***ing slaking from normans gym the second time i played it, actually both times xD swampert beat tate and liza with surf xD

pokejungle June 24th, 2005 7:29 AM

XD I trained up a Shark. Whatever those things are called. To beat her. Dark/water was the perfect combo XD

Chairman Kaga June 24th, 2005 7:32 AM

When I went against Flannery the first time, all I had was a Combusken, an Aron, and a Skarmory, so I had to shut my game off and turn it on again three or four times because of Torkoal. All my pokemon were male, and it would use Attract then Overheat on Aron and Skarmory then Body Slam on Combusken (which would ALWAYS paralyze it), and if I ever got it down to a few HP, Flannery would use Hyper Potion on it and defeat me. I have no idea how I finally won =/

pokejungle June 24th, 2005 8:14 AM

I think the best think to do for Flannery is catch a magikarp and train it to a Gyrados. OHKO for each pokemon of hers I'd guess.

Smarties-chan June 24th, 2005 8:32 AM

Hardest part in ruby? Probaly the elite four the first time I played all my pokemon were under-trained but that always happens to me when I play a new pokemon game and the fourth time I played through Ruby Drake was a little bit hard because the only pokemon that had an ice attack was Wailord with a nature that takes down special attack plus that my pokemon were under-trained again >_<.

Morkula June 24th, 2005 9:33 AM

Norman was the hardest in R/S, but in Emerald I had the most trouble against Liza and Tate. That Claydol was awful... x.x
Juan's Kingdra was pretty tough too. Especially since it has Double Team and Chesto Rest... x.x

pokejungle June 24th, 2005 9:39 AM

Ya...Juan's kindra used double team x10 + kept resting x.x;;;

I had to restart and just keep blasting it with thunderbolt XD

Squeegee Beckenheim June 24th, 2005 9:41 AM

I thought Juan was pretty easy compared to Wallace(gym leader)

Marius June 24th, 2005 9:44 AM

I hate Steven's Metagross in Ruby. I can easily wipe out his other Pokemon, but Meteor Smash is an attack from hell. FROM HELL.

'Tis why I'm currently training a Metang.

Nine June 24th, 2005 5:21 PM

Probably the beginning, suffering through training Ralts. o_o

Or the Electric gym leader, can't remember his name... I dunno why, everyone else was easy EXCEPT HIM.

Eiken June 24th, 2005 5:47 PM

I believe Wattson was his name.

Anyway,Tate & Liza were the hardest part for me. Took forever to beat them. Earthquake kept taking out my Pokemon really fast.

pokejungle June 24th, 2005 6:22 PM

@ Hunk: You're right! Juan was a cinch compared to Wallace.

I actually had trouble on Wallace x.x;;

v-lord June 24th, 2005 6:27 PM

the hardest part in all the games for me is building a good team at the beginning.

pokejungle June 24th, 2005 6:31 PM

I agree ^^

You have to really train your guys if you want to PWN all the way through -.-;

Squeegee Beckenheim June 24th, 2005 6:57 PM

Agreed, I got Ruby the day it came out, and some of the new Pokemon and team building was honestly frightening.

Morkula June 24th, 2005 7:25 PM

I pretty much blasted through everything Wallace and Juan had, except for Juan's Kingdra and Wallace's Milotic (and Ludicolo in Emerald, especially since I didn't have a flying type with me) x.x

Squeegee Beckenheim June 24th, 2005 7:36 PM

I bet you had really strong electric or grass Pokemon

Morkula June 24th, 2005 7:47 PM

In Emerald, my E4/Wallace team was *checks* Blaziken, Flygon, Starmie (Thunderbolt ;)), Manectric (again, Thunderbolt), Gardevoir (Thunderbolt... XD), and Absol.

Mystic June 24th, 2005 7:56 PM

I better start putting my Manelectric at the front for more training. I'm going to need the extra help now. Wyona's being a pain towards me now. I don't have an Ice type and Alteria's doing a number over my Pokemon.

pokejungle June 25th, 2005 7:21 AM

I think Raichu's a much better choice than manetric ^_~

Think you need that many thunderbolts? 0o;;

Squeegee Beckenheim June 25th, 2005 7:38 AM

Thunderbolts are very good. I like using them. In Emerald I trained a Manectric and it was hard to train, but it was very fast. I trained a Raichu in LG and it was very strong but had low low hit points

pokejungle June 25th, 2005 7:42 AM

My raichu has lots of HP ^^ Maybe you just got a sucky nature :P

Having tons of pokemon with thunderbolt is rather redundant though :/

Squeegee Beckenheim June 25th, 2005 7:44 AM

You do have a point there. Thunderbolt on all or most Pokemon is very redundant.

pokejungle June 25th, 2005 8:36 AM

^^

I'm studying the meta-game with Frostweaver XD

Minese June 27th, 2005 6:18 PM

In Emerald I was stuck on Steven in Meteor Falls

Now I can't beat Battle Frontier.

