I Need a Good Moveset for Altaria

As the title suggests, I really am in need of a good moveset for Altaria. Any suggestions would be great.

Chesters_love June 7th, 2006 5:51 PM

how about
dragon claw
dragon dance
sky attack
toxic

Fr0st June 7th, 2006 6:11 PM

Thats a bad moveset because first of all sing and spore do the same thing but spore does it better. And just because Altaria is fluffy doesnt mean it learns spore. It DOES NOT learn spore. Dragon Dance raises attack while dragon claw is a special attack... You obviously dont know what you are talking about -_-"

[email protected]
~Dragon Claw
~Flamethrower
~Rest
~Haze/Toxic

Special sweepeer with natural rest. Use rest and switch out and the sleep will go away thanks to natural cure. It makes a good special wall as long as it doesnt get hit by any ice beams. Toxic to stall and haze to well... haze.

You can also use...

[email protected]
~Dragon Dance
~Hidden Power Flying/Aerial Ace
~Earthquake
~Rest

Bad set compared to the first one though... The trick to using Altaria is abusing natural rest imo... Have fun with it

PS. Flygon/Salamence/Dragonite are the better dragons

shanecdavis June 7th, 2006 6:26 PM

PLEASE don't offer movesets if you don't know how. Altaria doesn't even learn Spore. DDing is MUCH better with Salamence than Altaria. What it does better than Sala is tank. Here is a suggestion:

Altaria @ Leftovers
Natural Cure

- Dragon Claw
- Flamethrower/Fire Blast
- Rest
- Sing/Perish Song

FlameClaw does at least standard damage on every Poke, Sing/PS to help force switching and Rest to heal/remove status. Natural Cure is fun to immediately wake Altaria up.

edit: my post is in response to gold typhlosion, not Fr0st.

VanirElf June 7th, 2006 6:50 PM

this set works pretty well for me.

Altaria
Nature: Adamant
EV: HP 252, Sp.Def 128, Def 128
@Left Overs
Safeguard
Dragon Dance
Earthquake
Aerial Ace

Lord Mike June 8th, 2006 4:19 AM

Altaria @ Leftovers
EVs: 100 HP / 152 Atk / 60 Def / 60 SDef / 136 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Earthquake
-Aeriel Ace
-Dragon Dance
-Hidden Power [Rock]

That's mine. I like using QuakeSlide Altaria.

Pax Deorum June 8th, 2006 4:52 AM

First of all, you shouldn't claim sets as it's very gay and stupid.
Second, the only reaso to use Altaria is to abuse Natural Resting

Synchronize June 8th, 2006 5:02 AM

yay, Altaria has a base 70 Atk, which is not good for sweeping. If you want to use Altaria effectively, make sure you abuse Rest. Your best bet is using Flameclaw, since it's not really trying to do any sweeping. Not to mention, its even harder to set up Dragon Dance in UU play, what with Ice Beams running even wilder than the do in OU.

Pax Deorum June 8th, 2006 5:19 AM

Altaria can take non STAB Ice Beams

Doesnt take away from the fact that DDAltaria is harder to set up than Sala in OU, although I see no reason to use DDAltaria when you have a perfectly usable Gligar setting right there.

Pax Deorum June 8th, 2006 5:31 AM

DD Altaria is for OU addicts.

Synchronize June 8th, 2006 5:36 AM

Well apparently I haven't reached the level of addict quite yet. =/

Lol. You say I make useless posts?

Anyway, I guess I could try Rest with FlameClaw. :\

Pax Deorum June 8th, 2006 5:47 AM

It's probably best before you kill someone of laughter

I'm sure Pax (or at least Mullet) agrees with me, but I'm cooler than you, and am exempt from my posts being useless.

Lord Mike June 8th, 2006 6:30 AM

Lol. You don't even know me. I'm one of the coolest people where I live.

Anyway, I tried FlameClaw Altaria, and it stinked. :\

Well apparently your neighborhood is not a cool, and you're not cool enough to use Flameclaw.

You can just assume things like that. You could live in an adobe house for all I know. :\

Anyway, yes, FlameClaw Altaria can't do anything.

Pax Deorum June 8th, 2006 6:35 AM

No one cares if you're the coolest in your neighbourhood

First of all, you make posts just as useless.

Second, you guys are just assuming that I'm lower class than you. Please keep that stuff to yourself.

Third of all, at least I was contributing a bit to the topic in my posts, and all you guys say is "Dude, you're not cool".

I wonder if that's why no one uses Altaria.

But you’re the one who derailed this whole topic, so I wouldn’t be talking if I were you. =\

Anyways, Frost’s two sets are the most effective you’ll get with Altaria, also though shane’s Perish Song can be interesting for phazing purposes.

So you saying that you're the coolest in your neighborhood means that you arent placing yourself over others?

I haven't seen anyone that has said "Dude, you're not cool" in this thread.

Back on Topic, Flameclaw still seems too meh to me, he needs more choices for attacks IMO

Chesters_love June 8th, 2006 11:06 AM

i agree who caresabout your rep?

