The Glacial Gathering: Ice Types Fanclub
8 Attachment(s)
This is a club for people who like Ice Types, be it in general or only some. If there is an Ice Type Pokemon you like, you will be welcomed with open arms! Come talk about anything Ice type Pokemon =) To join, simply choose the Ice Type Legendary that you would like as your Guardian: https://www.pokecommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=98679&stc=1&d=1632860857 (image is a collage of screenshots I took myself in the Crown Tundra and then edited together) Quote:
A Couple questions to start us off: -What is/are your favorite Ice Type Pokemon? -Have you ever used an Ice Type on any of your playthrough teams? If yes, do you remember which one it was and/or in which game? Edit: Additional topics/questions asked in further posts (recapping them here for people who join later): Spoiler:

Yes! This looks like the beginning of a really cool club! No pun intended.
All of the guardian Pokemon look impressive. I think I will humbly ask that Kyurem watch over me. It's storyline was interesting in the BW2 games, and I also liked how Kyurem was presented in the Sword of Justice movie. I was tempted though by Calyrex and Articuno as well. What is/are your favorite Ice Type Pokemon? Probably Lapras. It's is such an alluring pokémon that makes me think of the loch Ness monster, and I have tender memories of the baby Lapras that Ash rescued and reunited with it's family after traveling through the Orange Islands with it and using it in important gym challenges like the race with Blastoise and at the Orange League against Drake's gengar. I miss this precious Pokemon, and always look forward to getting a special gift Lapras in-game. Have you ever used an Ice Type on any of your playthrough teams? If yes, do you remember which one it was and/or in which game? Yes, I used a strong Beartic on my team in my last playthrough of Pokemon Black. I really like the seasons feature of the Unova games, and I was lucky enough to just so happen to be playing around the holiday season, and watched autumn become winter and was able to access areas of the game that only open when things over, and got a cute cubchoo who I raised into a fearsome-looking beartic. He really came in handy at the 8th gym vs Dryden's dragons, and he 1 hit k.oed everything with his powerful icicle crash. I remember building a team around Cloyster in the old RBY games, and importing it into pokemon stadium. Having the special attack/defense all being one stat back in gen 1 was fun. It's not for a main story run, but I have a Lapras in Oras right now that has been traded over to help me at the post game battle facilities. I am really enjoying it's current set, just basic basic thunderbolt, surf, freeze dry and ice shard. I am also raising up a nice thick fat Mamoswine. I have grand plans to evolve my Eevee into Glaceon in my Sinnoh run. |
You have been admitted to the Glacial Gathering through your Guardian: Kyurem.
Welcome, VisionofMilotic! Lapras is a fine choice! It's quite the elegant pokemon. It once was my favorite Ice Type too =) It seems you are no stranger to using an Ice type on your team either =) It's a shame how often Ice types get omitted from people's teams, due to Ice not having any resistances other than itself while having 4 weaknesses. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ I'll go and answer my own question too: What is/are your favorite Ice Type Pokemon? Glaceon, Aurorus, Alolan Ninetales, Froslass and Mamoswine are currently my top 5 Ice Types, in that order. Some newer Ice types like Glastrier and Frostmoth have been growing on me though, so they might push someone out of my top 5 at some point ^.^ Glaceon is also my favorite mon in general. It is both an awesome looking eeveelution and an Ice type as well! Aurorus is just a majestic looking mon and I love it. Alolan Ninetales is beautiful. Froslass has some dark Dex entries, but it's design I find very appealing. Mamoswine is just cool and has grown on me over the years. Have you ever used an Ice Type on any of your playthrough teams? If yes, do you remember which one it was and/or in which game? The ones that I can remember: -A Seel evolved into Dewgong all the way back in the original Red & Blue. And in the opposite game, after catching the legendary birds, I put Articuno on one of those teams as well. Both of these filled the final slot on those teams and were really late admissions due to them being catch-able so late in the game. As such, they weren't used very long, but Dewgong helped with Blaine and Giovanni and Articuno was quite helpful against Giovanni too. -Skipping to gen 3 as I never had a GBC and skipped Gen 2 at the time. Didn't know until recently Gold/Silver were playable on the original GameBoy... oh well. I had a Walrein that started as a Spheal on my team in one of the RSE games. The gift Lapras from Silph in FRLG. Both of these are kinda late in the game too. Walrein was very helpful with Drake and Lapras very helpful for Lance iirc. -Gen 4: I had both Diamond & Pearl. Tried out one of the new eeveelutions in each. I don't remember how late in the game the snow route where you could evolve Eevee into Glaceon was (or how late in the game Eevee was available), but it felt like I had to wait forever to get the chance. Once I had it though.... love at first sight 😍 It instantly became my favorite Pokemon. -Gen 5: I don't remember much from gen 5. But I'm fairly confident I had a Cubchoo/Beartic on my team in one of the games. -Gen 6: Used the sail fossil for a Amaura/Aurorus that I added to the team. It was... a struggle. I love it's design, but keeping it alive was not easy. -Gen 7: Thought for a second I didn't use any this gen, but then remembered having a Crabominable on one of my teams, and a Froslass on one of the others (I got all 4 Alola games and do not remember which was used in what game). -Gen 8: Shiny bred a heavy Ball Eevee and evolved it into Glaceon in Shield and then used it for my first Sword playthrough. Remembering these is reminding me there are quite some Ice types I still need to give a shot on one of my playthrough teams! As for my own Guardian, I was torn between them, but ended up picking Glastrier. |
Can I please join and make Glastrier my partner? :3c I am getting more and more attached to ice types lately, especially since I love Alolan pix so much..!
|
I'd like to join. Tbh. I think it's a shame that the Ice type feels so underrepresented. There aren't that many Pokemon of the type and most of the time you only get access to them fairly late in the playthrough. That means you can't really make much use of them until most of the game is done.
I'll go with Regice. I like its somewhat alien appearance and cry. My favorite is Froslass and I actually used one back when I was still playing ROM hacks. I used in in my playthrough in Glaced. Another Ice Type I used on one of my playthroughs of Gold was Sneasel. Such a shame that it can only be accessed in Mt Silver, though. At least Crystal made it accessible earlier. |
Sign me up!!! I adore Ice types! I have one on nearly every team, and it's often Lapras, I love Lapras so much!
An ice horse is built to be my guardian so I almost picked Glastrier... but I'm going all in... Ice Rider Calyrex, I choose you :) My favourite Ice types are Lapras, Froslass, Glaceon, Alolan Vulpix & Ninetales, Weavile, Cloyster and Aurorus But to be fair, Ice is one of my favourite types, I love nearly all Ice Pokémon! |
Quote:
Welcome, Sheep! Alolan Vulpix is super adorable =) Quote:
Welcome, Megan! Great mon choice =) Johto had more mons like that from what I've heard, like Houndour was only catchable in Kanto? And Larvitar was also Mt. Silver iirc. Johto had weird mon distrubtions. Also yeah, while trying to recollect what playthrough teams I used Ice types on, I realized almost all of them weren't really there till the last couple gyms T^T Quote:
Welcome, Ash Ketchup! Excellent mon choices as well! You might actually have an Ice type on your team more often than I do then xD I do use them a lot though ^.^ |
I feel bad because I feel like I don't use them often, but that's more because my team usually fills up before I can find an ice type to catch aha. I did use Frosmoth in Shield though and it was useful even if it was catchable late enough in the game. n pretty too :3
|
Hello hello! As an avid utilizer of the
emoji over on Discord, I'd love to be part of this club! My Guardian shall be Kyurem Black, as Black 2 was one of the first Pokémon games I played (I still have the cartridge) and one of my favorites too. My favorite Ice type is obviously Glaceon, but honorable mentions go to Froslass, Weavile, Frosmoth and Aurorus. As for Ice types I've used... - I remember using Glaceon a few times when I tried playing Pokémon Storm Silver (difficulty hack) because the creator was kind enough to let you access Glaceon before the first badge... - I definitely remember the various Beartic I've used in the last Challenge I've done (as of now), the 2021 Get-Together Save Swap thing! They were definitely straight-forward Pokémon, but I can't complain when you can just click "Icicle Crash" and things die in front of you! - In that same challenge I've also used a Mamoswine- thank you Sheep for catching that one, haha! - I also remember having a good time with a Rotom Frost in the Halloween 2020 challenge... too bad that was the level limit challenge, where Pokémon never last very long... - Sadly, I don't have that many experiences with Ice-types yet, especially outside of these challenges, because... yeah, they are rare and mostly placed near the end of the game. Oops :| |
I made Avatars for all Ice types available in Sw/Sh from screenshots I took =)
Attached them to my latest post in my showcase thread in the art section. Wouldn't mind submitting them for review for Forum avatars, but dunno how ^.^ Take a look if you want, and feel free to use one as your avatar if you want ^.^ Quote:
No need to feel bad lol, every type has some great mons! For a first playthrough at least, mons available early will usually go first ^.^ Every new generation I try to use at least 1 ice type if possible, but there are usually other tempting mons too ^.^ Quote:
Welcome, Eleanor! Great mon choices =3 That's still some solid experience though! I've never done challenge runs myself, but I reckon as long as you're having fun with your Pokemon team, the experience should be good =) |
Ah! I’m so delighted at this club’s creation! I absolutely adore ice types!!
I’d love for my guardian to be none other than the indescribably elegant and majestic Articuno!! I adore the others, however, Articuno I find to be the most alluring, as it has been a long-time favourite of mine. What are your favourite ice type Pokémon? Glaceon/Alolan Ninetales! I recall first seeing May’s Glaceon whilst competing in a contest in the DP series. It was the Wallace Cup if I’m not mistaken. From that moment onward I fell in love with the ice-type eeveelution. Glaceon sits among my top 5 all-time favourite Pokémon, and also is simultaneously my favourite eeveelution. It is truly a stunning Pokémon, and I cannot properly articulate my adoration for Glaceon. I utilized a Glaceon in Pokémon Pearl, named Kody, who brutally annihilated Cynthia’s Garchomp without breaking a sweat. I also main a Glaceon in PMD XD. And Ninetales, well, I suppose if I haven’t made my love for this Pokémon abundantly clear, I will do so now. Ninetales is my favourite Pokémon, hence my username. Alolan Ninetales specifically has one of my favourite type combinations to date, and it’s reveal was tremendous, I’m sure you can imagine my excitement upon seeing it for the first time. Have you ever used an Ice type on any of your playthrough teams? Yes. As aforementioned, I utilized a Glaceon in Pokémon Pearl, who is a renown assassin. Sinnoh’s most wanted undoubtably. I also had a Weavile accompany me during my playthrough of Heartgold. Akame, who I named after a character of the same name from Akame Ga Kill. Weavile is another favourite of mine that I’d always wanted to use, but never had prior to catching her. I certainly didn’t regret it, Akame far exceeded my expectations with her battling capabilities. On Soulsilver, I have a Lapras named Lucille, and describing her as a tank would be an understatement. Lapras is another Pokémon I simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use, as it’s a magnificent Pokémon in every aspect. I also had a Vanilluxe on my team in Pokémon Black named Swirl, an Aurorus in Pokémon X named Aurora. (Aurorus is another favourite of mine!!) Froslass and Frosmoth are on my list for ice types I plan on using in the future!! |
I've considered Ice my favorite type for some years, so of course I've gotta join!
Guardian: I think I'm going to go with Regice. I love how mysterious the Legenary Golems were in Gen. III, being so tucked away that one had to rely on a guide to unlock. (I was thinking Articuno at first, purely for aesthetics, but then I remembered how I used to find its RB sprite creepy and once had a nightmare about it eating my Pokémon and exploding my Game Boy...!) What is/are your favorite Ice-type Pokémon? Alolan Sandslash, Sneasel, Lapras, Frosmoth, Shiny Glaceon, and Froslass Spoiler:
Have you ever used an Ice-type on any of your playthrough teams? If yes, do you remember which one it was and/or in which game? Lapras in LeafGreen (probably Red/Yellow and Silver too), Glalie and Walrein in XD, Vanilluxe in Black, Aurorus in X, Alolan Sandslash in Moon, and Frosmoth in Shield. |
There are more people joining than I expected tbh =D
But ofc, the more the merrier! 😊 Quote:
Welcome, Ninetales! Excellent mon choices! Glaceon and Alolan Ninetales are fabulous mons =3 I still want to use a Weavile myself, never did. I'm thinking of using one on my team in the upcoming DP remakes ^.^ There are too many Ice types I haven't used yet xD Also Lapras is definitely a mon every Pokemon player should try out at least once 😊 Quote:
Welcome, icycatelf! Great mon choices as well! You seem to have used your fair share of Ice types too =) Quote:
Like, how are you supposed to figure that stuff out as a kid without outside help? @[email protected] Also, that sounds like a pretty bad nightmare 😱 |

