Did you drop your flashlights? At least turn on the light switch lest you accidentally run into some furniture. That stuff is expensive, you know? D:

ReKoil July 9th, 2022 9:41 AM

I need no flashlights... I can navigate my house perfectly fine in the dark =3
I probably better bring one when leaving it while dark though rofl

Why do you keep your Black Glasses on after sunset ?

ReKoil July 10th, 2022 6:39 AM

Maybe the night is too short for a slowpoke to catch on? 🤔

Megan July 10th, 2022 8:23 PM

The night is just too short, period.

StCooler July 11th, 2022 3:14 PM

It's not about nights being too short, it's about workdays being too long :(

I don't even want to work as much as I do. And then there are people who are working even crazier hours. <_<

ReKoil is now a Melteon. Global warming is taking all our best glaciers 😭

StCooler July 18th, 2022 5:20 PM

Shush, Melteon is the new Fire/Steel-type eeveelution to be announced for Gen 54...

Megan July 18th, 2022 8:34 PM

Gen 54 is the generation that gets released at the end of the year, isn't it? I still can't believe that we'll get 45 different generations this year...

Starlight July 19th, 2022 7:14 AM

And I will get round to playing gen 54 during the release of gen 97 as usual

StCooler July 19th, 2022 6:08 PM

And I'll have to spend hours implementing the code for all the new moves, new abilities, and they will release version 65 of Pokémon Essentials and I'll have to adapt to it again :(

ReKoil July 20th, 2022 10:09 AM

Don't forget about all the gimmicks!
Especially that one in gen 61, where every Pokemon could turn into a Slowpoke!

Megan July 20th, 2022 8:34 PM

Can't believe Mega Evolution is already 50+ generations in the past...remember Mega Evolution?

Sheep July 20th, 2022 10:40 PM

I miss megas so much. Dynamax is probably my least favorite of the gimmicks so far honestly. :(

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 21st, 2022 5:56 AM

Dynamax only lasts a few turns... In games as much as in the anime, I don't really like this system.

Striscia La Magicienne July 21st, 2022 8:16 AM

Dynamax is dyna....whacks????????????? I couldn't think of anything, but at least you could have Z-moves and Megas co-exist in some way. You can't really have Dynamax with the other two and it sucks, they were so awesome. I would've much preferred had we just got more Megas....

Imagine if we got Mega Regional variants. It'd be awesome! id die for a mega hisuian zoroark...

also p.s. i entirely forgot that sheep was the owner????????????? just....slipped my mind....only remembered it because I read the staff things.....

StCooler July 21st, 2022 9:28 AM

Dynamax is so unbalanced that it's even banned in from the National Dex tier of Smogon (unofficial tier with the complete Pokédex, where Mega-Evolutions and Z-moves are still allowed) and from Uber (which is the banlist of OverUsed, the official strategic tier).

I didn't know :O

Striscia La Magicienne July 21st, 2022 9:53 AM

XD see at least I have an excuse of having been here for like a week....how do you go almost two and a half years not realizing someone is the owner? Nothing against you, I've done..almost the exact same thing before....

Anyway, yeah, Dynamax sucks. Literally. Sucks all of the strategy out of it. Just.. Be big, do big move, have big effects, win. Pokemon with Dmax just boils down to "Who can utilize their 3 turns the best?" rather than actual strategy

Megan July 21st, 2022 10:02 PM

I liked Dynamax. I think it's a fun boss battle mechanic. However, I didn't use dynamax myself and only tried to beat the game without it. Word of advise: don't use Earthquake in the dynamaxed Eternatus fight. Your partners don't appreciate it. ^^"

Starlight July 22nd, 2022 5:08 AM

Count me as another Dynamax non fan? unfan? fantom? Idk

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 22nd, 2022 5:12 AM

I prefer Gardzilla. ^^

ReKoil July 22nd, 2022 10:07 AM

Dynamax was better than Z-moves at least. You had one attack per battle with those, that's it.
I didn't really like Megas myself, but I tend to dislike temporary stuff that gets removed in the next gen in general =p

I'd have highly preferred more new mons instead of some gimmick that doesn't stick around.

