Do you like Christmas?

" According to the radio
Warmer weathers on the way
The chances are we won't be getting snow
But even if the sun shines from now to Christmas Day
As far as I'm concerned, I know

It's gonna be a cold, cold Christmas without you
Dreaming of those warm, warm, lazy summer days
It's gonna be a long and lonely Christmas without you
Missing you, my darling
In oh, so many ways "

The question is quite easy. Do you like Christmas?

The Christmas song I like the most are: Dana - It's gonna be a cold cold christmas - Wham! - Last Christmas - Mariah Carry - All I want for Christmas

I like it! Though my parents aren't as big as others with celebrating since we have our own holidays. I honestly just love seeing everyone else get or gift things and seeing how happy they get, definitely rubs off on me and makes me happier lol.

A few years ago when I was working in a factory sorting documents I had an Apple Music free trial and would listen to this to death. It's so catchy and good for the holidays.

Roni December 1st, 2021 7:52 AM

I'm a big fan because of the colder weather and the fact that I can still ask my family for gifts yay <3

Fave Christmas song has to be the choral version of Carol of the Bells. Back when I was still in my college choir, I used to always look forward to singing that and hearing the hauntingly beautiful melody and composition. Super short but such an ear worm.

ReKoil December 1st, 2021 9:53 AM

I like Christmas yes.
It has gotten a bit cumbersome though ever since my sister got 2 kids and my brother 4... takes me quite a while to shop for 11 people @[email protected]
Especially since I only ask people what they want as a last resort, if I absolutely can't find anything I think they'll like. Has only happened a couple times so far =D

I don't really listen to any Christmas song in particular, but that Mariah Carey song is pretty much everywhere so I'll end up hearing it soon enough again @[email protected]

christmas is my favorite holiday!!

i don't like christmas.....I love christmas!!!

gimmepie December 1st, 2021 10:51 AM

I like Christmas... sort of. I always enjoy the day itself but the lead-up is just awful. It feels like the lead-up starts earlier every year too. I seriously was hearing Christmas talk from people in mid-September this year and the ads started not soon after. Then there's all the fuss trying to figure out what's happening for Christmas lunch/dinner... and the music is awful.

The day itself though is always nice. Boxing day is even better.

Ivysaur December 1st, 2021 11:03 AM

Ehhh... not really? As an atheist with a small family I see pretty often who hates the cold in a city where it barely ever snows (and when it does, it's a week-long disaster that takes us months to recover from), Christmas means "I can't go to the city centre because there are thousands upon thousands of people crowding it so that part of the city is off-limits until February" and little else. I usually volunteer to work on the 24th and I grab my mandatory week of holidays on the New Year week, which does have meaning for me.

Palamon December 1st, 2021 11:21 AM

Nope, I'm Jewish, I fucking hate Christmas. I hate how my holiday is completely goddamn skipped over and ignored by everything because Christmas is so engraved into the brains of everyone. Christmas is shoved down our asses as soon as literally Halloween is over, sometimes decorations are even on sale as early as August. Like, fuck off with that shit. Wait until after Thanksgiving, thank you.

Every year, I'm reminded that Christmas is coming. But you know what Hanukkah gets? Nothing. Barely anything. And by the time most people think about it, it's already over. By the way, Hannukah is right now.

I honestly think commercialism killed Christmas. So, every year around this time of year I'm an angry Jewish person. Since any holiday that isn't Christmas around this time of year is ignored by the media, ignored by retail, ignored by pretty much everything.

I know I'm cursing a lot in this post, but I'm just mad.
Don't do the no fun allowed meme, I don't want to hear it. Let me be angry about this.

I’m ehhhh.. Most holidays, but specifically Christmas are hit or miss with me. I have a lot of familial trauma that loves to surface this time of year and I have a tendency to shut down and clam up. Holidays were never really something I looked forward to as a kid since it just meant being the only child in a room full of piss drunk adults. And now as an adult myself it just doesn’t have the warmth I think other people feel.