I'm not sure what the normal frequency is for this, but I will be attempting to put some new topics/questions up once a week (every Wednesday) for the time being.
I will also be randomly adding in other things that I think may be fun to do =3 Poking all members =3 Spoiler:
Do you have any shiny Ice Type Pokemon? If not are there any Ice Type Pokemon who's shiny you like and would you consider shiny hunting them or not? Feel free to share screenshots/photos if you have them! Putting my own answers in spoilers: =3 Spoiler:
Do you nickname your Pokemon? If so do you have any nicknames you use for certain Ice Type mons or do you randomly pick nicknames for them? Putting my own answers in spoilers: =3 Spoiler:
Are there any Ice Type Pokemon you think could use a baby Pokemon or a new evolution? Or perhaps there's an Ice Type Pokemon that you think needs a Middle Stage, because the gap between the first and final form is too big or awkward? Putting my own answers in spoilers: =3 Spoiler:
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I also made a little Ice Type Quiz for those who are interested! 10 questions: 7 multiple choice and 3 True/False questions. Taking it is completely optional, but after submitting your answers it will show you the correct answers/if you got any questions wrong, and give you a score. This is not so much about score though and more for fun! Test your knowledge =3 Click the spoiler for more info, if you are interested =) Spoiler:
I spend a lot of time in Forum Games and Poke Trivia (so a biased opinion), but I though this could be fun =3 For those that took the Quiz: Would you like to see more of these? You can also post your score if you want. You don't have to though. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two utility questions for future possible challenges or events: -Do you have access to a Pokemon game that allows you to Wonder Trade (3DS) or Surprise Trade (Switch)? -Do you have access to a Pokemon game that has some variation of the Battle Tower? (3DS or Switch) I may or may not be plotting things 😈 |
I have some shinies! Glaceon being one of them actually. :3 I forgot when I got her but it was early on, I think in the gen IV days...? Pretty sure it was through a trade from someone! She now sits comfily in my Shield file.
the quiz.. Quote:
|
Do you have any Shiny Ice-type Pokémon? Are there any Ice-type Pokémon whose Shiny you like and would you consider Shiny-hunting them? I've got a full-odds Shiny Alolan Sandslash, Weavile and Froslass from Moon, Alolan Ninetales and Glalie from Ultra Sun, Frosmoth and Avalugg from Shield (assuming I understand the Shiny odds correctly), and Sneasel from Diamond and Virtual Console Gold. I'd still like to find a full-odds Shiny Vanillite someday!
Spoiler:
I've also got some non-full-odds Shinies, most notably my Shiny Glaceon mentioned in my previous post. There's also Dewgong, Cloyster, Jynx, Lapras, another Sneasel and Weavile, Walrein, another Froslass, Vanillite, Cryogonal, Aurorus, and another Avalugg. Spoiler:
Do you nickname your Pokémon? If so, do you have any nicknames you use for certain Ice-type mons or do you randomly pick nicknames for them? I usually try to come up with something new (usually something I can link to the Pokémon's type, design or origin), but I did name all three of my female Shiny Sneasel/Weavile Talon. Are there any Ice-type Pokémon you think could use a Baby Pokémon or a new evolution? Lapras could use a Baby for sure! I could see it looking something like a baby sea turtle crossed with a snail. I'd also love to see a baby Sneasel. As for evolutions, I agree that Delibird deserves something, but I also think it'd be cool if Dewgong got one since you hardly ever hear about it. Or at least a new form (Mega, etc.). I also made a little Ice Type Quiz for those who are interested! 10 questions: 7 multiple choice and 3 True/False questions. I was not prepared for a pop quiz this morning! I got 80%, missing the questions about the Gen. with the least amount of Ice-types (only three of the Gen. IV Ice-types were coming to mind) and the one about unique moves. For those that took the Quiz: Would you like to see more of these? Wynaut? Do you have access to a Pokémon game that allows you to Wonder Trade (3DS) or Surprise Trade (Switch)? Yes to Wonder Trade, no to Surprise Trade. Do you have access to a Pokémon game that has some variation of the Battle Tower? (3DS or Switch)? Yes. |
Do you have any shiny Ice Type Pokemon? If not are there any Ice Type Pokemon who's shiny you like and would you consider shiny hunting them or not?
Feel free to share screenshots/photos if you have them! I don't recall having any Ice type shines. But I'm also not interested in shiny hunting, tbh. I'm pretty much past the point where I have goals that take a long time. I play the games mostly for the ride. Do you nickname your Pokemon? If so do you have any nicknames you use for certain Ice Type mons or do you randomly pick nicknames for them? I may use random names or themes or whatever is in my head at the moment. I also think that often times the other type in an Ice dual type mon is very overpowering in that regard. I'd usually end up basing the name on that second type. ^^" Are there any Ice Type Pokemon you think could use a baby Pokemon or a new evolution? Or perhaps there's an Ice Type Pokemon that you think needs a Middle Stage, because the gap between the first and final form is too big or awkward? Sneasel could have a preevolution, Delibird could have an evolution. Glalie I could see having an evolution. I'm not a huge fan of baby Pokemon and I don't really think there's any evolution that is a huge jump in strength. If anything, they need all the strength they can get given how late most of them can be found. ^^" Quote:
-Do you have access to a Pokemon game that allows you to Wonder Trade (3DS) or Surprise Trade (Switch)? I have my gen 6-7 games and technically also Sword. However, for the latter I refuse to pay for an extra online service from Nintendo. -Do you have access to a Pokemon game that has some variation of the Battle Tower? (3DS or Switch) Same as above. |
Do you have any shiny Ice Type Pokemon? If not are there any Ice Type Pokemon who's shiny you like and would you consider shiny hunting them or not?
Feel free to share screenshots/photos if you have them! I remember shiny Pokemon being pretty easy to get in Pokemon XY, and may have some shiny shellder/Cloyster from my chain fishing days still on the 3ds. I also have access to an ice type friend Safari withd delibird, beartic and bergmite, and think it could be fun to hunt some of those and share if anyone is interested. Do you nickname your Pokemon? If so do you have any nicknames you use for certain Ice Type mons or do you randomly pick nicknames for them? I usually nickname all of my Pokemon because they have personality to me, and I feel that they should have names in recognition that they are something special, and also to acknowledge hoe they have helped me on my quest. I would like to think that we are friends. I try to put some thought into names, and use names that mean something. Ice Pokemon are no exception! The Lapras I transferred over from my Crystal playthrough I named Scamander, which is the Greek name for a Turkish river Karamenderes. The ancient people thought the river had a divine personification called Xanthos, an immortal warrior who fought with the Gods. My Articuno from Pokemon Yellow I named Yuki-onna after the ice yokai of Japanese folklore. Yuki-onna are said to be hauntingly beautiful maidens that appear during snow storms, leading those who get lost to their wintery grave. The reason I thought of these spirits when naming Articuno is because of a line in it's Pokedex entry in Pokemon Blue, describing it as, "A legendary bird POKéMON that is said to appear to doomed people who are lost in icy mountains." Though the Pokemon that is most specifically based on the Yuki-onna is froslass, Articuno's story is still eerie and somber enough that I thought the name worked for this ice pokemon too. Are there any Ice Type Pokemon you think could use a baby Pokemon or a new evolution? Or perhaps there's an Ice Type Pokemon that you think needs a Middle Stage, because the gap between the first and final form is too big or awkward? That's an interesting question. Hmmm! Alolan vulpix already is awfully cute, so I don't see how one one could fail making a mini Vulpix by giving it a baby form. I think it would make a precious Pokemon. I mentioned not long ago in the water club that I would like to see an evolution for Dewgong. Who knows? Maybe it's time will come in Legends Arceus and we'll meet a hisusian seel and dewgong, and a third stage will be added to the evolutionary line? For those that took the Quiz: Would you like to see more of these? You can also post your score if you want. You don't have to though. I like the idea of optional quizzes like this. It was something different to do, and was actually fairly challenging. My score: 80% 80/100 In my defense some of the questions were a little vague. I wasn't sure for instance how mega evolutions were counted for question #3, and if they should be added to the total of Pokemon introduced for a region, or not. On the 5th question I did not understand at all what the question was asking me by the phrase "unique moves". Are these moves that can only be learned by ice types, and not by any other Pokemon elemental types? Does it mean signature moves to specific ice species? I'm still glad to have passed though, and thought it was a way to occupy some time and think the picture of Kyurem at the blackboard with his graduation cap on is priceless! Two utility questions for future possible challenges or events: -Do you have access to a Pokemon game that allows you to Wonder Trade (3DS) or Surprise Trade (Switch)? -Do you have access to a Pokemon game that has some variation of the Battle Tower? (3DS or Switch) Yes, access to wonder trade and yes post game battle facilities. I normally use the battle maison. |
Never really thought about a baby for Sneasel, but I googled for fanart on it and saw this:
Spoiler:
Definitely on board for a baby for sneasel now! =3 I also wouldn't mind if Dewgong got a new evo either. This one is technically a fanart for a mega, but I think it could work for a regular evo too: Spoiler:
Quote:
Yea that move question in particular seems to have gone bad. Was wondering if it was a problem with the question or not. I think I put the word unique in because for example: Subzero Slammer has both a physical and special version in the attackdex I was looking at. But the question was meant to just refer to the amount of different Ice Type moves there are, so I should probably just have dropped the word unique altogether. Well.... that was my first time making one of these, seems I need to pay more attention to phrasing in any future ones ^.^ Life's a learning experience after all ^.^ |

