Name Announcement/Discussion thread
Well, lately, when the flood of new English names got announced or revealed in some places, tons of threads about them popped out of the ground.
While that isn't a bad thing, making a thread for 1 newly announced name really clutters up the forum, and pushes other valuable discussion threads back in pages. So, please use this thread to discuss newly announced or revealed names for the D/P Pokémon. Quote:

OK. I'll begin by just writing the already known names and update them as they are revealed.
EDIT: The list is now in the first post, so I'll erase this one. |

Well if i'm right according to Bulbapedia Glion keeps its japanese name (Glion)...
|
I checked the Glion page, but didn't find it said it was like that in English.
|
Kotobuki City = Jubilife City O_o
The Moves Anticipate and Force Expert are named Me First and Force Palm Source: Serebii. |
Quote:
Jubilife...? ...^^; Strange. As for the moves, I dont really mind them changing the move names, but the Japanese ones do have a better ring. 'Anticipate' sounds cool, and 'Me First' ... not so much. ~_~ Can't be helped. |
Also from Serebii:
Empuerte is now known as Empoleon (emperor + Napoleon Bonaparte). |
Bidoof, and Starly.
Mukkuru and Bippa, my once favorite names, now Bidoof, and Starly XD |
Quote:
Empoleon isn't bad, but i'd be upset if i was Nepoleon and there is a poke named after me... |
Turtwig's evo US names
In Serebii:
Their US names are below: Hayashigame: Grotle (grow+turtle) Dotaitos: Torterra (tortoise+terra) |
Well considering DP is getting Closer i'd excpect we'll get a million threads tommorow saying that all the names are confirmed... Grotle is weird but less of a mouthful than Hayashigame. Torterra is just as strange as it's first two Evolutions names... Oh well, just names.
|
Serebii revealed many more names, so I'll update the list.
In my opinion, Grotle sound strange, Torterra sounds cool. Monferno sound bad, Infernape too. Prinplup is okay, and Empoleon is one of the best English D/P names I've heard. Purugly sounds terrible but Skuntank is not bad. |
Now have a bunch of new name from Serebii: Staravia (Mukkubird), Staraptor(Mukuhawk), Bibarel(Biidaru) and Kricketune(Korotokku).
|
Staraptor sounds like the name for a dinosaur and doesn't really fit.
Purugly fits perfectly, Bunyatto is really ugly IMO xD Empoleon sounds decent too. The other names are ok, but don't sound too creative to me... |
I was amazed when they gave out Empoleons US name i was afraid they would do something scky like Emplup or Plupeon something with plup in it (because of Prinplup and piplup) but so far the other names have been ok I know I will get used to them
|
In Serebii, Skunpoo is now Stunky...
|
Grotle = Okay...
Torterra = Fun; reminds me of a tortilla. Monferno = Beautiful Infernape = Beautiful Prinplup = Tongue-twisting Drifblim = Better... Purugly = Lame, but suiting Skuntank = Lame, but suiting Staravia = Beautiful Staraptor = Interesting... Bibarel = Fun Kricketune = Beautiful Stunky = I dunno... >.> Enpoleon = Best. Poke. Name. Evar. |
Serebii has been updating very fast. I'll add Staravia, Staraptor, Bibarel, Kricketune, Stunky. I like Starly's evolutions name. And also Kricketune.
|
My opinions :)
Grotle = Too much like Grovyle, considering they're both second-stage grass starters. Torterra = Awesome. Was hoping for Torterrain so this was very close. :D Monferno = Meh, it's okay - would have preferred something without "Inferno" though as its evo uses that too. "Gibburn" would have been fun. Infernape = Fine Prinplup = Fun to pronounce Drifblim = Better than Driftblim, flows off the tongue more easily now Purugly = Would have preferred Plumpurr Skuntank = Fine, was expecting it anyway Staravia = Alright Staraptor = I like this one, and I like the Pokémon too Bibarel = Bit confusing but fun to say Kricketune = Awesome and very fitting Stunky = Fine Empoleon = It's okay. I'm calling mine Empelson though. :P --FG |
Is Serebii the only website that tells about the sweet new Pokemon?
I used to go to a website called -link here- but it kinda closed out..... |
lolol, I love these names now lol. At first I hated them, but:
Krickitune - sooo hilarious XD I love this name Staravia - Excellent Drifblim - better than Driftblim =_= Bibarel - woulda fitted as Bidoof's name lol |
Empoleon is good, but I hate Drifblim. Roserade and Weavile both win, but Piplup and Prinplup give me nightmares. All in all, it's a mixed bag.

Bunyatto Is Not Ugly
HOW THE *beep* DARE THEY CALL BUNYATTO PURUGLY!!! THAT IS *beep* LAME!! BUNYATTO IS NOT *beep* UGLY!! It may not be the prettiest thing around, but it's definitely not ugly. That is up to the individual's opinion. And even if it is considered ugly by some, the name in itself is horrible.
"Congratulations! Your Glameow evolved into Purugly!" *beats up DS* >_< :17: And Infernape sucks as a name. In for snape? In for nap? LAME. LAME. LAME. The rest could be better, but whatever. They'll do. |
Purugly, ugly name for an ugly Pokemon, well not that ugly, looks like an old royal cat. I agree with Forest Grovyle on the Plumpurr and Gibburn, you should work for Nintendo of America... Anyway where did the 'Plup' comefrom in the names, like when something hits water? I hope Pachirisu keeps its name, it had better do.
