Very good, but yeah, if you guys learn how to hack in G/S music you should definitely do that. It just loses that nostalgic feeling without the original music in there. If you guys need help remixing the music, just PM me, because I can definitely help with that. Infact, I'm doing a lot of research on how GBA music is handled, so I might even be able to soon help you. So far I've found the offset of each different sound channel, excluding the DirectSounds and now I just need to figure out how the game makes music.

birthofdna June 17th, 2007 2:31 PM

I sequenced some GSC music. zel, did you get them? I sent them thru Gmail.

In fact, I just finished sequencing GSC's Route 2 theme.

Magnius June 17th, 2007 5:07 PM

Hmm... cool, if by sequenced you mean in the game, and not just the midi that's even better. I see you've done a couple themes already, so maybe we could make this a team effort. Here's a remix I did of New Bark Town:
EDIT: Crap, can't upload it...

birthofdna June 17th, 2007 5:20 PM

no problem, just email me the link to the site. (i'll PM you my email address)

And unfortunately, I have them in midi.

Yeah, mine is in midi too... But I think may be close to figuring out how to compose in GBA. I just haven't figured DirectSound or how the game composes music. I did gather quite a lot of info on how GBA uses sound though, here are my notes if you're interested:
Quote:

Game Boy Advance Music Information

Has 6 channels:
Channel 1
Channel 2
Channel 3
Channel 4
Direct Sound A
Direct Sound B

Channels seem to use single instruments, while Direct Sound A and Direct Sound B use multiple instruments.

Channel 4 is used as a snare track and sometimes for Sound Effects.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow uses only DirectSound.

Fire Emblem games use mostly DirectSound.

Channels are usually backing, the main sound is in the DirectSound.

The first 3 channels are synth channels.

While Channel 4 has the snare track, DirectSoundA can use a whole set of drums, including more powerful snare hits.

DirectSoundB can be used for SFX.

GBA games have 2 DirectSound channels. One will always be the main sound and the other will always be the quieter backing track. DirectSound can use a number of instruments.

DirectSound is new to the Game Boy Advance, but channels are brought back from the previous Game Boy system.

Pokemon Specific Information:
- DirectSoundB is usually the main sound. DirectSoundA is usually a quieter background to DirectSoundA.
- SFX is generated in Channel 1.

Sound is stored in the I/O.

Channel 1 starts at 0x04000060
Channel 2 starts at 0x04000068
Channel 4 starts at 0x04000078

Zel, I have an idea with Red (maybe SGX).
I think you should have Red's Pikachu know Surf, to "protect" against ground types.

Well, Ashlee already has a "Surfing Pikachu", so it would be a bit repeatitive. For SG I'll keep its original moveset, and as for SGX, I guess I'll take a look at those professional movesets posted in the guides at Gamefaqs (even though I doubt a pro moveset could help the yellow rat :P)

It's not a bad idea, because the other idea could be to make Red another "timed event"

i mean in FR in saaffron west u r seeinn the path and in ecruteak u r seeing the trees. Why is that?

I'm trying to recreate the maps as they were in the original Gold, and Ecruteak was full of trees to its sides.

It's not like she gives you an infinite ammount of items, it's just that she gives you a pair of different items to help you in the quest in Mahogany's Hideout (unless you were refering to a glitch there)

On other news, it's good to have more people helping in the music department. I guess we'll have good music for the B5! :)

Well, I haven't been too active the last days, as I'm busy with another assignment, and I need to finish that for this week, so I guess I won't be too active this week as well. So, keep the PMs and the posts at the minimum, as I won't be of humour to reply.
And I can't post screenshots, as I'm not at Windows either :(

Well, I'll see ya'll in a few days!

du1387 June 18th, 2007 8:57 AM

This is possibly the best hack I've seen on here. Keep it up.

What's the point in wanting to absolutely keep one's original moveset, when another nextgen one is availbale in the grass? Cause you said all 386 will be available, so I don't see the use of being retro compliant with story and events, when you make all 386 available....

That's why I think their movesets should be improved a little ...

EDIT: Well, mostly because everyone who enjoyed Silver/Gold remembers Ash well Red 's team.

It is shiny GOLD, not fire RED ... The Kanto towns you are able to visit in Gold/Silver aren't the same as in (fire) Red ....

Maybe because it's his hack and he can do whatever he wants with it?

Magnius June 18th, 2007 11:00 AM

So question, if you made another release, could you just patch the current release of the game? Wouldn't want to start all over. Also, I tried the option ---> Emulation ---> Save Type ---> Flash 128k thing and I still can't save. I get "Save error." "Please exchange the backup memory".

du1387 June 18th, 2007 11:10 AM

Hey, just a couple of glitches/gameplay things that I've noticed and you might want to address:

The first youngster you can battle's name comes up as Youngster-/Trainer/

The Bugcatcher close to the entrance into Violet City's name comes up as Bug Catcher /2trainer

The Pokemon Center in Violet City's outside surrounding area is the floor in the center instead of black

Also, Bug Catcher Don doesn't watch the trainer like he did in G/S. This isn't a glitch, it's just something that would make gameplay slightly better.

Awesome Hack though.

And I assume the whole Unown thing isn't finished yet. Also lol, seems strange finding IgglyBuff's where Unown's are.

shadow ho-oh June 18th, 2007 12:34 PM

i have a glitch i found while playing the shiny gold beta 4 preview

I was battling the first Rocket Grunt in Slowpoke's Well and his second pokemon was the ?? version of Missingno. instead of a Zubat. I contunied the well and everyone else was fine. When I battled him in ver3.5 he was fine. I am not sure if this has been posted or if anyone else has had this problem

P.S. good job with this game it will be great when you finish it

No Shiny Gyarados in the Preview, but it will be in B4.
Quoted from the first post, unless you missed that.

NidoodiN June 18th, 2007 2:15 PM

Not sure if you've fixed it in Beta 4 yet, but if you fish in the route where the Whirl Islands are, you'll find Missingnos.

birthofdna June 18th, 2007 2:18 PM

Let's not rush zel.

BTW, love the graphical alterations! (case in point: Vermilion City)

Shinypoke666 June 18th, 2007 2:28 PM

i just wanted to say that this is one of the best hacks and say that zel is awesome!

Magnius June 18th, 2007 2:32 PM

Hah, Gym Leaders are a push over if you level up enough. All comes down to knowing their weakness.
