Foreign Languages Club
This club is for all those who are interested in studying foreign languages (including English, as I am aware that we're from all around the world here). You don't have to be fluent in two or more languages, nor do you even have to have learned a foreign language to be able to join. We can also speak in foreign languages here.
Club Rules 1. I encourage you to post messages in languages other than English. However, please be aware that some people may not speak that language or their computers might not be able to display it. For this purpose, please provide an English translation. 2. Be polite to other members, and do not insult someone for making a mistake. Remember that mamy of us are still learning. If someone makes a spelling or grammatical error, you may kindly notify him or her of the mistake and correct it. 3. Internet "languages," such as chatspeak or 1337, are not to be used here. Fictional/ joke languages like Elvish or Klingon may be discussed, but please translate anything you're saying into English Club Members Owner Aqua Dream Co-Owner Members IvySaur Killer-Swift Pikabloo Virtual Headache Crystal Clair phantom_of_death Seventh Petal Auron Mudkipblader Jari Hiidoran EmeraldSky When joining, I recommend you fill out this form in your first post. It's good to see that we have people interested in all sorts of languages. I was afraid that we would only see Spanish, French, Latin, and Japanese here, but I'm glad to know that I was wrong. |
Kamusta kayong lahat? Ok lang naman ako
How are you all? I'm just fine. -Tagalog Hehe... Foreign languages are cool  |

Wassalaamu Alekum! (Arabic: Literally "May peace be upon you," though often used as a greeting or a goodbye.)
Unfortunately, my computer does not have Arabic text support. I'm just ignoring the accent marks, since they're a pain in the but to impliment on these forums. |
Benutzt du Windows XP? Dort kann man zusätzliche Zeichensätze installieren.

Hi. May I join this club.... or
kore kurabu o kuwawate kudasai desu ka? (no idea if I got that correct) I currently know year one of Spanish (am retaking it again but it's easier this time so I dont have to really apply myself) I'm fluent in English and pretty good in Japanese. I can form basic and semi-basic sentences in Japanese, know about 200 kanji and know 25 to 40% of the stuff in raw Pokemon episodes. |
Sige, join ka sa club. Pero gamitin mo naman yung form sa first post ^_^
Okay, I think you can join. But use the form thing in the first post ^_^ -Tagalog The great thing about Tagalog is that if you don't know how to say something, you can say it in English, and everyone will still understand. When you do it, it's call Taglish XD |
Bruchah Haba'ah (Hebrew: Welcome, literally "Blessed is the one who has come.)
My computer can display Hebrew, but I've been having trouble getting it to work on the forums. And actually, you're not required to fill out that form; it's just recommended. That's pretty convenient. You can do the same thing in Hebrew too, as most Israelis speak English to some degree. |
yo, my bro has suggested that i take internet lessons on learning Lithuanian
quote"Why don't you just go to google and type in 'Lithuanian LEssons'?" or soemthing like that. XD lol Mon frere est lint. My borther is retarded. (french) lol.. and btw.. jus incase u guys didnt know.. lent means physically slow.. as in ur a slwo runner.. adn lint in mentally slow..a s in.. well.. retarded XD |
Lithuanian? That sounds pretty cool...
I really want to learn Thai, since barely any of the people here in Thailand can speak English properly... But I seriously cannot be bothered to take lessons. I know some stuff, like hello (sawasdee kah/krap), thank you (khap khun kah/krap) and hurry up (leaw leaw). The last one's vital for me, since most of my friends are SLOW... |
Quote:
|
That's cool. I've never met a person from Lithuania before. I wonder what Lithuanian sounds like...
|
Some of my great great grandparents are from Lithuania, though I don't have any relatives left there since all of them left and went to the U.S. or Israel. I know very little about Lithuania because they all died years before I was born, so I'm very interested in learning more.
|
Haha same, we should research bout Lithuania together! XD lol
Bah, school was bad today.. man i need to get into remembering my french XD... i can't even remember how 2 use past/future tense XD. |
Verb tenses in French kill my brain. I always get them mixed up. I seriously need to study more...
|
I also think the tenses in English aren't that easy.
I had a look at a few French forums today, where I also posted a bit, since I want to get into French again and stop making so many mistakes. I need more practice... |
I did a French test two weeks ago in school, and I have yet to find out my result. I hope I did well... but I think I totally messed up my reading and oral test...
|
English is one of the hardest languages to learn as a second language... and I know that from firsthand experience.
I have a bit of an edge when it comes to learning French because I've taken Spanish. Since they're both Romance languages, there are many similarities between forms and such. |
French and Spanish are very similar, which could be helpful if I feel like studying Spanish instead of French the year after next.
I want to study Thai, but it's actually quite hard, since there's several words that have the same spelling, but different pronounciation, so it's easy to get mixed up. Writing and reading in Thai is even harder... |
Heh. That reminds me of the trouble I used to have distinguishing bass (the musical intrument) from bass (the fish) because they were both spelled the same way. Thai still sounds like an iteresting language, though. I bet there are some similarites between it and Chinese.
|
I really doubt it. This is what Thai writing looks like (for those who don't know):

