Oh no!

I have only one skirt, myself, but they're comfy.

RadEmpoleon April 18th, 2021 6:51 PM

Genuine question (well 2 actually): how do you stay focused on homework/tasks/etc., and how do you work on homework/tasks when you're not motivated at all? Because this has been my struggle in school since last year, and I think it's gotten worse since then. I'm hoping to stop it before it gets out of hand, especially since I'll be going to college next year.

Sothis April 19th, 2021 2:04 AM

That's hard because I don't know how your thought processes work but maybe reward yourself when you finish? I'm assuming you'll take a course you enjoy in college so it may not be as bad.

colours April 19th, 2021 4:04 AM

i can only really speak for my own methods, but i struggle with motivation a lot. the biggest hurdle in getting anything done is getting started, and i kinda just... force myself. once i get past that mountainous challenge of actually bothering to start on any given task, the rest somehow becomes easier for me? like, i'm already in the mindset of getting something done, so i might as well do it to get the weight off my back.

but that's how i function. i tend to just reluctantly push through my tasks because i don't want them piling on too much and overwhelming me.

Sothis April 19th, 2021 8:16 PM

Yeah, I usually just force myself with "it'll be worse if you don't do this thing" type of speech.
But as someone with depression, my motivation simply doesn't exist.

Taemin April 22nd, 2021 9:18 AM

I don't know if it's still being thought about, but I agree with the rewards thing! I've always struggled with motivation, and I learned I just have to move. Just start physically doing it, or else my brain will wanna stare blankly at a screen all day. Sometimes I have to mentally yell at myself, if I start and keep stopping, even. Pushing myself to move and get tasks done is really my main way of accomplishing things. Plus giving myself small rewards! Food based treats, or starting a new series, or going some place even close by that I enjoy. Some of my rewards are things some people might take for granted, but I try not to... lol

I dunno if this helps everyone, but it's all I know to suggest.

Sothis April 23rd, 2021 1:36 AM

Know that feeling. I've managed to get a dentist appointment but they only had one slot available. If I didn't take it it was another three month wait.

And I dont care that its 10.30pm. Im having some cereal.

Sothis April 23rd, 2021 5:33 PM

I have a dentist, thankfully.
I'll get a cleaning hopefully soon.

colours April 23rd, 2021 6:07 PM

last time i went to a dentist (which was a few months ago) i was quoted $3-4k for the procedures i'll have to do on two of my teeth. @[email protected];

at that point i was like..... yeah i'd rather wait until i have insurance again cause going to the dentist w/o insurance isn't worth it haha.

ZeoStar April 23rd, 2021 8:43 PM

I had a dentist put the x-ray thing into my throat. Instead of taking quickly taking the picture and removing it, she decided to go chat with her coworkers for what felt like 10 minutes. I have a terrible gag reflex, it was probably one of the most stressful things I had ever felt. Anything dentist related since then gives me severe anxiety.

Sothis April 23rd, 2021 9:32 PM

Oh, I hate those.
I would have just removed it myself, tbh. I also have a bad gag reflex.

Starlight April 24th, 2021 2:13 AM

This is a scary topic for me. I need to go to the dentist, I have a lot of pain rn. I bit into something too hard, and it cracked my tooth right at the back.

Dentists here were closed, or impossible to see anyway, throughout lockdown. Mine is back open now, but I'm still putting off making an appointment because of my head problems.

I haven't seen the dentist since before I got rushed to A&E last year, and the situation is absolutely terrifying me. I can't lie down properly, I can't look up, and I certainly can't tip my head back. I don't know what to do, and it's causing me a ridiculous amount of stress thinking about it.

I can't not go, but I can't go, if that makes sense.

Nah April 24th, 2021 4:15 AM

I haven't been to the dentist in a few years now, since haven't had dental insurance ever since I had to get off of my parent's health insurance. Was fortunately able to get 3 of my wisdom teeth removed while I was still on my parent's health insurance though.

~Dill~ April 24th, 2021 6:30 AM

Yeh I've not been for a while myself but my last wisdom tooth is causing me some bother and im in a fair bit of pain with it. I just hope it doesn't cost too much to get it sorted 😅

Is there a way they can accommodate you? Like a pillow or something?

Dentistry here isn't covered by the government and is ridiculously expensive. I have insurance and still needed to pay $110.

