Crystal Clair's FALL art thread

I may make one for every season XD
Well, I've been gone for a while, but I was just letting my picture collection stock up before I posted them all. Then PC was down for long and my art thread was kinda gone.
Well, since we've got a few months of fall, I now show you all new pictures
Sakaki and the cat (Azumanga Daioh) ((Funny))
Chibi of my character Miyaki from my new series "The "Joys" of Summer"
The title's based on one of my favorite songs from the 80s. And Miyaki's supposed to be the rich girl in the town where the protagonist lives. The story takes place in a fictional town in Japan and is about a bunch of girls and a few boys who dont make it into high school. The manga so far is very funny. I think this may be a series I may finish!
btw, if you look closely, the lines look more like ShiPainter lines..... because I used a different technique in PaintShop Pro. I may use it alot now since the results are flattering.
Flannery in a kimono (different from Princess Flannery)
That one I did on ShiPainter. I did it because in regular Flannery fanart, she makes the age rating go up.

And last for now, Clover from Totemo Spies/Totally Spies here (Recommended)
I really really love the way it came out because it was done in crayola markers, the kind you can find anywhere. My Clover>Totally Spies Clover IMO
I hope you all like it.
edit - Okayyyyy so some of the links are kinda messed up
lesson of the thread Dont link to oekakis!!!11

mistywishmaker September 24th, 2006 5:04 PM

Yaay a fall art thread!! <3

I just love love love love (x100) the Sakaki and Nekokoneko fanart <3 So cute! I support that shipping. o___o

Flannery is so beautiful! I love the almost line-less lineart style for the coloring of her face. <3

Crystal Clair September 25th, 2006 3:23 PM

Thank you MWM
Here's a Pokesho-style icon of myself

The collar is supposed to have a red stripe but it messed up

Kurosaki Ichigo September 25th, 2006 3:51 PM

Niceness Clair, as Flannery's #1 Fan that is awesome, and you got Clover right on, yeah I used to watch Totally Spies XD

Crystal Clair September 27th, 2006 5:48 PM

^ #1 fan? Are you her #1 fan?
Well I got an update
Hikari fanart!
made on mspaint 100% including the background
Hikari-chan

doesn't matter September 27th, 2006 5:53 PM

Well the Flannery is heaps good ... but I'd prefer to see the entire body in a yukata (summer kimono).

And how did you do Hikari in MSPaint? It's pretty awesome.

Well I did a sketch, then I did lineart with the bezier/curve tool. Then I erased the sketch, colored it in and shaded it. The background was done by an old mspaint trick that I learned on google

Pretty much the same thing I do. When I scan in the sketch, it's at a very high resolution/image dimensions so then after I finish outlining and coloring, I then go into GIMP and resize the image to something that's viewable on screen-and it also gives the the "smoothed" effect.

BTW, I <3 the Flannery image-it's so beautiful <3

Art bump
Hey, I'm back with a new oekaki and some awesome news
The oekaki
Saria (from Zelda Oot) done the official art style
and the news
just like I stated in my signature, I'm working on a manga that's 90% done in the first volume. There are more than 50 pages and quite a few chapters. However scanning all the 25 papers (I do two pages on one paper) will take forever, so that's why I'm going to capture the manga on my digital camera and try to make it as good-looking as possible.
Expect "scans" of my first manga volume soon.

Sunflorazumarill November 6th, 2006 4:21 PM

Well, will you have that one beach pic ready soon?

Crystal Clair November 7th, 2006 3:55 PM

^ maybe.....
Since someone posted in my art thread, I can finally show you all my latest works of art
A picture of Natane I created a few hours ago on BMGf's shi painter
And you can finally watch the animation of how I did it!!!111
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3539/kasumitonatanebycrystalsv4.jpg
A picture of Misty and Natane in the Great Bay Temple from Majora's Mask. It took me weeks to finish this one.
A traceover (anime style) of Natane's Sugimori art
http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/1500/nataneheadshotbycrystalmt4.th.jpg

And the manga "The "Joys" of Summer" aka TJoS
Well, not the entire manga. Because I did over 50 pages of it and I haven't "scanned in" any pages yet. But here I will tell you about the story.

Narya is a typical teenager living in the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan in a fictional town called Nayama where over ninety percent of the population is financially well off. However, Narya hates school, so her mother has no choice but to not make her take the entrance exams into high school. So Narya leaves middle school with "fond" memories of education and enters her eternal summer to discover that she hasn't fully escaped going to school everyday afterall.

Her mother sends her to a school camp where a bunch of her other friends (who also didn't go to high school for reasons I will discuss in the manga) are. However, if I say anymore, this post may get too big.
Note - Nayama is a fictional town with other fictional qualities, and that goes for the high school too. So if there's anything that is non-existant in Japan or Japanese culture, just forget about it and enjoy the story.
.... I may get a few pages up this week btw
Please please post! I dont do this artwork and post it here for nothing!

Sunflorazumarill November 7th, 2006 5:01 PM

I hope to see more pics, including a certain one!

Neko Godot November 13th, 2006 3:59 PM

Lovely art as always Clair! ^^

Coming if you post at my art thread - The "Joys" of Summer (the first successful manga series)
I did end up using a scanner and I even toned my first two pages. However something happened with the third page and that has some crucial information so in order to avoid confusion, I wont post the other pages until I post the third page
Page 1 (uninked but toned) the Disclaimer
Page 2 (inked and looks great) the story starts here

and a pic I just put up on deviantart
warning it's pg13
it's not like porn but it's like the stuff on Pokesho
Hikari and Ash
and Ash isn't looking where you think he's looking.

