The best days are those that fly! |
241 402
Whenever I try to get a good grasp on the moment I always realize that our western dependance on the clock is very much hindering. There are many civilizations that don't rely on time measurement who still end up doing fine and end up a lot happier, too. |
241 403
I don't necessarily mind the days that fly by it's just that I often feel like I wasted them by not really doing anything in particular =P |
241 404
Quote:
Well, I don't envy them, they live hard, unstable and precarious lives and I wouldn't assume they are happier ^^" I'd say we depend on the clock because we are trying to fit too many things in a same day! Quote:

I kinda got inspired by people talking about how they have experimented with these types of lifestyles (not relying on the clock, for example). They seemed to have made some good experiences with it. Though, it also needs to be stated that they're also self-employed. They don't need to obey to people's rules other than themselves most of the time. ^^" |

Lol abacus. Nothing competes with the good old ten finger system! :P |

Honestly one should just ask Cooler to count so you can blame him when things go wrong 😉 Spoiler:

241 410
Let's count on Cooler's count. |

But I have only six! |
241 412
Maybe add the bottom pieces of your dress into the count? 🤔 or the fingers of your fallen enemies 😈 |
241 413
You could also just use Hypnosis to put someone to sleep and count on their fingers instead. |
241 414
Fun fact: I've tried to get hypnotized and it didn't work on me ^^" |
241 415
Isn't hypnosis a thing that only works if you believe in it? I don't really trust that stuff. |
241 416
I've never tried it. Don't really believe in it either. |
241 417
I will probably follow an hypnosis course at some point lol. I wanna learn how to do that. Anyway all I know is that there's a lot of misconception around it. |
241 418
As far as I understand, it is not a magic thing, but rather, the target is "feeling" so much social pressure to "obey" the hypnotist that their brain is basically obeying without question. That's why it doesn't work on everyone, not everyone feels so much pressure. |
241 419
Social pressure huh... yeah that tends to be ineffective on me =P |
241 420
I'm probably seen as a huge jerk irl for not wanting to follow certain traditions. Like throwing birthday parties. Why should I throw money at people I don't like so they can eat and drink on my behalf if I don't even like being alife, let alone had a birthday. And why do I need to buy Christmas presents for people I only meet like once or twice a year? |
241 421
Quote:
I'm made to feel like a jack*** whenever I have to tell someone not to buy me anything for some stupid holiday that I don't even celibrate. Much less try to think of some rudimentary 'object' to 'prove' that I 'really know them' or whatever the hell when they do! Seriously, **** that. Let me buy someone a gift on my own time, for someone that I actually like, for just being a decent person. Not for some dumb*** 'Tradition'. |
241 422
Depends on the holiday for me. I quite like Christmas. I don't do Christmas gifts every year anymore though. My brother and his wife are like rabbits and my wallet can't handle all the new additions if I keep doing it yearly xD |
241 423
I've been away from my family for like 7 years in a row so I've spent most of my Christmas's alone, so no money wasted on presents :coolcat: I even forget my own birthday lol. |
241 424
Is it today perhaps? Lol |
241 425
StCooler is the gift that keeps on giving. Except for himself |

241 435
I got a bonus this month. It's actually enough for an entire months worth of paying bills. So, I spent an entire week looking for stuff I could buy with it. I need a new computer at some point as my current one is slowly dying. Then my mother let me know that taxes happened and she needs money. So, basically, I never got anything out of that bonus. And I'm feeling very empty inside. <_< |
241 436
Did you at least set aside some of the money for the eventual computer replacement? I would've bought the computer or set money aside for it first. Although I personally don't mind lending any excess money to relatives in need, I do need to actually consider it excess. My own computer is getting pretty old too and will need replacement sooner or later. I wanna try to keep using it until it's reached being a decade old though, at the least. The stuff I do on a daily basis it still handles fine so the main problem will be if my keyboard will last. Certain letters struggle to show up even after multiple button presses. And for example my Print Screen and 9/( buttons no longer work at all. I literally copy paste that bracket out of text file instead xD Quote:
|
241 437
Money isn't an issue for me. Even without that bonus I could easily affort a new PC. For years I've only spent the bare minimum of my wages to pay bills and get food. So, giving my mother money would have been possible even without that bonus, as well. But I'm also bad at spending money. Like, I literally try to spend more but always fall back to my default minimum behavior. ^^" That bonus kinda had a psychological effect where I felt like I could finally affort something without that nagging feeling in the back of my head... My laptop actually is already over ten years old. The touchpad has been broken for years, the keyboard has a bunch of keys not working. I've actually been using an external keyboard+mouse for years now. The harddrive has slowed down significantly. This year it also randomly started failing at times: I've already had three instances where booting it up lead to "no operating system found" error messages. So, it is an indicator that I want to look for a new PC in the future. ^^" |
Lol, I guess you should look at a new PC indeed.
If I knew where I would end up living and working, I'd get a home computer and eventually replace parts with the passing of time. But that will probably take another decade if I am lucky, so I have to stick with laptops for now. |

