Creepy People
I sometimes get these DM's from fake accounts on Facebook. I got blocked before I could even report this one. (Because I was being snarky). These accounts look so plastic, but it's unsettling knowing there are people who get lured in.
Spoiler:
Do you have any uncomfortable encounters, online or offline? |
Additionally if anybody ever feels troubled by these kinds of encounters, there are some giveaways for someone is genuinely bored and just talking, and someone with malicious intent.
Below 20 friends is the biggest giveaway. It seems to be the most common thing. This is the hardest thing to make look authentic on a profile, lots of times they just don't bother making the friend list look authentic. (but will edit everything else). I find it amusing to ask where the person is from, and they say something like "Born and raised in the USA", but they only have foreign friends on the list. Sharing meme photos to make it look they they have an authentic profile, but they leave a comment on top that doesn't match the context of the photo. Or it's something generic. "I agree with this so much" or "I relate to this on a personal level". Sometimes if I'm unsure, I'll ramble on and on about something mundane, never letting the conversation go anywhere else. I've witnessed them "break character", immediately pushing the conversation into something inappropriate. Most of the time they realize it isn't working, and I get blocked or unfriended. I'll usually accept requests to get these accounts shut down. I do feel sorry for those who add people seeking a real friend, and get lured into something predatory. As in the case of the screenshotted photo, I was correct after seeing the profile looked disingenuine. I told another person to report the account, Facebook was very quick with removal. Of course this can be avoided in the first place through only adding people you know. |
On tumblr I used to get those weird bots that attempt to be people which was creepy.
Creepy until I had the same bot sequence 5 times in one day. |
Someone obtained my number and started harassing me, I hung up.
But I'm shocked someone went that far... |
Weird freaky cis guys have tried to flirt with me. Constantly, but not much to say on the offline side of this.
As for online? One time some complete stranger was able to guess my Facebook correctly just because I used red font color in my post, at the time. That's fucking creepy. I don't know how that person did that, especially since I never gave my Facebook out to anyone. |
I don't have any active social media accounts. That alone helps tremendously avoiding these types of encounters. But even when I was still active I never had any sort of encounter I considered creepy.
|
Creepers never come to me for whatever reason
Sorta wish they would though, just so they're doing it to me instead of someone who is made uncomfortable by it |

They're either flirting with me non-stop, or trying to invalidate my pronouns. |

Also has a few dudes try and catfish me on facebook. |

Some of them are! |
How do people get to thinking that flirting with someone half their age is in any way wanted or appropriate? Next time I'll be like "I'm young enough to be your child."
|
well some people are fine with that, and don't really think age is an issue.
and there are some others that prefer someone older, or prefer someone younger. and being real age isn't even the deciding factor in if someone's creepy, its really personality and whether they're attractive. Like for example Chris Hemsworth, practically anyone would agree that he's hot, regardless of sexual orientation. and he's near 40. its just a fact that unattractive people are just more likely to have their actions seen as creepy or gross. and that's just down to innate bias. and I'm not saying if someone is ugly they are a creep, just that there's a bias, and a perceived correlation. actually a better example is probably just looking at the twilight series. 🤔 |
I've had PC users be randomly inappropriate with me in DMs or on social media platforms and thankfully most of that is dealt with accordingly by now. If it happens (on PC or elsewhere), don't be like I first was and think "uh they're probs just a bit weird with me, they're probs fine really", because if they do it to you they likely do it to others too and others might not have as thick skin as you might. don't hesitate to tell someone off or even just immediately block and report if you ever encounter someone online who makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Then again I almost never chat on discord, so if this is something that happens more on the server that's probably why it hasn't happened to me. |
I remember when I first joined here I had three(!) users randomly message me asking what my gender was...that was a little uncomfortable. I mean, not being asked the question itself, but more being asked by people I'd never spoken to prior to that, when I'd just joined, as the first thing they said to me. I am strongly reminded of the "Hey, Age/Sex/Location? :)" bots I used to encounter on MSN back in the day. Same energy.
Offline...well, when I was in my second year at University I had early evening classes and there was a narrow alley that I had to pass through to get to where I needed to go. One time I went down there on my own and was ambushed by a guy who was probably in his late thirties or so. He got VERY close and said "My cock, your mouth" when he was right in my face. I just said "No thanks" and practically ran out the alley and onto the main street...he followed me out of the alley and lurked behind me whilst I waited to cross the road. Thankfully there were other people around at this point, but I don't think I've ever been more disturbed or scared in my life >.> |