Megan July 22nd, 2022 10:10 PM

Did they already confirm that Dynamax was not in gen 9? I haven't kept track with the news.

Sheep July 23rd, 2022 4:54 AM

I'm not sure it's confirmed 100% yet, but it most likely won't make it, I think? Either way it's my least fav so not bothered lol.

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 23rd, 2022 5:22 AM

What I would like for Generation 9 : We can play a Pokémon as trainer (one who can hold and throw balls at least!)
Equality for humans and pokémon! XD

ReKoil July 23rd, 2022 11:02 AM

Why bother... just give me a enough PokeBalls and I'll enslave all the humans :fufu:

I just want some nice Pokemon designs and hopefully some unused type combinations.
Oh and another baby Ice type Pokemon would be dope.

Starters aside, I'm not really impressed by what I've seen so far.

Starlight July 23rd, 2022 4:23 PM

I would like Pokémon to drop some of the bloat and get back to being about the adventure

Megan July 23rd, 2022 8:44 PM

I like the first generation for the lack of story which allows me to make up my own. I also like how you can just go basically wherever you want and explore. So, I really would like to get that back.

Now, I know the reason why they even introduced the story formula from gen 3 onward was because GF really wanted to get the jRPG crowd into the series. And I'm also aware that those people are very much still a big percentage of the players playing the games. So I don't think they'll go back and do that.

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 24th, 2022 12:48 AM

I would like a MMORPG pokémon in which you can play as a pokémon, and join complementary teams to vanquish powerful foes!

ReKoil July 24th, 2022 8:42 AM

I think a game where they mix the gameplay of Legends with the 'you take a quiz and are reincarnated as a Pokemon' from the PMD games could be really nice.
Especially if they'd make some proper dungeons.

Wishful thinking though, most likely.

StCooler July 24th, 2022 3:35 PM

I found that Gen 9 starters looked good, and I heard speculations on the new game mechanic being about changing types. Yet another mechanic to code for Pokémon Essentials :(

Megan July 24th, 2022 8:08 PM

I'm probably the only one who looked at the gen 9 starters and thought "I don't want any of them". It's kind of a similar problem I had with gen 8, I suppose. I picked Scrobunny the first time around and didn't like its final evolution. So on my second playthrough I just ditched the starter altogether. That was the first time ever for me.

ReKoil July 25th, 2022 8:47 AM

I ditched my starter back in gen 7 on my first playthrough, after it became fully evolved and me being immensely disappointed with it. Tried playing with it for a bit to see if I could salvage it, but I disliked it too much and shoved catman into a box xD
To date the only starter I Boxed during a playthrough, though there are still a couple starters I never used at all.

I'm pretty much expecting Sprigatito's final evo to be bad at this point lol
At least it can't disappoint if I'm already assuming that beforehand 🤔

StCooler July 25th, 2022 8:54 AM

You should do like me guys!
My only ties to Pokémon right now are: the development of my fangame, many Youtube channels / streamers that I watch, and PokéCommunity!
I no longer play Pokémon games, so there is no disappointment.

I did Zeta / Omicron and Insurgence.
However, the main critique that I do to official games also applies to most fangames, that is: I no longer like the "new region + new evil team + being the chosen one of a legendary Pokémon + 8 champions + Pokémon League" formula.
The only difference between most fangames and official games, is the quality of the story + the new Pokémons. But the main formula is actually what bothers me the most ^^"

Megan July 25th, 2022 8:54 PM

I mostly agree with that, actually. Though, I'd add that fan games usually try too hard to promise a lot of things only to fall flat in delivery. It's easy to say you allow every Pokemon up to date to be caught and you offer multiple regions. But most of the time it feels very arbitrary and crammed because you need to fit every Pokemon somewhere to make that possible. And you also need to make silly restrictions just so you have enough stuff to make a second region even worthwhile. The latter wouldn't be so bad if the games didn't try too hard to tell a story. Though at that point we're just getting back to the point where I said that I don't like story driven Pokemon games while seemingly the majority does.