Still, I like buying things for people. Giving gifts feels nice. Can’t stand receiving them though, haha. I’m just not good at accepting things for free like that! I can’t help it. (˘̩╭╮˘̩)

Sothis December 1st, 2021 12:44 PM

Christmas itself is fine, but I can't take the crowds and rudeness of people during the holidays.

Duck December 1st, 2021 12:47 PM

I like the break I get from school / work when it comes to Christmas.

The holiday itself? Not really.

I live in a tropical country so it's hot as balls and I'm not really huge on parties (even less so with family members) so it's just meh. I've been trying to lose weight recently so I also dread the terrible caloric intake that Christmas and New Years will inevitably bring.

Nah December 1st, 2021 1:06 PM

When I was a kid I loved it (as a lot of kids do) since it meant playing in the snow on winter break and free stuff and the innocence of youth made it seem like such a fun time of year.

The time off is still nice, but now I'm an old lady who hates the cold and snow (and ice) and am like "the fuck do I even want these days (that is reasonable to ask)?". The holiday's lost its charm cuz all that warm fuzzy shit is a lie, it's just about capitalism and has been for a long time. Not that much brings me joy these days anyway.

Don't have religious reasons either since I'm atheist.

ZeoStar December 1st, 2021 1:14 PM

I love it. I soak the entire season in.

Devalue December 1st, 2021 5:23 PM

Not particularly. Likes the holiday in theory. Encourages people to think about others. Views forced gift-giving as awkward in practice. Creates too large of a possibility of unwanted gifts. Never felt good for choosing well either.

Acknowledges wishlists as a way of sidestepping negative consequences. Asks why giving gifts needs to happen at all, then. Why not purchase everything for yourself and forego gifts? (Assumes equal means, of course. Excludes children.) Accomplishes basically the same thing.

Gains nothing from family gatherings. Does not dislike the people in question. Prefers being around less people, not more. Feels like a long obligation, not dissimilar to a (routine) medical appointment. Breathes a sigh of relief when it is over.

(Might attribute this attitude to much larger Thanksgiving gatherings (30-40 people?) in childhood. Traveled 3.5 hours. Recognized names and faces from pictures. Described them as virtual strangers otherwise. Answered the usual questions of "How are you?" and "How is school?". Lacked anything to ask back. Spent most of the rest of it in silence.)

Pulls nothing from the religious side, as an atheist. Never pushed that too hard, surprisingly. Grew up with a fairly religious mother. Attended only one or two Christmas services in memory. Downplayed Santa from the start, though.

I agree with pretty much everything in this post.

Adding to that: Christmas is fun for kids, but not really for adults. I didn't think much of Christmas as I got older and really don't want any gifts. My mom always gives me one, though, and I usually ask for something simple like candles (I might be addicted. I have like 50 candles, at least; please send help).

Now that I have a son, things are a bit different. Not so much this year, but come this time next year when he truly has his "first" Christmas, it'll be a lovely holiday for him to be rewarded for his (hopefully) good behavior with whatever he wants. I'm forgoing the whole Santa thing for that reason. Christmas is about family and love, not presents, so I want him to associate his gifts with being responsible and bonding with his mother and father, rather than commercialism.

I also like giving back to my mom with gifts on Christmas as well. Just another facet of the family bonding and showing love in any way I can, even if it's just making a huge spread of food for my mom to come pick at so she won't have to make dinner or worry about cleaning up.

It'll be my first Christmas without my grandmother, but also my first Christmas with my puppies and son. It's a little bittersweet. Not going to be doing much this holiday season.

RadEmpoleon December 2nd, 2021 2:28 PM

I loved Christmas as a kid (like many kids) but now I prefer Halloween. Do I still like Christmas? Yes, but the thing I hate the most is when people start preparing for Christmas too early. Selling Christmas decorations in October, are you serious? IT'S STILL HALLOWEEN! Same goes for Christmas music. By the time it's actually Christmas, you'll be sick of hearing 15 covers of the same song over and over and over again on radio stations or in stores. (At least that's how I feel about Christmas music.) Oh, and don't get me started on All I Want For Christmas Is You. I absolutely despise that song. Fight me

That said, I like the Carol of the Bells cover by Trans Siberia Orchestra. There's also a few j-core Christmas songs I like too- Jingle Death and Psylent Crazy Night- but I would never hear those in a store or on the radio in a million years.

