What's the deal with Pokemon Oreos?

Hey guys.

I know some of the Oreos were selling for thousands of dollars, particularly the Mew. Now I see on eBay some have sold for as low as $6, even those that appear to be in good condition.

Were those higher-priced auctions shills? Something isn't adding up here.

because people are greedy and want money

Well, of course. Why were they going for such high prices when they now seem to be selling at more reasonable ones?

/shrugs. It's just what some people on the internet do. If someone wants something, they'll bring the price up. Ebay is just like that, I guess. Honestly, anyone selling the Pokemon Oreos for over a thousand dollars is ridiculous, anyway, and no one should charge that much for consumable cookies.

Collectors are willing to bid anything to get what they want, and Pokemon is no exception. I'd honestly just go see if you can find Pokemon Oreos at your local supermarket over buying them on Ebay.

I actually feel like the prices for Mew were high originally because people assumed it was rare. Then over time more and more people started getting it with the assumption that it can sell for a lot and listed it for sale, driving the prices down. Seems like it's not as rare as people initially thought?

I have no clue at all. I am not that interested in them at all as it's just a special designed Oreo with the mons on it.

Honestly, I blade the Charizard card from base said selling for like 300k. Because of that, people now think anything with pokemon on it is going to sell for a lot of money. It is a major reason for anything pokemon related as become so hard to find in stores. There is other obvious reason why, but it didn't really started after that card sold for so much.

Pretty much this. Especially with the new wave of pokemon "collectors" (resellers) thanks to the pandemic, they don't seem to know the value of things xD

i know i'm really late for this but i make it a general point to stay away from pokemon-themed foods. i'm not exactly what it is but it feels rather... off to me. maybe i'm just not used to them but i've never been comfortable with the idea as much as it would make from a marketing standpoint, haha.