Hahlin June 27th, 2005 7:04 PM

same here! it also took me a while at the Dewford gym and Normas gym, but, I beat the pokemon league with just Rayquaza, wierd

steel_skarmory June 29th, 2005 8:59 AM

As far as the plot in the game such as, gym leaders, Team magma/aqua, and other stuff, nothing was really hard. What was hard was choosing the pkmn to use on my team, and getting them to lvl.100. It wasn't really hard, but it took me a long time.

Dragon-Chan June 29th, 2005 9:08 AM

I didn't have any trouble till the Elite Four. I was using the "stomp" method with my Blaziken: I would power-level it until it was so high level that nothing where I was could beat it. The power levelling began when I evolved it into a combusken just to beat Roxanne.

alakazamisbest June 30th, 2005 11:52 AM

the hardest part in all of the games is the begining cause u have to walk everywhere and that takes too long.

Charizard_Fire_God June 30th, 2005 12:03 PM

Tch. That would be catchin' tha regis for me... >_<

me too
plus haveing to evolve my cute torchic into blaziken to beat norman
and flannery was a pain same with liz and tate, couldnt even beat them :dead: and with my torchic it was hard to beat roxanne but i did with my lombre

Uber_Flame June 30th, 2005 4:20 PM

Mine was catching a feebas they hard to find Oo

Shining Lericon July 1st, 2005 10:47 AM

The hardest part for me was beating Liza & Tate. Their Claydol and Xatu kept owning my Pokemon!

kohei July 1st, 2005 11:22 PM

Hardest part was finding my way around the map. I'm never good at remembering where I am.

Umbreon14 July 2nd, 2005 1:12 AM

I could never beat Wattson. It always took me at least 4 tries, him and the elite four because I never level up for the e4 in any game XD.

§ Bleep § July 2nd, 2005 6:41 PM

i could never beat may the time you faced her on the ruote right below mawile city(marshtomp vs grovyle, i'd always lose)... than i got smart and realized "Hey... wingull is a flying type! Grovyle is a grass type! YAY." but tahts when i first got r/s... in emerald there really wasn't too much hard stuff.

Ap41290 July 3rd, 2005 1:26 AM

I actually found the gym leaders to be easy this time around (I restarted). I got lucky on each of them. Especially on Norman. I only had my Torkoal and Gardevior left... I sent Torkoal against Slaking, Torkoal Body Slammed him, Slaking was paralyzed. Slaking then killed my Torkoal, then I sent out Gardevior, Pyschic... Loafing... Pyschic, Can't move... etc, it continued till I won. Lucky huh?

Oh, and Tate and Liz weren't that hard. I beat their Claydol in one hit, their Xatu with a few Thunderbolts... Lunatone with Steel Wing/Iron Tail, and Solrock with a Surf (times a million, I swear, I hate it when they use Hyper Potions) and Iron Tail.

In my past few games Winona was a bum. I couldn't beat her, I battled her a lot... yeah, she was hard.

Sylver July 3rd, 2005 2:33 AM

You know the bridge near Trick House? I didn't see it! xD I walked one week around searching for the exit becouse of it!

Eig July 3rd, 2005 5:11 AM

The hardest part(s)?
1. First try in Wallace's Gym (Stupid ice!)
2. Trick house with the Rotating Doors (Where i am?! Where's exit?!)
3. Beating Winona (That @#$% Swellow!)
And, it was not hard, but long... In Norman's gym in my Ruby, i battled with one Slaking one hour! It was using Rest, Rest, Rest...

pokejungle July 3rd, 2005 5:29 PM

I had a bit of trouble with Winona when I chose Treecko...but my Emerald marshtomp made that a lot easier =D

Squeegee Beckenheim July 3rd, 2005 6:49 PM

I think we all seem to agree Norman, Winonna, and Tate and Liza are true challenges!

pokejungle July 3rd, 2005 6:55 PM

Ya XD

You could add Wallace as well...in R/S he was hard. Haven't tried him in the E4 yet...

Squeegee Beckenheim July 3rd, 2005 6:59 PM

He really isn't that bad in the Elite Four though most of his team consists of duel type water Pokemon which is very hard to overthrow.

ArKiVe July 5th, 2005 12:15 AM

The hardest part for me in R&S was hm...Maybe it was the second time battling May idk it was when her main pokemon was in the second stage of evolution and mine was too. It was my Grovyle vs her Combusken so...yeah. Didn't fair too well but somehow I managed to take her down.