Hayate June 8th, 2006 11:13 AM

This topic is meant for a moveset for Altaria, not for a discussion about cool eg. You can do that by PM if you want, but plz not here.

On-topic: There are several sites with movesets for Altaria, though i find this one working good:

Alratia @ leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EV's: 252 Speed, 252 Sp.Atk, 4 HP.
Timid Nature (+Speed,-Attack)
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Blast
- Sing
- Rest

Altaria's stats are balanced, except for HP. Fire Blast is for Steel/ grass eg. Dragon Claw is meaned for STAB vs. other Dragon's. And then. Sing for status problem, and rest for healing.

I hope you are helped with this, otherways you can always PM me about it.

Hayate.

Tha Pkmn Prodigy June 8th, 2006 11:14 AM

well Yo Mama wouldnt have to talk about his rep if synchronize didnt go around saying that he was cooler than him =/ well anywayz.....

Altaria @ Leftovers
Natural Cure

Syk Attack
Earthquake
Rest
Aerial Ace

**or**

Earthquake
Flamethrower
Rest
Dragonbreath

shanecdavis June 8th, 2006 11:44 AM

Ummm, please don't teach Altaria two-turn moves and two attacking moves of the same type. Also don't use Dragonbreath. Use Dragon Claw instead. Lastly, Altaria doesn't have the stats to be a good attacker. It is best used to tank using FlameClaw to special attack (that causes at least normal damage to all Pokes), and then use Sing/Rest or even Perish Song to support it. Please refer to the sets that Fr0st and I have posted at the beginning of this thread that has seriously derailed. Let's let the horse die in peace.

Pokémaniac June 8th, 2006 11:52 AM

Woah, I didn't think this thread would be that popular. Thanks to everyone who added, I think I might go with the FlameClaw moveset instead.

White Lotus June 8th, 2006 11:54 AM

Alteria - (Careful) 'Natural Cure' w/Focus Band
IV's - 30-31 HP/Def/Sdef
EV's - 252 HP/126 Def/126 Sdef
- Perish Song
- Heal Bell (XD)
- Protect
- Rest

I use him with Chaosbreon (Umbreon - mean look/taunt/wish/baton pass). Basically mean look something without ice beam and pass to alteria. Perish song 1st - heal bell or protect with ps on 3 - Rest with ps on 2 - switch back to umbreon with ps on 1. Rinse and repeat. The beauty is if your alteria is slower then the other poke you rest and nat cure off the sleep on the switch and usually get full hp. This is why I use focus band instead of lefties because you usually get full hps and to protect against the sneaky ice beam or real strong rock attack. Watch out for HP ice or rock but that goes for most things.

shanecdavis June 8th, 2006 12:24 PM

Since when can you BP Mean Look????

Pax Deorum June 8th, 2006 12:28 PM

since GSC was invented by Nintendo

I expected better from you shane... Trap Passing has been popular forever. Chaosbreon is one who trap passes to celebi and what not who perish song and kill. Unfortunately, altaria is strictly UU and umbreon is OU. I think it's decided that Flameclaw with natural rest and a filler is the best set.

shanecdavis June 8th, 2006 1:29 PM

Ummmm, someone else took over my account and typed that. I am not lying.

*sigh*

Man, these "senior moments" are starting to become more frequent. Thanks for enlightening my little brain. Sheesh.

Lol. I seen this happen so many times. :\

Anyway, after I learned about Perish Trapping better, I guess Altaria doesn have it uses. I just a bit apprehensive when people say that FlameClaw is recommended on Altaria. :\

shanecdavis June 8th, 2006 2:32 PM

No, Altaria does not have much use. Just too many other Pokes that can do it better.

Lord Mike June 8th, 2006 2:36 PM

Yeah, I guess Altaria isn't the best Dragon-type you'll find.

*cough* Dragonite *cough* Salamence

shanecdavis June 8th, 2006 2:43 PM

*cough* all other Dragon-types *cough*

Lord Mike June 9th, 2006 4:03 AM

I think Dragonite is best because its Attack is almost as good as Salamence but its Defenses are better.

shanecdavis June 9th, 2006 8:43 AM

That is actually why it isn't as good as Salamence. Salamence has the attacking and HP edge, but the biggest difference is its speed. That more than makes up for the lower defenses.

Toothache June 10th, 2006 5:39 AM

Not my idea originally, but still worthy of mention. Perish Song + Pursuit has interesting potential, especially combined with Spikes. Figure in a few things like Swampert to force some more switches and you're on to a winner.

[email protected]
EV: HP/Sp Att/Sp Def
Nature: Calm
Trait: Natural Cure
Perish Song
Pursuit
Sing/Dragon Claw
Rest

Lord Mike June 10th, 2006 6:06 AM

Its too bad Sing only hits about half the time. :(

I'd go with Dragon Claw for the STAB, but not Flamethrower or Fire Blast.

Pax Deorum June 10th, 2006 6:41 AM

You know nothing resists Flamecla right? So why not abuse it even though it doesn't deal much damage?

Lord Mike June 10th, 2006 7:14 AM

I used to abuse FlameClaw a lot. I do it on Charizard and Dragonite when I've not using the physical attacking set.
