Wich is the best starter?...

I've got Blue,Crystal, and ruby but which is the best starter for Blue? just wondering what you think it is...

Iron Mankey June 28th, 2005 9:26 PM

For Red/Blue, it's definitely Bulbasaur. At least if you're a battle-minded person. With an advantage over Rock, Ground and Water types, it breezes through Brock and Misty. As for against Lt.Surge, Electric moves don't hurt Grass types much. And by the time you reach the other Gym Leaders, you'll probably have other Pokémon to handle them.

steel_skarmory June 30th, 2005 9:42 AM

I voted Charmander. That's what I usually start with. I do so because it is easy to find strong poke'mon of other types. Cause there aren't too many strong fire poke'mon out there (in R/B/Y anyway)

Virtual Headache July 4th, 2005 2:30 AM

It's easiest to start with Bulbasaur, because of the Gym Leader's types.
Charmander and Squirtle are also nice to start with though.

Eon-Rider July 4th, 2005 2:35 AM

I always start with Squirtle for some reason...

sasuke-kun July 4th, 2005 3:17 AM

I choose Charmander, cos i love chars XD and charizard is strong yay lol....

ArKiVe July 4th, 2005 4:30 AM

The first time I chose Charmander and it was a heck of a fight to try and take down Brock when I first had my first version (Blue). Then I got my next version which was red I think and chose Squirtle and everything went by way faster. Er, I was never really a big fan of Bulbasaur simply because it looked ugly and had this big flower lookin thing on it's back (yeah, what I thought a long time ago lol). So yeah, I think Squirtle would be the best one to start out with in the R/B games simply because I guess you'd just have an easier start. Just uh, hope Gary doesn't rip ur pokemon's head off.

Charizard_Fire_God July 6th, 2005 5:12 AM

Charmander! It evolves inta Charizard!! It's got more stats points than any other starter, Fire/Flying combo = pwnage unless faced against Rock, Fire Blast accuracy > Hydro Pump accuracy, burns, whatever, ya name it! XD

Espy Psyche July 8th, 2005 10:03 AM

I agree with Charizard Fire God. Charizard is awesome. It has higher speed, attack, and SA than the other two, and it can learn better moves (ex. Wing Attack/Fly vs Venusaur's (I don't really know a Psn type attack move for Venusaur... That is if it learns one that exists in R/B/Y (Sludge Bomb does not). EQ kills enemy Pikachu/Raichu. They come out for an easy OHKO and get OHKO'd themselves.

♪Angel Pikachu♪ July 8th, 2005 10:20 AM

Bulbersuar because he helps you beat the first two gyms.

I'd agree with that
but i personally like charmander cuz of its awesome attack moves like slash (good crit. hits) and seismic toss

Static Raven July 17th, 2005 4:06 PM

In my opinion, Charmander.

freakgirl August 9th, 2005 2:44 AM

bulbasaur is supposed to be the best choice, but i chose squirtle on my red and i did fine. i've had the fire starter pokemon before on other games and it grows into a very poweful pokemon! but squirtle's definately my favourite

Insanity Mawile August 13th, 2005 1:08 AM

Bulba helps you early in the game, but Charmander is a powerhouse later. It's your choice whether you want to train other Pokemon (like Butterfree/Beedrill/Pidgey(otto)). Squirtle's in the middle.

Setsuna Moto August 13th, 2005 1:41 PM

For some reason, I always have picked Squirtle... ever since i first got my blue. I've restarted a lot too.

jc_rcw August 13th, 2005 1:49 PM

i LOVE SQUIRTLE ITS THE BEST:)

Cyndaquil August 13th, 2005 1:59 PM

Well, since I'm a fan of Fire Pokémons, you could guess my starter...
But in batteling thinking, I think Bulbasaur, because of the effextivity against the 2 first gym.

Smarties-chan August 14th, 2005 4:01 AM

Thre is no ''best starter'' all of the starters are good in their own ways, what pokemon you think is the best depends on what sort of pokemon you like ex. Tank, Sweeper or staller. I prefer bulbasaur/ivysaur/venusaur though they are very good tanks.

Inugami August 18th, 2005 4:34 PM

squirtle ALL THE WAY, WATER IS MY FAV. TYPE, next to phychic of course

Yea last time i played squirtle is da best out all em i neva picked nobody else.

Dr. Master August 18th, 2005 11:03 PM

i think chamander is the best

Bliksem August 18th, 2005 11:09 PM

I am a dedicated Grass-type user. I have NEVER started a game (with the exception of Crystal, and I'd already played Gold) without choosing the Grass-type starter. I know that I dislike the water-starters with a passion. Blastoise is boring, Feraligatr is just weird, and Swampert... well, let's just say I only got it to Marshstomp before I reset the game XD

Dr. Master August 18th, 2005 11:12 PM

but u started new game on the 1 u got marshstomp. i always start with fire pkm

Bliksem August 18th, 2005 11:17 PM

You can only find out if you like a Pokemon if you try it in battle. I decided I did not like the Water-starter so I restarted. It's really simple. I'll even list it for you.