I'm not sure what they can do tbh. I once knew someone that had to get knocked for treatment, but that definitely wouldn't be an option for me even if it was available. Nobody is gonna give me an anesthetic unless absolutely necessary due to other medical conditions. I will just have to talk it through with them I guess.

It can be pretty expensive here too, even with the National Health Service, depending on what you do or don't qualify for. Still nowhere near as bad as a lot of countries though!

Would listening to music help? I know when I've had MRIs and CT Scans they've played music. Maybe ask?

I wish we had something like that because the provinces have wayyy to much autonomy and it's insane. The federal government needs to put regulations in place.

I had a CT scan once but I can't for the life of me put my arms above my head laying down.

Not for this particular problem unfortunately :/

I can't have my head in certain positions due to my brainstem getting squished. It's also caused some spinal problems, particularly up at my neck. To give you an idea of how sensitive it is, I have to stand nearly all day because my spine feels like its compressing, causing me to start feeling very ill, whenever I sit or even if sit up while lying down.

I just can't see how I'm gonna do it tbh ;(

The music definitely helps with MRIs though! I had a major meltdown last time I got one on my brain. I ended up in tears and they had to get me out of there. I felt so bad for them because I was holding them up and causing so many issues. Focusing on the music definitely helped get me through it once they convinced me to go back in :)

Our health service is heading that way. It's pretty much dying rn.

I'm not sure if I've had a CT scan tbh, they always shove me in the tunnel of doom. That sounds horrible, I hope you don't need another one any time soon :)

Ahhhh OK I understand now. Sorry. Hopefully if you need an appointment they will accommodate you in the best possible way.

The way I remember it is an MRI is very loud and a CT has a smaller tunnel. I've had both and hate both!

You're kidding? Ash, each time I talk to you I find something more in common. In my L5 (it's been a while.. 17 years+ so mind my lack of detail) vertebra I have a nerve that pinches when I slouch. I started with it being hard and painful breathe on my left side but after ignoring it the entire left side of my body started just... not functioning.

I've now learned to fix my posture over the years but every once in a while I'll clip that nerve wrong and it's like my left side goes into spasms.

Anyway I've been fortunate enough to stay out of the ER for... real emergencies, baring some broken bones and karate injuries. But I'll tell you right now this vaccine is kicking my b u t t.

It's beyond saving in my province, they neglected my step father's heart condition and he died as a result.

You may have! It's like a donut and they slide you through.

Awww I was the same but I've really started to appreciate them more since getting my mantids. Im still terrified of spiders though 😫

colours April 27th, 2021 5:34 PM

as a kid, i used to admire spiders. i read a lot of books about them (and i mean a lot). i was less afraid of them and more curious about them, if anything.

shame how as i've gotten older, that part of me has faded away. nowadays, although i appreciate the role that spiders have in our environment, i'd still rather stay away from them lmao

Sothis April 27th, 2021 6:26 PM

Fluffy moths keep me going.

Spiders are the only creepy crawlie things I don't kill, because they trap flies and stuff. We get woodbugs every summer and they're too big so I have to kill them as I see them. They're ugly as hell.

~Dill~ April 28th, 2021 12:12 AM

Ugh woodbugs are bleh! I know where you're coming from.

Yeh I wish I wasn't scared of spiders. Its definitely a fear over just not liking them. Though I never kill them. I scoop them up in a cup and place them outside if they come in. Still spooks me though. God forbid I see an Australian spider. I'd nope the fudge out of there 😂.

Starlight April 28th, 2021 3:49 AM

I am ridiculously terrified of spiders! 😱

My partner also is, but makes me deal with them, even though I'm just as scared as she is 😑

I once held a tarantula (does Chilean Rose sound right to you spider buffs?) when I was a kid though, being really brave (or stupid). Another kid from the group started coughing on it as it was in my hands. The animal handler firmly told them to stop but they kept doing it... the tarantula proceeded to take off at speed up my arm. I panicked, and ended up dropping the poor thing. The handler couldn't pick it up because it had fangs out or whatever it was they said. Everyone had to leave.

