Stage One poke team...

Yay, I have agreed to one of my few friends who play pokemons rules. We are gonna battle using only stage one pokemon.

Rules:
The stage one pokemon must have a stage two form. Meaning I cant use stuff like Houndoom and Milotic. (crud)

Basic ruling (sleep clause etc.)

Shelgon @ (item here)
Nature: Lonley

-Double Edge
-Brick Break-
-Dragon Dance
-Dragon Claw

Grovyle @ Salac
Nature: Timid

-Leech Seed-
-Thunder Punch-
-Sub-
-Leaf Blade- Basically A mini sceptile without dragon claws.

Machoke @ Choice Band??
Nature: Adamant
-Cross Chop/Brick Break/Focus Punch (cant decide)-
-Earthquake-
-Rock Slide-
-Facade- I obviously know im going to need substitute if I FP, No CB if I FP.

Vigoroth
Nature: Adamant

-Slash-
-Counter-
-Aerial Ace-
-Brick Break- (shame it doesnt get swords dance)

Kadabra
Nature: Timid

-Psychic-
-Calm Mind-
-Fire Punch-
-Ice punch- (not much else I can do)

Wartortle
Nature: Bold

-Counter-
-Ice Beam-
-Surf-
-Mirror Coat-

This is fun to use because wartortle has the defense to use these two moves. (counter and mirror coat).

Give me items nature suggestions all that good stuff. I mainly need items.

That's the set that works, dragon claw fails.

Machoke @ Choice Band??

You almost never see anyone posting here about anything except OU, and that's a shame. There are several metagames out there which are somewhat better, since the OU metagame is really limited to about 20-30 standards. I do get fed up with seeing the same Pokemon over again.

In case you don't know:

uber: uber/legendary, uses the legendaries that most people ban/clause for good reason in standard play (examples Mewtwo, Deoxys, Lugia, Groudon)
OU: overused/standard metagame, the most commonly talked about metagame, features unclaused legendaries (examples Salamence, Metagross, Gengar, Zapdos)
BL: borderline, Pokemon that can't quite cut it against OU but work fine against most others or with some team support. (examples Houndoom, Blaziken, Claydol)
UU: underused/underappreciated, below the borderlines but can just about hold their own (examples Gligar, Solrock, Fearow)
NU: never used, Pokemon that have such low stats they can't really do anything, or are just never used because there are better choices (examples Raticate, Whiscash, Sudowoodo)
UE: unevolved, usually used for Little Cup challenges and the like (examples Abra, Scyther, Chansey)
NFE: not fully evolved, Pokemon that have a middle stage (examples Vigoroth, Shelgon, Kadabra, Machoke)

There should be a sticky on terms like this (or is there one?)

jc_rcw July 4th, 2006 5:20 AM

A topic with the tiers, yes; this topic, no.

Toothache July 4th, 2006 5:24 AM

Smogon has tier lists I believe.

jc_rcw July 4th, 2006 5:29 AM

Everyone has a server/tier list, so bleh.

Max Attack and Speed with Adamant. Jc, it doesn't get EQ.

Grovyle @ Salac
Nature: Timid

-Leech Seed-
-Thunder Punch-
-Sub-
-Leaf Blade- Basically A mini sceptile without dragon claws.

No, Unevolved is too much of an offensive metagame to stall. Leaf Blade/Dragon Claw/Thunder Punch/[email protected] Max Sp. Attack and Speed with Timid

Machoke @ Choice Band??
Nature: Adamant
-Cross Chop/Brick Break/Focus Punch (cant decide)-
-Earthquake-
-Rock Slide-
-Facade- I obviously know im going to need substitute if I FP, No CB if I FP.

Cross hop/Rock Slide/Focus Punch/HP Ghost. Max Attack and Speed again with Adamant

Vigoroth
Nature: Adamant

-Slash-
-Counter-
-Aerial Ace-
-Brick Break- (shame it doesnt get swords dance)

Substitute/Bulk Up/Flail or Reversal/Shadow Ball. Max Attack and Speed with Jolly

Kadabra
Nature: Timid

-Psychic-
-Calm Mind-
-Fire Punch-
-Ice punch- (not much else I can do)

Substitute over Calm Mind @ Petaya

Wartortle
Nature: Bold

-Counter-
-Ice Beam-
-Surf-
-Mirror Coat-

Won't work in UE.The metagame is too offensive

Unevolved/Not Fulle Evolved is too offensive to use many stat up moves seeing most pokemon can't take a hit. Any fast sweeper will make you cry.

