Fact Checking Gardevoir July 22nd, 2022 5:12 AM

I prefer Gardzilla. ^^

ReKoil July 22nd, 2022 10:07 AM

Dynamax was better than Z-moves at least. You had one attack per battle with those, that's it.
I didn't really like Megas myself, but I tend to dislike temporary stuff that gets removed in the next gen in general =p

I'd have highly preferred more new mons instead of some gimmick that doesn't stick around.

Megan July 22nd, 2022 10:10 PM

Did they already confirm that Dynamax was not in gen 9? I haven't kept track with the news.

Sheep July 23rd, 2022 4:54 AM

I'm not sure it's confirmed 100% yet, but it most likely won't make it, I think? Either way it's my least fav so not bothered lol.

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 23rd, 2022 5:22 AM

What I would like for Generation 9 : We can play a Pokémon as trainer (one who can hold and throw balls at least!)
Equality for humans and pokémon! XD

ReKoil July 23rd, 2022 11:02 AM

Why bother... just give me a enough PokeBalls and I'll enslave all the humans :fufu:

I just want some nice Pokemon designs and hopefully some unused type combinations.
Oh and another baby Ice type Pokemon would be dope.

Starters aside, I'm not really impressed by what I've seen so far.

Starlight July 23rd, 2022 4:23 PM

I would like Pokémon to drop some of the bloat and get back to being about the adventure

Megan July 23rd, 2022 8:44 PM

I like the first generation for the lack of story which allows me to make up my own. I also like how you can just go basically wherever you want and explore. So, I really would like to get that back.

Now, I know the reason why they even introduced the story formula from gen 3 onward was because GF really wanted to get the jRPG crowd into the series. And I'm also aware that those people are very much still a big percentage of the players playing the games. So I don't think they'll go back and do that.

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 24th, 2022 12:48 AM

I would like a MMORPG pokémon in which you can play as a pokémon, and join complementary teams to vanquish powerful foes!

ReKoil July 24th, 2022 8:42 AM

I think a game where they mix the gameplay of Legends with the 'you take a quiz and are reincarnated as a Pokemon' from the PMD games could be really nice.
Especially if they'd make some proper dungeons.

Wishful thinking though, most likely.

StCooler July 24th, 2022 3:35 PM

I found that Gen 9 starters looked good, and I heard speculations on the new game mechanic being about changing types. Yet another mechanic to code for Pokémon Essentials :(

Megan July 24th, 2022 8:08 PM

I'm probably the only one who looked at the gen 9 starters and thought "I don't want any of them". It's kind of a similar problem I had with gen 8, I suppose. I picked Scrobunny the first time around and didn't like its final evolution. So on my second playthrough I just ditched the starter altogether. That was the first time ever for me.

ReKoil July 25th, 2022 8:47 AM

I ditched my starter back in gen 7 on my first playthrough, after it became fully evolved and me being immensely disappointed with it. Tried playing with it for a bit to see if I could salvage it, but I disliked it too much and shoved catman into a box xD
To date the only starter I Boxed during a playthrough, though there are still a couple starters I never used at all.

I'm pretty much expecting Sprigatito's final evo to be bad at this point lol
At least it can't disappoint if I'm already assuming that beforehand 🤔

StCooler July 25th, 2022 8:54 AM

You should do like me guys!
My only ties to Pokémon right now are: the development of my fangame, many Youtube channels / streamers that I watch, and PokéCommunity!
I no longer play Pokémon games, so there is no disappointment.

You could also try fan games! There are some who truly are great! Insurgence, Reborn, Omicron, ...

I did Zeta / Omicron and Insurgence.
However, the main critique that I do to official games also applies to most fangames, that is: I no longer like the "new region + new evil team + being the chosen one of a legendary Pokémon + 8 champions + Pokémon League" formula.
The only difference between most fangames and official games, is the quality of the story + the new Pokémons. But the main formula is actually what bothers me the most ^^"

Megan July 25th, 2022 8:54 PM

I mostly agree with that, actually. Though, I'd add that fan games usually try too hard to promise a lot of things only to fall flat in delivery. It's easy to say you allow every Pokemon up to date to be caught and you offer multiple regions. But most of the time it feels very arbitrary and crammed because you need to fit every Pokemon somewhere to make that possible. And you also need to make silly restrictions just so you have enough stuff to make a second region even worthwhile. The latter wouldn't be so bad if the games didn't try too hard to tell a story. Though at that point we're just getting back to the point where I said that I don't like story driven Pokemon games while seemingly the majority does.

ReKoil July 26th, 2022 9:20 AM

I always play Pokemon games for the new mons. Can't have too many favorite mons =3
I usually don't even pay attention to the story 😅

StCooler July 26th, 2022 4:48 PM

Regarding the "story VS gameplay" debate, I am more interested in "gameplay" videogames, rather than the story, but when I play a videogame that tries to tell a story, I still pay attention to it :)

We're old Megan ;)

I don't think I'm in either camps, tbh. Gameplay can be fun. But then there's games like Xenoblade 2 whose system I've yet to fully understand. And that's coming from someone who's beaten game twice already. On the other hand I really like the theming and story of that game. The good thing about the gameplay is that you can get overpowered easily so it doesn't end up being too much of a problem. It also has some very big areas that are fun to explore.

And of course, opposed to that: I like the simplistic gameplay of the Pokemon games. Not having to worry about difficulty also helps. It's just sad that even the less linear games these days feel very linear. ^^"

Well, you know how it is: old but gold :3
Also: telling everyone you're old when you're only 21, I can't believe it! D:

I guess I've just gotten detached/uninterested from/in Pokemon's attempts at story in particular.
Then again... I'm not entirely sure I've ever been interested in it at all when it comes to Pokemon, it's pretty much always been about the mons for me 🤔

In other games, especially in RPG's like The Witcher or The Elder Scrolls or even Fallout, I'll pay attention.
Heck I've played a whole bunch of Telltale games which are basically only story and next to no gameplay =P

So story vs gameplay... I guess it just kind of depends on the game for me. I can value either equally.

StCooler July 28th, 2022 12:32 PM

But Megan and Starlight, do you play the recent Pokémon games?

I left Pokémon after Black and White, but I still like the creatures, the competitive scene, and some Youtuber/streamers. Also I wanted to love the fangame scene, but they're mostly producing the same games as GameFreak.

Fact Checking Gardevoir July 28th, 2022 1:31 PM

Well, I will let you keep debating about games, while I go and win this thread!
