starting over

i was thinking of starting my sapphire over and wanted some suggestions for the following pokemon

no breeding for moves please

Swampert

Torkoal

bellossom

Xatu

Magneton

Heracross

Pax Deorum June 28th, 2006 1:42 AM

Swampert: Earthquake/Ice Beam/Surf or Muddy Water/Rest

Torkoal: Fire Blast/Curse/Body Slam/Explosion

Bellossom: Not much it can do ingame. Sunnybeaming is ok but Sunny Day doesn't have the highest PP and Belossom is mostly a supporting pokemon and his only good STAB move is breed only

Xatu: Calm Mind/Psychic/Toxic/Giga Drain or Confuse Ray or Wish. Again, Xatu is a supporting pokemon

Magneton: Not much it can do ingame movesetwise like most Electrics seeing they usually relly on Thunderbolt and a Hidden Power. Thunderbolt/Metal Sound/Thunder Wave/Filler

Heracross: Bulk Up/Megahorn/Brick Break/Filler like EQ even though you won't need it much.

i agree almost entirely. but not EQ as filler you only get one per game. dont wast it.

why dont you just breed for moves? not doing so is just laziness.

Pax Deorum June 28th, 2006 3:34 PM

It's called Pickup which can be whored

gerudodragon1 June 28th, 2006 3:40 PM

oh zigzagoon and crap right, i 4got my bad.

shanecdavis June 28th, 2006 5:59 PM

It can only be whored in Emerald though, and according to the original post, this is Sapphire.

HackMan June 28th, 2006 7:28 PM

i was thinking and i guess i could breed for some moves

well if you want to breed a new bellossom then

@leftovers
-ingrain (leech seed over this but i dont think you want to go out and buy pokemon box)
-sunny day
-solarbeam/razorleaf
-moonlight

pump it full of Def and HP EVs

Sunny Day should be replaced if you use Razor Leaf. This set is better.

Bellossom @ Leftovers
Modest Nature
- Sunny Day
- Solarbeam
- Hidden Power [Fire / Ice]
- Sleep Powder

Pax Deorum June 29th, 2006 8:15 AM

not ingame as Sunny Day has crap PP and it's hard to get Hidden Power

aragornbird June 29th, 2006 10:19 AM

~*^*~~*^*~ ~*^*~ ~*^*~ ~*^*~~*^*~

Never ever use Ingrain except on a Baton Pass team. Being unable to switch out is like a free ticket to defeat.

Anyways, Vileplume is a much better Sunnybeamer than Bellossom. Bellossom is (fairly) good as a supporter:

Bellossom @ Leftovers
Calm Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain/Magical Leaf
- Moonlight
- Stun Spore

Basically, you double powder stuff and heal when necessary. Bellossom still sucks and should be avoided if possible.

Being pure grass makes Bellossom worthwile, but ingame it sucks. It's better on NB

gerudodragon1 June 29th, 2006 1:07 PM

belive me im no fan of ingrainid much rather have leech seed. im just tryin to make bellosom able to survive.

however ingrain is good on cacturne if you have a sandveil evasion team.

but if i may make a suggestion, lose maggy. ingame he is........ lacking.

Fr0st June 29th, 2006 1:30 PM

Not really... Metal sound+Thunderbolt rules all ingame pokes not ground...
In emerald... You can beat the whole elite four with a good Magneton

gerudodragon1 June 29th, 2006 3:04 PM

but eventualy your going to fight a hiker who backs you into a corner because you only have thunderbolt. and i suppose you could have sonicboom but youll be long dead before that beats any mid level pokemon.

if hidden power was an option my opinion would change but...

shanecdavis June 29th, 2006 3:26 PM

That is when you switch out to your special sweeper. Magneton is fine in-game, as the AI doesn't overuse EQ the way humans do. Outside of the BF, the movesets are basic and sadly predictable.

gerudodragon1 June 29th, 2006 5:27 PM

but ingame (unlike ppl) trainers have themes like hikers. he'll have to go through entire caves without using maggy.

shanecdavis June 29th, 2006 5:40 PM

And why is that a bad thing???

gerudodragon1 June 29th, 2006 5:52 PM

its not nessicarilly bad but maggy wont level as well and he would have to use a party of five (unless he decides to make an alt pokemon) while playing parts of the game where hikers are common.

shanecdavis June 29th, 2006 6:23 PM

Meh. Electrics have PLENTY of opportunities to make up for missed opportunities inside caves or squaring off against Hikers and such. So many water routes, so little Electric-types. Maggie does just fine, even with a team of 4 or 5.

Fr0st June 29th, 2006 7:02 PM

I used magneton to EV train things defensively and next thing I know its level 57 so don't say that Maggy wont level... Shane is right you will get PLENTY opportunities on everything (even caves have the bats to **** on...)
Maggie does do just fine