Harmonie December 4th, 2021 8:21 PM

I love Christmas! It's most definitely my favorite holiday of the year. Mainly because I love winter and hate Spring/summer so when we're coming up on winter, I'm at my happiest. (The weather has been mild and yucky this year, though so that's aggravating.) I celebrate Christmas as the winter solstice, so I go all out on decorating. We have like 6+ trees up in the house, at least half of them are in my room. xD Decorated trees and lights are all so pretty. It's such a pretty time of the year, with everything all decorated. =)

Despite being non-religious, I tend to be drawn toward the old Christian carols. Especially O Come O Come Emmanuel and Coventry Carol, both of which have very old melodies. So it's not the religious aspect by any means, it's just that the songs are older and I like older music (especially "minor" modal music). I like some secular Christmas songs as well. Merry Christmas, Darling by The Carpenters has been one of my favorites since I was little.

Hyzenthlay December 5th, 2021 11:27 AM

Christmas is what you make of it, really - even now as an adult, I've kept my childish love and excitement for it! I adore Christmas. Most years it doesn't even turn out very happy (at least, not anything like those idyllic family Christmases you see in movies), yet I keep finding myself looking forward to it again and again. The decorations, the food, the presents under the tree, the entire atmosphere is beautiful, even here in the Aussie summer!

When I have my own family one day, I intend to make every Christmas a happy memory for my children. <3

Megan December 6th, 2021 9:06 AM

Not really. It's a good excuse to get vacation because I don't have to explain my boss why I take a couple days off and I don't have to worry about him not allowing it.

It was alright when I was a kid but even back then I didn't even know what presents I wanted to get. Nowadays there aren't a lot of people I need to get gifts for. From the few left most don't want any presents. Actually, only reason why I even bother is because my mother doesn't like it if we don't do it.

I'm over Christmas songs, tbh. I also don't like how crowded things are during Christmas season. Add these two together and you get a very explosive mixture.

But idk: maybe if I had people around me that I'd feel like being part of the group then things would be different? The groups I have as an option are rather...difficult. ^^"

Aslan December 6th, 2021 2:04 PM

I like Christmas! I've mostly only ever grown up with Christmas in the summer but had the chance to experience a White Christmas once and it was beautiful. We don't always celebrate but I've always enjoyed the Christmas break period because it feels like a proper break and a time to unwind for once. This year I'm looking forward to buying or making surprise gifts for people but am still trying to think of what to buy. :(

Astinus December 6th, 2021 3:37 PM

I used to hate Christmas and everything surrounding it. (Except the weather. Snowy winter is my favorite season.) The way people acted. The music. The greed and seeing people so desperate to find the "right gift" that was only going to be returned the next day. For years, I was a very cynical person when it came to the holiday.

Things changed in recent years when I got someone to help me celebrate Christmas in a different way. Said someone also makes me feel positive about a lot of things, so even the music doesn't bother me. (Maybe because I don't like a lot of traditional Christmas music. I like "Surfin' Santa" and he likes "Marshmallow World".) It's just be a shift in my attitude about the whole situation because I think about it differently.

A lot of Christmas lovers!!

Last weekend I watched all of the Princess switch movies and I LOVED IT!
Any tips for good christmas movies?

Hermione Granger December 8th, 2021 4:24 PM

I enjoy Christmas, and it is not about the gifts, it is about spending time with family and food for me.

I agree with that. Every Christmas I realize how lucky I am with the people who are around me.

colours December 11th, 2021 12:27 PM

i think as i've gotten older, i've mostly appreciated the holiday season more rather than christmas itself. this is mostly because i can always buy presents for myself and "splurge" a bit if i'm in the mood to. it's because of this that i've learned to relish in the lead up to christmas as i can placebo myself into thinking that the world is a nicer place if only for a brief moment.

RedDragonThunderzord December 18th, 2021 8:38 PM

I like Christmas, for the same reason I like Thanksgiving: my brother and his boyfriend will (hopefully) come over, and we'll all enjoy a nice meal together.