ReKoil July 26th, 2022 9:20 AM

I always play Pokemon games for the new mons. Can't have too many favorite mons =3
I usually don't even pay attention to the story 😅

StCooler July 26th, 2022 4:48 PM

Regarding the "story VS gameplay" debate, I am more interested in "gameplay" videogames, rather than the story, but when I play a videogame that tries to tell a story, I still pay attention to it :)

I don't think I'm in either camps, tbh. Gameplay can be fun. But then there's games like Xenoblade 2 whose system I've yet to fully understand. And that's coming from someone who's beaten game twice already. On the other hand I really like the theming and story of that game. The good thing about the gameplay is that you can get overpowered easily so it doesn't end up being too much of a problem. It also has some very big areas that are fun to explore.

And of course, opposed to that: I like the simplistic gameplay of the Pokemon games. Not having to worry about difficulty also helps. It's just sad that even the less linear games these days feel very linear. ^^"

I guess I've just gotten detached/uninterested from/in Pokemon's attempts at story in particular.
Then again... I'm not entirely sure I've ever been interested in it at all when it comes to Pokemon, it's pretty much always been about the mons for me 🤔

In other games, especially in RPG's like The Witcher or The Elder Scrolls or even Fallout, I'll pay attention.
Heck I've played a whole bunch of Telltale games which are basically only story and next to no gameplay =P

So story vs gameplay... I guess it just kind of depends on the game for me. I can value either equally.

StCooler July 28th, 2022 12:32 PM

But Megan and Starlight, do you play the recent Pokémon games?

I left Pokémon after Black and White, but I still like the creatures, the competitive scene, and some Youtuber/streamers. Also I wanted to love the fangame scene, but they're mostly producing the same games as GameFreak.

Probably. Though, I definitely don't have as much of an interest in gen 9 as e.g. Xenoblade 3. Like, guess which game I won't spend an entire hour walking through pouring rain with insufficient rain protection just to get a copy. :P

Not sure which version to get. I'll see what information they will reveal about them...

ReKoil July 31st, 2022 11:21 AM

I'll buy one of them, but haven't decided which yet. Based solely on box art legendaries I'd go with Violet, because Scarlet's legendary looks like it has a tire stuck in it's throat =p
Violet's legendary is underwhelming to me as well, but the better of the two as far as design goes imo. I actually preferred the gen 8 doggos over these two lol
I can still change which I'll get depending on version exclusives.

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 31st, 2022 12:16 PM

Is it because the site loads the whole thread, instead of only the page you selected?

There's only a couple threads where there's a pretty noticeable delay between hitting Post and it actually posting, for me anyway.
The Pokemon Race in PT is one of them.

Not laggy as in frames are dropping on the screen.

At a certain point it takes forever from sending a new post to it actually getting added to a thread. From what we've seen so far that's at around the 130 pages mark which is why we end up closing threads and making new ones whenever ours hit that number. PT for example doesn't do that which is why there are a couple threads that have this sort of lag. It's one of the reasony why I don't go into the hangman thread all too often these days, for example. ^^"

ZeoStar August 4th, 2022 3:36 AM

You can also increase the number of posts you see per page through settings.

I don't know if that would help with the loading time.

ReKoil August 4th, 2022 9:58 AM

I feel like that would have the opposite effect?
Idk how the forum loads threads though.

ZeoStar August 4th, 2022 12:45 PM

Ooooooh...
I did notice some delay between hitting the post button and actually posting sometimes, but I didn't realise it was linked to the length of the thread. I thought it was my internet or maybe the server.

Even if it did help the point still stands. You shouldn't need to mess around with your settings just because the forum behaves weirdly in specific cases.

It's most likely a quirk of the forum software that we use. There's a high chance it'll go away once we move to newer software. Once we get there we could even run this game indefinitely. :3
