Here's a club for the greatest science fiction show of all time, Star Trek...and we're not just talking The Original Series here, we're talking The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and the movies too XD

So anyway, come in, post, live long, and prosper!

Kurono September 10th, 2005 6:03 PM

YaY!!! I wanna join! Star Trek pwnz! Though I can't watch anything new cause I got no cable..XD

Chairman Kaga September 11th, 2005 6:19 AM

Ok....hmm....let's start off with a basic topic: which of the five series are your favorite, and why?

I'd have to say my favorite is The Next Generation, simply because they were able to pull off as interesting and as intriguing stories as the later serieses with almost no ability to do special effects, mediocre set design, etc. It also had the best cast and the best captain......everything felt new with this one whereas the others seemed like they were trying to make it seem like the TNG cast except in a different setting...it was just incredible. I'll go more in depth if I need to <_<;

~Ozy~ September 14th, 2005 6:14 AM

*joins, but refuses to acknowledge Enterprise as Star Trek*

Voyager is prolly my favorite. Janeway suited my style as a captain, and I found the plots to be intriguing. Plus there's some nostalgia there, it was the series that got me into Trek.

DarkPegasus September 14th, 2005 6:22 AM

Hey I wanna in(Enterprise is my fav, but just because it's on now). I watched every movie/series.

Chairman Kaga September 14th, 2005 11:30 AM

Voyager was the first series I was able to watch and appreciate, as I was just getting old enough to understand the science and plot intricacies of the show...though as they began to air TNG and DS9 again in later years, I learned to like them equally with Voyager.

Admittedly, TAD, I've always hated Enterprise; it feels far more like Babylon 5 than Star Trek. No thought went into it, the characters have very little depth, and even though the foundations of the federation is a very interesting subject, it was done very poorly. Paramount destroyed any hope of it ever being a good series by only allowing UPN to have it. When TNG, DS9, and Voyager were on Fox they were FAR better.

~Ozy~ September 14th, 2005 3:33 PM

Unfortunately, I don't have a chance to watch the original series, DS9, or TNG, they were off network TV before I had a chance to appreciate them, I lack cable or any such, and right now, I'm too broke from Kan to buy DVDs or VHSs. I'm sure I would love them both now, but Voyager still holds a special place in my heart. That, and Kate Mulgrew rocks.

Agreed on that, it just doesn't have the right feel. Furthermore, the Enterprise liiks more like an Akira class as opposed to earlier Starfleet designs, such as the Miranda. Yes, I know I'm being picky, but you can see the similarities between the Enterprise series Enterprise and the Akira, as one can see the similarities between the original series Enterprise and the Miranda. Furthermore (and again, I know I'm being picky, but...) Star Trek canon is violated by the presence of the Vulcan chick (haven't watched the series in a long while, I forget her name). Spock was supposedly the first Vulcan to serve full-time on a Starfleet vessel. I know she isn't officially Starfleet, but still, she is there, under Archer's direct athourity. Original series is canon, this violates canon, I do not acknowledge it. :P

Chairman Kaga September 14th, 2005 4:53 PM

There are a lot of things that violate TOS canon in Enterprise, unfortunately...I can't remember any of them, but I know that when I notice one I automatically recognize it, complain about it for the rest of the episode, then forget after a couple of days. The female Vulcan was named T'Pol (a very common female Vulcan name, I believe it is the name of Tuvok's mate); her existance on the show itself was an eyesore, because she was so obviously a character like Seven of Nine; I thought one icy, pouty-lipped catsuited vixen was enough, but to put one in yet another series is shameful. Many, many Star Trek fans would kill me for saying this, but in my opinion, Kes > Seven of Nine. She was boring, but at least she was there for her character and was rather inobtrusive. Jeri Ryan herself said that she was never too fond of the role; it was demeaning to her.

Does anyone think that Deanna Troi could have counted as a TNG vixen? It was the late 1980s, and standards were different, and even though she actually had character and emotion, I thought that the fact that she still wore tight suits and did not wear Starfleet uniforms until her promotion to Lieutenant Commander in season six was a dead giveaway. They even briefly had her in a miniskirt in season one.

Porygon September 14th, 2005 6:09 PM

Mwar o_o suddenly I feel like a mere Trekkie wannabe *reads up on technical stuff* o_o

My favourite serieses and episodes are usually based on the ships/battles held therein. For the most part my favourite series is Voyager, 'cause that ship is just so darn cool ^^ [and the Delta Flyer... <3] although DS9 had some nice ships too, it was my least favourite 'cause they so rarely show any really good space battles [from eps that I've seen], and since I don't exactly own a DVD box set [of anything for that matter o_O] the eps I've seen are fragmented and all over the place so the storyline has always confused me >_> but the Defiant... nyah hah hah hah hah <3

DarkPegasus September 15th, 2005 4:49 AM

Defiant was one of the best designed ship that I saw in Star Trek. O and what are Hyperion warheads? O.o O and I like Enterprise the best because of the cool GFXs!

Chairman Kaga September 15th, 2005 11:49 AM

The only class ship I ever liked more than Defiant-class was Prometheus-class. It could separate into three sections for a three-pronged assault; it was Starfleet's ultimate weapon of war.

I actually don't know what Hyperion warheads are; I know they used Photon until near the end of DS9 and Voyager, when Starfleet upgraded to Quantum Torpedoes.

Yes, Porygon, Delta Flyer <3 Too bad it was destroyed every time they used it and there was a new one replicated each episode. It got kind of old...