Sending the pokes again =3
(if you don't want to be poked feel free to say so btw) Spoiler:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Regional Forms-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Alola games regional forms were introduced. Alola added regional forms for Sandshrew/Sandslash & Vulpix/Ninetales, which are Ice Types. Galar added Mr. Mime, Darumaka and Darmanitan as regional Ice Types and gave Mr. Mime a new evolution. What is your opinion on regional forms in general? Do you think they are a good idea or would you rather not have had them? Do you like the Ice Type regional forms? Do you prefer them over their originals? Are there any non Ice Type mons you'd like to see as a regional Ice Type in a new gen/game? Would you like any of them to gain a new evolutions? (SwSh gave certain regional forms a new evolution, such as Mr. Rime for Galarian Mr. Mime). Do you think or hope there will be any new Ice type Hisuian forms in Legends:Arceus? My own answers =3 Spoiler:
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This part is completely optional once more! For those who like to draw: try to draw a regional Ice Type form for a Pokemon you think deserves one. if you don't want to draw/don't have time: google search for some fanart for regional Ice type forms! (you can also do both I guess ^.^) There is no real deadline for this tbh. Just give it a try if/when you have time and think it could be fun =D Just thought this would fit in nicely with the topic this week =3 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I have attempted to draw a regional Ice Type form for Spinda: Spoiler:
It's a bit goofy, but I don't think it's horrible =p |
(Whoops, me who lets my notifications sit for literally a week did not realize I got pinged lmao)
What is your opinion on regional forms in general? Do you think they are a good idea or would you rather not have had them? I like them! I'm also biased since it introduced one of my favorite babies everrrr, Alolan Vulpix hehe. So cute. Sandshrew's Alolan form was also cute... and another ice type. :D Pretty sure I liked regionals since the start and that probably won't change. Do you like the Ice Type regional forms? Do you prefer them over their originals? As you can tell above, yes I 1000% like them. I like the originals too, Vulpix especially will always be cute, but ice regionals overall are just -chef's kiss- Are there any non Ice Type mons you'd like to see as a regional Ice Type in a new gen/game? Yes! I think an ice type flying regional would be cool. Ice type Skarmory would probably be absolutely gorgeous, and I can imagine ice crystals over its body in place of steel. Would you like any of them to gain a new evolutions? (SwSh gave certain regional forms a new evolution, such as Mr. Rime for Galarian Mr. Mime). One day I'd like to see an ice type evolution for Clamperl, since I think that would be a really interesting concept to explore. More elegant ice aquatic creatures please! I'd also love to say Delibird but I have absolutely no idea what they could do as an evolution for it?? Do you think or hope there will be any new Ice type Hisuian forms in Legends:Arceus? Yesss. I know how biased I am towards the ice regionals and would love to see more. Anything really - surprise me. Bonus points if I get some precious ice Whimsicott or Altaria. :') |
What is your opinion on Regional Forms in general? Do you think they are a good idea or would you rather not have had them? I may not be a fan of every design, but I think the concept is a great idea!
Do you like the Ice-type Regional Forms? Do you prefer them over their originals? Yes to Alolan Sandslash, Vulpix and Darumaka, not so much Galarian Mr. Mime and Darmanitan. I think I prefer the original Sandshrew and Ninetales over their Alolan counterparts, but it's close. Are there any non-Ice-type 'mons you'd like to see as a regional Ice-type in a new gen/game? Liepard would be cool, seeing as we don't have a proper snow leopard Pokémon yet (Suicune draws partial inspiration from leopards, possibly snow leopards given its association with the north wind, but it's only vaguely cat-like and not an Ice-type). Regional Purrloin could even play on the Canada lynx since they already have similar jowls, though I suppose that role could also be filled by Shinx and co. since they're believed to draw at least partial inspiration from lynxes. I agree with Furret too, especially after seeing it in New Pokémon Snap. Hoothoot and Noctowl would also translate nicely into Ice-types. Would you like any of them to gain a new evolutions? (SwSh gave certain Regional Forms a new evolution, such as Mr. Rime for Galarian Mr. Mime). Unlike Regional Forms, I'm not a fan of Regional Evolutions. They really did the old forms dirty with those IMO (poor Farfetch'd and Mr. Mime still can't evolve...). Do you think or hope there will be any new Ice-type Hisuian forms in Legends: Arceus? As much as I'd love more, given the number of Ice-type regionals we've already got and Wyrdeer not getting Ice-type, they may be wanting to take a break from them. (Then again, there is a whole quarter of the region covered in ice and snow.) |
Oh interesting questions this week!
What is your opinion on regional forms in general? Do you think they are a good idea or would you rather not have had them? Yes, I think regional forms were a great idea, and would argue it's the best thing that gen 7 did. I was thrilled to see it continue as a feature of gen 8, and look forward to seeing the variants that future generations could bring us. Considering how many variations exist within species of wildlife here on earth, I think it's conceivable that such diversity might also be found within the Pokemon universe, and it's a way to inspire new interest in pokémon that might be overlooked or underutilized by altering their aesthetics slightly, and giving them an entirely different competive life with changes to their typing, abilities and access to new moves. Do you like the Ice Type regional forms? Do you prefer them over their originals? Yes, I like the ice type regional forms, with the exception of Mr Mime. Whether it's a psychic, fairy or ice type I hate the fundamental concept for this Pokemon down to it's lazy name. I suppose the Galarian version is the lesser of the two evils because he has some shoes and a tie that looks like ice or crystal. This makes him seem a little less human, and I think is an improvement to the original Mr. Mime that had no details to set him apart from a regular circus clown and completely failed from a design perspective in my opinion. But even the icy inserts aren't enough to salvage this thing for me. However, I think both Alolan and Kantonian Ninetales are fantastic designs, and their pre-evos are also delightful. I prefer the look of Alolan Vulpix, even though the Kantonian one also is charming, something about the snowy fur, cloud-like tails and mane just make this Vulpix look more ethereal. The opal color to the eyes also make them seem bigger and more expressive and vulnerable. When it comes to the more mature Ninetales though I prefer the original Kanto one. Alolan Ninetales is breathtaking, but what I like about the first Ninetales though is that I think her look is more complex, she's an elegant and dignified Pokemon, but she also can look fierce like a wolf can, yet has this hint of an devilish little smile that makes her unique. Both versions of Ninetales look otherworldly, but I feel like they come from two different plains of existence, and one is lighter and the other darker, and I just find the fire Ninetales a little more interesting, especially with it's backstory of the nine wizards that merged to create this Pokemon and the 1,000 year curse that pulling one of it's tails can trigger. The clencher for me though is the shiny, in the Kanto one the contrast between her normal and shiny form is much more dramatic, going from gold to silver, and those ultraviolet tips on the tail are just genius. It's one of my all time favorite shinies. I think the Sandshrew line is also fun. I prefer the simpler design of original Sandshrew a wee bit over the Alolan one, but they're both cute. However, for Sandslash I have to go with the Alolan variation definitely. The spikes/quills on it's back being icy stalgamites are just so cool. I guess both Unovian and Galarian Darumaka are sorta cute in a derpy way, and same with their evolutions and Zen Mode forms. When I saw Galarian Darmanitan I thought it was overdesign, but it also is starting to make me laugh because it's so whacky, and is starting to grow on me. So either the fire one or the fire/ice. Since right now I am only interested in playing casually I don't need to make hard decisions like sheer force or gorilla tactics. I just pick the Pokemon that intrigues me and see what I can get out of it. Are there any non Ice Type mons you'd like to see as a regional Ice Type in a new gen/game? I bet an ice type Starmie would be beautiful. It has the big, stunning ruby core in it's center, called the gem of the sea, that's supoose to shine in a rainbow of seven colors. Instead of rainbow how about an ice/psychic Starmie that has a core inspired by the aurora bourealis? Perhaps it's darker, twilight-toned starmie with a glowing emerald for it's gem, swirled with other flecks of color to make it look more like a starry sky filled with polar lights. The Hoothoot line is also waiting to be made into a an ice/flying type. It and Noctowl would make lovely snowy owls. Would you like any of them to gain a new evolutions? (SwSh gave certain regional forms a new evolution, such as Mr. Rime for Galarian Mr. Mime). Starmie is already strong and doesn't need an evolution, you could have something though I think with an evolved form for Noctowl. If you wanted get really unexpected and creative it's final form could be based on a creature from Russian folklore known as the sirin, they are enchantresses who have owl body parts and wings, they looked like beautiful angels with halos, and sang hypnotic songs. I would keep if firmly an owl and less hybrid, let the face stay more like Noctowl but give it big, glorious golden eagle/seraph wings after all that snow and whiteness of the pre-evos and keep the nimbus/halo over it's head. Do you think or hope there will be any new Ice type Hisuian forms in Legends:Arceus? I don't know if there will be, but I sure do hope so. I think it would be wonderful to have a new ice type Hisusian form, and think Legends Arceus has really done a terrific job with the different forms so far, especially the evolution for Stantler. It reminds me of the Deer God from Princess Mononoke, and I love it! |
What is your opinion on regional forms in general? Do you think they are a good idea or would you rather not have had them?
I'm probably one of the few people who focus more on the completely new Pokemon while leaving out the regional forms. I'm not against them. I just barely get to use them. I think they are an interesting concept and they work well to keep the Pokedex number low while also giving a new focus on Pokemon that already exist. Do you like the Ice Type regional forms? Do you prefer them over their originals? I like them, but I do think Ice/Steel is a very unfortunate typing in terms of weaknesses. Are there any non Ice Type mons you'd like to see as a regional Ice Type in a new gen/game? Some that would be interesting are the Ralts line, the Marill line, maybe some pseudo legendaries like Tyranitar or Salamence? I could also see the Hoppip line getting something new out of an Ice Type. (or some love in general) Would you like any of them to gain a new evolutions? (SwSh gave certain regional forms a new evolution, such as Mr. Rime for Galarian Mr. Mime). Maybe an evolution to Relicanth or Tentacruel that allows them to survive in colder waters? I suppose Noctowl and Swellow could also use some more power. I think there aren't that many Ice/Flying Pokemon besides Articuno, are there? Do you think or hope there will be any new Ice type Hisuian forms in Legends:Arceus? Isn't is a region considered to be a little bit colder? A region with lower temperature should have more Pokemon accustomed to the temperatures. And if it is open world we may even be able to use them earlier in the game! |

