WHOAMG Photoshop!!!!

Alright, I realize that one of the pics I'm gonna post now would actually fit in my other thread, and that it is one thread per person, but there's something I really want to say.

Those of you who have seen my art threads before know that I've always had a certain attitude about digitally enhanced art. Basically, I always secretly thought it was awesome, but went went parading around, exclaiming that all my artwork was unedited in its original pencil glory, as things should be! Alright, so I did a few Paint pics smudged on crap programs, but that's not the point.

So now that I actually know how to Photoshop...

Well, now I like it. :)

Meh first piccy (alright, the lineart is too blocky, but I didn't do it right... ><):

And my new Chibi avatar pic thingy:

Dragonfree taught me how. ^^ The secret is Illustrator (a program which, up until now, I considered evil xP) You paste the scanned pic into illustrator and go over all the lines with the pen tool (which sounds daunting and time-consuming, but if you hold the pen down, you can make curved lines, which makes things easier.) Then when you're done, you delete the original pic behind it, do a screen capture, and paste it into Photoshop. And coloring is easy, you just use the magic wand to delete all the white areas, duplicate the layer, and fill in all the color on the lower layer (using the magic wand, of course, to only fill in between the lines.)

I think you're colouring is really smooth and you do really well with photoshop, personally, being as I am too a photoshop user, but only for colouring my pics, I think you're better than me. They are really nice.

Freddy krueger January 10th, 2007 9:56 PM

Horray for photoshop!! I like yer pics. ^_^

ptah January 16th, 2007 6:12 AM

I like'em. Smooth photoshop coloring is hard ._. *Tried it before*. I advice you on trying the cell coloring. Cell coloring is more fun and it'll give you more chances of being creative. I'd post some examples but i still need to get to 15 and more posts first.

Chibi Pika January 25th, 2007 8:25 AM

I've seen you mention it in your threads--what's cell coloring?

New one, fwee!! My best one yet, imo.

My first image in photoshop wasn't that good, i even used a tablet but yours rocks! By the way, cell shading is a way of shading and like you do on sprites you block colour. so no airbrushing or watercolouring just the pencil tool on photoshop.

Stevo-kun January 28th, 2007 6:36 PM

Nice pis, really softly shaded, and well, cell shaded is what you can find alot on officially coloured Anime pics, say like ones you find on BLEACH calenders or whatever, atleast I think that's where you see it.

Chibi Pika February 9th, 2007 5:09 AM

I did this one a while ago, I just never posted it:

I love the way the eyes turned out. ^^

Chibi Pika March 5th, 2007 6:00 AM

All of my pics up to now have been soft-shaded. Which is fine, I guess, but I really wanted to try hard-shading. It is more difficult, but worth it, methinks, because I love the result...

Moltres. The flames were hard, and they look kinda weird, but meh...

That moltres is eons beyond the rest of your stuff. Kepp your poses dynamic like that. You really get the feeling that the Moltres is friggin fierce.

...That one paragraph just saved me hours of work, the next time I decide to photoshop a scanned image. xD Awesome.

I was wondering how you did the line art as well. Thats a neat idea.

And I love your art! It really does remind me of Sugimori art, but at the same time its original as well.

Wouldn't it be *way* easier to just save it and open it in photoshop? Why a screen capture?

Ironically, I drew that Moltres two years ago. xD

You're welcome. ^^ And btw, I got one part wrong in the explanation... It's better to just paste the lineart in (creating a new layer, and change that layer's Blending Mode to Multiply, so you don't have to do any deleting of white areas. It makes all the white see-through, so you just fill in the color on the bottom layer.

Eh...I think it converts it into a smart object or something weird like that, and it's better to have the lineart pixelated normally, at least in my opinion. Or maybe not, I dunno...it only takes about thirty extra seconds to screen capture and crop anyway.

wow i cant believe there are just people who are talented enough to paint and draw unlike me i suck :(

Chibi Pika April 17th, 2007 5:25 PM

Heh, thanks. ^^

New one! Riolu!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v607/ChibiPika/Pics/Riolu2.jpg

Oh, and by the way, I redid the Lugia. Seriously, compare them:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v607/ChibiPika/Pics/LugiaWing2.png
The only thing I don't like about the new one is the shading on the backfins. It's really demented. xD

~Chibi~

Taemin April 18th, 2007 7:14 PM

Oooo, Lugia looks awesome with the shading! And its so well drawn. x3