Jeremy November 18th, 2006 10:40 PM

I <3 your art sweetie, it's awsome sweetie. x3 I especially like the last pic. ^///^ XD Keep it up sweetie. ^^

Crystal Clair November 19th, 2006 2:24 PM

Jeremy, I knew you'd like that pic.... believe it or not, I started drawing it at school. XD
Well I have a very weird picture to show you all. I also want your feedback on this new style.
Introducing, line-drawn Hinata!
http://img486.imageshack.us/img486/7161/hinatalinesgh5.png
Made on ShiPainter on Bulbagarden ages ago.
Inspired from an oekaki/rel on Pokesho's oekaki board that I saw ages ago (and I saved it too)
..... unfortunately for the life of Clair, I cannot find it (however I did find another picture I have been looking for ages for)

Jeremy November 22nd, 2006 5:00 PM

I like that style sweetie. ^^ It's really kawaii, and for some odd reason the style reminds me of one of my fave RPGs, Paper Mario. ^^;

Crystal Clair December 8th, 2006 8:39 PM

I apologize for this long hatius but I've got a treat for you all. And this treat is very special.
I was searching my dad's old computer files when I stumbled upon....
the very first Pokemon/anime pics I had ever drawn that were entirely anime.
Before I began the anime style completely, I just drew the typical circle face only with those Pokemon-style eyes. So it was kind of a fusion. I think that was cool actually.
But this picture, made my history. It's also the reason I tend to draw in that angle
introducing, the first ever Pokemon picture I drew
I cant believe how far I've advanced.
;_; it's incredible

Well I have been obsessed with Clair for two entire years so I guess I gotta move on. Hey look at Phantom Bugsy! She's so obsessed with her Les Miserables (sp?) that she doesn't mention Brawly as much as she used to.
Plus Shinji is really sick. (a good sick, not like psycho or my currrent health conditions)
Speaking of my health conditions, yes I'm pretty sick. Not just an ordinary cold. Try insomnia at night, constant sneezing, dizzyiness and missing school. It's that stupid 60 degree weather we've been getting (it's almost Christmas and I dont see winter coming at all)
What a coincidence you posted! I was gonna double post to post this new tutorial I threw together.
Note - Marking it in Spoiler tags so my post doesn't look too big. It's big enough as it is.
Crystal Clair's Official Fancy Lineart Tutorial
note - this is not about how to do lineart, it's how to modify it to make it look much better.
And warning, this tutorial is
H U G E
Spoiler:

Have you ever noticed that one of the reasons Pokesho's artwork looks so professional is because the lineart is not bold and dark. Bold and dark lineart can sometimes make a picture look more amateuric. Have you ever seen that fancy anime artwork on people's banners? Notice how much of that art seems to lack lineart. The lineart just blends into the image.

I can tell you how I do this. No I dont color the lineart. (for some reason it doesn't give off the same effect.

In order to do this, you will need a finished picture with the lineart still on a seperate layer. You can probably do this with any program as long as the program has layers and transparency settings for the eraser too, which means you can even use a ShiPainter! Make a copy of your lineart in case you screw up.

Now, make only one layer visable. Select your eraser tool and set the transparency to 20%. Now wherever the lineart stands out too much, do some dabs. Dont drag the eraser because you may end up erasing the whole line! If the colors around the line are dark, that means they wont stand out as much so you can get away with keeping them.

Here's an example of an icon I did using this technique
Before - dark, lines. (dark lines can make an area look smaller so dont use thick lines on icons if you want them to be clear)
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/962/iconex1ks3.png
that's not the actual background, the background's gonna be transparent

After! - Gosh, you can really see the difference! The lineart looks completely different! And to think it only took less than five minutes of light dabbing with an eraser.
http://img344.imageshack.us/img344/2098/iconex2dk0.png
With this skill at hand, you're just one step towards becoming as good as the artist of Pokesho (Soara). Not to mention you'll be able to make your own icons (like the one in the example) and edit Pokesho's pics for your own private uses ^_~.

Btw, this only applies to the kind of art that Pokesho does. Art done by my friend (the above poster) may have thick lines but looks good because they're done well and suit the style.

Incase anyone drops by here, I'm posting an animation I made
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6591/firstgiantanimationfq6.gif
Just incase someone DOES stop by.

Aegis January 10th, 2007 6:52 PM

Nice tutorial! I think it makes sense, and you can tell a difference. I'm not exaclty sure how to set my eraser tool to 20% though... but maybe it's just the program I'm using

xD! That animation made me laugh. Sorry I didn't stop by here sooner!

Crystal Clair January 11th, 2007 3:46 PM

THANK YOU FOR REVIVING MY THREAD!!!!111
I can finally post my newest picture I finished today. It was a birthday present for Phantom Bugsy (her birthday's today). It was my first time drawing a guy's chest.
OMG Hyouta smex!!111
XD
oh yeah, and if you check my Deviantart account, there's a Shinji statue there.

Forest Grovyle January 11th, 2007 4:20 PM

Don't worry Crystal Clair, you're allowed to art bump if it's clear nobody is going to post and you have new art to show. :) As long as it's not too excessive, it's fine.

I like your animation - I've been meaning to try some more animation myself! It's always been something I've wanted to do.

^ Actually I sorta knew I could but I wasn't taking any chances. Thanks for confirming it though. I didn't see anything on the rules list so maybe someone should put it there.
I have a very pretty work of art to show today. It isn't Pokemon but it's gorgeous and colorful. It's not really cel-shaded either, it's soft-looking
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/5042/princesscassandrauo8.th.png
Times like this, I wish this forum had that img200 shrinking code like SPPf does.
Meh, Imageshack's thumbnail feature will have to do.

dannichols January 16th, 2007 4:31 PM

Well, I would like to say you did a great job on your artwork. Keep it up!