Are there any pure Ice Type Pokemon that you think should have a secondary typing? If so, which typing would that be? Are there any Non-Ice type Pokemon that you think should have been Ice Type? Are there any Ice Type pokemon you think shouldn't be Ice Type? Ice hasn't been combined with Normal or Poison yet. Additionally Ice has only been combined with Fire in a temporary form (Zen Mode Galar Darmanitan). Do you have any ideas for what an Ice Type Pokemon combined with any of these types would look like? Are there any pure Ice-type Pokémon that you think should have a secondary typing? If so, which typing would that be? I used to be convinced that Glalie was half Dark. Also, Cryogonal seems like it should be Ice/Steel with its almost mechanical appearance.
Are there any non-Ice-type Pokémon that you think should've been Ice-type? Piplup line and Suicune, though I guess the latter wouldn't have fit the legend of the Burned Tower had it been. Are there any Ice-type Pokémon you think shouldn't be Ice-type? I don't really get Cloyster being an Ice-type, but I'm cool with it. Ice hasn't been combined with Normal or Poison yet. Additionally, Ice has only been combined with Fire in a temporary form (Zen Mode Galar Darmanitan). Do you have any ideas for what an Ice-type Pokémon combined with any of these types would look like? (You can also use a new Regional Form for this if you want.) Obviously some kind of pun on "frostbite" for Ice/Poison. Maybe a Regional Zubat/Golbat/Crobat or a brand new bat Pokémon? |
First up, sorry I've been a bit of a cold club member of late ;)
Are there any pure Ice Type Pokemon that you think should have a secondary typing? If so, which typing would that be? Glalie should definitely be Ice / Dark imo, especially with Froslass being Ice / Ghost. I agree that Eiscue should have been Ice(d) / Water! Are there any Non-Ice type Pokemon that you think should have been Ice Type? Are there any Ice Type pokemon you think shouldn't be Ice Type? I think the Horsea line could have been Water / Ice, just look at them! Dratini and Dragonair always looked icy too, Dragonite obviously less so. Sign me up for a regional Altaria that is Fairy / Ice pls :) Ice hasn't been combined with Normal or Poison yet. Additionally Ice has only been combined with Fire in a temporary form (Zen Mode Galar Darmanitan). Do you have any ideas for what an Ice Type Pokemon combined with any of these types would look like? (you can also use a new Regional form for this if you want) I would love to see a an Ice / Poison branch of the Nidoqueen/king line! Btw, Jynx is half Ice type because it is at least partially based on Yuki-onna! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuki-onna |
Did anyone else expect the new Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark to be Ice type? I was surprised to see it was normal/ghost! Either way it really looks like something that is a cute little icy boy and I love him. ;w; Is it just me?
|
It looks like one to me yes, but Wyrdeer looked like an Ice type to me too so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
😅 I like the new Zorua, dunno how to feel about zoroark yet. |

omg... can I join? Ice types are like one of my favourites in the series and have been since Gen 1!!!! So much so, that I'd love to pick Articuno as my Guardian! I'll go ahead and answer the first post questions: -What is/are your favorite Ice Type Pokemon? Articuno hands down. -Have you ever used an Ice Type on any of your playthrough teams? If yes, do you remember which one it was and/or in which game? Aye aye aye, I've played so many runs of most of the games that I've probably used them all minus like Gen 8 ones, so I'll go moreso with the favourites I've used, which are 100% Cloyster and Sneasel in my Gen 2 runs, I almost always used one if not both of the critters! |
Hey Icy fans! I’m here on behalf of VPP to ask if you’d like to be involved in our section collaboration! You don’t need to do anything special, just any club members here who participate in VPP get a 25 post reduction when they ask for a new Icy Type virtual Pokémon! :)
Also, sign me up! Favorites are Alolan Ninetales, Weavile, and Lapras! |

Nor for the questions btw if you saw any more you want to answer 😉 I've gone and added them all to the opening post in a spoiler, figured it would be more convenient for people who join later on than sifting though all the posts =D Not that you absolutely have to answer each and every question or anything =p Anyway, you have been admitted to the Glacial Gathering through your Guardian: Articuno. Welcome, Pumpkin Spiced Memes! Quote:

What are some of your favorite snowy/icy location(s) in any of the games? (Snowy routes... Icy caverns etc.) The Unova games had seasons. Did you like this mechanic? How do you feel about the Winter season in them? Deerling/Sawsbuck had forms based on the current season. Do you like the idea of mons having seasonal forms? Do you think one of their typings should be adjusted along with the season? Or perhaps a different ability or move they can only have/use in a particular season? In SM/USUM a new Evolution stone was introduced for the regional Ice Types: the Ice Stone. Before Sw/Sh Eevee needed to be in a specific location in order to evolve into Glaceon. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Optional: Battle Tower Challenge #1 Time for a Battle Tower challenge for those who are interested! You can do this on any of the gen 6, 7 & 8 games that have a variation of the Battle Tower. This first challenge is kind of to test things out tbh as I'm not sure how high or low to set the goals atm =D (or if people are interested) I'm pretty sure some Battle Facilities had a choice between level 50 and level 100, but they've been changed bit by bit over the gens so I'm not sure when/what game this was anymore xD Anyway at your game's Battle Tower facility: pick Single Battle and then Level 50 (if you even have the choice between level 50 and 100). Rules: -Mono Ice type team (all your pokemon need to have Ice as one of their typings, this is the Ice Type club after all =3). -Held items ARE allowed. -IV/EV Trained mons ARE allowed if you have them. -No Dynamax/Megas etc. if the Tower allows them (gen 8 tower allows Dynamax for example). -No legendaries. (I feel like these weren't allowed at Battle Towers, but when I checked in gen 8 Battle Tower they were, so...) The Gen 8 Tower doesn't have the win streak system the previous Towers had, so I'm kind of forced to alter what I had in mind a little for gen 8. For Gen 6/7 Battle Tower: -Start a new streak with your Mono Ice team. -Get a win streak of at least 30 to be eligible for prizes =D Preferably take a photo of your win streak if possible when finished (not a hard requirement though). Once you've reached the required numbers you can keep going if you want to see how far you can get =D For Gen 8: -Write down your current amount of victories so you don't forget how many you started with (you see this number on the right on the screen where you pick between Single and Double Battle). Preferably take a screenshot or photo too (again, not a hard requirement). -Get at least 50 wins with your Mono Ice Team to be eligible for prizes (since they don't need to be consecutive in this battle tower, the number is higher). Preferably take another screenshot/photo when done (not a hard requirement). Whichever gen you're doing this challenge in, be sure to post the Team you used! Be it a screenshot/photo or just text. As for Prizes, I have a bunch of excess legendaries I can give away. The following legendaries are prizes this time (1 Prize Legendary Per Participant atm): ORAS (I have Bank so these can go to XY and SM/USUM too): -Raikou, Entei, Suicune (all x 2) -Regirock, Regice, Registeel (all x 2) -Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion (all x2) SwSh/Home: -Type:Null -Poipole -Raikou, Entei, Suicune -Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres -Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion -Ho-oh (x2) -Heatran Kinda wish I could hand out only Ice type legendaries, but I just don't have enough of them to do so xD You have a month to attempt this challenge, so deadline would be 27 November. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ |
What are some of your favorite snowy/icy location(s) in any of the games? (Snowy routes... Icy caverns etc.) Gen. II's Ice Path is the most significant for being where I found my first ever full-odds Shiny (a Golbat), but my favorite visually would probably be the Crown Tundra's Frigid Sea.
The Unova games had seasons. Did you like this mechanic? How do you feel about the Winter season in them? I do enjoy it, especially since it reminds me of one of my favorite GBC games (Oracle of Seasons), but I would've preferred if we had more control over them (aside from changing our clock) or if they changed more frequently. I don't think I did much post-game exploring back them, spending most of my time breeding and EV-training, so I don't think I was really able to appreciate this feature in full. Deerling/Sawsbuck had forms based on the current season. Do you like the idea of mons having seasonal forms? Do you think one of their typings should be adjusted along with the season? Or perhaps a different ability or move they can only have/use in a particular season? I would LOVE more Pokémon to have seasonal forms. Honestly wish this was the case for Sandslash (Alolan Sandslash being its winter form). Of course, it'd be nice if there was an item/feature that let us lock forms in case we wanted to use them out of season. ("Sandslash resonated with the Winter Crystal. Sandslash changed into its Winter Form!") In SM/USUM a new Evolution stone was introduced for the regional Ice Types: the Ice Stone. Before Sw/Sh Eevee needed to be in a specific location in order to evolve into Glaceon. In SwSh this has been replaced by the Ice Stone. If Crabrawler were to be in SwSh it would probably have received the same treatment. Do you think this is a good change? Do you prefer the location based evolutions for Ice Types such as Glaceon or the new Ice Stones? I don't mind the Ice Stone, but I don't like that they broke the consistency with the Eeveelutions by making items that were ineffective on Eevee before work in SWSH. (I also don't get why they didn't change Espeon, Umbreon, and Sylveon to stone evolutions as well while they were at it, as we've got stones that fit all of them.) For those who watch the Anime: Are there any moments from the Anime that are set in a snowy or icy location that you find particularly memorable? Snow Way Out, especially Ash's Pokémon staying out of their Poké Balls to keep him from freezing and Jessie's "snowgesbord." For those who collect or play the TCG: Are there any Ice mon cards (I believe they are Water type in the TCG?) that you think have a great snow/ice locale on the background? Or perhaps you just like the picture as a whole? I may have missed some, but my favorite after skimming through some Ice-type cards is probably still Alolan Sandslash from Rising Guardians. Spoiler:

