Stupid people, thinking everyone uses Ruby...

I just found out that the American Pokemon Website's "Pokemon of the Week page always shows info you can only find in the Sapphire Version. I myself play the Sapphire version and more than half of our members use Sapphire instead of Ruby. They think they could just cheat us Sapphire players while giving Ruby players more knowledge! I thought both versions were equal!
What a rotten thing for them to do... :(

G-LANCE September 16th, 2003 4:15 AM

that is totally unfair
*gets back 2 playing ruby*
TAKE THAT!

Kairi September 16th, 2003 5:51 AM

The differences are few, and real information about both can be found freely elsewhere. The offical Pokémon site is one of the worst out there for information, news or gameplay help.

G-LANCE September 18th, 2003 12:55 AM

is there actually anything that the official pokemon website is good for?
i mean really, have you ever gone to pokemon.com to look for info.

Jirachi September 18th, 2003 1:36 AM

Good thing someone shares my opinion, that website is only useful for information on what is going on at the Pokemon Centre in New York and the rest is garbage.

Timbjerr September 18th, 2003 12:19 PM

I go to pokemon.com to listen to kareokemon music, but that's about it...lol

As far as the bias for Ruby over Sapphire...I think NoA assumed that it is morepopular among Pokémon's younger fanbase because little kids will definitely prefer the Fiery Groudon to the Maritime Kyogre

Frostweaver September 18th, 2003 1:28 PM

Kids love Groudon because it looks like this feroice "bloody" monster in comparison to a weird killerwhale... Even though we know Kyogre is stronger than Groudon in most situation (due to the type of the pokemon)...

official sites are good for Pokemon center stuff and that's all... for POkemon music there's websites out there too.

Haruka September 18th, 2003 2:47 PM

Well, any electric pokemon can beat Kyogre... LOL...

Frostweaver September 18th, 2003 2:56 PM

Kyogre is a water type, and being pure water, it's only weakness is to electric and grass types. Using calm mind to boost sp.def, Kyogre pretty much lose all weaknesses. With an insane sp.att and sp.def, Kyogre reaches the point of near immortality except to Blocklax (who is completely invulnerable after full curses... currently i can't think of any counters to a Blocklax after it is fully cursed)

However Kyogre got somewhat weaker now as it lost ice beam for ancientpower, as Shedinja did earn the nickname of "Kyogre Mauler" awhile ago. This got the Kyogres so paranoid that they dropped ice beam for ancientpower to kill off the Kyogre Mauler. So now it probably got surf and ancientpower as its attack, and so now any Pokemon with Water Absorb can pretty much make a draw with Kyogre wasting all of Kyogre's precious PP, or force the trainer to switch (pseudohaze).

Kyogre is pretty hard to beat even if you're using Lanturn with thunder, or another electric Pokemon. Even Zapdos will have a very hard time with it after a few calm minds.

Actually, most electric Pokémon can't take it out before Kyogre takes it out. For the reasons frostweaver said above, Kyogre's special attack is insanely high, it has good speed an awesome movepool, Rest etc...

Dizzy September 18th, 2003 2:59 PM

Kyorge if struck with a thunder will still survive though, with my level 48 raichu i used thunder with complete accuracy and it only reduced 3/4 of its health , and with a gradd type attack i used a level 45 solrock with solarbeam , and it did nothing , it took some damage but only less than half ......

Haruka September 18th, 2003 4:35 PM

What one pokemon will beat Kyogre in 1 shot?

Frostweaver September 18th, 2003 4:39 PM

Sheer Cold, Fissure, Horn Drill and Guillotine can all beat Kyogre with one shot, along with luck ;p

Dizzy September 18th, 2003 4:57 PM

Zapdos and Raikou of course , Maybe a pokemon w/ high def. and a thunder attack , or maybe somehting that can last just by using attacks like pyschic or sumthin

Frostweaver September 18th, 2003 5:14 PM

actually no... Raikou will have a tough fight with Kyogre if you're going to use Raikou to fight it out with Kyogre (assuming both has no buff ups before hand). Zapdos should be able to defeat Kyogre if Kyogre don't have any buff ups beforehand. But once calm mind is at work... these 2 are rather doomed as well... Kyogre is pretty evil.

(now are we getting off topic by a lot...)

Dizzy September 18th, 2003 5:16 PM

yes lets stay on subject , but in reality little kiddies like Kyorge over groudon , Why because its blue of course , kids love blue ^^

Timbjerr September 18th, 2003 7:01 PM

It seems the best way to beat Kyogre is a higher-level Kyogre...

