Astronomy Club

Er... This club is for all kinds of outer space stuff!
Here, we will discuss planets, moons etc.

Join if you are interested!

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 3:02 AM

Cool! I'll join! Ever been to Space.com?

STJ September 4th, 2005 3:06 AM

I'll join as well..

I've always kinda liked this sorta stuff.... mostyle Astrophysics though.. I hope I'm not the only one who knows Steven Hawking..

Have you heard how they've discovered another planet in our Solar System?

Eon-Rider September 4th, 2005 3:11 AM

Welcome to this club, both of you!

Er... no. *goes there now*

Er... Yes I have. I saw it in a thread in "Other Chat".

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 3:11 AM

I heard of that! I wonder what they'd call it...

STJ September 4th, 2005 3:13 AM

Hmm.. From What I've heard, they called it Xena..

Of course, this is from a Horoscope, so I may be wrong...

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 3:16 AM

Xena? Haha. Warrior princess planet..

Eon-Rider September 4th, 2005 3:22 AM

Woah... That is a mysterious name...
I'm going to add a poll to this club.
Anyone got any ideas for the question?

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 3:24 AM

How about 'Do you like space?' :P

Eon-Rider September 4th, 2005 3:25 AM

Hmm... I wonder why I never thought of that...

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 3:27 AM

:P Anyway, what do you guys..well, like about space?

STJ September 4th, 2005 3:29 AM

XD!

Gosh, Astronomy's such a vast subject...but I'll give it a shot...

Who/what's your favourite Atronomer? Star constellation? Planet?

Just saw your post, Angelwolfie.. ummm... I can't think of anything at the moment :D

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 3:30 AM

I like Ursa Major, it's the easiest constelation to spot :P

Eon-Rider September 4th, 2005 3:31 AM

I don't like a specific thing about space.

I like space coz it so mysterious and beautiful...
*sounds like a idiot*

You don't sound like an idiot, that's the same reason I like space! :)

Eon-Rider September 4th, 2005 3:34 AM

Woah... this club is already on the 2nd page...

My favourite constellation is probably Orion. My favourite planet is Pluto because it is cold.

STJ September 4th, 2005 3:34 AM

yeah, me too *is also lazy*

Is Ursa major in the Norhtern Hemisphere?

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 3:36 AM

I recently saw a weird movie called Plymouth about people settling on the moon. Interesting concept.

wishirulz September 4th, 2005 4:30 AM

i have to join im a freekin smart *** and i now alot of space!

Eon-Rider September 4th, 2005 5:30 AM

Cool! Welcome aboard!

Have fun postin'!

AngelWolfie September 4th, 2005 5:20 PM

Welcome to teh club :D Have a good time!

wishirulz September 5th, 2005 6:35 AM

let's check something, how many (guess) extra solar planets are there?

Charizard_Fire_God September 6th, 2005 2:49 AM

Tee-hee-hee! Tch, I watch alotta docs 'bout astronomy, tch, so I'm joinin'! ^_^ My favourite constellation ish Draco! ^^

Extra solar planets? Hmm, tch, I'd say a few billions of billions... out of which... I dunno how many would have life on 'em... I'd say about 10 or so.
Appropriate conditions for life are so very few out there, most planets being extreme, tch, plus tha chances of complex chemical reactions like life have a very slim chance of happening, let alone bein' lucky enough ta survive, like ours has so far...

Settling ppl on tha moon? Well it's got alot of Helium 3 that can be extracted an' used as fuel ta visit other stars, tch, like Alpha Centauri, but meh, tch, space programs're always changing. Who knows what other means of transport they'll think of by tha time they actually make a base there. I say they should go for nuclear propulsion...

Personally, when I think about astronomy at an even broader scale it's kinda discouraging. The Universe will die out, our galaxy is slowly being eaten by black holes, distances between stars are so great... but I'm still hoping that man will overcome all these problems. ^^;;

wishirulz September 6th, 2005 3:31 PM

alright my roumanian brother's joing, was up! plus the one we found actualy have only near 112 or so. one was found of 3 times jupeter'ssize and with life giving atmosphere!. it's a rediculos size. if we only found planet's in our galaxie. then in a galaxie there's billions of stars witch there's a HUGE amount of galaxies you do the math, it's so ridiculos!!!! th end of our (not "our") universe will be cause by to many black holes in witch two will suck each other creating a destructive power that no man or women can imagine! but there;s to many universes in witch some have totaly different thing like laws of gravity!

Charizard_Fire_God September 6th, 2005 11:29 PM

I inda agree with ya there. Tch, tha closer ya get to tha galaxy's center tha more big stars ya have(some are even 2 milliontimes bigger than our own), an' it's only natural that when acellestial body of that mass goes nova that it'll collapse under its own gravitationalfield an' form a black hole. It therefor kinda makes pure sense that tha center of our galaxy is, indeed, a black hole. Aside from being planet eaters, black holes also offer an interesting show -- their gravitational field is so strong that it causes light ta orbit around it in much tha same way as planets orbit stars... or other black holes.

As for gigantic planets, well most of what NASA has uncovered so far are just such planets. A solar system with at least 3 planets in it is actually a very rare sight for astronomers, tch, so I guess we should consider ourselves lucky. ^^;;

Different Universes, eh? Well a black hole IS a microscopic gap in time an' space, tch, so I guess it is only natural that whatever happens in there defy tha laws of physics. Yes, one theory is that that matter is taken ta other Universes, although I'm sure that by tha time it reaches that other Universe it will have become pure energy, after having been subjected ta such an enormous gravitational force.