I see no stage one pokemon

-Double Edge

-Dragon Claw

Adament w/ max Attack+Spd Only Mence gets EQ. Leftovers.

Grovyle @ Salac
Nature: Timid

-Leech Seed-
-Thunder Punch-
-Sub-
-Leaf Blade- Basically A mini sceptile without dragon claws.

Gets killed before it can do any damage. SpA+Spd Salac

Machoke @ Choice Band??
Nature: Adamant
-Cross Chop/Brick Break/Focus Punch (cant decide)-
-Earthquake-
-Rock Slide-
-Facade- I obviously know im going to need substitute if I FP, No CB if I FP.

Only 2 arms. >=( Facade can be replaced w/ HP Ghost. No Sub w/ CB Atk+Spd CB

Vigoroth
Nature: Adamant

-Slash-
-Counter-
-Aerial Ace-
-Brick Break- (shame it doesnt get swords dance)

Breed. I like the Reversaler. Jolly. Max Atk+Spd Salac

Kadabra
Nature: Timid

-Psychic-
-Calm Mind-
-Fire Punch-
-Ice punch- (not much else I can do)

No stat boost Max SpA+Spd Leftovers.

Wartortle
Nature: Bold

-Counter-
-Ice Beam-
-Surf-
-Mirror Coat-

This is fun to use because wartortle has the defense to use these two moves. (counter and mirror coat).

Sad Wartortle

Give me items nature suggestions all that good stuff. I mainly need items.

I'm confused. Is this ingame? Replace the sad Wartortle.

Toothache July 4th, 2006 6:42 AM

Use Leftovers on Grovyle if you want to SubSeed. I'm not familiar with the NFE speed tiers so I dunno how fast he is, although I doubt much is faster before Salac.

Mullet July 4th, 2006 7:27 AM

No Machamp. =(

Machoke (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Guts
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Cross Chop
- Facade
- Hidden Power [Bug] (70 power) / Brick Break / Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Double STAB for ingame because one of the moves have a purpose if your friends are smart and use JirChamp (Reflect). ;) Earthquake if they don't use supporting moves like Reflect/Light Screen, or HP [Bug] if it has perfect 70 power (which it most likely doesn't).

fyi, NB NFE Tournaments ban Kadabra, Vigoroth, and the like, but since this is in-game, it’s no big deal.

Anyways, Wartortle kinda sucks and trying to use Counter/Mirror Coat won’t work well in this metagame. Marshtomp is the better Water starter:

Marshtomp @Leftovers
Nature: Brave
EVs: 252 Atk/ some in Sp. Attack, put the leftovers in HP or Defense
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Hydro Pump
-Ice Beam

Metang is also nice, not because it has stellar Attack, but because it resists a ton of stuff . Use the CB version, just like you would a Metagross: Meteor Mash, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Explosion.

Also, don’t forget about Haunter. It can’t learn the elemental punches, but it can learn a lot of other stuff.

Haunter @Leftovers
Hasty, Timid, or Modest
-Thunderbolt
-Psychic
-Shadow Ball/Giga Drain/Hypnosis
-Destiny Bond/Explosion

All three are viable options for your sixth slot.

enyce July 4th, 2006 1:49 PM

I cant use MAchamp in a freakin stage one game...

Oh thanks AB, I always thought Wartortle was a bad idea.... It was jus fuller really

I like Metang, and Haunter. Marshtomp is a mini swampert. I kinda got bored with swampert. I can see why Kadab is banned. But why vigo, Vigo doesnt even have triple digit stats.

Kadabra has 120 base Sp.attack on the other hand

jc_rcw July 4th, 2006 2:30 PM

Metang and haunter are very useful in nfe.
