emulating, emulating, and emulating

EV training my Kingdra called Pteryx (Named after the species of Water Dragon that Kingdra is based upon. I know, i'm a nerd). Currently lv 45, and so far the training seems to be paying off. It's got very well-rounded stats, and some of them are a lot higher than some of my other Pokémon who are at an equal or higher level. Also, I checked out it's min and max base stats on Bulbapedia and they're not far off the max available so i'm pleased with that.

Even on an emulator with speed toggle switched on it's a painfully slow process haha. It'll be worth it though when my Kingdra's unbeatable :D

Oh, here's it's current moveset:

http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Bubblebeam
Will change to Surf or something later on. Currently only have it because of it's PP.

http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Dragonbreath
Happy with this move, will probably keep it.

http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Water Gun
Like Bubblebeam, it's only here because it has 25 PP (More battles = more EV pts). Will change later

http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Twister
Will definately change later on, not a fan of this move.

Projected moveset:
http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Dragonbreath - Dragon move, STAB
http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Surf - Best Water-type attack imo, powerful and more accurate than Hydro Parp
http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Reflect - To cover the fact Kingdra's defence isn't much to shout home about and also damage limitation against Dragon-type attacks
http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Hyper Beam? - Haven't really decided on a 4th move but hey, what's a Dragon Pokémon without Hyper Beam? :D

st.jimmy April 3rd, 2009 7:07 AM

i was gunna say well done for knowing that a kingdra was based on a pteryx but u asked for it so im gunna have to call u a nerd ;)
looking for shinies i am ;)

It's been 2 years since I got Pokemon Pearl and I just beat Volknor. Jesus, I'm slow at this game. I just gave up with the gyms and decided to train a load of random, useless Pokémon. xD

Ninetales1 April 7th, 2009 6:33 PM

As there's a thread like this in the Diamond/Pearl forum, I won't repeat the recent happenings there. But I did play Colosseum for the first time in quite a while yesterday. I just trained my best Pokemon team in Mt. Battle (areas 6-8), and now they're just above level 50. My team currently consists of:

Poppon (male Jumpluff), level 52
Nature: Calm
Ability: Chlorophyll
-Synthesis
-Sleep Powder
-Cotton Spore
-Mega Drain
*I usually have Poppon first in my party (although he's usually switched out or KO'd at the end), and most of what he does in battle is put foes to sleep. Sometimes he also uses Cotton Spore to make it so that my other Pokemon can attack next. His high Speed really comes in handy.

Plusle (female Plusle), level 52
Nature: Bold
Ability: Plus
-Charge
-Spark
-Fake Tears
-Encore
*She doesn't have a nickname because I received her from Duking. She's an attacker/helper. Often times she will use Fake Tears so that my other Pokemon can do more damage with a special attack that turn. She hardly ever uses Encore, but it comes in handy in rare cases.

Nuo (male Quagsire), level 51
Nature: Hardy
Ability: Damp
-Surf
-Earthquake
-Mud Shot
-Amnesia
*It helps that I have three Pokemon who are unaffected by Earthquake, and one who's resistant to it. Nuo has Mud Shot as a backup just in case he has to battle alongside Plusle, or if Skeeter's low on HP. I find that he hardly ever uses Amnesia, though...

Miyage (female Delibird), level 52
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Vital Spirit
-Present
-Attract
-Fly
-Blizzard
*I like using Blizzard here because it's powerful and hits both foes, and also because it can freeze. I know Present's kind of lame, but I can't find a good attack to replace it with...

Voldemort (male Misdreavus), level 52
Nature: Lonely
Ability: Levitate
-Psybeam
-Shadow Ball
-Pain Split
-Perish Song
*I like to send Voldemort out when my opponent is down to their last two Pokemon, so there's no chance of switching out. I especially like to pair him up with Nuo or Poppon--it depends on whether I want to do a lot of damage quickly or stall while Perish Song counts down.

Skeeter (female Heracross), level 53
Nature: Hasty
Ability: Guts
-Endure
-Reversal
-Brick Break
-Megahorn
*Skeeter just learned Megahorn yesterday; before that, she knew Counter, which was practically useless. I find the Endure/Reversal combo works well on someone with high Attack.

I'm probably going to get my team to level 55 before continuing in Realgam Tower.

EV training a Growlithe on Silver atm. Even though he's proving even harder to train than Kingdra was, i'm pretty pleased with how it's going so far. He's Lv 25 and his stats are either the max for his level or 5 or less points from the max, so the training seems to be paying dividends.