I had no idea that my own club had exclusive membership.... :\ Of course you're allowed to join.
Welcome. It looks like we've got someone else who speaks Tagalog now. |
Hey, I hope I can join too. ^^;

Bonjour! (French: Hello!)
Welcome to the club. As I said before, there's no exclusive membership, so anyone who wants to join can. :D |
^ you double posted ahaha, lol just edit oen adn click 'delete'... anyways... Je suis tres fatigue.
I am very tired. (french) that was ez.. :P that was like...gr4 french XD |
That's not the first time I had a problem like that. I'd imagine it's a forum glitch as it was a duplicate of the original post. Usually, it gives you a message when that occurs, and doesn't post the duplicate, but I guess it didn't this time.
Anyways.... Yo pienso que usted tenga que beber cafe (Spanish: I think you need to drink coffee.) That's the best way to resolve being tired. Well, there's also sleep, but coffee can hold that off for a few hours. :P |
Yay! Another Filipino! =D *ish happy*
Kamusta ka, phantom_of_death? Taga saan ka sa 'pinas? How are you, phantom_of_death? Which part of the Philippines are you from? (Tagalog) |
Hello there !! :D
I wanna join. Can I ? xD Country of Current Residence: Spain Country of Birth: Spain Language(s) You Speak Fluently: Born-Spanish, Little-French, Advanced-English Language(s) You're Currently Learning/Would Like to Learn: Japanese =D I've seen that Aqua Dream and Seventh Petal want to learn Spanish :D I can help you with that stuff xD Quote:
- Pienso que tiene(s) que beber café. Notice that "Tiene(s). That's why in Spain we have two ways of saying You. Tú tienes is a familliar form, used when you have deal with the people are you talking to. Used with family, friends, etc. Usted tiene is a more formal form, used with respect. Used with people that you have no deal, or in some sittuations. Used with teachers, bosses, etc. I dunno if you understand what are you saying ;) |
Hi, hab ja schon 'ne ganze Weile hier nicht gepostet^^
Wie geht's? Spricht jemand von euch Deutsch? Hi haven't been posting here for a while^^ How are you? Are there any German speaking people here? (German) |
Welcome. I'm starting to forget my Spanish because I stopped taking it this year so I could take Arabic. My teacher insisted on putting in the pronouns that you didn't use, but despite her being my teacher, I think I'm going to trust someone who's actually from Spain. It's possible that I was learning a different dialect spoken in Latin America, but I really don't know. :D
Technically, there are four ways to say "you" in Spanish (tu, vosotros, usted, ustedes), but there's two general ones. Hebrew and Arabic both have four words for "you," but the conditions for using them are a little different. |
There are two ways of saying 'you' in French as well. There's vous, which is used to show respect, to people you don't know, and if you're talking to several people. It's more polite than tu.
Tu is used with friends and relatives... And I guess that's it ^_^ |
There is also a thing like that in german.
You="du", if you know the person very well, or they are around the same age "Sie" is more polite and used for older people, to show respect and people you don't know. |
Lol ya, i was gunna say that for frwench, turns out Pikabloo beat me XD
lol anyways, i still havnt checked up on Lithuanian, but since the NBA is back up on TV (Season ahs staretd again!) i prob wont care as much now.. :P |
English is such a boring and unecessarily complex language. We only have one word for "you" which is no fun at all, and so many of our plurals are messed up. If the plural of mouse is mice, and the plural of louse is lice, then why is the plural of house not "hice?"
|