I'm considering the Battle Tower quest but I don't have enough ice types trained up to feel confident doing it yet, but when I get my team all prepped up (maybe even during BDSP) I'll definitely show some progress ~
The Unova games had seasons. Did you like this mechanic? How do you feel about the Winter season in them? Just want to jump in here and say I loveddd winter in Unova and it made me so happy. Winter is such a gorgeous season in most games, and I tend to love all the winter-inspired locations in every Pokémon game. I really wish they'd bring seasons back permanently so I can see more pretty snow! |
Are there any pure Ice Type Pokemon that you think should have a secondary typing? If so, which typing would that be?
Beartic could be Ice/Water and Glalie could be Ice/Dark. I think having some pure Ice Types is pretty ok, though. Those two I just felt they are the ones would be ok with having a second one. Are there any Non-Ice type Pokemon that you think should have been Ice Type? Are there any Ice Type pokemon you think shouldn't be Ice Type? I don't know why Jynx is an Ice Type, tbh. Every other is ok. No non-Ice types that should be Ice that I'd recall. Ice hasn't been combined with Normal or Poison yet. Additionally Ice has only been combined with Fire in a temporary form (Zen Mode Galar Darmanitan). Do you have any ideas for what an Ice Type Pokemon combined with any of these types would look like? (you can also use a new Regional form for this if you want) Ice/Normal would fit to a Pokemon that's meant to fit in icy and non-icy regions. Poison is somewhat hard to match up with Ice because in icy regions you don't really see animals requiring poison. What are some of your favorite snowy/icy location(s) in any of the games? (Snowy routes... Icy caverns etc.) Ice Path in Johto is pretty much the only one that sticks out to me. I do still remember Frost Cavern from XY but I'm very much indifferent on it. The Unova games had seasons. Did you like this mechanic? How do you feel about the Winter season in them? Tbh. Winter was the season one I found not particularly interesting. :( Deerling/Sawsbuck had forms based on the current season. Do you like the idea of mons having seasonal forms? Do you think one of their typings should be adjusted along with the season? Or perhaps a different ability or move they can only have/use in a particular season? It's fine. But it's sad that seasons where just a one off gimmick and as a result we're very much stuck with the forms as they are. In SM/USUM a new Evolution stone was introduced for the regional Ice Types: the Ice Stone. Before Sw/Sh Eevee needed to be in a specific location in order to evolve into Glaceon. In SwSh this has been replaced by the Ice Stone. If Crabrawler were to be in SwSh it would probably have received the same treatment. Do you think this is a good change? Do you prefer the location based evolutions for Ice Types such as Glaceon or the new Ice Stones? I like having the option to interact with the environment. Replacing them with a stone, while making stuff easier that way, also takes away something from a game that already doesn't have too much left. For those who watch the Anime: Are there any moments from the Anime that are set in a snowy or icy location that you find particularly memorable? I remember that one episode during the first season where Ash was stuck on a mountain cave and was only able to survive due to his Pokemon helping him. Afaik, we even get to see Articuno for a moment... For those who collect or play the TCG: Are there any Ice mon cards (I believe they are Water type in the TCG?) that you think have a great snow/ice locale on the background? Or perhaps you just like the picture as a whole? The only card I remember is that very early Lapras card. Idk if it was the base set or the fossil set, though... Not sure if I'm gonna attempt the challenge. I don't particularly like the battle facilities in the games. ^^" |
Are there any pure Ice Type Pokemon that you think should have a secondary typing? If so, which typing would that be?
I think glalie should probably also be an ice ghost type like froslass, instead of a pure ice type, possibly an ice/dark combo. Glalie is essentially a disembodied head. It has this angry, bloodthirsty facial expression with demon-like horns, and it's Pokedex entries portray it as a stone cold killer, instantly turning those who cross it's path to ice, and delighting in the process of slowly eating it's frozen victims. It doesn't seem like your typical ice pokemon, it sounds like some kind of malevolent yokai. Are there any Non-Ice type Pokemon that you think should have been Ice Type? Are there any Ice Type pokemon you think shouldn't be Ice Type? Pretty much all of the ice pokémon discovered so far look convincing to me as ice types. Some I think could be a dual typing, see above, but I can't think of anyone that I would say doesn't look like an ice type at all, and shouldn't be this typing. Now there are a couple of Pokemon that are not ice types, that I think could have easily been ice too. When I first saw the beautiful new Hisusian Zorua and Zoroark I also was tricked into thinking that they were going to be ice types as well since their fur had become this glorious snow white pelt like arctic foxes, and they were shown roaming through these cool blue-toned environments that looked like an icy mountainside. Ice/fire was my guess because I thought the curling tips on their mane and ruff looked like little flames, and the glowing golden eyes also fit firelight. Ghost/Normal is still an interesting and unique type though, so I don't mind them not being ice, and i think this combo makes sense too the more I look at it. What came as a greater surprise to me was Cursola not being an ice type, I still can't believe it's not even part ice. To me it looks less like coral, and more like a dormant tree in the winter season, barren of it's leaves, coated in heavy falling snows. Ice hasn't been combined with Normal or Poison yet. Additionally Ice has only been combined with Fire in a temporary form (Zen Mode Galar Darmanitan). Do you have any ideas for what an Ice Type Pokemon combined with any of these types would look like? (you can also use a new Regional form for this if you want) How about a striking snow leopard for a normal/ice typing. There are also a lot of magnificent dog breeds suited to the cold that could a nice basis of inspiration for a normal ice Pokemon like Russian wolf hounds, a Great White Spitz one that is close to my heart the Great Pyrenees-- my own dog. Wherever these alluring dog Pokemon walk let it leave a trail of icicles behind!! What are some of your favorite snowy/icy location(s) in any of the games? (Snowy routes... Icy caverns etc.) Snowbelle City in XY is a charming winter village. I love the delicate chime-like music it uses as a theme, it has a magical beauty about it that lifts the soul and makes you want to curl up in front of the fireplace and relax with a cup of hot chocolate, and watch the falling snow. The seafoam islands, and hunting for Articuno in this icy domain is also a place that holds nostalgic value for me, and finding Kyurem in the giant chasm. The Unova games had seasons. Did you like this mechanic? How do you feel about the Winter season in them? I adored the season mechanics, having time visibly pass with seasons changing as you play the game over time really contributed to a sense of feeling like I had gone on an epic journey, especially with the larger scope of the story the Unova region had. It really felt like you had gone somewhere and explored. It was a really nice detail that made the visuals more dynamic and I liked that some Pokemon could only be accessed at certain times of the year--that made it feel more realistic since a Pokemon can be adapted to certain types of weather and surroundings just like animals in our world. It also was a reason to keep playing the game over an extended time as a collector to find locations of Pokemon you might have missed in summer for instance, but would be there in winter. I liked how the same environments would look very different depending on the time of year you visited i.e autumn, spring, and just really made this region a very textured and part of the Pokemon world, Unova is probably my favorite region after Hoenn. So yes, I absolutely loved the seasons as a mechanic, it was ingenious and should never have been removed! Having time of day, weather and seasons are a must. As for winter? I fell in love with winter, and it's the season I enjoyed the experience of the most in game. It was such a pleasant surprise when I first started playing the game in autumn, and midway through my gaming experience winter came, and Unova became this majestic winter wonderland overnight. I try to replay Pokemon Black in fall and winter months. I liked the deerling line, and how it was introduced to teach kids about the seasons through it's changing fur colors and antlers, and think it's winter form is the most beautiful one of all to collect, and Sawsbuck alone is a reason for me to play in winter. Deerling/Sawsbuck had forms based on the current season. Do you like the idea of mons having seasonal forms? Do you think one of their typings should be adjusted along with the season? Or perhaps a different ability or move they can only have/use in a particular season? I think it could have been interesting if Deerling/Sawsbuck's forms were not just aestethic, but functional, with a typing and ability swap to fit each season. I would lose the normal typing like Rotom loses it's ghost typing in the different appliance forms and make spring Sawsbuck grass/fairy, summer grass/fire, autumn grass/ground and ice grass/winter. It would have ×4 weaknesses, but would make up for that by gaining the awesome weather and terrain activating abilities like drought, grassy surge, snow warning and misty surge. They would also get some new moves with their new typing. In SM/USUM a new Evolution stone was introduced for the regional Ice Types: the Ice Stone. Before Sw/Sh Eevee needed to be in a specific location in order to evolve into Glaceon. In SwSh this has been replaced by the Ice Stone. If Crabrawler were to be in SwSh it would probably have received the same treatment.Do you think this is a good change? Do you prefer the location based evolutions for Ice Types such as Glaceon or the new Ice Stones? I think location-based evolution is a little more imaginative, and like the idea of taking that extra effort to travel to a special location to help a Pokemon that's important to you reach it's full potential, more than just picking up a stone. I think it's an underrated form of evolution, and I would have liked to have kept it in and maybe gotten a few more Pokemon that evolve when they level up near an icy or mossy rock or magnetic field. On the bright side though, having the method of evolution change to a stone-based one is easier than other methods they could have used like having to touch trade holding items as they did with Milotic, and better than not having access to the evolution at all the way Espeon and Umbreon weren't in the gen 3 games that didn't have the night and day mechanic. I would in that instance much prefer their method of evolution just become the sun and moon stone respectively to still unlock them, even though I think the night and day mechanic was the coolest. For those who watch the Anime: Are there any moments from the Anime that are set in a snowy or icy location that you find particularly memorable? Snow Way Out is a nice episode from the first season when Ash and his team are trapped in a snow storm, and spend the night on a cliff. It's heart-warming how all of Ash's Pokemon huddle together with him against the elements, him and Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Pidgeotto and Pikachu. It was a simpler time, but still sweet. The Kyurem and the Swords of Justice movie has several mysterious and foreboding ice environments that Kyurem stalks. It's pretty cool to watch him battle Keldeo in his lair, especially the crossing of his ice gate. I might just attempt this battle facility challenge, stay tuned! |