There was actually a little spider in a box from America that was delivered today. I'm assuming the spider made it into the box here in the UK, but I couldn't take the chance that it was a foreign species so I had to do the deed :(

Yup Chilean Rose is a fairly common species. Its annoying when people act like that. Hope you and the spider were OK. Tarantulas can deliver a pretty nasty bite but most are really chilled. I actually quite like tarantulas because they don't tend to move fast and they have Diddy eyes. And I dont mind jumping spiders. The ones that really freak me out are house, wolf, huntsman and ogre spiders. *shudders*. And that's fair!! If it was an American species its always best to stop it in its tracks before it becomes invasive so kudos to you there.

That sucks! I hope they reconsider that. Pets are an essential part of life imo. Have you thought about something other than a floof?

I haven't had any house pets since my last dog died a few years ago, despite living in an absolutely perfect place, mainly because my partner is allergic, and I also haven't felt well enough to look after one the last few years :(

I have to make do with all the cats in the area loving me for some strange reason, I am the cat crazy whisperer around these parts 😊

~Dill~ May 1st, 2021 7:13 AM

Yeh I grew up with no animals and being an animal lover this sucked! But my neighbours always had cats so I befriended them 😂. Then my folks gave in and got me a goldfish who surprisingly lived for 13 years (I took good care of him). I was always bringing in snails and other creepy crawlies into the house and called them "pets". But now I've got my own place I've got a few critters but I can't have any fluffy babies.

And LOL Ash that's EXACTLY what I do! I've befriended all the cats and dogs round here. I cant walk to work without saying hello to 5 different animals XD.

Urgh!!! I hate irresponsible dog owners. I've had a few confrontations with people allowing their dog to poo on our front lawn. If you have a dog you have to pick up after it. If you're not going to then don't own one.

It's probably nothing, my financial stuff, such as credit cards etc. seem to get locked all the blooming time.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you :) 🤞

I called them and they told me that I apparently locked my online banking account (I didn't). I then proceeded to use the wrong contact form because they needed my signature. Then they called me that I had used the wrong form so I had to fill out another one. Then they called me again telling me that my handwriting was off (which it was because I filled it out on the PC using my mouse), so they asked me about a secret number. I gave them the number and now my account is unlocked again...for the time being.

All the while slaving away at my job while hoping to get it back. <_<

At least you're back in! In these situations I comfort myself with the fact that, if I can't even use my account, how the heck will a criminal? 🤣

The saying you locked it thing is worrying though... are they looking into it for you?

ZeoStar May 4th, 2021 8:40 AM

As a child, I joined a forum and one of the first things I did was guess another persons password. He jokingly made a post hinting his the password to his account, and I guess wasn't excepting someone to actually decipher it.

I did the worst possible thing as an 11 year old, went on his account and made a topic saying "hey guys i guessed this guys password, who wants it"? (it was locked but quickly spread to like 10 people). Later someone told me I could go to jail, being a kid that made me unbelievably scared. I thought someone was going to knock on our door. So I told my mother, who told me I wouldn't be allowed to socialize online if I didn't behave.

This is way too much but banks are like that.

And our landlady has the heat on until like June. Hell's Kitchen.

Dusk May 4th, 2021 8:26 PM

My nearby bank I have gone to for years is shutting that branch down tomorrow. :(

~Dill~ May 5th, 2021 1:45 AM

I dislike the heat as I suffer from bad headaches, but I could do with a bit of warm weather now.

And urgh if work is like it was yesterday I think I'm going to loose it.

Lack of proper hydration?

It was much better today thanks. Think some of the kids that were acting up yesterday had had a talking to.

It's possible but due to a medical condition, I loose more salt through my skin than the average joe. So when it's hot you sweat more and for me that means more salt loss. It's linked to hydration but despite keeping hydrated as much as I can during hot weather, I still suffer from bad headaches :(.

Yeh I'm a puzzle and a half 😂. Sorry for waffling.

Sothis May 5th, 2021 5:37 PM

My uncle dehydrated one from lack of water intake, same as my sister.
My sister has three little ones, so we told her to keep healthy for them. She was rushed during work.

I have anemia, so I need all the blood and iron I can get. Just red blood cells though, whites are fine.

Several branches in the city remain but this is just one of many businesses I used being annihilated in the wake of coronavirus.

Starlight May 6th, 2021 1:28 AM

Another member of the dehydration club here, no matter how much I drink :(

Just about to head out the door, I hope everyone has a fantastic day 😊

Sothis May 6th, 2021 2:12 AM

Oh I get dry so easily, but drink a lot = pee a lot :c

Ugh! Hospital later so they can check out why my stomach is acting up the way it is....I know they are just helping but I honestly CBA with prodding and poking today after a rather stressful few days.