A question for you guys about a moveset for my (Eventual) Arcanine; I want to learn it:
http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Extreme Speed
http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Fire Blast - I'd teach it Flamethrower but Arcanine can't learn both Flamethrower and Extreme Speed
http://i44.*.com/2zqfy3b.png Take Down

And one other move. I'm thinking of trading Growlithe back over onto Blue and teaching it the Reflect TM to compensate for its poor Defence stat but I dunno. I'm not a massive fan of Hyper Beam but it's a possibility. Another candidate is Sunny Day to boost Fire Blast (LOL like it needs boosting).

What do you guys think I should teach it as a 4th move?

I suppose this is a little late, but if you haven't done it already, you can have an Arcanine with both Flamethrower and ExtremeSpeed on Silver...just train Growlithe to lvl. 50, teach it Flamethrower, then evolve it with the Fire Stone at level 50. When it evolves, it should learn ExtremeSpeed.

As for a fourth move, I'm not the best person to ask about that as I don't really battle competitively. :D

Oh, it can learn both? That's good news man, thanks =D

I never got round to finishing training up Growlithe, so you weren't too late at all haha.

I'm not one for competative battling either, in fact I can't even remember quite why I was training up a Growlithe exactly. I think it was a combination of boredom and wanting an awesome EV trained Arcanine to smash up the game with XDD

* * * * *

Well, I finally got round to completing the training of my Growlithe. It's now a Level 50 Arcanine, and its stats are pretty good (Which i'd have hoped they would be, given how long it's taken to train the damned thing).

His stats at Lv 50 {The Max stats available are in brackets}:
Hp: 190 {197}
At: 161 {162}
Df: 124 {132}
Sa: 141 {152}
Sd: 121 {132}
Sp: 145 {147}

I used Bulbapedia/Marriland to work out the max stats, i'm 99% sure they're correct. I'm pretty happy with how his stats have turned out, especially his Hp, Attack and Speed.

I still need to learn him a 4th move, atm he's got:
http://i39.*.com/34gt3kw.png Extreme Speed
http://i39.*.com/34gt3kw.png Flamethrower
http://i39.*.com/34gt3kw.png Take Down
http://i39.*.com/34gt3kw.png Bite <- This is the one i'm looking to replace

I don't wanna teach him Hyper Beam as he already has 2 powerful normal type moves (Which don't require him to recharge). Sunny Day is an option, I guess, to power up Flamethrower and weaken Water Moves etc, but i'd rather teach him something else given the option. The other move i'm thinking of teaching him is Reflect, to try and make up for the fact his defence isn't too great. But again, it's not ideal imo.

Any suggestions = massively appreciated ^-^

I'm failing against Dialga on my Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time.

His Roar of Time is so overpowered.

Gah, DIE PLEASE

I'm currently training my espeon to Lv.100.
I'm trying to make a Lv.100 team. This will be my 5th in the team...
and my 11th? or something overall.

iTzKaizer May 22nd, 2009 6:15 PM

I'm trying to pass the Elite 4 and Champion 20 times to increase my rival's level in the Survival area. Currently on 13 times.

SnowpointQuincy June 14th, 2009 4:49 AM

I cought a shiny Machop! EV training my second Scizor. Two EV trained Dragonite, Heart and Soul. (I named them awile back before the new remakes were anounce, so I must have some kind of brain power.)

Limey-chan June 25th, 2009 7:36 PM

I hacked my Silver rom to make the Gym Leaders and Elite Four more challenging by giving them more varied Pokémon at higher levels.

I don't think I realised quite how strong i'd actually made them... Falkner just owned my team with his newly-hacked Pidgeotto o_O

Looks like I have me some training to do...

Currently training to challenge Volkner(the 8th leader in D/P/Pt). My pokemon are all at lv 55 but I want to take them to 57 before advancing.

kkaitlinn94 July 11th, 2009 9:58 AM

Platinum - I'm training my team to level 45 or 50 (depends how long I feel like walking around in the grass) before I get to the 6th gym

Diamond - thinking of restarting - all my Pokemon are like level 40something (except my level 100 glaceon) and I beat the elite four. FAIL! so I'm gonna trade all them to my brothers Pearl game and restart

Silver/Gold - super old/used from game stop and won't save, sometimes when I'm bored I'll start a new game and see how far I can get before I get bored or the batteries in my GBC die