Welcome to both of you, and Auron, I've updated your username in the memberlist.
As you said, it's only weird because you're used to something else. On that subject, however, if the plural of goose is geese, the plural of moose should be "meese" |
lol, stop making fun fo the only language ic ans peak fluently in XD
:'( Je suis lint XD I am retarded (french) :P lol i think i might finally start looking up french stuff, altho it might eb ahdr tio learn sicne i don't know where to get lessons from on how to connect words together with cinjuctions n stuff, adn all the rules needed n stuff, otherwise i'd be speaking in a language none of you would ever understand lol |
Le Français n'est pas la langue le plus difficile. Je déteste le français à l'école, mais je ne déteste pas le pays.
J' ai trois heures de français par semaine. French isn't the most difficult language. I don't like French in school, but I don't hate the country. I have three houres of French each week. Really I don't like french. |
I don't have anything against France, nor do I have anything against the French language, though I do agree that it's a challenging language to learn. There are some similarities to Spanish and Latin, since it's a Romance language, but that doesn't ease the learning process as much as I hoped it would.
|
I would like to join! ^,^
Country of Current Residence: United States Country of Birth: (If different from above)^ Language(s) You Speak Fluently: English Language(s) You're Currently Learning/Would Like to Learn: Spanish, Japanese Sí, hablo Japones tambien! ...pero pequena todo... Yes, I speak Japanese Too!...but only a little... |
Je déteste le français.
I hate French. As Mudkipblader said, it is an easy language to learn, but I just really, really, really, really... hate it. Mostly because of my teacher. |
*Guys 2 posts above, ur supossed to translate what you say, even if you think everyone knows what you said.*
Anyways, i STILL havn't started up on learning Lithuanian, but not even get to it for a loong time. Oh well. Le francais est fantastique! French is fantastic! (French) Yay i did i translation whoooppp lol XD ez one tho. |
Tu penses le francais est fantastique? Pourquoi?
You think French is fantastic? Why? (French) O_o I think that said it all... |
Quote:
Yeah, four ways: Tú (Tú = You, Tu = Your): It's singular. Usted: It's singular, respect. Vosotros: It's plural. Ustedes: It's plural, respect. |
We have 3 ways:
Jij/jou/jouw: You/you/your singular U (really!): singular, respect Jullie: Plural |
There are four ways to say "you" in Hebrew, but it is not to show respect. The word to use depends on the number and gender of the subject(s) being adressed.
Atah: Masuline Singular At: Feminine Singular Atem: Masculine Plural Aten: Feminine Plural I also know that Japanese has multiple words for "I," depending on who the speaker is. I'm not sure how many exist, though I one I prefer to use is "Watashi," which I believe is genderless. "Boku" is strictly masculine and "Atashi" is strictly feminine. |
There are several ways of saying you in Tagalog, but I don't really think there's much difference between any of them:
Ikaw; Kayo; Kita; Mo; Ninyo; Inyo; Iyo Some of those can mean 'your' aswell. |
Quote:
All personal pronouns. Dutch Ik : i Jij/ Jou/ Je: You Hij/ Zij/ het: He, She, It Wij: We Jullie: You Zij: They (persons and things) Fench Je : I Tu: You Il/ Elle: He/ She/ - male/female noun (sing) Nous : We Vous: You Ils/ Elles :Them - male/female noun (pl) What I hate about French are the genders of the word, the accents (é, ê,à;è), the times of the verbs: (Subjonctif, Gérondif,) I get mad of them. |
Genders are a pain... That's the thing that usually causes me to lose marks in tests... That and verbs.
That reminds me, I have to do French homework... O_o *dies* |
I have a test comming up, this thursday. XP
I hate the voc. I studied the words and not the sentences, and she asked those words in sentences. I just managed to get enough. Verbs are the biggest pain, though. |
Verbs in French hurt my brain. Every week, my teacher has these mini quiz things on vocab or verbs that we studied the lesson before. They're a pain...
|
Ow, Poor you!
French teacers are mean. |

Gracias, Mudkipblader! (Thanks, Mudkipblader)!

