Unpopular Opinions

It can be about anything. I like reading this stuff.

I think the best kind of maccoroni is watery.

For that reason, I think the cheap kind you get in a box tastes better than anything proffesionally made. If it's thick and clumped together, it's not good to me.

Oh no.
Do I dare...?

cats are lame and overrated and i don't like them; in fact, after over 20 years of being around them, i like them less and less with each interaction

I imagine that my worldview is a very unpopular opinion.

but for less depressing stuff:

The Battle Frontier is overrated
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild does not deserve to be held up as a gold standard of open-world gaming

Palamon May 21st, 2021 3:50 PM

The Sun/Moon anime art style is actually good.

gimmepie May 21st, 2021 5:42 PM

Cheese is disgusting.

Sothis May 21st, 2021 6:09 PM

I don't like how sexualized everything is. Like people will just openly talk about how horny they are or whatever on twitter and it's just so uncomfortable. Like obviously I have nothing against sexuality in general but some people just push it.

Wearing shoes inside your own home is horrible. I've been to so many non-Middle Eastern households where my 'true-blue Aussie mate' would tell me to leave my shoes on when I walk in; how on Earth do you stand having those things on all day in your own home?! Mop your floor more often SMH

Some of our family has a "must wear shoes inside" rule. Admitideally, yeah it's a bit backwards.

I got it a few weeks ago. I played it a couple times and haven't picked it up since and I have absolutely no desire to play it again. It's way too open for me.

I was going to put political opinions, but no-one else seems to be doing so...

No one should condemn or feel superior to anyone else. It is more of a Christian doctrine, but I believe it even stretches to not condemning racists, pedophiles, and nazis, for we all have the same nature that can produce those kind of people. We are all human, and all have the potential of doing things we ourselves would condemn... we could have been born as someone like that.

StCooler June 8th, 2021 12:21 PM

This one is a bit harsh, but... Let's go.
Spoiler:

Humans are animals who think they are clever.
We clearly are the only clever animals, but let's be honest, we all live our lives on autopilot. We make decisions based on feelings, emotions, instincts and biased reasoning. Some of us who have an intellectual work (research, engineering), use proper reasoning and actually push humanity forward during their working time, but outside of their offices, the proper reasoning vanishes and it's back to autopilot.
We're basically just animals living in a civilisation.

Another unpopular opinion: it's simple to lose weight (not easy, but simple).

Sothis June 9th, 2021 4:53 PM

Well you're not wrong, humans are a part of the animal kingdom.

Here's another. People can change and grow, people can realize things and decide to make a change, people can change. While someone you hurt doesn't have to forgive you, I don't think we should continuously slam, degrade, harass, etc people who are genuinely trying/have made real progress.

"This person did x to me, so I appreciate if you don't associate with them/bring them into my life." is ok
"This person did x, they're this, that and the other thing, let's harass them off the site/whatever irl thing" is wrong.

I think you missed my point ^^"

Oh no, I understand what you were saying, it was more of an attempt at joking.

StCooler June 10th, 2021 1:25 PM

Oh, so *I* missed your point ^^"

Though for me, I honestly try and think the best of others until proven otherwise.
But I think we'd be much better off if our society was more like the ants.

Megan June 10th, 2021 6:48 PM

Aren't we already kinda behaving like ants? Humans can be easily manipulated into doing stuff by playing into their emotions; fear being the most prominent one.

There's even an entire industry build around exploiting people's desires in order to sell them stuff.

Neb June 10th, 2021 8:06 PM

- Final Fantasy X is painfully linear and has some of the worst voice acting I’ve heard in a video game.
- The texture of ramen tastes mushy and cheap.
- Disco is a wonderful genre of music.
- The anime industry is oversaturated with unnecessary adaptions.
- Parmesan cheese is the best pizza topping.
- Forums are still the best place to make online friendships.
- CRTs are the most enjoyable way to play retro games.
- The Switch works better as a home console than a handheld.
- The DualShock 4 is actually a pretty comfortable controller.

StCooler June 10th, 2021 10:28 PM

WHAT? Parmesan on pizzas?!!!!! I would give it a try though.

