Help me with this team, please... I'm stumped. :|

This team is for Battle Tower, strictly Sapphire version since Pokemon players are rare at my school. >.<

Starmie @ Shell Bell/Choice Band
Trait: Natural Cure
Nature: Adamant
ThunderBolt
Psychic
Surf
Ice Beam

I am seriously changing this thing. I want a Starmie with a Modest nature, and a much better moveset. I really wasn't thinking very well before training it for Battle Tower. (Where can I steal a Blue Shard?)

Metagross @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
Nature: Rash
Psychic
Light Screen
Secret Power (30% paralysis)
Iron Defense

I'm having a lot of trouble with this thing. Its low SpDef and Spd are problems for me, especially when I'm battling faster Pokes with high Spd and SpAtk that also know fire-type moves (such as, oh let's say, Blaziken or Salamence that have the right natures).

Absol @ Quick Claw
Trait: Pressure
Nature: Adamant
Slash (I'm breaking a very popular rule here, but it was either this or Quick Attack.)
Double Team
Swords Dance
Flamethrower

I need help here... Plenty... I was very surprised by Absol's immense Atk which even surpassed my Metagross'. I decided to abuse it so I kept Swords Dance. But my problem with Absol is that it's the only member of my team that can learn Flamethrower, yet, it has abbysmal SpAtk. I was forced to learn a Fire-type move since I had trouble dealing with Steel-types.

My old team contained a Latias, but I decided Starmie was good enough, even with the bad nature. I only included Absol after a humiliating defeat by a Shedinja...

ThunderBolt
Recover
Surf
Ice Beam

Yes get a modest one, DON'T EVER USE CHOICE BAND ON POKEMONS THAT HAVE NO PHYSICAL ATTACKS AND MORE IF THEY HAVE A LOW ATK STAT. No need for psychic. Try diving near mossdeep city.

Metagross @ Choice band
Trait: Clear Body
Nature: Adamant
Meteor Mash
earthquake
shadowball/rock slide
explosion

OR

Brave

Meteor mash
psychic
thunder punch
explosion/earthquake

You got it all wrong, this won't survive. First set will kill a lot of stuff, second set is mixgross, which is fun to use IMO.

Absol @ Quick Claw
Trait: Pressure
Nature: Adamant
Return?
Shadow ball

Swords Dance
Filler ;_;

Absol really can't work ingame since it has a very bad movepool. Try something else if you really think you have problems with steel types.

My old team contained a Latias, but I decided Starmie was good enough, even with the bad nature. I only included Absol after a humiliating defeat by a Shedinja...

Sheddy is easy to kill if you know what kills it, but if you can't control it, change some pokemons.

Starmie @ Shell Bell/Choice Band
Trait: Natural Cure
Nature: Adamant
Thunderbolt
Psychic Recover
Surf
Ice Beam/Reflect

Nyah, you got it right about the nature. It's the worst one you could get, really. Recover over Psychic since a STAB Surf (Or in the rare cases a Thunderbolt or Ice Beam) will handle fighting and poison types better or equally well. Incidentally, Clamperl is the pokémon to hunt if you want a Blue Shard.

Metagross @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
Nature: Rash
Psychic Earthquake
Light Screen Meteor Mash
Secret Power (30% paralysis) Explosion/Rock Slide
Iron Defense Agility

I'm having a lot of trouble with this thing. Its low SpDef and Spd are problems for me, especially when I'm battling faster Pokes with high Spd and SpAtk that also know fire-type moves (such as, oh let's say, Blaziken or Salamence that have the right natures).

Nyah, all wrong. Secret Power is a junk move if ever there was one, it's a hopelessly mediocre normal move and the special ability is unreliable and usually sucks. Also, what's the point of giving it two defensive moves when you have no HP recovery move? Those are wasted moveslots right there. Agility to eliminate your speed problem and then either Explosion for a goodbye present or Rock Slide to hurt fire and flying types.