Pretty Boy Sean July 5th, 2005 1:32 AM

Flannery. Her Torkoal Body Slammed and Overheated my pokemon to hell.

pokejungle July 5th, 2005 6:08 AM

XD

Her torkoal PWNed me too @[email protected] I hate overheat.

Squeegee Beckenheim July 5th, 2005 6:37 AM

I hate Overheat when someone else uses it, but I love it when I use it!

Chibi-chan July 5th, 2005 6:42 AM

The Twins! @[email protected] them and they're psykic (sp?) pokemon. :K I only won by using destiny bond XD

I love overheat too! ^_____^

Uber_Flame July 5th, 2005 7:52 AM

let's see i had another post but that was just 1,let's see, catching feebas, getting to rayquaza,Wattson was the hardest of all Gym Leaders,Breeding anything i had,and of course finding one of the lati's

Squeegee Beckenheim July 6th, 2005 5:26 AM

Yhea I seemed to have difficulties in all those areas.

The Maulmeister July 8th, 2005 6:45 AM

Well, after finishing Leaf Green, I'm finding that Ruby/Sapphire is a bit more challenging, especially since I'm not too familiar with the Hoenn Pokemon. I need to memorize their types so I don't have to keep looking them up in the *&(^% player guide to make sure I'm using the best one in battle. Gotta do my homework, I guess. :D

Virtual Headache July 8th, 2005 6:48 AM

I had some problems with beating Norman.
It also took me some time to beat the Elite 4.

Champion Taylor July 8th, 2005 6:56 AM

Norman was quite easy, My Level 50 Sceptyle (sp?) took him out in less than a minute.

I did find the twins hard... stupid Solrock.

pokejungle July 8th, 2005 6:58 AM

Ya. If you have something strong, he goes out pretty easy. But really, you have to watch out for his strong attacks. @@'

Yami_Zidane July 8th, 2005 7:08 AM

gaaa... it took me quite a while to beat tate & liza, it was really annoying, but eventually i prevailed. After beating the E4 working out all the evolutions and locations of all the new pokemon when first playing through ruby was annoying, i had no idea where or what they were O.o

pokejungle July 8th, 2005 7:11 AM

My Emerald pokedex is doing really bad @@' I was to the E4 and hadn't even caught a zigzagoon XD

Da Schwarz July 8th, 2005 7:22 AM

only tate and liza were my problems

Crystal Clair July 8th, 2005 11:18 AM

The only problem I had in the entire game was battling the team Magma boss. His Camerupt kept pwning my Combusken with his darn Earthquake.
Hey, I had a real easy time with Winona and Norman. I dont even remember my match with Norman it was so easy. I do remember that I pwned Winona in one match. I was doing the Mt Pyre event and I didn't know of the Berry route and Winona gave me the abulity to fly from town to town. So by the time I got there, I just felt like getting the battle over with.

Happy Dude July 8th, 2005 4:33 PM

For me it was mastering Mach Bike tricks!

Since when has the Mach bike had tricks.XD.

UH,um it would of been trading all the starters all the egg hatching and what- not.

Ichiro Miyamoto July 11th, 2005 9:23 AM

Well, since I just bought Ruby yesterday, it's fighting Amy for the second time

*Twilight* July 11th, 2005 10:02 AM

i got stuck at the beginning when it came to battling brawly's makuhita. i had to fight that thing with a treecko, a lombre, and a poochyena!

Kira July 11th, 2005 10:13 AM

Tate and Liza, the rest were easy to me :P Oh, and Drake from the E4

Xx_whiterose_xX August 2nd, 2005 8:26 PM

the hardest part for me is Steven after the elite 4.

pokejungle August 3rd, 2005 6:02 AM

I'm dreadin the E4 because of you all :P

Lots more training I guess =/

.-'Infernal Hylian'-. August 3rd, 2005 6:13 AM

steven was a reall let down for me i fefeated him in 5 times. his metagross was no match for my blazikin!

Squeegee Beckenheim August 3rd, 2005 6:49 AM

Yeah Blaziken can out shine all his Pokemon with ease

silverbullet2k4 August 6th, 2005 3:09 PM

My biggest problem was defeating Champion Wallace in Emerald without any legendaries and with Blaziken only level 49 and two other guys level 48. Milotic was a *****.

pikagurl511 August 7th, 2005 8:08 AM

my hardest was when I got Ruby for X-mas, and I couldnt beat the rival for the second time :( I had to get my ex-friend to do it for me XD

silverbullet2k4 August 7th, 2005 10:32 AM

What are you talking about, the rival is EASY!

pikagurl511 August 7th, 2005 11:27 AM

I only had 1 Pokemon, and my friend caught me 2 Zigzagoons and a Wingull

Squeegee Beckenheim August 7th, 2005 11:59 AM

The second time is really difficult, but having more that one Pokemon could help.

