Battle Tower Team

Hi all, I'm new around these forums.
I'm having some trouble getting the 4th star on my trainer card - the 50 wins in a row at the Battle Tower. I've reached the 50th trainer before, but unfortunately that trainer had [email protected]/regi which completely owned me. I'd be very grateful for any help whatsoever anyone can provide as to how I can improve my team, and hopefully obtain that final star. Here's my team (level 50 category):

--Flygon (level 50, quirky nature) @ leftovers
-Dragon Claw
-Crunch
-Earthquake
-Giga Drain

--Blaziken (level 50, bold nature) @ shell bell
-Slash
-Mirror Move
-Blaze Kick
-Fire Blast

--Walrein (level 50, modest nature) @ focus band
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Body Slam
-Blizzard

Thanks.

For Flygon:

Better to concentrate on his Attack, since it's much higher than Sp Att, and Speed to outspeed anything that would hurt/KO him.

[email protected] Band
EV: 252 Att/252 Speed/6 Sp Att
Nature: Adamant
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Quick Attack
Fire Blast

Fire Blast is for things like Skarmory which will resist your attacks and slow you down.

For Blaziken: Bold nature gives you a lowered attack which hurts. Try rebreeding for one. If you have Emerald access, get a better nature.

Blaz[email protected] Bell
Nature: Lonely
EV: 252 Att/192 Speed/64 Sp Att
Sky Uppercut
Flamethrower
Thunderpunch
Rock Slide

For Walrein: Hey, Modest nature is cool. + Sp Att, - Att, which is pretty good for him. Blizzard is a waste of a move slot, since he has Ice Beam + STAB anyway and Blizzard is inaccurate (70% accuracy hurts). Try Encore or Yawn over that. As for items, Chesto Berry + Rest, or give him Leftovers. Walrein can use Rest without Chesto Berry if you like.

Overall problems:
Lots of things give you problem. Flygon and Blaziken both fall to Water types, since most carry both a Water move and an Ice move, and Walrein can't hurt Water types enough to support them with a -Att nature and Body Slam. Better to replace one of your team with something to defend against specials, Regice is your easiest bet without trading. Also, status gives you lots of trouble so you may want to consider a Lum Berry or Rest somewhere.

[email protected]
Nature: Bold/Calm
EV: 252 HP/144 Def/112 Sp Att
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Thunder Wave
Rest

Thanks very much for your response, Toothache.
Also, I have access to Sapphire, Emerald and Fire Red, so no problems there. Would there be other pokemon that would be more effective that I could trade across from Fire Red? I have Latios, Latias, all Regis, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres too.

For the BT, what you need is a special attacker, a physical attacker, and a tank. Flygon can be a great physical attacker, especially if you use the CB set that Tooth suggested. A CB'd EQ with STAB can be devastating. You really need to get rid of your other two Pokes though. Blaziken just doesn't cut it as a special sweeper since its type leaves it open to a mariad of weaknesses and it is more physical than special to begin with. Walrien is, well, Walrien. When it comes to special sweepers, you can go a few different directions. Gengar is my favorite, but Alakazam is actually a bit better. I like Gengar because I use the McGar version (Substitute/Focus Punch) to make it more versatile. As for your wall, you can certainly go with Regice, but I prefer to avoid Legis. Milotic is the closest thing to a wall that I use. Isn't considered a "wall" per se, but with its high SAtk, its Marvel Scale Ability, and Recover, it works just fine. If you are okay using a Legi, I would use Suicune. It can tank on both sides and also support your other two Pokes quite well.

Shanecdavis,
would you mind adding me to your buddy list so we can talk?

Will_at_8 July 10th, 2006 4:07 PM

Okay, I have modified my team - now consisting of only two Pokemon (still need a third):

--Flygon (level 50, quirky nature) @ leftovers
-Dragon Claw
-Fire Blast
-Earthquake
-Giga Drain

--Milotic (level 50, relaxed nature) @ shell bell
-Blizzard
-Mirror Coat
-Recover
-Hydro Pump

(Still need lots of help)

Lol, Giga Drain sucks on a physical attacker like Flygon.

--Milotic (level 50, relaxed nature) @ shell bell
-Ice Beam
-Mirror Coat
-Recover
-Surf

Inaccurate attacks like Blizzard and Hydro Pump aren't for Milotic. Go with the more accuracte Surf and Ice Beam.

Use Leftovers on Milotic and Shell Bell on Flygon. Flygon will be all out attacking, so it’ll get much more use out of Shell Bell. Milotic is more defensive, so it needs the constant help of Leftovers.

Listen to Toothache and get Regice as your third Pokemon:

Regice @Chesto Berry
Calm Nature (Bold or Modest is also fine)
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Thunder Wave
-Rest

Okay, I'll switch leftovers and shell bell around, modify the attacks and get my regice up to scratch. Thanks a lot aragornbird!

Squeegee Beckenheim July 10th, 2006 5:07 PM

This would be a lot better in GB Strategies and Movesets. Next time you need team help, get it there. I'll move it there now.

MOVED

Will_at_8 July 10th, 2006 7:35 PM

Would anyone be able to suggest a move in place of Dragon Claw? Although I'm breeding a Rock Slide Flygon at the moment, I seem to have run out of Dragon Claw TMs (Trapinch cannot learn Dragon Claw, hence my unableness passing the move down from my original Flygon). Also, my Regice has sassy nature - is this okay?

Rubberbandman July 10th, 2006 8:40 PM

Screech is nice since you need a support move

Will_at_8 July 10th, 2006 8:48 PM

Okay, thanks Rubberbandman. I'll see what I can do about putting a Screech in there.

Will_at_8 July 10th, 2006 10:20 PM

Okay, it's kind of getting annoying now breeding a Rock Slide onto Flygon. I have been trying all day. Should I breed a female Flygon with a male Geodude knowing Rock Slide as his only move?

Toothache July 11th, 2006 12:13 AM

Flygon can't get Rock Slide via breeding. Try using the Move Tutors near the Battle Dome (you'll need 48 Battle Points to buy Rock Slide).

Will_at_8 July 11th, 2006 1:27 AM

Righto, I'll trade Flygon over to Emerald and give it a shot.

Will_at_8 July 11th, 2006 3:48 AM

Order of Pokemon=
1. Flygon
2. Milotic
3. Regice
?

Synchronize July 11th, 2006 4:57 AM

Seems good IMO. Just watch out for those gay double-teaming Chanseys/Blisseys

sadf
afds

Rock Slide is also obtainable for free in FR/LG in Rock Tunnel near the end of the cave. I can't give an exact location, but it should be on the last or next to last floor in the lower left corner

Flamman July 11th, 2006 9:20 AM

if i were you i'dd gve it a shot now, your team is quite good, so winning cannot be a big problem. just watch out for those trainers with legendaries. my story:
after 46 battles, number 47 came along:
my pokemon:
- regice
- salamence
- medicham

oponent:
- walrein
- SHINY regirock(WHAAAA! i want it!)
- latios

it pwned me!

anyway, good luck!

Lol, thanks guys for all your help. I will post my completed team as soon as it is completed, and then beat 22 more trainers in the battle tower (28 in a row at the moment). You've all been of great assistance!