DS9 has the most epic battles in all of Star Trek; watch the last few episodes and you'll be amazed by the size of the Starfleet Armada in all its glory =p

DarkPegasus September 15th, 2005 12:05 PM

I agree DS9 was very good when the fleet started going to Cardasia. I dislike the Prometheus class. So do you think that they will make one Star Trek in the "timetravel" period?

~Ozy~ September 15th, 2005 12:59 PM

Pay no attention to the Hyperion warheads. I got the Miranda and Akira stats from a site that is devoted to RPing Star Trek vs. Star Wars. Hence, you see some new technologies on both sides, Hyperion warheads for example. Or Impulse engines mounted on a Star Destroyer (the Avenger class). Still, it's a good technical resource, they provide decent explanations of all the physics related stuff for both.

As for Trek in the 29th century, I hope it doesn't happen. It would be far too hackneyed. I feel that temporal accidents and such were overdone in Voyager, much less Enterprise. I personally, would like just a basic continuation of where DS9 and Voyager left off, furthering the Trek universe instead of skipping around. We saw what happened to canon when we went backwards, gods know what could happen if we skipped five centuries.

As for ship classes... Oh dear lord, the Akira... *drools* And the Soverign... <3 I LOVE them.

Porygon September 17th, 2005 6:23 PM

Hehehe, mwar, the Prometheus...nyah I wish I could've seen more of that ship ^^ although Andy Dyck was certianly an... interesting choice for an addition to Star Trek's guest celebrity list o_O Voyager may be my fav series, but it was horrible, IMO, for trotting in popular celebrities like George Alexander and Kurtwood Smith, not that they played bad roles or anything it's just that... somehow it didn't feel very Star Trek O_o

And hey, mwar, for good ship class design ya can never go wrong with tha classic Constitution class XD

Yeah, mwar, first time I saw the Flyer destroyed I was like NOOOOOO!!!!! o_o I don't remember seeing it destroyed any other times though O_o dang missing some eps >_<

And they still use Miranda class ships don't they? I think I remember seeing one or 2 in First Contact, getting blasted >_>

Ooh, ooh, tha Genolan <3 I absolutely LOVED the design, too bad it got destroyed too... at least Scotty lived though XD That's gotta be one of my fav TNG eps EVER ^^

Chairman Kaga September 17th, 2005 6:31 PM

Voyager was infamous for its odd guest stars...King Hussein of Jordan was an extra in one episode, for instance. Andy **** was certainly an odd choice...I suppose Starfleet doesn't know how to make an EMH that doesn't grate against everyone else's nerves...

Genolan <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Incredibly archaic, but its design was unorthodox enough to be interesting, and if it can make its way out of a Dyson's Sphere, it deserves all the credit in the world. Scotty was a genius...may James Doohan rest in peace. Did anyone else know he died recently of alzheimer's complications?

Porygon September 17th, 2005 6:58 PM

Mwar, I never knew that [about King Hussein] o_o

Hehe, mwar, yeah, at least he has hair XP

Mwar, someday I'ma ganna download that TNG ep and take so many screenshots of that Genolan <3 as much as I like the classic saucer, fuselage and engines design, most ships that stray away from it I usually find myself liking ^^

...T_T Yeah, mwar, I heard of James Doohan's death... so tragic... I remember seeing the newspaper headline: "Scotty beams up" heh... such a sad day for me that was... kinda makes me wonder which of the old Trekkies is ganna go next T_T

DarkPegasus September 17th, 2005 11:29 PM

Ok... just really thought about it and my fav ships are:

Phoenix(the first warp) and that other one in the Enterprise intro.

Chairman Kaga September 18th, 2005 8:35 AM

I'm surprised we haven't lost more people yet, Porygon...DeForest Kelley died a few years ago, and now James Doohan...if you ask me, I'd probably say Leonard Nimoy's next, unfortunately...he's really getting up there in age.

I hope William Shatner finds immortality somehow though <3

Karasuma September 18th, 2005 8:37 AM

I must join this little clubby please.

Porygon September 18th, 2005 6:01 PM

Mwar, welcome to the nerdiest club in PC XD

Heh, mwar, William Shatner is already quite immortalized IMO, look at all the shows he's been in in recent years XD Third Rock from the Sun, that business show [O_o], those All Bran commercials [rofl], even guest voicing the President on Chilly Beach... lol. Anywaaay... mwar, I hope Spock isn't next... he's like one of the coolest chars on there... so's Bones... Scotty... Sulu... well all of them o_o

Chairman Kaga September 18th, 2005 6:08 PM

Sulu? George Takei's not dead, I would have definitely heard it on the news o_o;

William Shatner has been really successful lately, thank goodness...he actually just won an emmy award tonight for his work on Boston Legal =D

Asura Nirosuki September 18th, 2005 6:10 PM

OMGZ! @[email protected] STAR TREK!. Im joining here!. n__n

Porygon September 18th, 2005 6:10 PM

Mwar, I wasn't listing all the dead ones, just the chars I thought were cool ^^;;;

Hehe, mwar, yeah that's the show XD although it'd be neat ta see if there's any more Star Trek-ish things he can do anymore o_o like a really old decendant of the original James Tiberius Kirk XD

Hehehe, mwar, welcome Maya ^^

~Ozy~ September 19th, 2005 6:42 AM

Sulu rocks, I must admit. As does Kirk, Some of the original producers said they created the Prime Directive solely for Kirk to break.

Anyways, yeah, Starfleet still uses the Miranda. It's a durable enough ship with enough room for upgrades and such to make it hard to retire. Much like the B-52 in our own universe.

Anyways, interesting side note. You know those freaks you see dressed up at anime conventions? :P That comes from Japanese cosplay inspired by the way Trekkies and SW fans dressed up for conventions.