Blue- Bulbasaur
Yellow- Pikachu (not much of a choice here)
Red- Bulbasaur
Gold- Chikorita
Silver- Don't own (sister started with Totodile)
Crystal 1- Cyndaquil (I own two Crystals)
Crystal 2- Chikorita (Kept unevolved throughout the whole game)
Ruby- Treeko
Sapphire- Treeko
Sapphire Reset- Torchic
Sapphire Reset 2- Mudkip
Sapphire Reset 3- Treeko
Sapphire Reset 4- Treeko
Emerald- Treeko
Emerald Reset- Torchic
Leaf Green- Bulbasaur
Leaf Green Reset- Charmander
Leaf Green Reset 2- Squirtle
Leaf Green Reset 3- Bulbasaur (kept unevolved throught the whole game)
Leaf Green Reset 4- Charmander

shadow909 August 24th, 2005 12:45 PM

mine is bubasaur cause ive notice at the beggining hes stronger than squirtle and charmander

pokevesh August 24th, 2005 9:15 PM

For starters it would definately be Bulbasaur coz it's alot easier to beat Brock and Misty with it. However, for later on in the game I think it would be better to have Charizard (so you start with Charmander obviously)

Random Plushie August 24th, 2005 9:26 PM

I like Bulbasaur best outta the originals.

..although I am forever dedicated to Swampert. ^^

CardsOfTheHeart August 25th, 2005 6:12 AM

each starter has its own qualities, but i would like to think of it in terms of the gyms they would be good and bad at based on type matchups:

pewter: bulba-best, squirt-best, char-bad; winner: bulba & squirt
cerulean: bulba-good, squirt-neutral, char-bad; winner: bulba
vermilion: bulba-good, squirt-bad, char-neutral; winner: bulba
celadon: bulba-neutral, squirt-bad, char-good; winner: char
fuchsia: bulba-bad, squirt-neutral, char-neutral; winner: squirt & char
saffron: bulba-bad, squirt-neutral, char-neutral; winner: squirt & char
cinnabar: bulba-bad, squirt-good, char-neutral; winner: squirt
viridian: bulba-good, squirt-best, char-worst; winner: squirt

1st half winner: bulbasaur
2nd half winner: squirtle
AND THE WINNER IS: SQUIRTLE!!!

ok, ok, whatever. :\ bulbasaur's good at the beginning, charmander's good in the middle, and squirtle's good at the end. so... take your pick.

baptman August 27th, 2005 7:17 AM

For me bulbasaur, he help you beat the two gym leader...
later i can train stronger pokemon

Datriot August 31st, 2005 1:55 AM

I think Charmander is the best, I tihkn it takes more EXP then the other 2 but it has the best moves and stats in my opinion.

Dragonair-kun September 4th, 2005 2:06 AM

Charmander or Bulbasaur, Charizard has the strongest attack stats, Venusaur is more focused on special attacks, Blastoise, I'm not really sure. All are equal on it's stats. So, it'd be Bulbasaur ^_^

Agent9 September 4th, 2005 1:41 PM

Well techically. The best starter would be bulbasaur. Better than Brock and Misty's Gym because both gyms are weak to Bulbasaur. The Third Gym leader has electric. which Bulbasaur is resistant to

Pokemaster1110 September 16th, 2005 11:51 PM

Truthfully, Bulbasaur is the best "early game" starter because he:

>KO's Brock's Pokemon
>KO's Misty's Pokemon and is resistant to them
>Is resistant to Lt. Surge's Pokemon

Squrtle is also nice but I am a big picture, long term guy, and so I stick with Charmander because of these reasons:

>Blastoise is a nice Pokemon, but Lapras and Gyrados are better
>Grass is not a useful type, and Venusaur has a bad set of moves
>Charizard is the best fire type in the game

Some may argue on the last point. Let me address the possible arguments.

>"Moltres is way stronger!" - This may be true, but Moltres has bad moves. I can't remember if he learns Flamethrower or not, but even if he does, its his only good attack. Fire Blast is too inacurate to rely on as your fire type attack.
>"Arcanine is strong too!" - Also true. But can Arcanine fly? No. Does he learn Flamethrower? No.

The exception to all this is Magmar, who is a great pokemon, but can only be found in Blue and is not easy to get or raise. Stick with Charmander through those 1st two gyms (use them to get experience for your other pokemon) and you'll be glad you did.

Minako September 16th, 2005 11:58 PM

In my personal opinion, Squirtle is the best of them.

... Though, game-wise, Bulbasaur wins. xP It's awesome for Gym battles, and there's lots of places in the game where it comes in handy, like getting through Rock Tunnel and beating Team Rocket [because of his Poison qualities].

Shadox September 20th, 2005 4:47 AM

I would usualy take Charmander as it can get you past most battles.Bulbasaur is good.

Mr.Mime September 20th, 2005 10:18 AM

I think Charmander but if Pika was there there would be no competition

Hinoshi-chan September 24th, 2005 11:47 PM

It has to be charmander, its the best pokemon to start with, and the funnest , though now it can learn metal clawin the later game...it seems easy -_-''

~Amethyst_Callista_Moon~ September 25th, 2005 8:00 AM

Start with Squirtle. If you clear the game with him, you can clear the game in FR/LG.

Cooltrainer Lance October 1st, 2005 6:45 AM

To tell the truth I'm not a big water starter fan either. :\

Out of the three water's I'd pick mudkip because he's part ground. I'm a huge charmander fan in FrLg and R/B. Bulbasaur is okay but I'd definitely pick Charmander. ;)

weirdo1 April 22nd, 2006 6:09 PM

Personally..ill trade my starter and start with mew
