I'm not a big fan of peanut butter unless it's with chocolate. I just find Nutella disgusting.

how long until we reach 420 pages in the dcc
i know we can do it guys i believe in you all!! |
Doesn't it start to get slow after a certain amount of pages though?
But it's a goal! |
Believes in reaching page 419, and then getting locked.

I'll remember to do that.

Seems like I picked a good page to come back to.

OMG HI
MISSED YOU TOO |
Drew!! Hi!!

Keep him well fed and you can probably tame him
|
This needs a bump! How are y'all? What are you up to this week?
|
I’m fine. Not doing very much this week, just taking it easy!
|
I think my blood levels are dangerously low but there's a crisis in my country's hospitals...

Iron. My hemoglobin is normal but I go to the hospital monthly to get iron infusions but it seemingly won't budge.
|
The best types of dentist visits are the ones where you go to your appointment, don't need to wait for too long, get stuff checked out real quick and then get told that we'll see each other again in half a year.
|
Can't argue with that, the cost of dental work is painful. I need to have a couple of fillings fixed - the price of not being able to go for over a year thanks to the pandemic - and I have no idea where I'm going to find the money. Glad to hear your appointment went well though!
|
The UK doesn't have public healthcare? I can never remember which country has and which hasn't. Except for the US because that country is just the prime example of "we don't need no health". xD
|
It does, but NHS dental care is absolutely disgusting. When my wisdom teeth came through badly in my 20s, they wanted me to go to hospital for extractions! Knowing full well that I have a phobia of hospitals. Compare that to my private dentist who had them out within a 30 minute local appointment on the same day. Both times. Sure, I had to pay quite a bit for it, but you get what you pay for.
Outside of prescription costs, the quality of NHS healthcare matches what you would expect from a free service. I know I should be more grateful that it's there at all considering the astronomical costs of healthcare elsewhere, but...well, my experiences with the NHS in recent years haven't exactly been positive, and my private services have always treated me like an actual person. I will grumble about the cost - like I do about most things - but I'll pay it when the alternative is either to go without entirely or to engage with something that has been proven to make me feel worse. |
Yeah, private insurances are kinda expected to put a little bit of effort into providing good services. I've never had private insurance but I've never had anything really serious. Although, I'm pretty sure that once the first serious matter arised things will come crashing down really badly. I'm not known for treating my body particularly well. xD
And yeah, hospitals kinda suck. There's something really isolating about them...and all the cables that are put into people. ^^" |
Yeah, if they don't provide a good service, then they don't get any business! I'm not insured or anything - although I think my work offers it, I've never looked into it - but generally speaking, I've always had a better service if I've paid for it. After my recent fiasco with my prescription I'd love to go private with that if I could, but buying it privately would cost me around £400 per month...compared to the £10.81 my prepayment certificates costs me on the NHS. Yeaaaah. Nope.
I've had more nightmares than I care to count about having tubes stuck into me...being confined to a bed, bored out of my mind...that horrible antiseptic smell...people around me being physically ill...yeah. I'd rather be dead. I don't care how irrational that is. There is nowhere worse than a hospital. |
I was removing some of the pictures I had hanging on a wall. I had them glued up there with these removable gum things. But two of these places I ended up tearing part of the tapestry out. So now I have two small holes that I'll probably have to cover in some way so I don't need to stare at it.
Either the people who sold that stuff were lying or the people who renovated the place before I moved in did a poor job. :( |
Canada is in a healthcare crisis. People are dying waiting for the ambulance or to see a doctor. Hospitals here are backed up for days and patients are being mishandled as a result but no one's doing anything.
We have neither dental nor prescription care here. EDIT: I am so good at plastering up holes. We installed a lot of grab bars in our apartment for my step father but when we moved out, there was no sign they were there! |
Sometimes I wonder if the world is getting worse or if we're just more aware of it because of how easy it is for information to spread these days via social media and the internet etc.
I have never been particularly good at DIY...I can't even assemble IKEA furniture, haha. It's actually harder than some people make it out to be! Or maybe I'm just not very handy. |
Build it yourself furniture is hard and not as hard bearing as desks/shelves that are whole.
I'm using a desk that must be 40 years old, still good as new. I think it's just that information spreads quicker. But our individualist western society doesn't help anyone. |
Kind of feels right to make my 30,000th post in here!
So... how is the weather fam? ;) |
Well, it’s pretty nice where I live.
I worked yesterday and today, now I have the week off. (I always rest/sleep-in on Mondays) |

