Ummm, please don't teach Altaria two-turn moves and two attacking moves of the same type. Also don't use Dragonbreath. Use Dragon Claw instead. Lastly, Altaria doesn't have the stats to be a good attacker. It is best used to tank using FlameClaw to special attack (that causes at least normal damage to all Pokes), and then use Sing/Rest or even Perish Song to support it. Please refer to the sets that Fr0st and I have posted at the beginning of this thread that has seriously derailed. Let's let the horse die in peace.

Woah, I didn't think this thread would be that popular. Thanks to everyone who added, I think I might go with the FlameClaw moveset instead.

Alteria - (Careful) 'Natural Cure' w/Focus Band
IV's - 30-31 HP/Def/Sdef
EV's - 252 HP/126 Def/126 Sdef
- Perish Song
- Heal Bell (XD)
- Protect
- Rest

I use him with Chaosbreon (Umbreon - mean look/taunt/wish/baton pass). Basically mean look something without ice beam and pass to alteria. Perish song 1st - heal bell or protect with ps on 3 - Rest with ps on 2 - switch back to umbreon with ps on 1. Rinse and repeat. The beauty is if your alteria is slower then the other poke you rest and nat cure off the sleep on the switch and usually get full hp. This is why I use focus band instead of lefties because you usually get full hps and to protect against the sneaky ice beam or real strong rock attack. Watch out for HP ice or rock but that goes for most things.

I expected better from you shane... Trap Passing has been popular forever. Chaosbreon is one who trap passes to celebi and what not who perish song and kill. Unfortunately, altaria is strictly UU and umbreon is OU. I think it's decided that Flameclaw with natural rest and a filler is the best set.

Ummmm, someone else took over my account and typed that. I am not lying.

*sigh*

Man, these "senior moments" are starting to become more frequent. Thanks for enlightening my little brain. Sheesh.

Lol. I seen this happen so many times. :\

Anyway, after I learned about Perish Trapping better, I guess Altaria doesn have it uses. I just a bit apprehensive when people say that FlameClaw is recommended on Altaria. :\

shanecdavis June 8th, 2006 2:32 PM

No, Altaria does not have much use. Just too many other Pokes that can do it better.

Lord Mike June 8th, 2006 2:36 PM

Yeah, I guess Altaria isn't the best Dragon-type you'll find.

*cough* Dragonite *cough* Salamence

shanecdavis June 8th, 2006 2:43 PM

*cough* all other Dragon-types *cough*

Lord Mike June 9th, 2006 4:03 AM

I think Dragonite is best because its Attack is almost as good as Salamence but its Defenses are better.

shanecdavis June 9th, 2006 8:43 AM

That is actually why it isn't as good as Salamence. Salamence has the attacking and HP edge, but the biggest difference is its speed. That more than makes up for the lower defenses.

Not my idea originally, but still worthy of mention. Perish Song + Pursuit has interesting potential, especially combined with Spikes. Figure in a few things like Swampert to force some more switches and you're on to a winner.

[email protected]
EV: HP/Sp Att/Sp Def
Nature: Calm
Trait: Natural Cure
Perish Song
Pursuit
Sing/Dragon Claw
Rest

Lord Mike June 10th, 2006 6:06 AM

Its too bad Sing only hits about half the time. :(

I'd go with Dragon Claw for the STAB, but not Flamethrower or Fire Blast.

Pax Deorum June 10th, 2006 6:41 AM

You know nothing resists Flamecla right? So why not abuse it even though it doesn't deal much damage?

Lord Mike June 10th, 2006 7:14 AM

I used to abuse FlameClaw a lot. I do it on Charizard and Dragonite when I've not using the physical attacking set.