There are quite a few Ice type specialists in the games: Ice Type Gyms: -Johto: Pryce -Sinnoh: Candice -Unova: Brycen (B&W only; not B2W2) -Kalos: Wulfric -Galar: Melony (Shield only) Elite four: -Kanto: Lorelei -Hoenn: Glacia Meaning Alola is the only region without an Ice Type specialist. Omg.. I actually feel like Ice type users in the game deserve a buff! Pryce was one of the easiest Gym Leaders in the game and really deserved more for being the 7th gym leader. That battle was so easy to me, even when I was 9, and I can't help but feel bad for him aha. But he is a cool character himself even if he's so easy to battle. xD;;
I love Lorelei most personally, but she's probably pretty popular so it's no surprise. <3 If you could compose a Pokemon team for an Alolan Ice type specialist what would it be? Would you make the specialist a Trial Captain or have her/him replace a Kahuna? Or perhaps swap out one of the elite four? Ice type E4 pls!! Maybe a male this time, since we've had Lorelei and Glacia already. I say replace Hala in SuMo, he already had a role as a Kahuna and it would've been better to introduce a new character in his place. Team Alolan Ninetales (Ace) Lv. 54 Weavile Lv. 52 Abomasnow Lv. 52 Dewgong Lv. 50 Frosmoth Lv. 50 Aurorus Lv. 50 I'd totally enjoy battling this. \o/ |
If you could compose a Pokemon team for an Alolan Ice type specialist what would it be? Would you make the specialist a Trial Captain or have her/him replace a Kahuna? Or perhaps swap out one of the elite four? I'd have honestly loved to had seen a trial reminiscent of Danny's challenge from the Orange Islands, so Trial Captain. Limiting myself to the USUM Dex, I'm picturing him with Weavile and Alolan Sandslash for carving ice, plus Dewgong for some reason. Tempted to throw in some non-Ice Pokémon for the rematch though, like Mienshao and Midday Lycanroc (Shiny) since stoats and wolves seem at home in the snow. There are some Pokémon in the games that know "illegal" moves, like Lance's Dragonite with Barrier, so why not give these two Ice Punch and Ice Fang?
Which of the Ice Type Gym Leaders / Elite Four is your favorite? This can be the design of the character or how easy/hard they are to beat (or both). Or perhaps you have another reason. Probably Lorelei, tbh. Especially in Pokémon Adventures. Which of the above Ice type specialists gave you the most trouble? Also Lorelei, from the original games. Always had trouble getting past her until my most recent playthrough of Yellow. Which of the Ice Gym Badges do you like the most? I think it's really cool how the Iceberg Badge is filled with water/liquid, but my aesthetic favorite would have to be the Freeze Badge. Which Ice Puzzle did you like the most? (doesn't necessarily need to be an Ice Gym... Sootopolis for example has an Ice Puzzle, but is not an Ice gym.) Never really thought about it, but I'm going with Gen. II's Ice Path since it's the only one I've memorized. Might try at least one of your puzzles later. My brain just isn't ready for that right now. @[email protected] |
If you could compose a Pokemon team for an Alolan Ice type specialist what would it be? Would you make the specialist a Trial Captain or have her/him replace a Kahuna? Or perhaps swap out one of the elite four?
I’d swap out an elite four member!! Team: Alolan Ninetales Weavile Alolan Sandslash Lapras Froslass Which of the Ice Type Gym Leaders / Elite Four is your favorite? This can be the design of the character or how easy/hard they are to beat (or both). Or perhaps you have another reason. Candice without a doubt. I loved her contribution in the Pokémon Pearl and Diamond anime, I found her personality to be refreshing and contagious simultaneously! Furthermore, I adored her relationship with Zoey!! I feel like this dynamic truly brought her character to life. She feels like a trustworthy big sister, a character type in which I can appreciate. Moreover, I am fond of her design overall. She’s highly memorable to me, more so than other ice type specialists. I might add that her gym is quite troublesome and I had to watch a plethora of YouTube tutorials in order to efficiently navigate it. Brycen is my next choice, I’ve always loved his eclectic personality and design. He’s certainly an exceptional actor as well!! Which of the above ice type specialists gave you the most trouble? Candice, most likely. Though I can’t say any of them were immensely difficult to face in battle. Which of the ice gym badges do you like the most? The freeze badge without a doubt. Though, the icicle badge is the runner-up. Which Ice Puzzle did you like the most? (doesn't necessarily need to be an Ice Gym... Sootopolis for example has an Ice Puzzle, but is not an Ice gym.) Pryce’s. Perhaps it’s the nostalgia from playing HGSS, but I enjoyed that one the most. |
If you could compose a Pokemon team for an Alolan Ice type specialist what would it be? Would you make the specialist a Trial Captain or have her/him replace a Kahuna? Or perhaps swap out one of the elite four?
Probably Elite Four. Ice always comes way late in the games and gen 7 does something similar by keeping the icy region to pretty much the end, as well. I'd probably just give them the Alolan versions of Sandslash and Ninetales, as well as Crabominable. Irognically enough, that's all new Ice types we got in gen 7. xD Maybe add Lapras, as well. Which of the Ice Type Gym Leaders / Elite Four is your favorite? This can be the design of the character or how easy/hard they are to beat (or both). Or perhaps you have another reason. Tbh. most of them end up being fairly forgettable. I've not played Shield (only played Sword) and I've only played Platinum once and have no positive opinion of it. ^^" Wulfric and Brycen I barely even remember. Glacia exists. I think the reason why I even remember Pryce and Lorelei is because everyone makes fun of Pryce being weak and Lorelei just happening to be in one episode of the anime, as well as having some minor plot involvement in FRLG. Which of the above Ice type specialists gave you the most trouble? Idr anyone of them giving me trouble. Even Candice with her Snow Warning shenanigans didn't end up giving me as much trouble as I thought she would. Which of the Ice Gym Badges do you like the most? Glaicier and Iceberg, probably. Which Ice Puzzle did you like the most? (doesn't necessarily need to be an Ice Gym... Sootopolis for example has an Ice Puzzle, but is not an Ice gym.). All the gen 2 puzzles probably. They're just very memorable. |

Is/are there any move(s) you find yourself using often? Any favorite moves? How about moves you've never even heard about? Freeze-Dry is an Ice type move that hits Water types Super Effectively. Any ideas for other moves like this (for example an Ice type move that's super effective against Ghost types)? Own Answers: Spoiler:

Oh my god I spent like a year trying to get Ice Punch on 4 gen 4 Weavile. There’s no TMs for it and no move tutor teaches it so the only way was to get a Medicham, heart scale Ice Punch onto it, get a Smeargal, have it sketch Ice Punch in a double battle and breed with a female Weavile.
I know now there’s any better moves for Weavile, but I had my heart set on Ice Punch and I gotta admit, it’s become endeared to me. |
Is/are there any move(s) you find yourself using often? Any favorite moves?
Outside the obviously reliable Ice Beam, I've always thought Ice Ball was cute and loved using it on my lil Spheal when I was training it! Powder Snow is also good, but mostly for the cuteness factor. I like thinking of little baby Snom and Alolan Vulpix with it. <3 How about moves you've never even heard about? Heard of them all! Though how many I forget the names of sometimes... probably enough lol. I'm not as good at remembering some of the more recent ice moves, I feel like the attack names have gotten a bit more complex. Or maybe I've just become less smart lol. Freeze-Dry is an Ice type move that hits Water types Super Effectively. Do you like the idea of moves like this that allow you to hit something super effectively that you otherwise couldn't? Any ideas for other moves like this (for example an Ice type move that's super effective against Ghost types)? Absolutely yes - it's unique and I wish they'd go similar routes for new moves. Sure, it's confusing at first, but it really shakes things up in competitive and is fun to learn about. An ice move that is super effective against fighting types would be cool, because who can move and use their muscles as well if they're cold and stiff? :D |
Is/are there any move(s) you find yourself using often? Any favorite moves?
I use Ice Beam and Ice Punch the most. Others more rarely used are Ice Fang and Icy Wind. It really depends on the game and how accessable the moves are. How about moves you've never even heard about? Idk? There are moves I've never even heard of them. Especially in the later generations there are a bunch of them that might have gone under due to there being a lot of moves exclusive to certain Pokemon and only at certain level ranges, etc. Still couldn't tell what "Triple Axel" is supposed to be without looking it up. xD Freeze-Dry is an Ice type move that hits Water types Super Effectively. Do you like the idea of moves like this that allow you to hit something super effectively that you otherwise couldn't? Any ideas for other moves like this (for example an Ice type move that's super effective against Ghost types)? They're fairly niche and I rarely get to care about them. They're either very exclusive so I rarely run into them or I just have other moves that already do the type coverage. That being said: I think Ice is a good offensive typing and I don't really see the need for other moves that reverse the effectiveness. Freeze-Dry is a nice move to have, don't get me wrong. I just think if we got more of those moves they would stop being special. |
Is/are there any move(s) you find yourself using often? Any favorite moves? Good ol' Ice Beam. I usually try to stick it on any special-attackers that can learn it!
How about moves you've never even heard about? I'm not sure if I'd heard of G-Max Resonance. Never used/battled G-Max Lapras on account of playing Sword and I sort of forgot about it after the DLC... Freeze-Dry is an Ice type move that hits Water types Super Effectively. Do you like the idea of moves like this that allow you to hit something super effectively that you otherwise couldn't? Any ideas for other moves like this (for example an Ice type move that's super effective against Ghost types)? It's great for coverage, so I love it. How about an Ice-type move so cold that it can freeze fire? Not that that's actually possible, but the concept has been used before in anime/manga. |
Is/are there any move(s) you find yourself using often? Any favorite moves?
Ice beam is probably my single most used move since I started playing Pokémon way back when! Special shout out to Aurora Beam for sounding so beautiful ❤ How about moves you've never even heard about? I've heard of most of them, but haven't used anywhere near all of them. I tend to be an attacking player, I don't use an awful lot of defensive moves. Freeze-Dry is an Ice type move that hits Water types Super Effectively. Do you like the idea of moves like this that allow you to hit something super effectively that you otherwise couldn't? Any ideas for other moves like this (for example an Ice type move that's super effective against Ghost types)? I actually really love this idea, but I would like them to be rare or hard to earn, otherwise there is the potential to make type matchings pointless. |

Do you have a favorite PokeBall you like to put your Ice Types in? I usually use whatever ball suits the Pokémon's appearance rather than its Type, but the Dive Ball looks fairly icy. The only thing letting it down is the splash animation. I agree that the Heavy Ball also works and has a much more fitting animation (at least in SWSH, not sure about other Gens). Personally, I'd like to see something along the lines of those crystal Poké Balls from the third movie! Do you have any Ice Pokemon merchandise? Feel free to share photo's if you want =3 Also yes the Icy water types from TCG count too =3 Ahh! I didn't know there was already a Frosmoth plush! Too bad I'm poor. T_T Outside of trading cards, I believe my only Ice-type merch includes a Lapras Poké Ball keychain, an Articuno power card from Burger King's second movie promotion, and an iridescent Dewgong marble. My most notable Ice-type Pokémon cards are probably Fossil Lapras and Sneasel ex (the latter being a Dark-Type card). The non-FA Shiny Frosmoth card is high on my wishlist! EDIT: Oh! I've also got a mini Lapras figure from one of those Polly Pocket-like sets. |

Lost 5 times along the way, which has the Tower deduct a victory from your total once. If you lose multiple times in a row it doesn't seem to keep decreasing your total victories past that though. Ended up with 57 Victories: Spoiler:
This team was pretty dang strong, but the gen 8 Tower is nothing to scoff at. They got whatever ability is best, whether it's normal or Hidden. They got held items. They are IV/EV trained. They got annoying as HECK coverage moves. That said I only lost 5 times, usually when my Cloyster died too soon. Spoiler:
Anyway, this was quite fun. I've never really spent that much time in the Tower in Pokemon Games. I picked the Galar Darmanitan randomly, because it was literally the only one amongst the 6 random Ice mons I tried beforehand that could actually lay down some punishment in there. (basically I tried beforehand to see how some random Ice types from my boxes that weren't IV/EV trained would fare... 2 wins out of like 6 attempts... yeah xD) TL;DR I used 3 mons I've never used before and all managed to pull their weight in their own way so I've got newly acquired fondness for these 3 =D Quote:

Not really. I'll just catch them with whatever ball I have available. If you think none of the currently existing PokeBalls fit (or just want a ball that works better on Ice Types =3), do you have any ideas for a PokeBall that's meant for Ice types? Maybe a Hot and Cold Ball that works well on anything that is Ice, Fire or Dragon would be fun. I actually don't know how a Poke Ball for Ice Types would work. Aesthetics is one thing but I also like to wonder what such a ball would be like in the inside. Would it be very cold inside, for example and how would that work? (yeah, I'm making it more difficult than it needs to be xD) Do you have any Ice Pokemon merchandise? I probably still have some cards with Ice Type Pokemon on them but nothing explicitly being about an Ice Type Pokemon. |