I'm trying very hard to just ignore the forecasts for this week. I went to pieces during the last heatwave and I don't think I can cope physically or mentally with a second.
Fuck summer. |
Spending a day with 36°C at work and that multiple times and never getting anything done is a good summary of what I think of this Summer. Doesn't help that Europe is trapped in a drought since at least 2018 so rain is very scarce.
|
Hot, but I feel like the last couple years were worse, here at least.
It's been cloudy and/or windy regularly last several weeks, which helps tremendously. |
Some fuckhead lit a fire near my house in 28 degree weather, this was on Saturday.
Never been so nervous. |
It's been a heatwave here, but it seems to be getting better now. I personally am ready for sweater weather and pumpkin spiced coffee. Lol.
|
It's cool now. Compared to other places, we've had a cold summer.
|
Today is, I hope, the last day we'll have temperatures like this. The short, sharp heatwave we had in July made me extremely ill, but I recovered from it quickly, it was mostly just an extremely bad migraine that wore off after a good night sleep and a 10 degree drop in temperature. This time its affected my IBS, has persisted for the whole week, and honestly I don't think I could endure much more of it. I don't want to rush this month since I'm on holiday for the rest of it, but...well, the sooner summer is gone, the better. Its been horrific this year.
|
I like summer simply because there's no snow. It looses its novelty when you grow up.
|
We're right in the middle of yet another heat wave. I already hated Summer before heatwaves started to be a regular thing. We haven't had a proper Winter in years. It's always been way to mild. I also still prefer snow over sweating at work for days while still being forced to be productive.
Trying to sleep is so awfully unpleasant, as well. <_< |
tbh if I had my way it would rain all year round and the temperature would never go above 15C.
Too bad I can't afford to move to Scotland where this is a reality xD |
We're getting severe rain here tonight!
Hopefully after I come home from work. |
The US has been doing a fun thing here lately where some places are experiencing historic drought while other parts get hit with historic flooding. Meanwhile in my part of the country it's seemed pretty normal I guess. Though it's probably only a matter of time before extreme weather becomes the usual here too.
|
I read today that the artic is heating up nearly four times faster than the rest of the planet.
https://www.npr.org/2022/08/11/1116608415/the-arctic-is-heating-up-nearly-four-times-faster-than-the-rest-of-earth-study-f The damage that humankind is doing to the environment is unforgivable, and soon will be unrepairable if we don't change how we live. |
I think it's actually too late at this point? I remember reading it somewhere.
This is going to sound lame but this planet gives us everything, yet we're destroying it. ("We" here being humans in general but we all know it's multi-billion dollar companies/people.) |
Quote:
And corporations are actually aware. And they use that knowledge to figure out how they can make profit off of the Antarctic, already. <_< |
I suppose the attitude people have is that we'll all be long dead before things become "serious" - in the sense that it affects us on a level where it becomes personally inconvenient in how we want to live - so we don't have to care about it. Out of sight, out of mind, etc.
This is a recurring trend in human behaviour, because it also applies to the housing market, transportation, and the economy in general, amongst other things. |
Too late or not, I see no point in speeding it up even if it was!
Also nature has a wonderful way of bouncing back when left alone <3 All our governments and peoples need to try harder tbh. |

Yes, the oil and gasindustry knows the damage that they are doing, just like the tobacco industry knew that the cigarettes they were making gave people cancer, but tried to suppress the information and mislead people about the scientific data, so they could keep making money. In the case of the oil and gas industry Exxon Mobil's own scientists knew since at least 1970s how burning fossil fuels was affecting climate change, but poured tens of millions of dollars into groups to promote psuedo science and climate change denial, and fight regulations. |

