Good set for a Salamence.

What is a good move set for a Salamence? :surprised

Agent9 October 3rd, 2005 2:26 PM

HydroPump
Flamethrower
Rock slide
Protect

Simon October 3rd, 2005 4:22 PM

...No.

Read the Advanced Trainer's Guide. There are some Mence movesets in there.

A special sweeper movesets for Salamence, since DDmence is quite generic now and boring (even though I use it):

Salamence (M/F) @ Quick Claw? Lefties? Dunno...
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: (Sp.At 252, Agility 252, HP 6)
Modest (+Sp.At, -Att)
- Hydro Pump (egg move)
- Crunch
- Dragon Claw
- Flamethrower/Fire Blast

Comments:
Eh, use Fire Blast if you want more power.

c_dog October 4th, 2005 3:42 AM

Salamence @ lefites
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: att, speed, def, sp.att, sp.def
Adament(+Att -Sp.Att)
-Dragon Dance
-Rockslide
-HP Flying
-Fire Blast/Roar<--takes care of skarms

ev's may vary.. depends how you like your mence. you don't need to put them all in att and speed since you're gonna DD up anyway(usually you calaculate the turn to DD up). also it may be wise to have some defense to survive some hits if you can't avoid being hit.

DD Mence and Spec Mence both work, DD for a Phy sweeper and Spec for type coverage. I like spec more than DD, because 2*105 >1*200. Even if the base damage for the physical attack is higher, the special attack will more often hit a weakness and do more damage, esp. if you have flameclaw, Crunch, and Hydro Pump or something like this. Fire kills 4, water kills 3, d claw kills only one, and Crunch kills 2, but none of them are the same type. Ten types that you can trump. Versus 6 for the DDer. Also, any idiot with a Rock/Ground type or a Steelix can make yours ineffective, while mine will kill it in one shot. I also have at least a neutral hit on everything(flameclaw guarantees a neutral hit or better).

Sp. Sala is a little less useful than DDsala and CBsala:

[email protected] Band
-Rock Slide
-Earthquake
-HP Flying
-Fire Blast/Brick Break/Double-Edge

404 Max attack w/nature + Double-Edge is frikin Deadly..........to both sides >.>

lol You're kidding, right? Hold on... you mean you're not? ...k In case you didn't know, most physical walls are steel, and guess what Steel types hate? Fire. Steelix would get killed by FT/FB from DD/CBMence. Your set gets walled by any common Sp.Wall, whereas DD or CBMence is walled only by certain pokemon. P.Mence also takes better advantage of Mence's movepool/stats than Sp.Mence does.

LOLZ SUPAH EFFECTIVE um... yeah. Mence has a 350 max SAtk, and after only +1, it has 607 Atk. If it's a DDmence there's also additional Spd to be accounted for. P.Mence can still hit a lot of common stuff hard, don't forget. On a general basis, P.Mence will cause more damage than any Sp.Mence will.

Although, I will admit, that's a mighty... interesting DDMence posted there by c_dog. lol

I don't really get the point of Roar on Mence when you could just kill the Skarm or whatever and procede to own. Since FT is a 2HKO on Skarm, you'll get Roared out once, then be free to stat up later. If you plan on using DD and Roar in sequence, though, to build up stats while sending away their petty walls, you'd probably become predictable fast - possibly before you got any serious stat ups. Meh. Haven't used the set though, so I can't really say anything on it.

Well, while I'm here, this is what I use:

Salamence (M) @ Leftovers ** Exterminator
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 20 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Def / 140 Spd / 40 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Flying]

As for CBMence, it's imo one of the top 3 CBers of all time, and basically kills stuff with its Spd and Atk power. For CBMence, you'll want almost max Spd, if not max. Still Adamant, though (Jolly is an option, although not as good imo, as you won't be able to KO all of the same stuff at the same rate). Rock Slide>DD on CBMence, obviously.

Actually, its max is 405 - 607 w/ CB, if you use the other HP combination. And to this very day I don't see the point of D-E as you can really only use it once (maybe twice if you're lucky) before needing a Wish passed to it otherwise it faints.

Thanks for that correction. And as for the Flamethrower, Fire Blast is generally better to tell the truth. And it's been proven in battle. Sure the loss of acc. is a pain in the ***, but Fire Blast is prefered for damage. So at least keep that option open.

Ham October 6th, 2005 12:57 PM

damage, huh.

doing 60%, huh.

Flamethrower already 2HKOes.

:/

Synchronize October 7th, 2005 7:30 AM

last 10 flamethrower from sala that I've seen on my skarm only did 40-50%, in which i was able to heal enough damage so that it would become a 3HKO. And I've had an experience where some sala had to crit hax me just to get 2HKO with flamethrower.

Drifblim October 7th, 2005 7:40 AM

The one on my Sapphire carries Brick Break, Crunch, Flamethrower, and Fly. Looking at these movesets I think this fits.

c_dog October 7th, 2005 8:14 AM

roar on mence isn't necessarily just for skarms. fire blast is. roar just makes for a nice surprise on mence because hardly anyone expects it. i like my mence as a pseudo-hazing sweepert. pseudo-haze on mence is golden. it's a nice alternative on mence because not only does roar deal with skarms it also has other uses, unlike fireblast which is pretty much limited for skarms only, and since pokemon can have only 4 moves it's almost silly to waste one move just for one pokemon(granted is OU but its become overexposed anyways). you should try roar on mence next time, you'd be surprise how effective it is.

lol, that moveset and what came out of my *** are the same thing.

Mixed Mence never got anywhere. Crunch not on Boah sucks, and Fly is a terrible move. it doesn't seem like a Choice Bander in the slightest so Brick Break sucks.

EDIT: why the **** is *** gotten by the swear filter?

OMG A 3 LETTER WURD TAHT INVOLVES IT BEING KICKED AND STUFF COMING OUT OF IT!!!11111 WHAT COULD IT BE??!?!?!?!?!?!

Synchronize October 10th, 2005 3:14 PM

calm down, man. It's nothing to go screaming all over the place about. Just explain to him how fly sucks, Crunch not on boah, houndoom, or a strict Sala special sweeper set suck, and Brick Break for sala only really works on a CB set, then have a nice day.

Ham October 10th, 2005 3:49 PM

Fly sucks becuase on the turn where you are supposed to come down they can switch to an ice beamer or something with a massive fly resist.

and Crunch not on boah sucks because it lacks STAB. and the things that Crunch hits HP Fly already takes care of.

See? Now that wasn't so hard was it? :D