Don't know how many of us have BDSP, but for those that do: Are you using/going to use an Ice type on your team? own answer: Spoiler:
I've burned through all the question I had prepared beforehand tbh 😅 So if anyone has any topics they wanna bring up go for it =3 There is something I think we can still do weekly atm though =3 There are lots of people making Pokemon related Tier lists online, so I was thinking maybe we could all rate the Ice Type mons and make a 'Ice Types Club Ice Type Tier list? =3 Not sure how to spread this (as I think all at once is probably off putting), but I was thinking a random group of 5-6 Ice mons a week? The batch of mons will be drawn randomly, but if it's part of a line then the entire line goes up for judging (so if I draw Piloswine, Swinub and Mamoswine would be up for judging too) You can also discuss anything you want about the mon while rating it =3 As for how we'd be rating them I thought we could do something a little bit different and go with the Contest categories: Beauty, Clever, Cool, Cute, Tough. You'd rate the mon by whatever standard you want. You can just rate them by design (might be hard for Clever though), or based on moves/abilities they have etc. For each of the categories you'd say which rank the mon would have: Normal Rank (bad/dislike), Super Rank (meh/okay), Hyper Rank (Good), and Master Rank (Great/Amazing). When finished I can then make Tier lists for each contest category and put the mons in accordingly =3 So for example, if you think a mon is very Beautiful, Cute and cool, but not that Clever or Tough, you fill in something like this: https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/type/beauty.png: Master https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/type/clever.png: Super https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/type/cool.png: Hyper https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/type/cute.png: Hyper https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/type/tough.png: Super As for the first batch of mons to Judge: Spheal: Spoiler:

Do you have a favorite PokeBall you like to put your Ice Types in? Not really. I don't care much about Pokeballs my mons are in. If you think none of the currently existing PokeBalls fit (or just want a ball that works better on Ice Types =3), do you have any ideas for a PokeBall that's meant for Ice types? Frost Ball? Winter Ball? Arctic Ball? There's a plethora of names to give to specialty Pokeballs that work better on Ice Types hehe. Not sure why GF wouldn't just make a specialty ball for every type at this point. Do you have any Ice Pokemon merchandise? Not at the moment, but I've been eyeing a Snom plush for a while now... Are you using/going to use an Ice type on your team? I don't have BDSP atm, but if I eventually do, there's a good chance I'll give Snover a chance. I always loved that wijoo wijoo boy I also got 70/150 on that test. Pretty cool questions! (pun absolutely intended) |
Don't know how many of us have BDSP, but for those that do: Are you using/going to use an Ice type on your team? I don't have either and don't plan on getting them, unless LA doesn't get Mothim since I'm eager to use my most cherished full-odds Shiny again (he's trapped in HOME atm).
In the event that I actually do end up with them... I kind of doubt I would tbh. They're pretty late in-game and, after getting the final Badge, I'd probably transfer in my "Shiny team" from SWSH/HOME (which, looking at the BDSP roster, I'm thinking would include Wartortle, Mothim, Dunsparce, Leafeon, Porygon2, and maybe Shedinja). (No Ice-types here, but Wartortle and Porygon2 do know Ice Beam!) Rankings: Spoiler:

Don't have one currently, but so so interested in using Froslass!! But I always have to have an ice move on my team regardless.. such good coverage. Empoleon and Ice Beam go hand in hand. I just don't have room for Froslass right now (and already used Weavile). ;-; Rankings ~ Spoiler:

Are there any changes you'd like to see in the Ice type's Type match-ups? This could be defensive (for example give Ice type a new resistance) or offensive (give it a different or an extra type it's super effective against)
In my mind it makes sense to have Ice be super-effective against Water (it freezes them) and Bug (just like how it's strong against Grass). Ice also needs more resists other than itself. Would love if it resisted Water (it should make them stronger no?) and Normal type (punching a block of ice is just as painful as punching a rock/smth made of steel). And here are my rankings. Didn't get to do it last time so I'll include those as well. Spoiler:

The Gift of Surprise Event Today marks the start of an event in collaboration with 3 of the other type clubs: Dragon Ascent, The Fairy Type Club & the water pokemon club!. You have the whole of December to participate in it and try to get a new badge created for this event! =3 The goal of this event is to spread some Pokemon love through Wonder/Surprise trade during the season of giving =D You do not have to be in any of the four clubs to participate! You just need to go to one of the 4 participating Type clubs and indicate that you are there for the event when posting your box of mons. You will then be 'Honorary members' of that type club. And who knows, maybe you'll like the club and stick around? =3 https://www.pokecommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=99446&stc=1&d=1638373252 For anyone who is in multiple type clubs or no type club at all: you can just pick the type you wish to lend a hand and participate for! If you have enough time, you can participate with a box of mons for each the other clubs too if you want! (one box max per club) Special thanks goes to VisionofMilotic for her help getting additional type clubs on board and for her help getting a badge for this =3 Rules: -You can Wonder/Surprise trade ANY legitimate mon for the type club you want to participate for, as long as it has the typing of that type club! If, for example, you're participating for the Water Club, your mons need to have Water as one of their types! Beyond that, the mon choice is completely up to you! Just make sure you're actually okay with trading it away if it's something special like a shiny, legendary or has PokeRus etc. If you don't have enough mons you can go breed or catch them! -Make sure you post your submission in the corresponding type club's thread! -Deadline is midnight on December 31st to January 1st. Edit, as there was some confusion In the following order: -Try to gather a box full of mons (30) to trade away for the type of your choice. -Don't forget to take a screenshot/photo before you send them off! -Then Wonder/Surprise trade them all and keep what you first receive for your mon! So no endlessly trading till you have a full box of same type mons back. -Take a screenshot/photo again. -After completing the Wonder/Suprise Trade, provide a list of how many mons of that Pokemon Type you got back again. -Don't forget to include the screenshots in your submission! Quote:
You get a tier for the badge every year you manage to complete this event (Bronze -> Silver -> Gold). Don't forget to polish it! Also, if you didn't manage to complete the event this year, you can try again next year! =) People who do not reach the goal of 30 can still add to their type club's same type received back totals. Just post what you did get done! You won't be eligible for the badge, but you might still be able to help the club win =D Whichever club receives the most mons of it's type back will be the winning club and receive the Generous Gifter Trophy: https://www.pokecommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=99450&stc=1&d=1638374890 Full size: Spoiler:

Question! As a member of the Fairy, Dragon, and Ice Clubs, do we have permission to be super ambitious and do trades for every club?
|
Quote:
I do feel that if we allow it, people who aren't a member of any type clubs should be allowed to participate for multiple clubs too if they have the time for it. I'll quote Megan and VisionofMilotic to draw their attention =p Quote:

|
Quote:
I have a question. If you give away pokemon on behalf of multiple clubs, would you still have to trade 30 Pokemon of the same typing to get a badge i.e a box of 30 water types? Or could you mix-and-match the types, and still be eligible for the badge by trading for instance 10 water types, 10 fairy types and 10 dragon types to total 30? |
Quote:
|
Welp, time to get breeding for eligible mons to wonder trade - this will be exciting :3
|
Quote:
For the badge you need 30 of the same type for the club you participate for. So no mix-and-match there. Once you have completed that though, and if you still have time left, you could do anywhere up to 30 mons (there is no minimum, but 30 per club is definitely the maximum) for other clubs too. So for example you would do 30 dragons to get yourself the badge and after that you could do say 15 each for the Fairy, Water and Ice clubs. So once you've already qualified for the badge you could then mix-and-match a box of 10 for the other type clubs if you want. One thing to keep in mind though: If you plan to participate for multiple clubs, say for example the Water & Fairy clubs. Say you have 1 box full of Water types, and possibly another box full of fairy types. Any fairy types you receive back when Wonder/Surprise trading your Water Box do not count, only the Water types do. Meaning only fairy types you receive back when you are actually Wonder/Surprise trading your box of Fairies count (during which any Water types would ofc not count). So basically, for the mons you receive back, the only type that counts is the one that is of the Club that you are currently Wonder/Surprise trading for. It's gonna be a bit more to keep track of, but definitely possible. Quote:
But someone trading two boxes of dual types and counting the first box for one type and the second box for the other should be fine imo. As far as dual types are concerned, I'd say if someone trades away two boxes of the same mon for two different clubs, as long as 1 box is counted for 1 club, and the other box for the other, there shouldn't be a problem? So for example someone loads up two boxes full of Lapras. The first box is Wonder/Suprise Traded away for the Ice Club. They only count Ice types received back for their totals. The second box is Wonder/Surprise traded away for the Water Club. Now they only count the Water types received back. *hopes this all makes sense... kinda tired atm lol, been a long day @[email protected]* |
Okay, I’ve already got my box of 30. I’ve decided to go with Milcery and attach a few random Sweets to some for fun and to be extra nice. Should I supply a screenshot of all the Milcery?
|

If by all you mean your box that contains all your milcery then yes. The screenshots/photos requested are a before and after screenshot of the box that contains the mons you surprise/wonder trade. Perhaps an example would be clearest: Quote:

I've already done like 112 Pokémon and while I'm always taking pictures of the "Before" Volleys, I'm not always taking pictures of all the "after" pokémon - some were hacked, there were the ever present rain of Skwovets and Rookidees, so I'm mostly preserving the fairies and a few interesting Pokemon that I want for later use but I haven't been saving the derps or the 50th Charmander I get as it's 1) space consuming, 2) would stop the rolling release system to save time. Do I really need to throw that progress away? (I say progress like it wasn't 9 Fairies.) I think I already know the answer but there's no harm in asking, do Pokémon that aren't $TYPE, but evolve into $TYPE count? For example, Eevee counting for Water, Ice or Fairy, Koffing and Vulpix counting for Fairy or Swablu counting for Dragon. |
Quote:
1) Since you started before the clear example was up, I think I'd allow you to keep what you have now. Just provide what screenshots/photos you do have, as long as there is at least one before and one after shot/photo for the badge itself. Be sure to include the Fairy mons you got back in text form that are not represented on the screenshots/photo's. Also make sure you start taking the after screenshots/photo's from this point on. 2) Did you do 112 all for the fairy type? or across all 4 participating clubs? The box of 30 was intended as the maximum for a single type, because not everyone has as much time to spend on this. That said if someone wants to be more avid about it, I don't want to discourage it. I also want to prevent a situation where one person trades away like 1.000 fairies and gets 300 of them back to skew the results though. I might already have a potential solve for this by limiting the amount of same type mons you can get back to a maximum of 30. Edit: nvm - Apologies for the harassment to my co-conspirators ^.^ I'm sowwwy T^T (guess I just jumped the gun trying to help lol) ____________________________________ Quote:
The only potential exception might be a trade evolution that acquires the type, if you actually give it the item so that it evolves. (mainly thinking of Kingdra here who gains Dragon type) |

That is, keep trading until you receive 30 Pokémon of your desired type. If what you mean is "Get 30 Pokémon of the type, trade and post the before and after", that's easy enough to do again, yeah. I got a highly efficient farm by now. |
Quote:
First Gather 30 mons of 1 of the 4 types. Then take a screenshot and Wonder/Suprise trade them all away. Then take another screenshot/photo from what you received back. I'm glaring at the post now wondering if I can indicate the order more clearly =p |
Haha for some reason I thought I had to trade all one Pokémon. Honestly tho, like most of these can Gigantamax and have Sweets so I don’t feel that bad for picking only Milcery.
Anyway, my Switch has always had problems with screenshots, is it okay if I take a picture of my Switch? I’ll write a little note with the date and my username so you know I’m not just faking my Milcery box. That cool? Quote:

For those who are doing this on the 3DS or those who are doing it on the Switch, but can't get screenshots off their Switch: a photo is the other option. Just take a photo with your camera or phone of your Switch or 3DS with the box open, I don't think the note with username is necessary =) Just try to get the box on the photo as clear as you can ^.^ Also, it's not a requirement, but if you wanna provide additional photos or screenshots to show something off, you can! For example, boxes have a filter that makes it highlight the items the mons are holding, but hide the mon a bit. If you want to show off all the items you sent out you could do an additional photo or screenshot of that and add it. Again, that would be optional. |
All done!

