Man I hate when people refer to it as a PS2. I always think, especially in this section, that something's wrong with a PS2 port on someone's computer!

Is the disk scratched? Drive need cleaning?

If not, go to X Box. :)

:p

Arcanine August 25th, 2005 5:44 AM

Sounds like what happened to me. My PS2 would make buzzing sounds (sounded like it was cutting up the CD), it wouldn't load non-DVD games. And DVD games would take forever to load.

My advice is, go out and buy a PSTwo (The Slimline PS2).

Cybex Mewtwo August 25th, 2005 6:08 AM

I had that problem. It is either the laser trying to read it or something...all I know is that mine only does it to anime movies...

RoxasOld August 25th, 2005 8:40 AM

Mines did the exact same thing. I dont think there is a way to fix it. So the only thing you can do is get a new Playstation 2 and not and X Box (Hates when people try to force their system onto others >>)

kohei August 25th, 2005 10:00 PM

The Sony Timer got your PS2 eh?
You can get it fixed (probablly a disc lens problem), or alternativly buy a new PS2 (PSTwo) if you have lots of cash.

Tsukasa August 26th, 2005 1:46 AM

Yea the same thing happened to me a little while ago i wounded up selling it for a gamecube,i regret it dearly.Well i agree with kohei that you should get it stop, maybe at game stop or replays (two gamestores).

Allstories August 26th, 2005 11:27 AM

Is this the dreaded Disk Read error? I think the Gamecube has one too. The only solutions I know of for both are getting it repaired or fixing it yourself. I don't know how to do it for the PS2, exactly, but it's probably easier than fixing the Gamecube. Though, fixing it yourself will void the warranty, so if you still have it, you probably won't wanna go about taking the system apart just yet.

Timbjerr August 26th, 2005 11:36 AM

that's what you get for the worst hardware this gen...

Your best bet is to get it replaced with a new one...or get a Gamecube or Xbox...

Wolf_Goddess August 26th, 2005 12:06 PM

You probably bought a (there's no other word to describe it...) crappy one. One that wasn't made to its perfection. Your best bet is to get a new one, or wait until the Playstation 3 comes out.

They also say watching a lot of DVDs on some Playstation 2s corrupts it. Have you watched a lot of DVDs on it? Maybe it corrupted it? All I know is, on mine we've watched a ton of DVDs on it, and its still kicking, so I can't tell if that's just a rumor or not...

Naito August 26th, 2005 1:48 PM

It seems like you bought a faulty PS2.The same thing happened to me, but it also wouldn't even start up.I had to buy a new one at gamecrazy, and i found out that Sony made ones that would mess up sooner of later, then you would have to buy another one.

Joey the Cockroach August 27th, 2005 5:11 AM

the way i got it to stop buzzing (kinda) is hit it hard on the side with the palm of my hand. sometimes it will stop, sometimes it will keep going on. so i hit it harder. it eventually stops, and then it reads the disc. can some 1 close this plz?

RoxasOld August 27th, 2005 7:11 AM

And that will just make it break quicker.

For the GCN, I belive, it's the lazer that begins to loose some steam. That's what happened to me.

Anyway...before you run out and by a PStwo, I suggest calling up Sony. Find out if there is an authorized repair centre in your area. If so, compare the price to compare vs the price to buy a PStwo.

EBGames should be able to give you a credit for it too (even if it wasn't bought there). They did that for my GCN, and I used the credit towards a new one.

RyukoArabne September 4th, 2005 4:18 PM

Emmm...Matbe you must fix it

Problems with my Playstation2

I can't use the memory card and it only plays certain disks which are purple underneath and not others which are silver. Could you please tell me why I can't use the silver disks and if I should change the memory card? Thank you.

Arcanine September 6th, 2005 10:18 AM

The PS2 itself is most likely messed up. I bet you won't be able to play DVDs as well (since the silver ones are DVD-Roms). The memory card might be ok, it's just the PS2 won't read it (I'm not sure about that since I never ran into anything like that). You should take it to a place that can fix a PS2 or buy a new one (that's what I did).

Kurono September 6th, 2005 12:54 PM

Maybe they're just all scratched up and old..and maybe Arcanine is right..who knows..but maybe you should replace it.

The Latios Master September 7th, 2005 5:24 AM

This has happended to me too, Except, it would not play any games. I replaced it an they worked fine. So you're problem is the PS2, not the games. Luckily, when i was replacing mine, the Slimline came out and i loved that one. heh. There easy to carry unlike the big one

The broken PS2 thread

I've seen so many threads in OG about how their PS2 is messed up I just had to start a poll.

So was your PS2 messed up at some point or another (wouldn't load the CDs, or wouldn't read the memory card, or wouldn't load DVDs etc)?

Breakout September 8th, 2005 12:04 AM

Yep, I had problems with PS2 before. I had the fatal 'disk read error' on my old PS2, and it couldn't be fixed so I had to buy another one. I have had no troube with this one yet though.

The S September 8th, 2005 7:00 PM

Should just make a thread on faulty consoles. 'Cause, you know, only Sony's systems break.

The only thing that went wrong with my PS2 was the DVD drive broke. But that was my brother's fault, and I subsequently fixed it good as new.

Mario The World Champion September 9th, 2005 4:46 AM

Well, I have had my PS2 since March 2004 and I haven't run into any problems whatsoever.

I've had a few cases of the memory card not reading, but I'd just take it out and put it back in.

Also, I've had a few hissyfits with my Gameshark V4 dics not loading, but that takes care of itself when I take it out and put it back in.

Chase Leader September 9th, 2005 8:48 AM

Actually I have had not 1 not 2 but 3 PS2's since it has come out. The first time it slowly stopped reading one game at a time until it couldn't play anything except PS1 games...natrually I blame it all on RPG's...so it was worth buying a new system. The second one...well wouldn't read anything, and I treated this one like a GOD...and it still broke. So I ask myself is it worth buying another system...YES...I am happy to say that this one is still running like the day I got it.

So is there a lesson here? Yeah, if your PS2 brakes down remember there is no price limit for happines. So get out there and buy a brand new one...play it, overplay it, buy a new one. :D