wishirulz August 10th, 2005 6:25 PM

the first time i tryed it it was beating poochyena in the begining ahh i think i lost over 6 times

Kurono August 11th, 2005 11:13 AM

Well for Ruby and Sapphire I had trouble with Tate and Liza, in Emerald the toughest part for me was probably the Elite Four. I barely beat Wallace since I had Blaziken at the time.

deoxys2000 August 11th, 2005 11:34 AM

well, for ruby and sapphire, since there was new pokemon i have never seen before, i get all excited and try to catch them all and i screw up my levels and stuff, and i started over and i beat it then and for emerald, ummmmm, i really had no much of problems except trying to get around the fire and phychic gyms XD, then i was shocked when it was Wallace as champ except steven, but since i had a lv. 70 rayquaza and a sceptile, i had no probs.

pokejungle August 11th, 2005 12:05 PM

I'm having trouble finding good pokemon to train x.x;

Right now I'm raising a Ralts and Heracross to dominate the E4...

jc_rcw August 11th, 2005 1:58 PM

It was really hard to beat wallace,I had to train a lot.

Sithre August 11th, 2005 2:24 PM

HMMmmm Ruby was pretty easy. But Emerald might prove to be a challenge...I already know im going to fill out all my pokedex sept Lunatone...and i'll never get cydaquil...*cries :disappoin *

Jirachi3 August 15th, 2005 7:44 AM

I have 36 hours on my game and I'm at tate&liza. What does that tell you

Jordan August 15th, 2005 9:54 AM

Either Liza and Tate, finishing the Pokedex, or capturing Latios or Latias.

Clam August 15th, 2005 10:31 AM

Not much that I could remember. I don't think I had any much difficulties that came across me in R/S not even finding Feebas, took me like a half hour to find one.
The only real difficult thing was in Emerald. Liza and Tate where hard, I had to rebattle them 3 times until I won.

aqonix August 15th, 2005 6:39 PM

I think I had trouble with Fortree gym because of pokemon. I can't really think of anything.

Squeegee Beckenheim August 15th, 2005 6:47 PM

Fortree is especially hard if you never trained an electric or rock type.

Entemo August 16th, 2005 4:51 AM

I found Brawly a right kik in the nads, he just used makuhitas arm thrusts n wiped all ma pokemon out.

The Latios Master August 16th, 2005 5:47 AM

The hardest part for me was actually Catching a Pelliper and an Absol. Thats pretty much it. I took out Groudon in one shot with My Sceptile and Rayquaza i caught with the Master ball. Luckily, i had a Groudon on Coloseum (traded form previous ruby game) so i traded that over and i had a Rayquaza on Colosseum so i have two of them, HAH!

Random Plushie August 16th, 2005 12:19 PM

Hrmz.. Well, in Emerald I found Brawly a bit of an annoyance since my only type match-up at the time was my Taillow. XD
The rest of the Gym Leaders I mostly breezed through, though.

My friend actually had so much trouble gettin' to Rayquaza on the Mach Bike that I had to do it for him. XD

That's because that Milotic is a Metagame standard XD. Surf, Ice Beam, Toxic, Recover.

Anyone notice that? A LOT of the Pokemon use the Metagame standards... combined with their near perfect EVs, natures, IVs, etc.... it makes them a pain to take out.

Anyways, the hardest thing for me is Phoebe of the Elite Four? Why? Because of that DARNED FIRST DUSCLOPS!! I don't know of ANYTHING else that can use Protect FOUR TIMES IN A ROW!! As for everything else... I'll never train Poochyena again... I hate that thing. You train FOREVER with it... and all it gets are +0 stat increases... maybe the rare +1 <_< Never a +2, not even in HP. So, all in all, Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire make it A LOT harder to train than in FR/LG where you can just catch a Spearow and pwn things with Peck and later Aerial Ace and finally Drill Peck.

Random Plushie August 16th, 2005 12:44 PM

^^ Yeah, Spearow ish nice.

All it took for me to pwn Pheobe was my Seviper, or my Banette if I felt like giving her a chance. XD

Bliksem August 16th, 2005 12:51 PM

I USED Banette <_< The poor thing's Shadow Balls kept getting drained by Protect! By the end of the battle, I'd gone from 15 to 3!!

Random Plushie August 16th, 2005 12:53 PM

*has experienced the same thing*

I wish Banette had better Defense. Or more Hp. ^^

Alistair August 16th, 2005 1:07 PM

It took me a while to beat the Elite 4 in Emerald. My best Pokémon were Sceptile lv. 55, Chimecho lv. 43, Gardevoir lv. 57, Shelgon lv.42, Medicham lv. 40, and Jirachi lv. 62.