'T is niks hoor!
-It's okay.- So you speak Spanish? In my school there is a course where you can learn that language. |
Welkom SmaragdLucht!
Erm, translation needed? xD |

oh, that's cool.
Well next year I'll be studying English for 5 years at school. French has now reached it's 6th year (almost 7) |
umm guys just to elt you know, your supossed to state what language yuou are translating. anywyas, Semester 2 is enaring (got another 2-3 months of semester 1 left) XD lol oh well :( i want to re-learn french, cuz i forogtten most of it XD
|
Oh, sorry the language i was using was Dutch,my language.
|
Hay nako... Bored nanaman ako. Hindi ko pa finished yung French homework ko...
Sigh... I'm bored again. I haven't finished my French homework as well... (Tagalog) |
Yo pikabloo, what Garde are you in?
J'aide tu avec toi devoirs? I'll help you with your homework? (French) A-ha XD I don't think i sadi that right, man i need french class again :P |
Year 10, so that's grade 11, first year high school... I think...
My homework is: Describe the city of your choice in French.A photograph would be nice too. Use the structures from the book to eliminate mistakes! See Unit 2 first 4 pages. >_> My french teacher is evil... |
Wow, I couldn't do that in French, though I might be able to describe a city in Spanish. The city I would probably describe would be Tel Aviv, the city of my birth, even though I doubt very many people speak Spanish there.
|
Bonne chance avec ton devoir^^
Moi, je n'ai plus de devoirs francais, parce que je ne vais plus à l'école. Et vous n'aimez pas le francais? Je pense que c'est une langue très belle^^ French: Good luck with your homework^^ I don't have French homework anymore, because I don't go to school anymore. And you don't like French? I think it's a very beautiful language^^ |
Hindi naman. Okay lang ang French. Pero medyong mahirap. Achaka hindi ko gusto yung teacher ko...
Not really. French is okay. But it's can be quite hard. And I really don't like my teacher... (Tagalog) |
grade 9 is the first year of high school, so it would be your year 10? Anyways, im bored, and dunno what to do.. well ya.. XD
Je pense je avec mon chambre. I think i'll go to bed. (French) I think i did that right, you french speakers here could hlp me :( XD anyways i am tired adn my neck hurts, alot. So ttfn! (Tata for now). :P |
I don't really know... I haven't had a French lesson since the week before last (I skipped last weeks lessons cause I had to go away...) XD So my French-speaking skills just died...
Anyway, cya ^_^ |
Quote:
Ehm, I think you have to say: "I think I'll go to my bed." En nu in 't Nederlands: "Ik ga naar mijn bed gaan." And now in Dutch: "I'm going to my bed." XD |
Sa Tagalog: I think pupunta na ako sa kama
In Tagalog (more like Taglish...): I think I'll go to bed =D |
To be honest, I have no idea what kind a language that is.
Interesting language fact:If the English did'nt conquer the US (and the Dutchman), we'd be speaking Dutch now. You know New York first was called New Amsterdam. XD |
New Amsterdam... XD That sounds funny. I can't imaging New York being called New Amsterdam...
Tagalog is the language from the Philippines. |
Oh, I see.
In Dutch it would be Nieuw Amsterdam... It's wierd when you imagine the entire world speaking a different language (which would be mine, so it's even wierder for me) |
I'm actually not so fluent in Tagalog anymore. I can understand most of it, but when it comes to speaking, I'm what people say in the Philippines barok. I don't think it has an exact meaning, but I think it's something like I can speak it, but not very well, or it sounds strange.
|
Oh, well you can speak it better then me, though. ^^"
|
Hey guys, I need your help^^
Someone has made posts on my forums in a language I can't identify. I've been searching for some words on Google, but the results didn't help me. Can anyone tell me which language this is and probably what it means? Here is what he said: Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
I keep wondering whether he made up some words... |
It's probably Dutch or German, judging from that fact that he says he speaks French, Spanish, and Dutch or German ("Deutch" is the German word for German, so I really don't know which one of the two it is). It doesn't seem like Spanish or French for the most part, though I doubt he made the words up because it does seem to be coherent.
|
I agree with Aqua, defiontely not french XD wait i just looked at it more carefully. Some words are frnech. Maybe the different posts are different languages.
|
Can I join this club?
Country of Current Residence: New Zealand Country of Birth: Taiwan Language(s) You Speak Fluently: Mandarin, English Language(s) You're Currently Learning/Would Like to Learn: Japanese |
Oui, Beinvenue!
Yes, Welcome! (French) lol simple :P well i'm not 100% sure, but i dun see why not XD |
Mabuhay!
Welcome! (Tagalog) Actually, 'Mabuhay' can mean many different things. It's literal meaning is 'to live', but it's also used to say "Hello!", "Greetings!", "Thank you!", "Long Live!" and other goodwishes and goodwill. |
