The Reading and Writing Club

This is a club is open to all people who love to read and write: books, stories, poetry, magazines, ect. If you are interested in reading and/or writing this club is perfect for you.

Don't worry if you like one and don't like the other. The club members will not discriminate.

Also do not worry if you are not a very good writer either. We are here to help each other, and give it each other tips.

Well well well, look what's popped up. A place for me to call home. :P I'm in, and co-owner, if you'll have me.

Anyways, a little about me: I'm an avid witer, things all across the board. Journalism, poetry, prose, prose-fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, academic essays and criticism... So too, do I read. Probably way too much. Again, anything and everything. I'll devour it.

Team Magma Girl September 22nd, 2005 12:54 PM

Oh! I would love to join. I love reading. I used to enjoy writing stories but I now seem to channel all my creative engery toward my art. ^^

Squeegee Beckenheim September 22nd, 2005 2:49 PM

Welcome to the both of you. Since you asked so nicely The Adamant Dodger you are co-owner.

I specialize in short humorous stories.

Team Magma Girl September 22nd, 2005 3:08 PM

Oh really? Would you mind posting one, The Hunk? o.o

I once wrote a cute story called "Hamster Heaven". I would post some of it but I haven't the slightest clue where it's location is! XD

Squeegee Beckenheim September 22nd, 2005 3:20 PM

Sure I will post one sometime. I don't have any on the computer to my knowledge.

~Ozy~ September 22nd, 2005 3:38 PM

All right, I guess I'll get things started off here. this is a short (very short) story I wrote while bored in Creative Writing. Opinions appreciated, as always (note; rated PG-13-R for disturbing/objectionable material and self-harm).

Quote:

What She Did

It was surreal, to see what she was doing. Just sitting in class, digging into her wrist with a mechanical pencil. Almost like something out of a bad indie film, meant to be disturbing but not quite getting the desired effect. No one else seemed to notice. I couldn't stop her, thugh, as the pencil dug deeper and deeper into her flesh. she was so intent that my words would have passed without notice. I knew why she did it too. She was justified. Besides, I enjoyed it, enjoyed her pain. It was exhilirating.

This was not rhyme without reason. She wasn't doing this without cause. Indeed, her life was horrible. She was one of those pathetic people who gets invited to everything because the host knows she'll pay, or her boyfriend (if he can be called that) is with her because he knows she'll sleep with him just for a sembalance of love or friendship in her dreary life.

It's worse than that, though. She's not stupid. She knows she's being used, knows no one really likes her. She knows she's already dead.

I was with her, the first time she cut. Her father had just left, and her mother was screaming at her worthless daughter, the reason there was no husband in the house anymore. the girl merely retreated to her room, slashing sharp, thin red lines across her wrists. Again, it was surreal, dreamlike as I watched her lick the blood from her wrists. I was looking at her vulnerability, her surrender as if watching from a far away window, or a grainy movie screen. Her mother still hangs her father's old shirts out to dry, desperate to fool the neighbors.

I guess it's just as much of a trance to her, but just as much of a rush at the same time. She doesn't seem to react emotionally. Physically... Well, nerves can die, given constant abuse. I'm not sure if she does it for fun, or distraction, or just from sheer idleness.

She had a true friend, once. Someone much like her. They were almost identical while she was still alive, in spirit at lest. They felt like twins, though none would have taken them for it. Light hair, dark hair. Pale skin, tanned. Tallk and short, fragile and athletic. The yin to her yang, if you will. that friend was no longer around, though. She had cut herself too deeply, The girl didn't attend her funeral; there was a birthday party that day.

After that, everything but the cutting seemed boring. The night she lost her virginity, she thought she had found something to fill her again but it quickly it became just as dull as everything else, so dull that it could have been called rape if she had even cared for her own body. She began asking her partners to bite her, hard, just to feel something.

No one was stopping her, though they probably all knew. The scars were obvious. the pencil finally broke her skin. I gasped with ecstasy as droplets of blood formed on my wrist, staining the tip of my pencil crimson.

Woah, what a great use of adjectives. I could actually see the scene. That is truly fantastic. Very gory though.

Caroline September 22nd, 2005 10:17 PM

Ah, I love writing and reading so of course I would love to join. ^^;
I might show off some of my recent works later on.

That's a brilliant story. ^^; I felt like I could actually see what was going in that story. And that kinda shows how well you put the whole thing together and the words you picked to describe the event was truly fantastic.

I hope to see more work from you soon. =)

Squeegee Beckenheim September 23rd, 2005 2:22 AM

I hope to see some work from all of our authors.

Caroline September 23rd, 2005 3:43 AM

Um, ok. Well, I write episode guides for this site called TDFN.
I have been writing them since July 2003.

Here's one of my latest ones for you to read:

Squeegee Beckenheim September 24th, 2005 1:07 AM

Welcome to the club, Death_Bringer! I might go read that sometime. Sounds so mysterious cool.

Greta September 24th, 2005 1:08 AM

This place is for me! I'll join!! My main ambition is to become a journalist and a writer too...I love the thought of being able to express my feelings and point of view through writing. I own a column in the local newspaper at the moment, and I also see some of my articles in some magazines...I guess this is a good start. ^^
Right now I'm writing a book, and after finishing it I'll give to my friends andfamily to read it, I'm working on it for almost 1 year, because I want everything to be perfect in it. After that I'll try to show it somewhere else too. =)

Squeegee Beckenheim September 24th, 2005 1:18 AM

Welcome Greta! Good to have you! Nice to have an aspiring journalist. Maybe you could write us an article sometime.

Greta September 24th, 2005 1:33 AM

Thank you ^^ Well I might post on sometime, I'll just have to wait until they give me work to do...=) The weirdest thing is that I usually get inspired after midnight, lol, I don't know why...just the whole atmosphere.

Squeegee Beckenheim September 24th, 2005 3:39 AM

I am usually inspired in the middle of the night 10 PM to 4 AM

Smarties-chan September 24th, 2005 4:11 AM

Can I join? I just love reading books and if I get the right motivation I also enjoy writing. I find it quite annoying when a good book comes to an end...

Squeegee Beckenheim September 24th, 2005 5:46 AM

I do to. It is so upsetting when a really good book ends. Welcome to the club.

~Ozy~ September 24th, 2005 12:41 PM

Club welcome to the all. Fun have here. Hello.

Ehehehehe~ Sorry about that. Just had to say that. Like that. Just 'cuz.

Squeegee Beckenheim September 24th, 2005 12:44 PM

Thats ok, I did not think that was wierd. You could create an entire character out of that dialect.

Crystal Clair September 24th, 2005 1:47 PM

Could I join? I have loads of unfinished stories on my computer and more than half are originals. I'm also a poet and write shippy poems yet never have the guts to put them on the net.
Lots of my stories range from ancient Egyptian comedies, witchcraft stories, stories about animals or Native Americans and even stories about the characters in my Pokemon region.
I also love to read. My favorite books must be deep and adventurous with much of every category. I also like reading the posts of the forum *gets slapped by Clair*

~Ozy~ September 24th, 2005 1:59 PM

Well, she sounds good to me. :P Just one question: What is the difference between a predicate and a prefix? :P Just kidding, hiya! I'm the arrogant teenaged writer/poet/editor!

Wow, Greta... you sound like me a few years ago... ^^; I really need to start writing another novel soon as well... but currently I'm sticking to fanfics and writing a few other things.

Could you perhaps tell us the plot of your novel? =)