Oh I get the odd creepy message on instagram from people who want me to be their bride or for them to be "my sugardaddy" (their own words). I have fun trolling them before blocking. Also get bot messages from advertising accounts.
Had a few creepy people in real life and sadly both have been at comic cons. Once this guy tagged onto our group (we are open with people joining our group if they are on their own or nervous. As "veterans" we look out for people who just need a friend or someone to talk to) and he was fine at first but then he started to touch a few girls inappropriately and kissed my best friend on the lips. We told him to stop or he'll be reported and he left us. We saw him again later harassing someone else so we reported him and got him kicked out but there was no need for that kind of behaviour. Another time I was touched inappropriately by someone in a fursuit. Fortunately I'm someone who will say something and I shouted loudly enough for the security to come over and kick said person out. This is only 2 times and I've been to SO many cons so please don't let it put you off. Not all con goers are bad. |
everytime gimmepie talks to me

It's good that you were able to make it out of that situation, since it obviously could've gone really badly. |

I only have one IRL creepy instance and it wasn't that bad, but it could've been MUCH worse. A few months ago, my friends and I went to a Dave and Busters in our prom dresses (we refused to go to our school's lame prom). One of my friends (I'll call her "Sis" for the sake of the story) and I broke off from the group to play air hockey. I was going over to the other side of the table so we could start playing when I saw a group of guys standing near the table. I tried to walk around them, but one of them said "Hey, what's the tiara for?" Obliviously I responded "Oh, my friends and I are here for prom." Next thing I know, Sis grabbed my wrist and pulled me away from them. She started asking me if I was okay. I'm still confused by her sudden concern, so I said "Yeah I'm fine, why?" Apparently they were starting to circle around me, and she pulled me away before anything could escalate. I still shudder to this day when I think of what they would've done to me had Sis not been there to save me. I'm more ashamed of the fact that I had no idea anything was going on than what actually happened.

I've had multiple guys creep on me irl, some experiences being worse than others that I'd rather not remember.
There's a different creepy experience that I'll never forget though. Basically my friend (I'll call her N) and I were on the bus home from uni and we saw a girl (let's call her A) there who my friend recognized, apparently it was a co-worker of hers from KFC (fast food chain) when she worked there. We chatted for a while during the bus ride before we all had to get off. That was the last time N saw A since she typically took different routes and didn't work in the same place anymore. On my way to school I realized A and I would take the same bus route on certain days (she lived in an apartment complex nearby) so we'd see each other and chat. Became somewhat of friends and A asked to add me to her phone contacts, I said sure. This went on for a few months with no problem. Eventually we stopped seeing each other on our way to class at all, since it was a different semester and our schedules changed. We never really kept in touch via text/calls or anything despite having added each other, it was only ever when we saw each other commuting in person. A year or two later A texted me saying she wanted to talk to me. I said okay sure but asked if it can be via text first since I was busy. She calls instead, I don't pick up, and she leaves a voicemail with some weird message like, "I'm inviting you to a meeting at my house. This meeting is very important. Please come tomorrow at x time." I was like ???? Gave me a fright and I could not understand what the heck she was talking about. I then brought the weird message up with N who used to work with her, and she said she had no memory of this person whatsoever. And that's coming from someone with a very good memory who typically was the one reminding me of things. I blocked A after that and was terrified about running into her for months after. Was afraid it was some cult or planned kidnapping thing or...something. or a ghost |
