I love constellations and studying the planets, so may I join?

That is really awesome I have to say.
|
I love studying our universe and so I'll join, but I have no time for those links at this time unfortunately.
|
You ahould check out the links at a later time.

What was the first comet anyone has seen?
|
I have yet to see a comet.
|
I saw my first in third grade, I had a telescope and watched it for a while from my room, I was quiete happy seeing it.
|
Can I join too?
Our geography topic for the previous therm was Astronomy. Only bad I just have one hour of Geography, those who do science have two hours and they learned lots more. I really enjoyed that topic. It's intriguing that the Universe actually might stop at some moment. We have now reached a Space temperature of 4-5K, if it reaches 0K, everything is going to stop. It's hard to imagine that. When I was little I read a lot of Astronomy books, just for fun. =D |

Welcome to our club I hope you enjoy your time here!^^
|
Over the weekend I cam across two interesting astronomy related links. The first one has you zooming into Earth from ten million light years away from the Milky Way. The second has deal with dark matter.
First Link: http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/index.html Second Link: http://news.independent.co.uk/world/science_technology/article2134891.ece I just came across an article that talks about the New Horizons Mission taking photos of Jupiter Link: http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2007/01/12/jupiter_spa_02.html?category=space&guid=20070112140030 |
Those are really cool thanks for the links.
|
Your welcome and here are three more links. The first is the direct measuring of an exoplanet diameter, the second is the discovery of a magnetic field in another galaxy and the last is the release of the mission details for the repair mission for the Hubble Space Telescope.
First Link: http://www.astronomy.com/asy/default.aspx?c=a&id=5033 Second Link: http://www.astronomy.com/asy/default.aspx?c=a&id=5037 Third Link: http://www.astronomy.com/asy/default.aspx?c=a&id=5031 |
The second I found the msot interesting due to the fact that possibly witha magnetic field if we follow t we may be able to find new life.
|
I haven't read the complete articles yet, but they seemed very interresting.
The one with the zooming in to the earth is amazing. I wonder how far it will go on... I was a bit surprised that they are still going to repaire the Hubble Telescope. According to my Geography teacher they were going to stop doing that. I'm happy to hear that they are not completely abandoning it. I mean, it took some amazing pictures and photo's of the Universe. I love them. |
I finished them completely and I gotta say again they were awesome articles.
|
I just came up with an idea for the club. How about posting observation reports. Also any club member can post astronomy related info in the thread.
|
That's a cool idea, by the by the other night, I saw the moon in cresent phase around 7.PM.
|
Here is my observation reports after observing Saturn on Friday night and Jupiter Sunday morning with my telescope.
January 19, 2007 Weather: Few clouds Temperature at 28°F Observations: Saturn ( At Last) January 21, 2007 Weather: Clear Light Breeze 14°F Observations: Jupiter (Three Moons sighted as well) |
You're lucky to have a telescope. I don't have one. =/
And it's freezing out here. -At last Winter started here, 2 months to late- Currently in Geography we're learning about the Atmosphere, so not really Astronomy. BTW, a few years ago I went to the "Sterrekijkdagen" (Stars-spot-days XD) I saw a red, a blue and a yellow star. It's amazing that you can see those colours. http://www.universetoday.com/ Site with daily updates. |
I was on SkyTonight.com and came across their interactive utilities like showing the phase of the moon and the locations of Jupiter's brightest moons.
Link: http://skytonight.com/observing/objects/javascript Today some of the first pictures from the New Horizon mission of Jupiter and they can be viewed here. |
Nova and a Program
I would like to alert every member of club that a nova is progress in the constellation of Scorpius and I am releasing a program I made called Constellation Memory and will be available in the first post.
Source: http://www.astronomy.com/ASY/default.aspx?c=a&id=5215 |
I must say it's interesting to hear a new Star is born. It's only sad I won't be able to see it. T_T
Can you explain a little more what that program is for? And it's awesome you can make that. |
It is memory game that I made for my computer programing class and if you get up very early ( 5:30 AM local time) in the morning, Scorpius visible.
|
i love astronomy.i am a member in the astronomy club of my school.i really wanna join this club.

Welcome to the club!
So tomorrow is the Lunar Eclipse, huh? That's great! I might check on it. I just heard that the sky above Belgium will be clear, so I might go see it. ^^ Now I just have to change the EST to GMT+1. |
I was able to observe it and it was cool to see.
|
can i join the pokecommunity astronomy club too?
im in an astronomy club at school |
I saw the lunar eclipse on saturday 3rd of march, does anyone know when the next solar eclipse is meant to happen, and where is the best place to see it?
|
Sure you may join, the more people the better. ^^
YES! I saw the lunar eclipse too. It was great, although the moon stood a bit to far away to really see it. And sky was a bit cloudy. xO At my place it started at 10:30 and ended past midnight. I remember seeing a lunar eclipse long ago. There were almost no clouds, and it was early in the evening. The moon wa really big and red like a tomato. It was awesome, yet a bit scary. (I was very young then, I didn't know what it was yet) For the next solar eclipse? I don't know. The only thing I know is that we had a complete one in 2001. You could only see it in the south of the country, but in the north (where I live) you could see a bit of it. |
Welcome to the club Delkatty and Mudkipblader I will get back with the date for the next solar eclipse.
Edit: Technically some sort of solar eclipse occurs 15 days before or after a lunar eclipse. The next total solar eclipse is August 1st, 2008. |
Saturn Hexagon and Day Measurements
Scientists are still puzzled at the hexagon shaped clouds at Saturn's North Pole and Saturn's moon Enceladus is possibly making it impossible for astronomers on Earth measure the length of Saturn's day using traditional techniques.

National Dark - Sky Week and a Light Pollution Bill
Today marks the beginning of National Dark- Sky Week. national Dark - Sky Week was created five years ago to raise awareness of the effects of light pollution not only on the night sky but other effects on society. Also I would like to mention that the New York State Assemble introduced a bill that would fight light pollution.

Mercury has a molten core
Recent studies of Mercury has indicate a molten core like Earth.
|
Really? An other chance that we can move to Mars.
Ther's also a lot of water on mars, right? |
Quote:
I could be wrong, though... my area of expertise is in Astrophysics (black holes, Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, space-time, and all that jazz) rather than true blue Astronomy. But I'd like to become a member anyways! |
Welcome to the club. ^^
But a few months ago -If I remember correctly- I read that there was -or has been- water on Mars. Mainly on the Norht/South-pole. It's also possible that bacteria live on Mars. But I don't remember it good anymore. And I thought it was Titan (Saturn) that was good. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4229110.stm |
Is this club still active? And can a noob like me join? I've enjoyed astronomy for years.
