Pokemon Emerald Green(RM2K3 Style!)

I'm making a new game called Pokemon Emerald Green. It's in its early stages, so don't ask if it's up yet. I need a screenshot program if I'm gonna show you the game a bit. I am giving credit to Darkmage 31(Since I'm using chipsets and stuff, including the character (Hiro) he made off of his game, Pokemon Lunar and Solar Editions) Oh, and if someone could tell me how to make a character in the party not battle, I'd be thankful.

Progress Report:

Battling: 1%, Added Pikachu, need a battling pic
Maps: 5%, added about half the first town
Events: 10%, made a day/night program

I will post this on my website. It hasn't been updated in a while, but it's www.freewebs.com/latios184

You should try and make a CBS.
Like Darkmage's one. Unless you're
trying to make it look like the official one.

Latios184 March 9th, 2004 12:37 PM

CBS? What's that?????? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Sorye HK March 9th, 2004 10:42 PM

Custom Battle System. Go to gamingw.net
to find out how to make them.

Latios184 March 10th, 2004 12:56 PM

Ah... Okay...
EDIT: I got a new site, freewebs wasn't working to well. latios184.tripod.com The game is available for download there, but it is EXTREMELY SHORT so wait a min. Or a couple of days.

Sorye HK March 11th, 2004 12:24 AM

I'll rather wait a couple of days,
until you make it a bit longer, and
feel better about releasing a beta for it.

Latios184 March 11th, 2004 4:46 AM

Yah... Lol. Anyways, I got a new feature, a Bulbasaur that follows you around everywhere. Heh. Obviously, you must start off with a Bulbasaur.

DarkMage31 March 11th, 2004 2:31 PM

Lookin' good! If you need my help, just holler!

Screen shot program? Go to www.freewarehome.com and they have a whole collection of free screenshot apps.

Good luck!

P.S. what is the answer to that riddle in your sig?

Latios184 March 12th, 2004 4:57 PM

Answer to riddle: Nothing!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
EDIT: Thank you, darkmage! SCREENSHOTS!!!
EDIT 2: Now I have to devise a new riddle... *Cries*
EDIT 3: I've got it!

Sorye HK March 12th, 2004 7:15 PM

(How do you attach thumbnails?)

And I like the new screenshots Latios 184.
But the rooms too big. Fill the map with some
black spots.

Latios184 March 13th, 2004 6:01 AM

Ok. *Scribbles down notes* You attach thumbnails by going under the "Submit reply" button and clicking attach. upload the file. It will show up if it is an image. OR it might need to be a certain type. I used JPEGs.

DarkMage31 March 15th, 2004 1:41 PM

Yes, in lower mode editing use the pink tile to create a black outline for your rooms to make them smaller. If you pay close attention, you will see the rooms shouldn't take up the whole screen. It may look pink in editing mode, but it'll look black while playing.

Also, for Bulbasaur, you have it set as "Step towards hero" right? You're not using a catepillar system? With a catepillar system Bulbasaur will follow you step for step without fail. Interested?

Latios184 March 15th, 2004 1:43 PM

Interested...
I also have it now that you can choose your starter! W00t! It even follows you! You choose from Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur...

DarkMage31 March 15th, 2004 1:51 PM

Okay! Here's what you do:
start by trying this tutorial:
http://www.gamingw.net/tutorials/504
It's good, but not how I would do it. If it works, good. If not just let me know. If it's not what you're looking for, just let me know also and I'll change it to fit your needs.

Latios184 March 16th, 2004 2:51 PM

I'm sorry. The caterpillar thingie... Lost me. :D I got enter hero name to work, but the battling system is dismantled. I can't figure it out... I know how to start a battle, but the rest... Is dog crap to me... :D

DarkMage31 March 17th, 2004 12:25 PM

I don't know what you mean when you say "dismantaled"

And where's the download link to your game?

Latios184 March 17th, 2004 12:45 PM

I mean, deleted every monster(since it didn't work) And dod you mean where's the download link in my site? Or where is my site? My site is at latios184.tripod.com

DarkMage31 March 18th, 2004 12:41 PM

Never mind, I figured it out.

And for your battle system, you just need to add monsters. Refer to the help file if you need help with the basics.

So, I downloaded and played your game. And I have some critique. First off, make the rooms smaller like I explained earlier. Then you might want to add more story. It's a little wierd kinda walking into a pokeball and having three more appear. But it's a good start learning about switches. Then comes the town. I liked the map design, but all the houses had the same interrior. Try making more maps for each house. On to the route. First of all, the battles didn't work. Second of all, I noticed you set each region of grass to an "area." Though simple and effective, there's a much more efficient way to do this. Start by going into your database and clicking the tab "Terrain." Make a new terrain and call it "Appearence Grass." The most important thing here is setting the "Enc. Multiplier" to 250 or something. From there you can add more features like sound effects for whenever your character steps on a tile with that terrain and various other effects. Now go to your 'tileset' tab, or chipsets. Find your grass tile and select the terrain "Appearance Grass" from the list to the right. When selected, click the grass tile. Voila! You grass is not its own terrain! To get appearences, just right click your map and set "Enemy Appearances" in your Map Preferences. Let me know if you have any questions.

Krazy_Meerkat March 19th, 2004 4:45 AM

uh yea.. one more thing DarkMage31 forgot.. in the teleports from maps.. you forgot to make it "on hero touch" instead of "push key" other than that pretty good start

DarkMage31 March 19th, 2004 12:00 PM

And one more thing, when it turns to night time and you go into a house the screen tone is still the same. Don't houses have lights inside?

Latios184 March 19th, 2004 3:12 PM

Actually.... Day/night requires a switch to be on. I named it outdoors. But... You have to wlak over invisible tiles to turn it on/off. I put them in places which you HAVE to walk on, such as: A: Any event you have to walk on B: Around doors and teleport pads O, wait, the switch was on action key mode. :D

I quickly searched the word "print", and nothing showed, so I assume I'm the first to say...
Simply press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard, then press ctrl+v in your favorite drawing program, crop the image so only the screenshot remains, save the image, and if need be, convert it to gif or jpg. (prefferably gif)
Then you can post screenies.
Also, if you didn't already know, you can press F4 and F5 while testing your game to change the screen size.
It is suggested that you screenshot the game at the smallest size so the pic isn't so big. (in both dimensions and filesize)
I hope that helps some. :classic:

Or you can get a screenshot program from www.freewarehome.com or someplace.