A laptop that lasts 10 years :O I had a gaming laptop for six years, it still works very well, but it's no longer enough to run modern games (I wanted to play Sekiro and Monster Hunter, and it couldn't...). I'm a bit sad I had to replace this long-lasting, loyal and reliable laptop for performance reasons and not because it was not working... |
241 441
To be fair: I've kinda used and abused mine quite a lot. I originally got it for 800€ in 2012. So it was a pretty alright model. It was my first experience of getting an advanced Linux system installed (one of those where you have to do everything manually). That was quite a pain. ^^" It's a gaming laptop but especially in the later years I've only really used it for browsing and Youtube and stuff like that. That doesn't change the fact that I've played games like Skyrim on it before. There was even a time when the fan started getting louder so I tried opening and cleaning it. Putting it back I ended up with a couple screws left unscrewed and a touchpad that no longer worked and my broken keys probably date back to that event, as well. ^^" And that was like 2 or 3 years into its life cycle. Given that it still survived for that long I'm just really impressed. For all I know I might never get one like this ever again. Like, its estimated life span was 4 years. At least that's what the guy who sold it told me. |
241 442
Yeah I won't spend more than 1000 euros on a laptop tbh. I am a long time laptop user as well. The only downside to this is that with time your computer is quite less powerful if compared to the rest. I ended up two years ago working with a laptop with 4GB of RAM. That's not too great. So, when I got my new laptop two years ago, I just went for good specs so that it keeps performing even after many years. Actually, Linux helps. My old laptop worked really good with Arch. The only thing that kept not working was the webcam. When I set it up it worked alright, but then it would stop working at times and I had to set up it again. If I had the want and knowledge of today, I'd probably go and fix it lol |
241 443
Megan's Laptop only has 2 years on mine =O Bought mine in January 2014, so in another 9 months it'll be a decade old. Iirc it was around € 1.050 at the time. It had a pretty strong i7 line processor, and the first couple years were smooth. Then overheating started setting in due to dust clogup and I started cleaning it as best as I could since I could not actually open the fan without having to disassemble the entire dang thing. I bought a cooling pad at the time and I could still run a lot of demanding games on it for quite some years. I haven't used it much for gaming anymore last 2 years roughly, simply because it can't handle any demanding games anymore for longer periods of time. Which isn't much of a problem as I've been gaming on the Switch lite instead =P |
241 444
It's funny how nowadays you find laptops with 16 or 32 GB of RAM everywhere. I never really made much use of the 8 I have on my current one. ^^" My next one is probably one that is built to last. The only thing I don't like is that every new one seems to come with an SSD instead of an HDD. They are faster. That's true. But they also have a reduced lifespan. So, I don't know what I'll do. I may need to come up with a different backup strategy, too. Just in case. |
241 445
Did I need a gaming laptop with an RTX 3070 and 32 Go of RAM? Probably, unfortunately I'm only playing LoL on it XD |
241 446
Did it come with fancy lighting stuff? It's not 'gaming' if it doesn't have some fancy lights! 😉 |
241 446
I think the only RGB stuff I ever owned was an old mouse. It was a little bit too big for my hands. |
241 448
I've had plenty of rgb keyboards c: the feature grew tiresome rather fast. |
241 449
My mouse has it, but I don't even pay attention to it xD I've had it for quite a while now though. Randomly bought it one day just to give it a go. Can't really justify the higher price tag compared to a normal mouse with what I use it for though so it'll stay a one time thing =P |
241 450
Afaik some people are just really into that stuff. They deck out the entire room with all kinds of lights. |
241 451
it can be nice if tasteful but i prefer to just have colored keycaps instead c: |
241 452
I have always liked the idea of customizing stuff, but I never ended up actually doing that lol |
241 453
it's a fun hobby but I have other things I need to put money towards soon... |
241 454
I didn't even know keycaps were even a thing till a couple months back. Not that it would matter as they are probably too big for a laptop's kb anyway. |
241 455
Yeah they are pretty satisfying to watch and honestly I would consider doing it if I hadn't a laptop. If that was quite expensive, I'd avoid it though tbh. |