We're too clever to behave like ants ^^
And I don't mean we're bad people because we're animals. Dog are neither good nor bad, they're animals that behave based on their instincts and do what's best for them. I just say we're no different.

Agreed, that's part of my point. But I also mean, individually we behave like animals. Your primary analysis should not assume that people are rational, but rather, that they're not. Often times I see people around me as animals and I understand better why they do what they do.
And I also mean that psychology and sociology are probably wrong in anything they say that doesn't involve biology, as we are primarily animals. Well maybe now it becomes an unpopular opinion.
But don't kill me though, I'm a mathematician, I know only about the sciences that can actually prove stuff.

Oh, I won't kill you. But that angry capitalist mob would really love to tell you more about rational actors and that people only make well informed decisions. And if you try to refute what they're sayng they will destroy you with facts and logic by screaming words like "communist" at you :P

But yeah, psychology is a mess as fragmented as it is; and it's not going to be better for a long time to come. Funny thing: If you find a psychology book at the store, chances are it's already outdated. I've read a couple of them only to later realize that they aren't relevant anymore. ^^"
It's the lot of a science that highly depends on proper testing and statistics evaluation. The procedures are surprisingly complicated and it's not uncommon for studies to not be quite as accurate as they should be. < human error, see we're back at the beginning :P

I meant more of being more "together" as a society, liking working together for the betterment of mankind.
You are right though, the biggest example is this pandemic.

I almost always prefer TV size music (like TV length openings and endings for anime, which tend to be around 1.5 mins long) than full sized songs (which average around 3-5 minutes). I'll go out of my way to download TV version music over the full tracks if I can, but if not I tend to just skip to the next song when the TV portion is over and it continues. idk, I just never really like the lyrics/song much at their full length. Never seen anyone else who feels the same.

Pig June 19th, 2021 5:59 PM

Side scrolling platform games are all the same. Run to the right, avoid/kill enemies. The only differences at times are the visual aesthetics. As soon as I see the genre is "side scrolling platformer" I'm already bored of it. Every Mario game except for the 3D ones are the same, and at a certain point, even the 3D ones just become differently skinned clones of each other. Every time I've given a new one a chance, I've stopped after 5 or 6 levels because it's exactly the same as the last one I gave a chance.

I see the appeal, it just doesn't strike me.

Simply Dunsparce June 19th, 2021 8:03 PM

Plugging your nose when entering the pool is unnecessary and looks dumb.

Also hardstyle is the most overrated EDM subgenre.

Figure June 20th, 2021 12:43 AM

I don't know if this is really an unpopular opinion but the more I think about it, which is often, the more it makes my head spin. I don't think you should necessarily do what makes you happy especially if you can help your society, even though it is inevitable that no matter what we do, at some point, humanity will die out and the Earth will cease do exist.

To elaborate on this, say you become a surgeon, a very good surgeon and you have dedicated your life to getting good grades, going to medical school, the whole bit. After some time you realize you don't love what you do and you want to pursue your passion of, whatever the fuck. Even if you are miserable, you are doing good for the community and I am of the mindset that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few and you should feel obligated to live a miserable existence if you are able to better the lives of many.

I also think we should cherish life and do what we can to save people and extend their lives even though we are overpopulating the planet, which is tough because that will eventually lead to a decrease in quality of life for everyone, especially since we are all living longer and will keep living longer. The other part of me thinks that once you are dead, and even alive, none of it matters anyway so just do what makes you happy while you can which is a complete paradox to my previous paragraph but I believe both simultaneously?

The more I think about it the more pointless it all seems, and it is, pointless. Let's even say that... Christians are the one religion to get it right and there is a heaven! Sounds great right? Spend eternity in bliss. So what is eternity? Until the end of time? How do you quantify that? Time is a concept of humans, how do you spend eternity in bliss? It never ends? How? Honestly, the thought of infinite nothingness sounds more appealing to me than losing my mind in a never ending, never changing "eternity". At least, in my perception of death, once you die, there is nothing, you don't experience anything, which doesn't seem possible and is making my anxiety spike even typing this but at least when it happens I won't have these worries anymore.