If you, Megan and VisionofMilotic are okay with it I guess we could also just accept submissions for all clubs here as well. Quote:
I spy two fairies in your return box (the two Ralts). At any rate, you do qualify for the badge, so I imagine you'll see it awarded sooner or later =3 _________________________________________________ As for myself I'm busy prepping a box full of mons for each of the four type clubs lol |

My own submission for the Ice Club =3
I ran into a bit of a snag while Surprise Trading for the Ice Club, but the originally intended box was as follow: Spoiler:
But as already said I ran into a snag: Spoiler:
Idk why the heck it wouldn't let me trade the 2 kyurem's. I Surprise traded 2 water legendaries and 2 fairy legendaries for the Water and Fairy clubs with no problem afterward, yet my kyurem's aren't allowed D= Anyway I replaced the Kyurem's with 2 Heavy Ball HA Galar Darmanitan's: Spoiler:
End result: Spoiler:

Are there any changes you'd like to see in the Ice type's Type match-ups? I'm not sure how balanced it would be, but it definitely seems like Ice should be more effective against Water rather than less effective. Or at least neutral.
I participated in the Surprise Gift event! Traded a whole box of 5+ IV HA Jolly Moon Ball Alolan Sandshrew. Named 'em all Claus (get the pun?) and gave all but two of them Bottle Caps to hold (#24 and #25 had Gold Bottle Caps). Didn't get any Ice-types in return. https://i.imgur.com/ftU2sM6.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tnTJoYE.jpg |

Reports in for Ice-type Wonder Trading in Ultra Sun.
Attachment 99525 - Ten level 1 Alolan Ninetales with Snow Warning. Timid nature. Filled their moveset with egg moves. Gave all of them Jaboca Berries for fun. 4-5 perfect Individual Values. - Ten level 14 or 17 Glaceons with various abilities. Modest nature. Limited their moves to egg moves as well. Chose Custap Berries as their odd hold item. 4-5 perfect Individual Values. - Ten level 50 Avaluggs with Sturdy. Impish nature. Knows two egg moves (Recover and Mirror Coat). Decided on Enigma Berries for these. 4-5 perfect Individual Values. (Wondered how viable sending Ninetales over Vulpix would be. Checked the pack for Ice Stones. Had 93. When did this happen? Remembers trying to get various stones before. Usually searched for Brilliant Stones in Poke Pelago. Even so...) Watched countries. Wrote down Portugal, United States, France, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Italy, Germany, South Korea, and Northern Ireland. Cast a wider net than with Water. Results: Attachment 99524 Zero Ice-types. Would have been great for Water (8). Eclipsed Dragon (2) and Fairy (0) easily. Did not even rely on a flood of Magikarps. |

I have a question about the trade event. If it has already been answered, but have I overlooked it, then I'm sorry about this in advance.
I am currently trading on gen 6 with the pss, and had a question about trade requests from passerbys or people who apear on the acquaintance list. If I am approached to trade by a completely random person, or someone I may have previously wonder traded with, am I allowed to trade them any of the gift Pokemon for this event? Or is direct trading not permitted, and all Pokemon need to still pass through wonder trade? |
Quote:
Even if it's a random person, in a passerby trade you can still put mons up for display and switch around based on what the other has, possibly influencing the outcome. |
I am bummed because I wasn't a very lucky lady this time, and didn't get a single dragon Pokemon in return on wonder trade I'm afraid. In the past I have received bagon, gible, dratini and axew, as well as some Pokemon that have evolutions with dragon megas like treeko, mareep and charmander, so I had hoped I might score something for home team dragon, even though I expected there would be fewer of us than other elemental typings. I walk away with a badge, but without getting any points to share this time for my winged and clawed friends.
I wouldn't have fared much better as another typing it would seem. There were no ice pokemon o wonder trade either. Fairy and Water would have made more than 0, but still modest with 2 species of fairy flabebe and clefairy, and 4 water Pokemon, luvdisc, pelipper, suskrit and frillish. It just wasn't our night. https://i.postimg.cc/W3Lwdt63/IMG-20211215-061453235.jpg What shattered my soul though was one particular trade I made. The shiny noibat I put on wonder trade was traded to a notorious hacker! I'm sad about this because one of the reasons I traded shinies was that I wanted to gift Pokemon that I could rest assured would be appreciated by whoever the receiver was, due to their rarity. When I wonder traded a shiny Altaria I felt good as I watched it go to a kid in France who had had a message saying that they would love a shiny one day. I was happy because I knew I had made that person's day, and that even though this was a stranger, this Pokemon was going to a home where it would be treasured. In the irony of all ironies noibat went to the one person online who wouldn't appreciate it, becauase they hack in fake shinies all the time, that are stronger than the real one I gave. They might even release it because it didn't have 6 max IVs and all the egg moves they wanted, or they'll modify the Pokemon to make it just like their others :( I got one of their fake shinies in exchange for the real deal, but would have truly preferred to receive a regular Magikarp in this instance. /Cries https://i.postimg.cc/fbszj20D/axew-sad.gif |
Reporting in that I’ve done the Ice type challenge!
Here’s the thing though, I’m trading away the obvious hacks. So it shouldn’t take much longer but I want to trade in good faith, I hope that’s acceptable. It’s no fun when once again I get the same five hacked, shiny, GMAX Pokémon I got in the Fairy trade challenge. |
I've decided to breed Snom for the Wonder Trade challenge! It's one of my absolute favorites and I couldn't resist. These ones are being bred with a 6 IV Ditto so their IVs are very good as well, usually at least 3-4 perfect ones. :D Hatching my last few now before beginning the trade process. Will update with before and after screenshots when it's done!

really hope I didn't miss any submissions (feel free to call me out if I did) =3
Just a little update on the current standings: Dragon Ascent: 7 Dragon types. -Devalue: No Dragons. -Pikaboo: 3 Dragons (Dreepy, Dreepy & Appletun). -ReKoil: 4 Dragons (Kommo-o, Applin, Dreepy, Applin). -VisionofMilotic: No Dragons. The Fairy Type Club: 8 Fairy types. -Devalue: 2 Fairies (Cottonee and Carbink). -Fairy: 2 Fairies (Ralts & Ralts). -Pikaboo: No Fairies. -ReKoil: 4 Fairies (Mimikyu, Morelull, Morelull, Cottonee). Ice Types Club: 6 Ice types. -Devalue: No Ice types -Icycatelf: No Ice types. -ReKoil: 3 Ice types (Sneasel, Smoochum, Glalie). -Sheep: 3 Ice types (Snom, Galarian Darumaka, Snorunt) Water type club: 20 Water types. -Devalue: 7 Water types (six Magikarps and one Popplio). -Megan: 3 Water types (Corphish, Wingull, Psyduck). -Pikaboo: 3 Water types (Poliwag, Squirtle, Magikarp). -ReKoil: 7 Water types (Mareanie, Goldeen, Wooper, (East Sea) Shellos, Kingler, Cramorant, Chewtle). So atm, the Water Club is quite clearly in the lead! I wasn't expecting Ice to win, but dang are we low on Ice types back xD Quote:
When I was sending off my Suicune and the three Tapu's all I could do was cross my fingers and hope they'd end up with a normal trainer and not one of them instead. Luckily they did. I was honestly expecting Dragon to fare better. Personally I thought Dragon & Water would probably have the best chances of winning. Water simply because of how many Water mons there are, and Dragon because last time I Surprise Traded there were Dragons everywhere xD But I guess the fish in the Wonder/Surprise Trade pond changed from time to time. Been wondering if I would've gotten better results if I had traded a different day or time myself. Still would be RNG though. Quote:
If you want to trade them away before I guess it would be acceptable as long as you don't keep going till you get the same type mon as you sent away, but just accept the first non -obviously-hacked Pokemon. |

Here are my results! :D
Spoiler:
Ended up with 3 ice types post-trade. One Snom (French name!), Galarian Darumaka, and Snorunt. Honestly not a bad turnout with ice types being rare in general. :O |
I'm working on Water (and maybe Ice type) but just as a note, please don't trade the hacks. Remove them from the ecosystem altogether.
Trading them away just means another person gets a hacked Pokémon and that might means more hacked Pokémon in the competitive metagame. Perhaps a more palatable alternative is producing more legal Pokémon (you probably have a breeding factory if you're doing this anyway) to do another trade. |
Hiya! I like Black-Kyurem as a guardian! My favorite Ice-type Pokemon is probably a tie between Mamoswine and Black-Kyurem. They are just very strong and have always been reliable (a.k.a., not completely walled or annihilated by Steel-types). I also really like Jynx, and wish it had slightly better stats to work with.
Ice-type is actually not my personal favorite type. In fact, I don't normally use Ice-types at all except for Mamoswine in battle facilities like the Battle Tree or Tower. But "Shilah Mae Grace" is a comedic character I play on my comedy show, and part of her character is that she is Miss Antarctica of 2021. Therefore, she uses exclusively Ice-types in battle and seeks to make them viable in competitive play. I will say that in a normal playthrough, I do remember using a Jynx on my team for Pokemon Firered, where it was pretty strong (as its Psychic typing is awesome in Kanto). Weavile is also an interesting Pokemon to me because while it doesn't quite fit in my personal playstyle, it is working surprisingly well on "Shilah Mae Grace's" Ice-type Doubles team. Ice-types are very interesting in general because they're mostly glass cannons. |
Quote:
Welcome, Shilah Mae Grace! If you're doing a Battle Tree/Tower, Skill Link Cloyster is actually pretty dang strong =D I harassed the gen 8 SwSh Battle Tower with a Skill Link Cloyster, Gorilla Tactics Darmanitan and an Eiscue. Eiscue was a bit underwhelming but great for fighting types (especially when switching it in on them). The other two kicked major butt and I only lost a couple games while working my way up to 50 wins =D I don't know how they'd do in competitive though as I don't play it. |
My final results!