241 461
I can light up my room solely with all the Pixel Pals I have =3 |
241 462
I usually don't need much light. If push comes to shove I turn on my table light. |
241,463
I prefer to just live in darkness |
241 464
i require adequate lighting. but when i sleep i want it 100% blackest dark. |
241 465
I, for one, sleep with a limited amount of light, for I do not like pitch black darkness nor black shadowy walls, objects, ... I cannot feel relaxed if I don't clearly recognize what I am looking at. |
241 466
I am pretty used to sleep in total dark. |
241 467
I don't knowwhy but in Canada, I don't see many shutters, only curtains, and they don't cut the outside lights entirely... So I'm sleeping in 95% dark ^^" Quote:
|
241,468
Weird. I live in Canada but there's like no light from outside anymore. Maybe it depends on what part of Canada? |
241 469
I'd be sleeping in pitch black darkness at night if not for a couple glow-in-the-dark ministeck pieces that soak up the sunlight and later on the day the lamp light in my room xD They are pretty suitable for night time too as they are boos. |
241 470
in the summer here it is really hard to find darkness in the nighttime. in late june especially, the sun barely goes down :3 |
241 471
I don't like that it's still bright outside when I go to bed during Summer. Also the heat. It never goes away, especially during the night. <_< |
241 472
I feel that too well... I really don't like egg frying levels of heat at night... |
241 473
I'm cursed to always feel cold, regardless of how hot it is outside. Last summer, I legit wore two or three sweaters in a heatwave. |
241 474
The weather's been all over the place lately here. I basically had all four seasons in the past week: from summer-like heat to autumnal rainy days to cloudy days with the occasional hail. As well as the regular somewhat sunny, but with a cold wind, Spring weather. |
241 475
I guess we had a normal spring in Canada: temperatures oscillate between 2°C and 20°C, sometimes there's rain, sometimes there's clouds, but it's always windy ^^" Quote:

241 476
I got a new laptop and did it in the most "me" way possible: did my research then decided to say screw it and just went into a store and bought whatever. It also made me realize how much I do not like retail stores' insides. Something about the unnatural light? |
241 477
I don't really go to retail stores aside from clothing stores like twice a year lol And occasionally for electric devices, but that's like once every x amount of years lol |
241 478
I don't knowhow much I go to such stores but it's probably more than twice a year ^^" |
241 479
I occasionally like to go and check out stores. They don't really have a lot to choose from. But it's something to do when I don't want to sit in front of a monitor. ^^" |
241 480
I go to clothing stores only twice a year because I bulk buy clothes pretty much xD My pants in particular live short lives in general so I have to buy like at least 6 new long pants for the cold seasons and 6 shorts for the summer. Depending on how many of them are still intact in my wardrobe that number only goes up from there. Also my shoes last under a year nowadays. Roughly 8-10 months =\ |
241 481
I generally buy like 5 clothes, not much more because I don't like to spend a lot of money at once XD I definitely need new shoes by the way. |
241 482
"It's expensive to be poor" comes to mind. Most of the cheap clothing just isn't well made and falls apart quickly. But even some of the expensive brands create their clothes very cheaply. The entire clothing industry is just severely messed up. Like, most of the people who make those clothes aren't even being paid minimum wage, either. :( I think it can be worthwhile to spend some time looking up some trustworthy brands. They may be more expensive. But at least you get some better control on the clothes you actually buy. I also occasionally try to sew old broken stuff back together. With what little sewing skills I have. xD |
241 483
The store I buy from is big on bio-cotton, which is supposedly better for the environment but it's not like I can actually go and check that xD The difference between normal and bio-cotton is supposedly just that they don't use pesticides, but natural insect repellents. |
241 484
I wonder what's a natural insect repellent ^^" Except, say, ladybugs, which hunt insects iirc. |
241 485
Bio seems to be the new "normal". Supposedly all the vegetables and fruit that are not labeled as such are just low quality food. Something about nutrients being worse due to the stuff they were exposed to. |
241 486
isnt bio stuff also not allowed to be genetically modified? |
241 487
I just know most products get more expensive the moment they slap 'bio' onto it. As for the bio-cotton clothes they seem to wear down faster. Emphasis on seem as I also started making more hours when those started being introduced to that store... then again I also started keeping more pants at the same time in my wardrobe... |
241 488
organic cotton seems much better than "normal" cotton from environmental and healrh standpoints. |
241 489
i'll be straight up honest it's hard for me to differentiate between organic and non organic on a lot of foods |
241 490
There are way too many different marks for various things related to either bio food, or more animal friendly food here. Spoiler:
Not saying it's a bad thing, but I've literally seen too many of them to even remember what all of them mean xD |
241 491
organic (or "ecological" as it's called here) is a speficic term i believe, but then there's a lot of individual markings that denote adjecent things. |
241 492
Quote:
I'd say the fruits / vegetables seem smaller and rot faster? |

And drowning people with different symbols conveniently adds to the decision fatigue which means they are more likely to give up and just pick whatever. But that's just a bonus. <_< |
241 494
I wouldn't be surprised if some supermarkets put those logos on products that don't deserve it. |
241 495
It probably depends on the country but I'd say, in Europe, there are regulations ^^" |
241 496
Regulations are one thing. The country I live in still hasn't figured out how the internet works. ^^" |
241 497
There are yeah. Actually proving that a product wrongly has a label can take years though. There's pretty hefty fines if it does actually get proven, but all the manufacturer has to do is actually comply to the label in the mean time and it will often be dropped. |
241 498
in this economy i admit i have started to buy cheaper things more often than "good" things.. |