It's a tactic meant to demotivate people until they give up. It's at that point that people need to be reminded that while keeping a low profile is good, most of the problem is still systemic. |
They care so much about money, but will money help them when the consequences show?
You can't buy a healthy planet. |
The sad part is: their money will most likely help them. As long as money gets you resources, having a lot of money will get you a lot of resources. They'll just build more convenient stuff that keeps the consequences out for long enough so they can enjoy their life. It's the others who'll have to live with the consequences. And the time when the consequences catch up to them is so far away; they'll just be dead at that point, anyway. <_<
|
According to a new study in the next 30 years climate change is going to really heat things up in the USA, and we should expect an "extreme heat belt" from Texas to Illinois with temps climbing higher than 125°F for at least some part of the year.
https://www.axios.com/2022/08/15/extreme-heat-belt-global-warming |
I live in a really low lying province. Apparently if the water levels rise enough, it could just vanish.
|
DCC September club!
How is everyone doing? I'm kind of looking forward to autumn right now! well except for not being able to pay my energy bills like so many of us this year |
I'll miss the warm weather, but it's easier to sleep in the cold lol
|
I hate Summer but climate change has made it even worse. This year was another one of these "record temperature" years, as well. <_<
|
Summer just completely vanished as soon as September started here.
|
We've had heavy rain and thunder for the last three nights and it has been absolutely glorious. I am so glad summer is over.
Not too happy about paying extra into the energy bills, but who knows, maybe our fourth Conservative PM will fix some of what the previous three have royally fucked up over the last decade and a bit...maybe. |
It's still hot summery weather here, though definitely not near the peak temperatures.
Though it did rain heavily last night and a bit in the afternoon today. The summer heat can't go away soon enough for me. |
Quote:
I heard of the huge costs of it approaching. :< |
Quote:
To put it into perspective I'm not in full scale panic mode or anything - we shouldn't have to make a choice about whether to eat or whether to have the heating on this winter or anything, which I know is a choice that's going to be on the minds of many. As long as we're careful it shouldn't be a huge deal. At least for the moment. Long term, though? It's just...not good. Honestly I'm more worried about my grandparents than I am about myself, they've both been ill recently (my grandfather just got out of hospital and god he has aged so much since I last saw him...) and they're going to be moving down here, which is going to put a strain on their resources. |

Each province has control of everything in that province here. The federal government doesn't do much in terms of capping prices/healthcare/education.
Our power is about 400 every two months. |
Praying everyone in the path of hurricane Ian are all safe, and that it passes without causing too much damage ❤️
|
It's chilling seeing some of the news videos of the wind damage in Florida, and the satellite images of the lightning storm over Cuba. Sending some love to everyone in affected areas or who has loved ones affected. Thank you for your kind words also Taylor and for keeping everybody close in your thoughts.
My area is expecting some fall out from hurricane Ian. I'm a couple of states away, and I think it's suppose to be downgraded to a tropical storn now as it hits my way over in the Carolinas and Georgia, though the hurricane tracker keeps changing the report, upgrading and downgrading it, so that may change again. At present though it hasn't gotten bad where I live, which isn't on the coast, though flooding and power loss is anticipated here too later, right now it's just constant wind and some rain. I stocked up on food to be prepared, charged up what electronics I've got, have fresh water ready, got a flash light and lanterns, a first aid kit , medicine, batteries and other things in case of emergency, so I should be okay |
We recently had Fiona here. Cape Breton and coastal NL were just decimated.
|
I'm really sorry that Canada experienced such devastation from Hurricane Fiona Sandalphon. I hope that neither you or any of your loved ones were harmed, or had any property damage. I have heard that there are thousands of people in Puerto Rico who are still without power now due to Fiona.
It's sad seeing what's happening around the world right now like all the flooding in Pakistan from the glacial melt and monsoon season. It's hard for me to even grasp a concept like a third of the country being plunged underwater :( |
Ty! There's still thousands without power and I agree. The Pakistan floods were insane, the water in Florida is getting /deeper/ because it has no place to go, South Carolina is a swamp now. Also, the entire coast of PEI was changed.
|
Between covid and this crazy weather, I think the world is slowly coming to an end. Sadly enough.
I hate to be miss negative nancy, but what other conclusion can I come to? I'm 36 years old now. We just got to live life to it's fullest at this point. Oh, and prayers for those affected by these horrible conditions. It's still a very sad situation. In other news...should I enter the Scarlet/Violet giveaway here? I might get the game from my Dad as an early Christmas present, but I don't want to burn a 60 dollar hole in his wallet. Taking me on vacation for a week and a half is a big enough haul for him. It's also tradition that every time I see him, I get a new pair of Sketchers, so that's a thing. o_O; I'm not even going to bother to ask Mom. Don't ask. |
Quote:

My dad and step mom both had COVID but made full recoveries! I didn't know but I'm glad.
|
I'll enter the giveaway I guess, but only because I really want a copy of either Violet or Scarlet. Idk what version I want tbh.
Ugh. I have to go to my mom's house Thursday night and i'm staying there until Sunday night for a stupid family event. Totally not looking forward to it. Help. D: In other news, my crush is showing a little interest in me. We might hang out some time in November due to conflicting schedules in October. We'll see. Wish me luck I guess. *shrug* And I also have...homework for lack of better words. The behavior intervention specialist in my program said he wanted me to process on paper a whole page on my feelings about why i'm so upset over this family event this weekend. But honestly, I can't do it anymore. I'm sorry dude, how much do you want me to say? *sigh* Well I can't help how upset he'll be. I don't care really anymore. |
I'd rather just buy it myself when it comes out, guarantee.
I'll wait until early December, when I get 20% off at work. |
