And to this day, I've never found a single random shiny on cartridge... only on emulators, while doing challenges or hack rom runs :eleanorangry:

All my first shines are long gone. The downside of cartridges that make the battery run out due to an internal clock.

I did find two shinies. A red Gyarados in Silver, and another red Gyarados in SoulSilver. I'm very lucky I got twice the same shiny on two different versions 🤔

Pfff, I found one in Gold, Crystal and SoulSilver. And what's more: it was even in the same area. Now that is rare! :D

maggers August 10th, 2021 10:27 AM

239030 i rarely find random shinies but ive shiny hunted a few times. i think from random encounters, i found a shiny golbat, shiny spearow (leafgreen), shiny wailmer (omegaruby) only 3 after many years of playing pokemon but then randomly a few years ago on my sapphire i found 3 shinies in 3 days! (wurmple, poochyena and taillow)

First shiny ever for me was a shiny Hariyama in Emerald. Had the odd shiny in a couple games since. Shiny magnemite (evolved to Magneton) and a shiny graveler in HG. Shiny Foongus evolved to Amoonguss in Black. Shiny Ariados in Moon.
And then in Shield I for the first time obtained a shiny charm and things have been nuts, already got 7 random wild shinies 😂

Same I think. I actually done really well with shiny pokemon in gen 3, I think I found 4 or 5 in one game.

The first shiny I ever seen was my partner's in gold. It was a geodude and she noticed it was a slightly strange colour (not easy to spot on a GBC or whatever we played it on) so she caught it. We didn't know about them until then. The battery died as it does on all gen 2 carts 😢

aww... i'm sorry to hear about the batteries!
That reminds me though... I believe there's a video on the net or something but I've heard of someone finding like two shiny Graveler in a row and both using Self Destruct before they could be caught... that's just heart-wrenching :(

I couldn't find the original video but I found someone mentioning it (go to 17:03).

In order obtained: Cutiefly, Mime Jr., Wobbuffet, Stufful, Chewtle, Heatmor & Cubchoo
Also caught: Pheromosa, Dunsparce, Aurorus & Hatterene in Dynamax Adventures (as well as a Maractus, but I traded that away).
I've also been shiny breeding a lot, but that list is too dang long lol

Shiny Self killers are the bane of anyone who encounters them I think =(
People usually don't have a mon with Damp on their team by default.

Kabutops is the worst shiny form in my opinion... Like, why flashy green? :(

Eleanor August 12th, 2021 2:14 AM

239191

Apparently it was trendy, just look at Scizor or Espeon :))

I found a shiny Exeggcute in the safari zone once. Leaf green I think. It ran away 😔

Green shinies can work imo. It just needs to be done right or a good tone of green imo. Espeon's green is gross.
Salamence and Druddigon got nice shinies that are primarily green.

Once encountered a shiny Golduck in a safari zone (I think it was Emerald, but not sure). Did not catch the thing >.>

Clefable has a nice shiny. The green is just on the top

Megan August 12th, 2021 9:23 PM

Shiny Clefable reminds me of expired sausages, for whatever reason..

I encountered a shiny Tentacool once. It too has some green spots and actually doesn't look too bad.

Why are there shinies? Why did Game Freak want to double their work on sprites/textures? What is the lore behind them? Is it just to annoy only one Kabutops?
I don't remember them being mentioned in any game and I think I've talked to everyone in every Pokémon game until Black/White, and Bulbapedia doesn't say anything about the lore ^^"

Eleanor August 13th, 2021 12:37 AM

239197

Yeah hahaha! But it fits with their idea of "gotta catch them all" by being so rare... and yeah, until Black and White (with that dialogue) we had no italian word to even call these things!

I seem to remember them being mentioned in game somewhere, not "shiny" but "with a different colouring".

Eleanor August 13th, 2021 4:31 AM

239199

the italian word is "cromatico"... "Chromatic"... lady gaga foreshadowing I suppose!

StCooler August 13th, 2021 7:22 AM

239200 = 2*2*5*5*2*2*2*13*23
(Yeah, now I'm only doing it when it's easy XD)

Bulbapedia says nothing about the lore but it knows the word "shiny" in different languages :]

And I'm learning that "shiny" in Spanish is "variocolor" while "cromático" does exist and would be transparent between French, Italian and Spanish lol
Why can't we just speak only one language...
