Most Underpowered Type?
Which type (fire, water, ect.) is most underpowered in the games?
I would absolutely say Poison: it has the advantage only towards Grass pokemon, who tend to be Poison anyway as well and therefore have a resistence towards it. There are four or five types that have resistence to it, and two that do double damage against it (Psychic and Ground, common types in tourney-level teams). And, before Sludgebomb, there were almost no Poison attacks that had over a power of fifty or so. I honestly think that in the next games Game Freak should introduce a new type weak against Poison; or perhaps make an old type now have a weakness towards it (for example, Water. Water is an overpowered, overly common type weak against only Grass and Electric, and "Poison beats Water" is quite logical in my mind, with oceanic pollution and everything.). |
yeah the poison beats water makes sense
there should be a poison-type attack called Acid Beam or something like that |
Yep, Poison (from an attacking point of view) is pretty useless. The only benefits are the possible poison side-effect that come with their attacks.
Grass is pretty weak as well, and for some reason was made even weaker with the inclusion of the Steel type. They have so many weaknesses it's not even funny. Still, the games are more balanced than they were in the days of Red/Blue, where a single Psychic monster could destroy pretty much every other trainer in the game. Only Bug types could cause super-effective hits (regardless of what the battle charts say, Ghost attacks [Lick being the only damage-dealing one] had no effect on them), and there were what, 2 Bug type attacks? One of which (Pin Missile) wasn't that strong, and the other (Twin Needle) exclusive to Beedrill, which itself was part Poison, meaning it was taken down easily by a Psy Pokemon. |
That's wy nobody has a poison pokemon in his party..
there arren't that much poison pokemon, the most are bug/poison, but not only poison.. |
Wow, I was thinking in make my POISON Pokémon Club... but... yeah, I think POISON pokémon are good only in TCG... I think...
|
Yeppers, I think its the poison type as well. Its only "real" uses are the moves that are poison type like toxic and the fact that a pokemon that is a poison type can't be affected by the poison condition. Otherwise, its got too many weaknesses and very little advantages over other types.
Bug types are also way up there. They seem to be only good against phychic types, and they have "some useful abilities... though not very much. Again, too many weaknesses and not enough strengths to say they're a decent type to use. |
Poisonous pokemon are at the bottom of the food chain. All I have to say.
|
Some people are going a bit ott. Poison types aren't all that bad defensively, it's just their attacks that don't serve much use.
As a defensive type, they're weak against only two types and resistant to four. That's not too shabby. Just offload a couple of different type attacks on them and they're ok. My Swalot hardly ever faints, while it wields some strong attacks such as Body Slam, Sludge Bomb (purely for STAB), Shadow Ball and Ice Beam. So it's not all doom and gloom. |
Heh, I dont like poision types... They're dirty and ugly. And I dont like their attacks. But maybe they're not all THAT bad.

The only high point I will give poison types are their resistance to poison attacks and semi-valuable techniques such as Toxic (my favorite, lol.) If it were good against a couple more types or something then maybe it has a chance at actually being playable. |

I'd have to say Seviper did pretty well in my party
|
I say that the most underpowered Pokemon are the Poison and the grass Pokemon. :)
|
Ehh, I think it’s more so grass. Leech Seed is very easy to practice in R/S, so that does help. Grass still could use a few less types that are resistant to it/more that are weak to it. Or more of them besides Grovyle and Sceptile learning the decent grass move…
|
Are you all crazy saying Poison is weak?!?! IT is the best type!!! It will rule you all!
*everyone stares at him* Err well I beleive Bug types need stronger moves. The best they have are Signal Beam (which is fairly rare among obtainable Bugs) and Silver Wind (also very rare and only has 5 PP). And I do remember Bugs having a weakness to Poison in R/B... |
grass isn't all that bad, its good against water, rock and ground and i think sumthing else
i think normal is underpowered a little since it isn't good against anything in r/b, dragon type was useless... it was good against dragon only and the only dragon attack was dragon rage which only does like 40 or 60 damage all the time |
poison's pretty bad, but fighting just got ripped off. it's weak to flying...... how does that makes sense? and poison is resestant to it. fighting's was only good against ice and normal, but i have a feeling nintendo kept poison in mind when they added dark and steel with weaknesses to it. and, fighting really isn't resistant.
|
Fighting is strong against
Steel Rock Ice Normal (and its only weakness too) Dark Plus with Brick Break, it’s very powerful now. |
ooooo.... be quiet, let me feel sorry for them
|
wow ryan, you got told......
|
I think normal types. Not just because they have no advantages, but there aren't much good Normal-types. Chansey couldn't cause damage if its life depended on it, which is annoying since that's one of my favorite Pokemon.
|
Blissey can cause no damage? That's like... no where near true (i wish it's true though)
Seismic toss, counter and toxic are all common moves on a blissey that make it terrifying (well that stats are even more terrifying). Fighting is crazily overpowered... Kairi said why already. Grass having resistance to fighting would make some sense... you really can't punch a tree and expect the whole thing to be pulled out of the ground right? |
Grass should be either balanced out, or be given Super stong Attacks that would kill even fire types.
|
I never really did understand Fighting being super effective against Steel. As if Hitmonchan's going to even graze a huge lump of iron like Steelix. :/
Dragons in R/B/Y were ridiculous. Why state that Dragon was good against Dragon when there were no Dragon attacks to back it up? (except Dragon Rage, which was fixed damage and only useful up until about level 20.) :| |
In a fic of mine, a Hitmonchan was very good against a Steelix, but whatever... I kind of agree that Fighting shouldn't be strong to Steel. Maybe Electric or Water instead... Water types annoy me though.
Anyway, Normal is FAR from underpowered. Some of the best/annoying/strongest Pokemon are normal, like Blissey, Slaking, Zangoose, Snorlax, and Miltank in GSC. Those wily normal types always have tricks of their sleeves. Grass types get picked on the most. 5 attacks are super-effective to them, and 6 types are resistant to grass (and a lot of those are popular types like flying, dragon, and fire). It's hard to use a garss type against water because water types almost always have ice beam. |