Oh and I also have a bruise the size of Antartica on my leg after walking into the side of the bed last night after visiting the bathroom. I such a klutz 😂

Sothis May 6th, 2021 4:32 PM

I was referred to a specialist for my stomach, I hope I get in soon.
Things been at it for two years.

ahhh I hope you get seen soon too ; ;

Stomachs are a pain. Literally haha. Mine's been acting up a bit lately, but that's due to anxiety.

Megan May 7th, 2021 2:49 AM

I drink a lot of water because I used to get kidney stones all the time. Fortunately it has left me alone since which also means that the amounts of times I got hospitalized since decreased significantly. xD

My stomach is fine, fortunately. I might get gallstones somewhere at some point, though. When they did some blood tests for the psychology stuff they said that this is a possibility that should be checked out some time in the future.

Sothis May 7th, 2021 5:02 PM

Everything's backed up due to COVID but as long as I do get in I'll keep hoping.
They originally suspected gallstones with me.

Megan May 10th, 2021 2:51 AM

I hope things turn out well for you! :)

Sheep May 10th, 2021 4:35 AM

All the best to you <3

I'm thinking of having my dental cleaning here in South Africa instead of waiting until July when I'll be back in US. It's 6 months as of this month. Not going to have much time there before I have to leave again, and cleanings are only around $20 or so here for the uninsured? Will save me time for sure. But the dentist that's literally in the building right next to ours is closed until the 17th aaaaaaa

Nice!! Here they're like ~$100 WITH MY INSURANCE!
Feels bad.

Meganium May 10th, 2021 4:22 PM

Goodness. I paid $400 for a periodontal treatment last month...and that's with insurance. And I sprained my leg last weekend, too. That's a whole 'nother $300 for the urgent care visit.

Ugh. 'Murica.

Aslan May 10th, 2021 4:30 PM

Healthcare in America sounds like a nightmare with how expensive it is :( Wishing everyone the best with their health. I've always felt very fortunate to live in Australia as our healthcare system is quite good. That being said, medical costs are not fun at all. I had to be transported in an ambulance when I was 16 and I think that was $500 just for the ambulance ride alone. I also had surgery this year so I could breathe better but honestly after hearing some of the costs other people experience, I feel very fortunate that it was only $3,000 but its sad how procedures that improve basic quality of life can be so expensive even after insurance.

My heart also really goes out to people who don't have the means to afford therapy, for me it was just impractical to have long-term because it cost so much but I was able to go and get quite a few sessions free when I was in HS because I was a minor at the time.

Sothis May 10th, 2021 4:34 PM

I live in Canada, the quality of healthcare varies depending on the province but it's overall bad.

Yikes I hope not and hope you're ok. My stomach is still very sore :(. Yuck.

I dont wish to moan but ive been feeling rotten lately. I've been in constant pain and work has been really hard (kids thinking they can get away with things that they may do at home but certainly not in school). I just want to sleep for a year.

Sheep May 12th, 2021 5:22 AM

Awww Dill, all the best to you too ;_; You're not moaning, it's good to talk about these things! Kids are so tough to handle sometimes, major props to you for being able to do it!

Not a teacher per say. Im a Playworker and help out in after hours, clubs and with animal sciences 😅

TwilightBlade May 14th, 2021 3:44 PM

My co-worker got covid and missed like three weeks of work. He also had the first dose of the vaccine. His doctor had told him that the dose pretty much saved his life. It made his symptoms worse than they could have been, but he still had a very rough experience. He still has a shortness of breath. I just started getting caught up with work. @[email protected] /accounting

One day away from the lifting of certain restriction here in the UK. I think even restaurants are even opening. I hope they haven't done it too early again this time...

Also really looking forward to Eurovision, it's been a long two years since the last one!

How is everyone today? 😊

colours May 15th, 2021 4:02 PM

doing alright, today! today has been a pretty relaxing c: contemplating on either doing some gaming or napping or something.

Caite-chan May 15th, 2021 4:11 PM

Great day to be off from work. It was super nice out and I didn't have to be stuck at work looking out the door wishing I was home...lol.