Absol @ Quick Claw Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
Nature: Adamant
Slash (I'm breaking a very popular rule here, but it was either this or Quick Attack.) Double-Edge/Baton Pass
Double Team Shadow Ball
Swords Dance
Flamethrower Iron Tail

I need help here... Plenty... I was very surprised by Absol's immense Atk which even surpassed my Metagross'. I decided to abuse it so I kept Swords Dance. But my problem with Absol is that it's the only member of my team that can learn Flamethrower, yet, it has abbysmal SpAtk. Bleah, Flamethrower on Absol (Especially an Adamant Absol) is a waste of space. Go all out with powerful physical attacks and hope that you get a chance to get Swords Dance in before it gets KOed. Baton Pass could let you share the fun, but meh... in all honesty you should just ditch this one and get yourself a bulky walling type like Snorlax. Don't worry about the Steel types too much, Starmie can handle those with Surf since their Sp.Defense tends to suck, Metagross should put a good dent in with Earthquake as well.

My old team contained a Latias, but I decided Starmie was good enough, even with the bad nature. I only included Absol after a humiliating defeat by a Shedinja...

Nyah, Sheddy problems, eh? In that case just stick Rock Slide on Metagross and you should handle that bussiness right quick, or of course you could just get something with Toxic, Will-O-Wisp, or Leech Seed. You're placing a bit too much value on sheddy countering, really, it's only used by the Arena Tycoon in the first round and one random bug catcher in the early Battle Dome rounds. At any rate, help Metagross (Preferably get one with a better nature) and please find something useful instead of Absol. That high Attack won't do a thing for you when it gets outspeeded and OHKOed by just about anything. xP

Aw, dang. I thought Choice Band affected even Special Moves. Thanks for that info, jc_rcw. The Metagross is hopeless and Earthquake's already been used on my Aggron, and Shadow Ball on my Mightyena. (That seriously sucks, I know. I used to be stupid. I probably still am, but, nyah...). I've got to study some breeding charts for that Rock Slide... And seeing how Metagross can't learn it through breeding, being genderless and all, I guess I'll have to change him. Or have him traded to Emerald for that move tutor guy. Thankfully, I've saved my Toxic TM... I'll go get a different Pokemon with a fitting nature and trait. As for Absol and Starmie, back to the boxes with them... Absol will be replaced by...... i dunno. Starmie will be replaced by Starmie v2.0 with Modest nature, Reflect and Recover. And about that Metagross, I placed Light Screen and Iron Defense since they were backed up by Leftovers. I thought that was a good enough combo but obviously, I was wrong. I need to change my entire team... I have nobody to trade with, so no Move Tutor... I'm limited strictly to Sapphire, so it would help sooooooooo much if the standards were kept within the cart's range. When I DO find somebody to trade with, I want to be prepared for a battle soon after. Well, wish me luck everyone.

Alter_Ego, this is the second time you've helped me out. Kudos to you and jc_rcw. I welcomingly accept your constructive criticism. Thanks guys!

jc_rcw September 23rd, 2006 7:01 AM

We're here for that. If you are going to completely get rid of metagross, you can always use salamence, though you'd have to breed if you use the dragon dance set.

Leftovers
Adamant
Dragon dance
Aerial ace
Earthquake (Yeah you already used it ;_; )
rock slide/fire blast

or

choice band
adamant/jolly
aerial ace
earthquake
rock slide
fire blast/brick break/hydro pump

The sets are pretty similar, but I can't think of something else.

g_man92 September 24th, 2006 3:11 PM

I like your starmie, you're great on that one.as for your metagross, i prefer a sweeper moveset

and your absol, if you can get the right nature, ev's, etc., like mine, will look like this(i got my absol in the high 200's in spatk, with the correct stuff, at lv.100)
1.aerial ace
2.crunch
3.swords dance
4.thunderbolt/ice beam/flamethrower((hard to choose for me, i get the tm's to suit the situation.))

oh, and as for salamence, i like my set for it
1.flamethrower
2.hydro pump
3.dragon claw
4.earthquake

hey, if anyone can comment on my chansey in gold here, please do:
1.toxic
2.protect
3.detect
4.psychic

Hey, g_man92 don't triple post. [/mini-mod] And Tail_Glow listen to jc_rcw and Alter_Ego, there the ones that fixed your team right up.

Kylie-chan September 24th, 2006 8:17 PM

Don't mini-mod, just report it. g_man92, he's right, go read the rules, & don't spam with YOUR team. Make a new thread for it.