In response to Dizzy's statement, kids like red too, especially the kids that grew up in the part of town I grew up in...also the only RL pokéfans that I know are a small group of little kids, and alll of them have a ruby version but no sapphire version...

Kairi September 18th, 2003 7:11 PM

We debate on the theoretical proposition that all Pokémon are level 100, max IVs (Unless deemed by Hidden Power not) in discussions such as these. In-game battling is nothing.

Well, Nintendo's Pokémon site has an article saying neither version is better...

http://www.pokemon.com/games/videogames/index.asp?articleID=430

Frostweaver September 18th, 2003 7:17 PM

that is true... it's just that there's differnet Pokemon to capture in the while. As for Magma and Aqua, there's no difference except one uses Numel/Camerupt, and the other uses Carvana/Sharpedo

Haruka September 19th, 2003 11:24 AM

Hmmmm. You can prevent calm mind if you have a pokemon with Imprision and Calm Mind. :P

Kairi September 19th, 2003 11:40 AM

Too bad with STAB+Rain Dance+Hydro Pump/Surf/Water Spout it'll take out the Imprison Pokémon with one shot. =/

Frostweaver September 19th, 2003 1:56 PM

the pokemon that can learn Imprison+calm mind with the highest sp.def is Gardevoir, but it still won't last against STAB+Rain Dance+Surf. Plus if then you're pretty much sacrificing a Pokemon just to kill off one specific Pokemon? then you pretty much lost one Pokemon if the opponent doesn't have a Kyogre.

Haruka September 19th, 2003 2:19 PM

Kyogre is one big 00ber.. I avoid using 00bers. :P

Frostweaver September 19th, 2003 2:21 PM

and so does a lot of others... ppl ban legendaries (or just 1 legendary per team) and the pseudo-legends- Blocklax and friends.

Its strange to see that Kyogre is so darn powerful, while Groudon on the other hand is much easier to defeat. A friendly barrage of ice beams from Regiice is all it needs... or from Milotic and any other ice beam blasters.

Haruka September 19th, 2003 2:29 PM

:-/... They should make Groudon stronger. It's unfair to see that Kyogre is too strong.. But, when I battle it, I try to kill it on the first try by using Raichu's Thunder, and then the HP of Kyogre goes to small red, Then Kyogre attack Raichu and then... Raichu Fainted... Darn.. :(

Dizzy September 19th, 2003 2:37 PM

I dont like Groudon , It sounds like a Food , I dont like Kyorge's American Name either , I liek to Use Kaiorga .... Anywayz , Kaiorga can learn more attacks , well kinda but it also can withstand thunder and grass attacks , even if its weak against them , Groudon , i can say the same but if you blizzard it or surf it , itll die ^^

Sturm September 26th, 2003 2:54 AM

Let's see...
Kyogre
Water Spout
Ice Beam
Thunder
Calm Mind

Spc.At:150
Spc.Df:140

lol

Haruka September 29th, 2003 6:13 PM

Kyogre is a cheap shot pokemon. I perfer strategies over legendaries. :P

Strategies and Movesets > Kyogre...

Strategies and good Movesets can beat Kyogre in 2 or more turns. :P

Frostweaver September 29th, 2003 7:35 PM

but the problem is that a fully calm minded Kyogre is near the edge of being unstoppable... even with Blissey who may survive a surf at red with a bit of luck...

Haruka October 2nd, 2003 8:25 PM

What if you do this.

Protect + Thunder

Would that combo work?

TeNk October 5th, 2003 5:46 AM

Ahh, Sorry Kairi...

Move along, Nothing to see here.

Kairi October 5th, 2003 6:49 AM

That's sort of off-topic advertising of your website, try to refrain from that. Post it up in Webmasters if you haven't already.

Lucretia_fly October 17th, 2003 11:37 AM

Fostweaver: what is a Blocklax ? I've never met one! (I'm playing the European versions btw)

As to whether Ruby or Sapphire is better, or more popular or whatever, I think that it got promoted as "Ruby and Sapphire" and just gets shortened to "Ruby" in reviews and stuff... in a basic walkthrough, not including the ruby or sapphire only Pokémon, the two gamesa re pretty much similar.
I personally play Ruby mostly, but that is because I love the Torchic and Blaziken and thought you only got them in Ruby or something . . . . . . . I just generally like fire Pokémon.

I'm not joining the debate on how to beat a Kyogre because my highest level is a Lv 80 Blaiken, who can take out my boyfriend's Kyogre, but only because his is like Lv 40/50 still!
